If Far Cry 3 just refuses to start — no Ubisoft Connect, no launch window, or random stutters and crashes — this guide will help you get it running again on modern systems.
❗ Step 1: Identify the Problem
The game doesn’t launch, Ubisoft Connect won’t open, or it crashes after startup — these are all common issues with Far Cry 3 on newer Windows versions.
🎮 Step 2: Add Far Cry 3 as a Non-Steam Game
  1. Open Steam
  2. Go to Games → Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library
  3. Click Browse, then navigate to your Far Cry 3 install folder
    (usually Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 3\bin)
  4. You’ll see two executables:
    • farcry3_d3d9.exe – More performance, less stable
    • farcry3_d3d11.exe – More stable, slightly lower performance

I've literally tried everything. At 99, meaning the moment that black window appears that indicates entering the game but just as it opens, it closes. It's super vicious. I've even been going back and forth with Ubisoft themselves, they had said that, after me sending them all kinds of info, that they have or will escalate. Never heard of them since. There are files that ought to exist in the My Documents > My Games > Far Cry 3 folder that just don't.
Some say those files are lost within the Matrix.

@SulkerMuis, can you clarify what you mean by "games wants to go in but at 99, it crashes." Where exactly? Have you checked your settings?

I also recommend 2 things:

1. Try "Run this program as administrator" from the folders of the game.
2. Try running the dx11 from the game folder just to test it out before adding it to Steam.
3. Try running it in compatibility mode.

This guide does not work at all.
I've tried adding both the normal dx9 exe as well as dx11 exe, not at the same time btw.
Still, games wants to go in but at 99, it crashes. I need more assistance PLZ

@DFazDank, are you sure it's the dx11 version? Additionally, have you checked video settings just to make sure?

Additionally, there might be some missing Microsoft C++ redistributable missing. In some cases you manually update your graphics card or install an older version of DirectX, what GPU are you using may I ask?

tried all this on dx11 and it crashes right after hitting continue game, am i missing something?
