ARM/BR01GR Cabler Tech
By Pompadude
This guide covers usage of the ARM/BR01GR Cabler armature. It is an upgrade to the Laborer armature and features a grapple wire that pulls you towards whatever surface or target you hit with it.

The guide contains the how-to obtain info for the Cabler, basic usage of it and techniques to getting the most out of it. In my opinion it is currently one of the best arms in the game for the utility it brings to builds.

ARM/BR01GR Cabler
What is the Cabler?

The Cabler is an Tier 1 armature you can obtain either as a loot drop or by upgrading the ARM/BR01 Laborer at the mechanic.

It is a standard arm that can hold weapons and by it's description has a secondary fire that "fires a medium range wrist-mounted grapple that pulls the user toward the target. Can be fired when the arm is empty, supporting a two handed weapon or holding a small weapon."

This is so versatile because we can use the cable when
a) the Cabler hand is empty
b) the Cabler hand is the supporting one used to wield a two-handed weapon
c) the Cabler hand is holding a single handed weapon like a pistol or smaller melee weapon

The Cabler is an incredible movement tool. If attached to a surface such as the floor at an angle or wall you travel quickly in that direction. You can also cable to enemies and immediately close the distance to them which is ideal for melee builds. You can also use it to dodge enemy fire just like using a regular dash or boost.

Sorry in advance these gifs are a little chunky and might need to buffer before playing back smoothly.

Basic Usage
Here's what cabling to a regular surface looks like

Cabling to an enemy for melee

Using dashes or boosting to manipulate cable angles
Normally doing a beeline at enemies in this game is dangerous, especially if they're about to fire at you. However, using legs with a decent dash distance or boost allows you to manipulate the angle you come in at. Boost legs are especially good for this because depending on how long you hold the boost to the side, you can make a shorter or wider angle with your approach.

Using a long boost to the side to spin around the cable point

Here's what it looks like when used to approach an enemy so that you can try to avoid fire while cabling to your target. It also sets up some cool cut-through moments with the horizontal slashes from one-handed melee weapons like in this gif.

Using a short boost to the side to slide past the enemy while landing a horizontal slash

CABLE HOPPING
Ever wanted to get tons of momentum to quickly travel the map? Jump across an annoying pitfall gap? Have you tried cable hopping? Cabling the ground is already a decently heat efficient way of travelling around maps, however we can get so much extra distance by carrying the momentum of cabling into a jump. All you have to do is hold the jump button after you've cabled the ground. Obviously works better with legs that have better jump heights but is excellent even without.

Cable Hopping with the Strider legs which have an "Extreme" jump height

We can take this even further with torsos like the WV03 Fighting Frog for some sustained flight.

Sliding Over Cars (While I Shoot)
This is only a half tech, cabling the ground is great for sliding over the pesky armored cars quickly. The real tech however is specifically using it on the swarming small spider bots that occasionally show up. For whatever reason using the Cabler pointed at the ground to slide through the swarm spiders gives you a bunch of extra distance until you exit the swarm which is great for dispatching them.

List of Weapons that can be used One-Handed with the Cabler
Rule of thumb is any two-handed weapon that can also be one-handed does not work with cabler, Shields, Spears and Lances also do not work. Most Pistol type guns work with some exceptions and for Melee the CK (combat knife) designated melee weapons work. Any higher Tier variant that is identical to it's lower tier version works the same with the cabler.

  • Ranged Weapons: HC01 Sidestory, TB01L Dagger, TB01 Hammer, TB02/+ Cardinal, TK01 Takedown, AR01 Throwback, R001 Outlaw
  • Melee Weapons: CK01 Combat Knife, CK02 Ritual, CK03 Sacrifice

End of Guide
Thanks for checking the guide out, the Cabler is one of the most fun parts in the game in my opinion. I will maintain the agenda that we should get a higher tier cabler armature with longer range and maybe stronger pull strength! If I find any more interesting tech with it, i'll update the guide further.

Treaded and wheeled legs maintain momentum for a good distance without the need to jump.

I saw that but I meant like in game it should just tell you if your loadout is compatible on a tooltip.

I actually added a small list to the bottom of the guide with the weapons that do allow you to Cable while holding them in the cabler's hand. It's pretty small though understandably.

I wish it was easier to tell what weapons allow you to use the cabler / pilebunkers while wielding them.
