The "Poach" (Support Ability) is available to the "Thief" Job for your Characters.

It allows the Character to poach the remains of slain Monsters. Once poached, the player can access "Poachers' Dens" at Trade Cities, where the poached objects will be made into items.
The player can tame and breed their own Monsters and then poach them back in the battle, which is a requirement to poach enemies not normally encountered, such as Wild Boar.

Players can also recruit "Byblos" (Reaver) in Midlight's Deep which is a Unique Unit.
Because it has a "Poach" (Innate Ability) from the start.

~Bug(s) / Glitch(es)~
(This may not be true for the "FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles" release.)
  • The Poach bug allows the player to repetitively poach certain Monsters.
  • Another glitch relates to the weapon equipped by the poacher; some weapons randomly burst the additional offensive magick to the target (Holy for Holy Lance).
If the target Monster does not die from the first weapon attack, but rather from the secondary magick effect, the Monster will simply be KO'd rather than poached.

There are also a number of rare Monsters in Midlight's Deep, to be poached.

Once you've recruited the Monster, just walk between Warjilis and Midlight's Deep.
As the days pass, the Monster will lay eggs and the eggs will hatch into new Monsters.
In fact, breeding Monsters is the ONLY way to get a Wild Boar.
Which in turn is your only source for two rare items:
  • ๐ŸŽ€ Ribbon
  • ๐Ÿ‘œ Fallingstar Bag
If you're serious about poaching, the best tactic for getting these rare items is to:
  • ๐Ÿ’“ "Entice" / "Tame" (Orator Ability) can recruit a Monsters from the species.
  • ๐Ÿ’“ "Dragon's Charm" (Dragonkin Ability) can also recruit "Dragons" / "Hydras" at 100%.

The "Poachers' Dens" are special locations within some of the Towns of Ivalice.
These only appear in Trade Cities:
  • ๐Ÿช Dorter
  • ๐Ÿช Port City of Warjilis
  • ๐Ÿช Trade City of Sal Ghidos
"Poachers' Dens" only begin to appear in Chapter III.
And can only be entered if a unit in Ramza's party has the "Poach" (Thief Ability) equipped.

Here, any Monsters that have been poached will be turned into items that can be bought.
Poached items are typically far less expensive than their counterparts in the Outfitters.
Rare items can also be bought this way.

All items sold to the "Poachers' Dens" will remain there as part of its inventory.
They can be bought again for the same price as they were sold.

The locations here--especially those Monsters of lower tiers--are biased toward earlier finds, so you can get those pelts rolling in early in Chapter III. Earlier game locations have new sets of battles added after Chapter IV, so advanced Monsters in certain families can become easier to find then. When specified, Random Battles should be generated when approaching the area from given direction on the map.

(In the section "ฮด - The Den (Encounters)" you can find in great detail WHEN and WHERE.)

~Random Encounters~
In addition to the main story battles you encounter as you progress through the game, you'll also get into random battles as you move across the map.

Random battles occur at green dots on the map. Whenever you move onto or across a green dot, there is about a 30% (3 in 10) chance that you will get into a random battle.

Rules for Random Battles
Combat functions almost exactly like that in story battles, with a few exceptions:
  • You don't have to deploy Ramza.
  • Battle Trophies are never earned from random battles.
  • Bonus Coin are still earned the same as in story battles.
  • Any Guests on your roster will not participate in random battles.
  • Story battles have mostly Humans, but random battles have mostly Monsters.
  • Until reaching Lionel Castle in Chapter II, you may deploy up to 4 Characters.
Once you reach Lionel Castle, the limit increases to 5 Characters for the rest of the game.

  • In story battles, the enemies usually have a fixed level, even if you level up.
But in random battles, the level of the enemies is based on your own level!

Enemy Levels & Abilities
In random battles, the experience LEVEL of the enemies is based on your own level!
To be specific, it's determined by the highest Character level you have on your roster--even if that Character is not deployed in your active squad! The higher this Character's level is, the stronger the enemies will be. (The experience levels of individual enemies might be lower or higher than this "highest level," but it's that "highest level" that determines the overall strength of the enemy party.)

The EQUIPMENT that most generic enemies use is directly determined by their experience level.
(This is true even in story battles!)
For instance, a level generic 31 Samurai will always have a Muramasa.

Enemy ABILITIES appear to be semi-random. They often have abilities that match their jobs, but sometimes you see less useful combinations, like a Summoner with Jump.

Locations & Enemy Parties
Different locations on the map have different kind of random battle enemies.
In addition, the DIRECTION you enter the location also affects what kind of enemies you see.
For example, if you enter Mandalia Plain heading south from Eagrose, there's a chance you'll encounter a Malboro. But if you enter Mandalia Plain via Gariland or the Brigands' Den, Malboros never appear.

The direction from which you're entering also determines where your team starts on the map.
For instance, if you enter Finnath Creek from the west, you'll start at the top of the river, but if you enter from the east, you'll start at the bottom of the river.

Below, I've listed the types of Monsters and Human enemies that you'll find at each location.
As well as a rough estimate of how often they show up on average.

COMMON Encountered 50% of the time or more on average. UNCOMMON 25% - 49% RARE 8% - 24% VERY RARE < 8%

These are averages, of course, so sometimes you'll encounter 0 of a particular enemy and sometimes you may encounter more than 1. For instance, if the Black Chocobo is Uncommon at a particular area, on average you'll encounter 1 Black Chocobo every 2 to 4 battles (25% to 50% of the time). But, in a given battle, you may see 0 Black Chocobos or you might even see 2 or 3.

As you progress through the game, a wider variety of enemy types will appear in each location. In Chapter I, you'll typically encounter only a limited set of basic Monsters, with some more advanced Monsters and Humans appearing very rarely.
At the start of Chapter II, advanced Monsters and Humans become more common, and even more enemies are added at the start of Chapter IV.

At a small number of locations, you'll occasionally encounter a friendly Guest Character who will help you during a random battle. These are included in the list as well. Most of them won't join you, but a few will join you after the battle and I've noted those as well.

Story Characters with special jobs or enemy-only jobs also don't appear in random battles.

Note that there are a few Monsters / Jobs that are NEVER encountered in random battles:
  • Wild Boar
  • Bard
  • Dancer
  • Mime
  • Dark Knight
  • Onion Knight

~Random Encounters (Midlight's Deep)~
Battles in Midlight's Deep, are basically random battles, and all the rules apply here as well.
(The exception is the story battle that occurs the first time you visit Floor 10 - Terminus.)
When you select a particular floor from its menu, you will always get into a battle.
(Unlike in the overworld, there is no chance of NOT encountering enemies.)
  • Simply moving onto the Midlight's Deep dot on the map will never result in a battle.
  • Each floor has a different map and a different set of enemies.
  • There is only one "entrance" to each floor.

~Chocobo Family~

They are a major mode of transportation and are most commonly recognized species in Ivalice. Player units can mount and ride them by moving onto the square inhabited by an ally Chocobo during a battle and are also immune to certain status effects while mounted. This prevents them from taking action but provides the human unit with high movement and jump abilities.

If the party has "Entice" (Orator Ability) the they can be recruited much like other Monsters.
Or any Job with "Speechcraft" (Command Ability) and "Beast Tongue" (Support Ability) eqp.
Players can also recruit "Boco" (Yellow Chocobo) in Chapter II which is a Unique Unit.

Such as other Recruitable Monsters, Chocobos lay eggs, which can spawn three variations:
(As long there are enough slots avaliable on the party.)
  • Yellow
  • Black
  • Red

Its fast running speed makes it an ideal mount.

Normal Yellow Chocobos are among the first Enemies encountered in the game and their movement range and speed can be dangerous to an inexperienced player. They have the most balanced stats of all Chocobos, and can use "Choco Cure" (Ability) - Similarly to the "Chakra" (Monk Ability) (but recovers only HP and can be used to heal others on a different height).

If the Monster is next to a Character with "Beastmaster" (Support Ability) you can use:
  • "Choco Esuna" (Ability) + "Choco Cure" (Ability) makes a very support-oriented unit.
Enemy Yellow Chocobos are among the best foes to exploit for level and JP grinding:
  • You can surround it, damage it enough so it uses "Choco Cure" (Ability) and repeat.

Ranks II - Black Chocobo

Originally posted by Ramza Beoulve:

The only variety of Chocobo capable of flight.

Black Chocobos can fly. They are considered the "Berserkers" of their kind, possessing the highest physical and magic attack, accompanied by the lowest HP and speed of any other Chocobos in the game, which is compensated by their high physical evasion. Their ranged move, "Choco Pellets" (Ability) makes them more dangerous than their Yellow Chocobo counterparts.
Thanks to their "Fly" (Innate Ability) this variant of Chocobo makes the most ideal mount.

If the Monster is next to a Character with "Beastmaster" (Support Ability) you can use:
  • "Choco Meteor" (Ability) making them as deadly as their Red Chocobo counterparts.

Ranks III - Red Chocobo

Originally posted by Ramza Beoulve:

Considered the finest variety of riding Chocobo.

Red Chocobos have the highest HP and speed of the three Chocobo breeds as well as high magick attack. They are fearsome birds to fight in numbers due to their powerful "Choco Meteor" (Ability) which deals massive damage from long range; the meteorite is shaped like a Chocobo's head. They also have "Ignore Elevation" (Innate Ability) allowing them to easily reach their Enemies regardless of terrain. They are the best ones to be used in battle, considering their high speed, stout stats and ability to ignore terrain height.

If the Monster is next to a Character with "Beastmaster" (Support Ability) you can use:
  • "Choco Cure" (Ability) makes a very support-oriented unit.

~Bug(s) / Glitch(es)~
(This may not be true for the "FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles" release.)
  • This bug can be avoided by the "Swim" / "Waterwalking" (Movement Ability) on the rider.
It triggers by having a human character perform the Jump attack while riding a Chocobo from where the water depth is 2-level. Such water depth prevents combatant from performing any action without the "Swim" / "Waterwalking" (Movement Ability) after the one jumping has landed on the target and returned to the Chocobo, the game will S-F.

All of their stats are inferior to any other monster, except for their evasion. Pigs tend to spend most of the battle retreating to a corner, away from the Players' Units. Minotaurs are a Family of Monsters of Ivalice, they wield pickaxes in battle.
They are usually the first rather Dangerous Enemies encountered in the game, due to their high HP and attack power. Executing non-KO melee attacks against this class of Monster is unwise, because a swift counterattack by the "Bull Demon" will usually deal a hefty amount of damage. Despite the danger involved with fighting them, recruiting a "Minotaur" is a tempting aspect, as their high physical stats make them effective.
They are of the Earth element, therefore have a weakness to Water.

Hydras are arguably the toughest monsters in the world of Ivalice.
Their trio of heads are capable of dishing out trios of devastating attacks, and they can also fly.
Hydras have an enormous amount of HP, at higher levels rivaling the HP of some of the Lucavi.

The best way to defeat them is with strong Dual Wield attacks, or using Ice and Wind attacks.
Physical attacks will always connect on the Hydra class because of their incredibly low Evasion.

Wearing fire-absorbing armor can help alleviate the threat, while carefully picking spots with level adjacent ground to stand on will also reduce the chance of Tri-Flame actually hitting.

Ranks III - Tiamat

Originally posted by Ramza Beoulve:
Tiamats, quite simply, are nightmares. The first ones the players meet will likely have over 600 HP.
Tri-Flame is as dangerous as ever, Tri-Thunder means fire-absorbing armor no longer suffices for complete protection, and Tri-Breath can decimate half the player's forces in one spew.
The player will almost certainly want to get rid of these monsters right away, although taking the risk of an Entice can yield an unstoppable party member.

Hello, NeoRizer.

In the section "ฮณ - The Den (Pens) [List]", there are the name(s) of the battlefield(s).
Albeit not detailed / complete as one should expect.
I shall add a "Encounters" section to remedy this problem.

Can you list which battlefields the enemies are located in?
