As for right now, Zeni is extremely tight. The main way to earn it is simply via the Battle Pass and that of course progresses with Battle Pass Missions.

Every character gets a one-time Zeni drop, when you reach a Battle Score of 100.000. To know if you got the drop with one character already, just look for the golden checkmark next to their name in the main menu or during character selection mid-match.

You get 500 Zeni (170 Zeni in Season 0) per character for this and every Season the checkmark resets.

Bonus Missions always gave me 600 Zeni. No other reward. To get Bonus Missions, you need to get 1000 "Pouch Points" or "Bonus Points". You might have noticed the icon for those when you queue and the "any" and "Technical" role have that little " +10 pouch" (+30 soon) symbol on the top right of their card.

Alternatively, you get +100 Bonus Mission Points when you reach an achievement/badge milestone i.e. "Win as the damage role 25 times". You get more points with a victory. The game DOES NOT notify you when you reach 1000 Bonus Mission Points and just gives you a sudden Bonus mission. Hence it feels random sometimes, but it is not.

You can find the "Bonus" tab when you click on Battle Pass and then "Missions" on the top right.

Daily in the Shop you get 1 freebie. It is in the row with where you can purchase Hero Memory. Some days give Zeni, I am unsure if it has a schedule or if it is randomized.

As of right now, the Gekishin Squadra devs are active with promotional events. These have goals of people needing to either A: Participate/Join or B: watch something. There is certain milestone goals like in the picture stated.
