It seems that most players don't need cheater mods when they are provided with a reasonable alternative which allows them to provide for themselves. For example: Most players don't want to hunt crows flying in the air because it's a waste of arrows. Retrievable arrows adds a level of reality to the experience. If a player knows that they can retrieve those arrows afterwards, they may be more willing to take a shot at it.
Ultimately, I would like to add functionality for throwing weapons (spears, knives, axes, etc.) which would also be retrievable, giving the player access to early ranged weapons too.
If you're wondering why that bandit archer seems to shoot just one arrow then switch to melee combat, you are not crazy. That is a bug. This is a side effect of reducing the arrow unit size from 30 down to 1 (meaning all ranged opponents now likely carry just a single arrow in their inventory).
