How to play Medic!
1 - Ubercharge charges faster in the set-up countdown (Be sure to build stock uber)

2 - Pull out the medigun

3 - Heal anyone who calls for you

4 - Heal everyone regardless

5 - Prioritize overheal to frontline players

6 - Run away if the situation is unsafe (over-extending)

7 - IF everyone is at full health, give overheal to everyone

8 - IF a teammate is engaging in combat close to you, heal them

9 - Do not pull out your syringe gun and allow your teammate to die to damage

10 - Pull out weapons as a last resort when running away

Extra Tips
-IF an uber you have is sitting be sure to use it on whoever is closest before the enemy picks you off

-IF a enemy is behind you and nearby, kite them around teammates to alert others

-IF a fellow teammate is close to death, during a push and you have an uber. USE IT

this is called an uber save

-IF a teammate is at low health close by use the crossbow bolts for burst health

heal in between the bow reloading

-Depending on the situation, switch mediguns that will bounce the odds in your team's favor

-If you pop and uber with a patient and they destroyed plenty while ubered

kamikaze with them to deal the most damage.

-When stock ubering run first into the front-line (facing backwards)

this is so you do NOT lose site of your patient and tank potential knockback
from sentries and blast damage.

Crossbow bolts negate backscratcher's slow heal rate

If you are throwing the game play around your team or play less aggressively

Take team composition heavily into consideration

Additional Information
(Note: Medigun charges uber faster when healing players not at full health)

Crossbow bolts give out 75+ burst health instantly; minimum

Healing is also influenced by your patient's items

Points

Every 600 heal points you gain one point on the scoreboard

- This includes over-heal during setup time

- Can be a good incentive to heal everyone at all times

- Discourages you from healing only one competent person on your team

The "Pocketing" Dilemma
"Pocketing" means only healing one person specifically with the intent to gain many kills.

This should only ever apply to people on the front-line who need health desperately.

Healing only specific teammates in the back-line is very frowned upon

everybody should be receiving health behind cover; unless they are out of reach.

A good "pocket" is a duo that pushes together reliably, towards the front-line

This is what many duos attempt to achieve, however

You should never neglect your other teammates in the front-line unless you have an

uber-push in process, or busy giving health to another patient.

Be mindful, that flashing people an uber can save lives.

Mediguns
Stock Medigun:

Reliable, will make pushes through sentry nests easier.

However you need to build uber cautiously and mostly stay in the backlines.

This is great during set-up times to build since the charge up time is much faster.

Quick Fix:

Great for healing large groups of people who need health in the next few seconds; otherwise they will die.

This is great for sustainability on the front-line and patients that move around sporadically

However, this medigun is not meant for pushing up into sentry nests

Quick fix is great for farming points

or

right after using a Stock Uber, following the initial push.

Kritzkrieg:

This gun should be used as surprise attacks, and you need to be aware of the enemy team's

Stock Ubercharge.

Use this on patients who are commonly right in front of the enemy lines, or wait until the enemy

pops Stock uber (stay back).

Vaccinator:

This is mainly for defense against a specific team composition on the enemy team.

if a certain damage type possess a greater threat than most others

switch to the Vaccinator.

An excellent counter against aggressive enemy pyros, explosive classes, or snipers.

IF a specific enemy player poses a large threat to your team, be sure to use the Vaccinator.

Which Medic are you?

From: Virgin medic vs Chad Medic
Commentary
Base:

I hardly ever got healed as a DPS class or Demoman whenever I played.
(and it really pissed me off)

I think it's really done out of spite and how one "SHOULD" play medic.

I suppose it stems from the question "If our Medic is bad, why don't YOU go medic?"

So I guess it really incentivized me to play Medic to the absolute most, and master the class.

I believe this is a good thing. Since Medic is an extremely valuable asset to a team.

and if there is no "team". What game are we playing?

Chat Binds:

I have never found chat binds particularly useful; especially with chat clutter

so I have disabled text chat on my hud and look at it only during break segments of the map.

I relish playing with a clean HUD to focus the most optimally so I don't have to stress at

all; even when the match goes downhill, I know what I'm doing.

and I usually have music on in the background to enjoy the experience as medic even more

I believe medic's autocall script really makes playing him much easier; and seeing where the front-line is.

Melee Hits:

I believe this should be avoided at all costs in most situations, unless an enemy is 2 feet away from you.

You should mainly focus on falling back, or healing your teammates.

Closing:

It is a rare site to see dedicated Medic players who take the role as seriously.

I hope my knowledge does not die with me and helps everyone that views this guide, for however many years this game is still alive.

I guess I'm a Medic Main now

excellent guide, both about mindset/objectives and also directly on movement/tactics. I'm pleased to see my way of playing medic spelled out.

another would be to know when to ubersaw and when to not ubersaw (i.e. charge at a spy for free uber only when he's low health)

Overall good one, though you forgot "Pop it, don't drop it"

other tip: If possible, and if it doesnt put you in a bad position, keep your back to a wall to deter spies.
