Silent Hill f Optimisation for 4GB and 6GB VRAM.
By Hex: Jugular Bullet
To help anyone else who wants to experience this game but is limited to 4GB VRAM, 6GB VRAM or equally low specs. I understand these specs do not meet the minimum requirements stated on the game's store page, but game optimisation is so atrocious lately that even those on the highest end PCs are having issues with this game, and UE5 in particular.

External Modification
First thing you need to do is download this optimisation mod by P40L0X on Nexus Mods[www.nexusmods.com]

  • Simply download whichever file you need, and place the Engine.ini file into %localappdata%\SHf\Saved\Config\Windows.

  • This file location will ONLY be created if you have already launched the game at least once so if you haven't, do so.

  • The file itself is already marked as Read Only so it won't be modified when starting the game.

Next, you'll need to add -DX11 to your game's steam launch properties
*Note: on DX11 the game's vegetation can become very low poly, certain trees won't load in properly or textures will look very flat, this is a game issue with DX11 and can't be fixed unless reverting back to DX12 but doing so will effect performance so it's up to you*

  • To do this, click on the game in your library, click on the cog wheel icon, select properties and you will see a large empty rectangular box. Simply type -DX11 into that box

The final step I recommend doing is capping the frames at 60 through NVIDIA or AMD's own software.

That's everything needed for external modifications, next, just launch the game.
Internal Modification
  • Once the game has launched, go into the Settings menu.

  • Make sure the game is in Fullscreen.

  • Turn V-Sync off. Activate it using NVIDIA or AMD's own programme if you experience screen tearing.

  • Set the Frame Rate to Unlimited while capping it at 60 using NVIDIA or AMD's own software.

  • Finally, copy these settings: (Anything that isn't listed can be adjusted however you like or isn't necessary to change)
-Indirect Lighting - Lumen High

-Reflections - Screen Space Reflections

-Shadow Quality - Medium

-Texture Quality - Medium

-Shader Quality - Low

-VIsual Effects Quality - Low

-PostProcessing Quality - Low

-View Distance Quality - Medium

-AntiAliasing - DLSS (or FSR if you have an AMD card)

-AntiAliasing Quality - Performance

-Motion Blur - Off

Finished!
That's it! Now you can enjoy this game in 60fps. It obviously won't look like the prettiest game ever but even though the optimisation is terrible, the graphics on lower settings are still gorgeous to look at.

I kept Shadow Quality, Texture Quality, and View Distance all at Medium as Low ruined the game's visuals too much to the point it was breaking immersion so I think this is a nice balance.

Again, I understand that 4GB and 6GB cards aren't listed in the minimum system requirements but we're in an age where systems that are above the recommended settings are still struggling so I don't really care much about what devs say can and can't run their games.

Any questions or concerns please put them in the comments!
