Comparing the slimes
I was testing on my own the differences between common slime and fire slime and I wrote down some things that might be useful.

Common slime :
  • Can be cleaned in water or used to create fire slime even when dead
  • Accumulates up to 5 slimes (one in the slimop and 4 carried in the hand around the map).
  • Can be grouped even when dirty, and 4 can be discarded at once.

    Disadvantages:
  • When dead/completed, can litter the map.

    Fire Slime :

  • Can be rekindled
  • Doesn't stain the map
  • Can be discarded anywhere since it explodes when thrown
  • Even dead, if you throw it into a blood spot, the explosion will clear it.
  • Can kill skeletons.
  • Can clean in area, check next section

    Disadvantages:

  • It doesn't stack
  • You can't carry more than one (you can, but due to the risk of explosion, it's not worth it, in my opinion).
  • Can kill you
About the numbers
I stayed on the map trying to find a pattern or common numbers of cleaning and duration of slimes

And although there is no apparently perfect or super defined pattern, I will leave the numbers I obtained
Consider each number as the total number of blood stains cleaned at a time.

Fire Slime :
  • 6 6 6 6 = 24 bloodstains at total
  • 7 7 6 7 8 = 28 bloodstains at total
  • 10 10 10 10 = 40 bloodstains at total
  • 4 5 4 4 6 5 + ''half of 4 bloods'' = 28 bloodstains at total and just one rub in 4 pools of blood, which makes another pass necessary but the slime died
  • 6 6 6 6 6 4 = 34 bloodstains at total
  • I used a revived fire slime to see if it changed anything and the result = 6 6 6 6 6 6 = 36 bloodstains at total
  • 6 6 6 6 6 6 = 36 bloodstains at total
  • 10 10 10 + ''half of 10'' = 30 + ''5'' same as said before
  • 20 at once, and the slime died instantly

In all my tests with normal slime it gave the same thing, which I consider a fixed pattern, unlike the fire slime which I couldn't find one for.
Regular Slime :
  • In all the tests I did, the slime cleaned 12 blood stains, and died after passing it over the next stain once, resulting in 12 plus half of one
Winner?
In any case, the fire slime proved superior in my opinion. Although it explodes and can kill you, it appears to be superior in all aspects of cleaning and renewal. After all, there are more fire sources than water sources in the current game maps.

If you want to learn more about how to create or renew fire slimes, check out my other guide to fire slimes.
