The "Treasure Hunter" (Movement Ability) is available to the "Chemist" Job for your Characters.

The ability allows Characters to discover hidden items upon moving to a tile.
The lower the Character's Bravery the better the chances of finding rare items with
the "Treasure Hunter" (Chemist Ability) equipped.

As Characters with low Bravery can permanently leave the Party, Rapha is an ideal
"Low-Bravery Treasure Hunter" Character, as she naturally has low Bravery.
Of course this does not guarantee 100% you get the "BEST" item you want.
ฮฒ - ๐‡๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  (๐…๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐)
~Treasure Hunter Foreword~
Nearly every map in the game has four treasure tiles.
These tiles aren't visibly marked, but if a character with the "Treasure Hunter" (Chemist Ability) equipped stops on the tile, you'll receive an item. Simply moving across a treasure tile has no effect; you must END your move on the tile to find the Treasure Hunter item.

Almost all treasure tiles have two different items you can get: a more valuable one and a less valuable one. Your odds of getting the "poor" item are the same as your character's Bravery, so a LOW Bravery character is better for getting the GOOD items. Once you claim either item, BOTH disappear for good, even if you later return to the map. You can get only one!

Some battlefield, such as Mandalia Plain, become sites for random battles after you clear them the first time. In this case, you may either get the treasures in the initial battle there, or come back later for them. However, each treasure tile may be used only once, no matter how many times you visit.

โ„น๏ธ You may still pick up treasures even if you're currently Floating.

How to locate Treasures
I've listed the coordinates for the Treasure Hunter items on each map in the corresponding battle.

Here's how my system works:
All of the coordinates are given relative to a particular corner.
  1. First, use the tile height and terrain type information to identify which of the 4 corners on the map is the reference corner.
(You can view the terrain type information by highlighting a tile with the cursor and then pressing the Select button.)
  2. Now, tilt the map
When you do this, the screen will change perspective and you'll be looking at the battlefield from a different angle.
(Keep doing this until the reference corner is at the bottom of the screen.)
  3. You're now all set to find the treasure tiles.
  4. Start at the reference corner.
  5. Then, use the LEFT and UP arrows to move the cursor the specified number of spaces.
  6. For example, "Left: 3, Up: 2" means "3 tiles to the left" and "2 tiles up".
  7. The height and terrain type will help you confirm that you've found the right space.

Treasure tile at Mount Bervenia that you can't get
There's a treasure tile programmed into Mount Bervenia that you can never actually get.
To get it, your Treasure Hunter would have to stop on a tile filled with lava.

The only abilities that let you do this are Lavawalking and Levitate, neither of which can be equipped simultaneously with Treasure Hunter. Float magick and gear like the Winged Boots do NOT work because they only allow you to move THROUGH lava on the way to another tile, and never allow you to STOP on top of lava.

๐Ÿšซ The tile only has ๐Ÿ’ฃ Flameburst Bomb (250g) / ๐Ÿบ X-Potion anyway, so don't sweat it.

~Interlude on Catching Items from Ninjas~
Using the "Sticky Fingers" (Thief Ability) it is possible to catch a number of rare weapons when fighting against Enemy Ninjas (LV90+). However, this is tedious and requires you power Level Up to Level 90+ for at least one of your characters. Hence, most players won't care to bother with catching items. However, for the sake of completeness, this guide will briefly cover the basics of catching items in the next sub-sections.

Before getting to the details, please note:
  • โ„น๏ธ This guide is pretending catching items doesn't exist.
(When it comes to determining unlimited or limited supply status of rare items.)
  • โ„น๏ธ Therefore, there are 10 weapons designated "ultra-rare" by this guide
(Even though technically you could get an unlimited supply from catching them.)
Also note all rare weapons you can catch can already be found elsewhere from:
(Therefore, you don't need to ever catch items to have a complete collection of rare items.)
  • ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Treasure Hunter items
  • ๐Ÿ‘‹ Stealing
  • ๐Ÿ— Poaching
Where's the Best Place to Catch Items?
Midlight's Deep (Floor 9 - The Interstice) is the best place to catch items. There's four different Enemy variations you might meet. One of these consists of Ninjas and Samurais (a 25% chance). Keep replaying or resetting the game until you get the battle with the Ninjas and Samurais.
(Hence why this Interlude is placed at this location in the guide.)

What Items Can be Caught?
There are a total of 19 different Rare Weapons you can catch:
(Listed next with the required Ninja Character Level in parentheses.)
  • (90-99) ๐Ÿ”— Scorpion Tail
  • (92-94) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Defender

  • (95-95) ๐Ÿ”ฑ Holy Lance
  • (95-95) ๐Ÿชต Ivory Pole
  • (95-95) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Masamune
  • (95-95) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Nagnarok
  • (95-95) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Sasuke's Blade
  • (95-95) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Save the Queen
  • (95-99) ๐Ÿ“– Omnilex
  • (95-99) ๐Ÿ”ช Zwill Straightblade

  • (96-96) ๐Ÿ”ฑ Dragon Whisker
  • (96-96) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Excalibur
  • (96-99) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Chirijiraden
  • (96-99) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Koga Blade
  • (96-99) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Materia Blade
  • (96-99) ๐Ÿชต Whale Whisker

  • (97-97) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Ragnarok
  • (97-99) ๐Ÿ”ฑ Javelin II
  • (98-99) ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Chaos Blade
Of the above list, here's the items you can also get from poaching:
  • ๐Ÿ”— Scorpion Tail
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Defender (Also can steal x2.)
  • ๐Ÿ”ช Zwill Straightblade
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Nagnarok (Also can find x1.)
  • ๐Ÿ“– Omnilex
  • ๐Ÿ”ฑ Holy Lance
  • ๐Ÿชต Ivory Pole
  • ๐Ÿ”ฑ Dragon Whisker
  • ๐Ÿชต Whale Whisker
Of the above list, here's the items that you can only get exactly one of unless you catch more:
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Masamune
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Koga Blade
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Materia Blade
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Chirijiraden
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Ragnarok
  • ๐Ÿ”ฑ Javelin II
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Chaos Blade
Of the above list, here's the items you can only get exactly two of unless you catch more:
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Sasuke's Blade
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Save the Queen (Not counting the final one you find past the point of no return.)
  • ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Excalibur
In summary, there are exactly ten ultra-rare weapons that you could technically try to catch in order to get an unlimited supply, but you'll have at least one of every weapon in the game even without catching anything.

Strategies for Catching Items
First kill off all the Samurais and you're free to catch items.
It's a good idea to put a sturdy character, like a Female with Chantage, on the Death Trap tile.
(That keeps the Enemy Ninjas from accidentally killing themselves with the trap.)

The specific weapons that Enemy Ninjas will throw at you are determined by two factors:
  1. What abilities the Enemy Ninja has been randomly assigned.
(e.g. the Ninja must have the "Equip Polearms" (Dragoon Ability) to throw Polearms.)

  2. The Enemy Ninja's Experience Level.
There's no way to control what abilities an Enemy Ninja has learned.
So you can't change what TYPES of weapons they will throw.
(However, you CAN change the Enemy's Levels.)
So, the best strategy if you want to acquire a particular weapon is to look for a Ninja that can throws the right weapon type. Then, adjust his/her Level until it matches what you want in the table above. If you want an Excalibur, find a Ninja that sometimes throws Knight's Swords.
Then LEVEL โฌ†๏ธ / LEVEL โฌ‡๏ธ that Ninja until it is at Level 96.
  • LEVEL โฌ†๏ธ
Let them land successful attacks on you.
(Chantage can really be helpful in surviving attacks.)
  • LEVEL โฌ‡๏ธ
Bring someone with "Beastmaster" (Support Ability) and stand it next to a Mindflayer.
This will allow the Mindflayer to use its "Level Drain" (Ability) which reduces LV by 1.
(You'll only need the Mindflayer if the item you want is not thrown at Level 99.)
Ninjas are more apt to throw powerful weapons when your HP is high. When you're low on HP, the Ninjas will just try to finish you off with a throwing star/bomb or the weaker Nagnarok.
(So, keep your HP if you want to earn powerful weapons!)
ฮฒ - ๐‡๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  (๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‡๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ)
~Creating a Low-Bravery Treasure Hunter (L-B TH)~
The start of Chapter II provides the first fairly painless way to create a "L-B TH" Character. You need low Bravery because the likelihood of finding the better item on each Treasure Hunter tile is 100% minus your Bravery. So to get the most likely chance of 90%, you need a Bravery of 10 (lower than 10 makes you an uncontrollable chicken!). Therefore, at this point it's recommended you pick one Character and lower his or her Bravery to 10 and assign him or her the "Treasure Hunter" (Chemist Ability) before every battle that has Treasure Hunter items you want to get. Some will say you can wait until a bit into Chapter IV to create this Character since there aren't any rare or ultra-rare items to be picked up until then, but if you desire to be a full-fledged OCD player, you'll want to try to pick up as many good items as possible, even if they are common.

To create this "L-B TH" Character, you need the "Mystic" Job available. To get this, level any Character's "Chemist" Job (LV2) to unlock the "White Mage" Job then level the "White Mage" Job (LV3) (will take 3-4 random battles usually), then switch to the "Mystic" Job finally. Now earn another 100 JP in order to learn "Trepidation" (Mystic Ability) by your Character. Then cast this over and over on the Character you've selected to be the Treasure Hunter. Note that "Trepidation" (Mystic Ability) lowers Bravery by 30, and for every 4 Bravery you lower in battle, 1 Bravery is lowered permanently after the battle. So each successful casting lowers your "L-B TH" Character's Bravery by 7. Once your "L-B TH" Character turns into a chicken, finish the battle immediately. Keep doing this for several battles to permanently lower his or her Bravery to exactly 10, ideally, although a Bravery value lower than 16 will cause the end of battle "Desertion Threat" messages. So you could go with 16 Bravery if the message annoys you, but at 16 you'll only have a 84% chance of the good item instead of 90%.

It helps to have many Ether items on hand to refill MP in case "Trepidation" (Mystic Ability) misses, but you canโ€™t buy Ethers until after "Battle 14 - Balias Tor" map. You could use "Chakra" (Monk Ability) to refill MP as well. Note that there are other ways to lower Bravery, and a later Story Character you get has an immediately accessible ability to lower Bravery. So again, you could wait to create this "L-B TH" Character if you wish. If you want to wait, then just pick whoever already has the lowest Bravery (usually around 50) as your Treasure Hunter for now.

~Creating a Stealing Character~
Soon many enemies will have rare equipment equipped that you can't buy but can steal.
(Therefore, it is highly recommended to now develop a Stealing Specialist if you haven't already.)

Technically, none of the ultra-rare stuff to steal appears until later in Chapter IV.
(But if you're OCD, you'll want to steal everything this guide recommends.)

To create this Character, simply:
  1. Train a "Archer" Job (LV3).
    (This takes some time.)
  2. Switch to the "Thief" Job.
(Learn all of the "Steal XXX" abilities.)
  3. Learn either "Concentration" (Archer Ability) / "Brawler" (Monk Ability).
(Which will improve your stealing success rate.)

~Midlight's Deep & Treasure Hunter~
Where is Midlight's Deep?
After you finish the battles at Mullonde Cathedral, go to The Port City of Warjilis.
You will see a scene at the bar, then the way to Midlight's Deep will appear.

I missed an item, what can I do?
If you didn't touch the treasure tile at all, you can just go back to the same floor and try again.

If you picked up the Phoenix Down from the treasure tile instead of the "good" item,
I'm afraid the good item is gone forever--even if you leave the map and re-enter.
You'd have to restore to a previous save to get the item.

I landed on a treasure tile, but I sprung a trap instead of getting a treasure.
Either the Character doesn't have the "Treasure Hunter" (Chemist Ability) equipped, or someone
(either yourself or an enemy) already took the treasure off the tile.
Unfortunately, once EITHER item is taken from a tile (i.e. the good item OR the Phoenix Down),
BOTH of the tile's items are gone forever.
ฮณ - ๐๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ž๐Ÿ๐ข๐ž๐ฅ๐๐ฌ

In below "Battlefields (XXX)" subsections you will find the hidden Treasure you seek.
But first and foremost let us first explain:

~What are "One (or Two) Time Only Battlefields"?~
Many battles in FFT are "One Time Only Battlefields" meaning you can only play them once, which means you must get all four treasure hunter items in the single time you play the maps or you can't ever get them. A handful of maps are "Two Time Only Battlefields" which means you visit that map exactly twice and have two opportunities to grab the Treasure Hunter items.

However, none of the items in the maps in Chapter I are important to get.
Plus it's very tedious to create a "L-B TH" Character at this point, so it's recommended to not even try for the Treasure Hunter items until Chapter II or later.

With this in mind, if you absolutely wanted to get every single Treasure Hunter item in the game:
  • You'd need to create a "L-B TH" Character before "Battle 05 - The Sand Rat's Siech" map.

I used this guide for floor 8 in case you need help:

Friendly reminder that on Nelveska Temple the Nagnarok at 03,03 is at the bottom tile. Some people might go on the top tile and get confused. Its basically inside the temple where Construct 7 spawns at the start of the fight!

Hello, konkon.
It's a pleasure to help The Community.

Just a precaution:
1.Plan ahead.
2.Make separate saves.
3.Backup save files incrementally.

Enjoy this Magnum Opus of a Game.
