Look ahead. Take your time. You have to actively work to stop the AI getting extra turns.
Basic moves
  • There's no time limit. Look. Really, look at the whole board, and think ahead. The AI sees every move on the board, before and after it takes its turn. Aim for that.

  • Always always take 4- or 5- of a kinds when they're there. If you don't then the AI will, and that's just giving away free gems. Remember wildcards can form parts of combos - it's not always obvious.

  • Look ahead, Work out what will happen if you choose a certain gem, particularly toward the bottom of the board. Try not to set up 4- or 5- of a kinds that allow the AI to take extra moves, and watch out for accidentally lining up skulls to them as well. Again, the AI is doing this, and doesn't miss a trick.

  • Look ahead, and DO line up 4-s and 5-s for you. Drop otherwise unusable gems into 4s and 5s in your turn by choosing 3s at the bottom of the board.

  • + PARTICULARLY look ahead if you're taking the suggested move. From years of playing, I can almost guarantee that the AI suggested move is the move that the computer would be doing if it had the chance NOW, knowing it's got the next turn. A lot of the time that means that the computer is setting you up to fail. If you spot a suggested move that would leave the computer in a good position (4s, 5s, or skulls), do something banal in another bit of the board - You'll often find the AI will make the initial move in the 'hopes' of getting a another go. If that fails, it leaves you to pick up the good stuff.

  • Never let a troll get a blue gem. Abandon EVERYTHING ELSE to stop it.
