Introduction
For the first time in Liftoff, players can fully customize their HUD with the new OSD Editor.
This tool introduces layout creation, editing, and sharing, giving you more control over how flight data appears in-game!




This is the first version of the OSD Editor.
If you have questions or experience any issues, then be sure to let us know!


Choosing an On-Screen Display
There is a brand-new On-Screen Display section in the Game options.

Here you can select an OSD layout or navigate to the Steam Workshop to browse OSD layouts made by the community!


But to create your own layout, we'll proceed to the OSD Editor!


The OSD Editor
To make your own layouts we have build the OSD Editor, with this tool you can make your own layouts, manage them and share them via the Steam Workshop.

A quick-navigation button to the OSD Editor is included at the On-Screen Display selection menu.

1 Creating a new layout

When you open to the tool for the first time, you will have no custom layouts of your own. To make one you can choose between two templates: a completely clean slate or the default layout used by Liftoff.

2 Editing your layout
Once you have chosen your layout template, your new layout will be opened in the layout editor shown in the image below:

This menu is divided into several sections:
2.1 The OSD item spawner

In the tool, graphical elements of your OSD are called OSD items.
With this menu you can add new OSD items to your OSD layout, simply click on the item you want to add, and it’ll appear pre-selected in the layout window.


2.2 The Layout window

In this window you can view, select and move the OSD items your current layout.
To select any item, simply click on it in this window and a highlight will appear as confirmation.
OSD items can be dragged, slid, snapped and nudged to your preferred location!


2.3 The OSD item inspector
When you select an item, it gets highlighted- and the OSD item spawner menu gets replaced with the OSD item inspector. This window will show you information about the item and menus for all its modifiable properties.

In this example (see image) we have selected the Altitude Display which has basic layout settings, like Alignment and Order- but also individual settings like the Text Color.

Alignment decides which screen point the item is attached to, its position will always be relative to that point, no matter the display resolution.

Order decides if the item is behind or in-front of other items in the layout.


2.4 The Display settings menu
To change the view or behavior of the Layout window, you can change the settings in this movable & collapsable Display settings menu.

To unfold or collapse the menu, simply click on the menu title.
In this menu you can adjust the preview resolution, the preview background, to show/hide the background grid and to enable/disable OSD Items snapping to the background grid.

Toggling Snap to grid will change the behavior of how items are dragged or nudged in the Layout window.

NOTE: the preview resolution does NOT change the saved resolution of your OSD layout, it only shows how it will look on the various resolutions supported by your display.

You can move the Display settings menu by dragging the button in the top right corner (see image).

2.5 The General information panel

Finally, we have the General information panel. Here you can name your layout, save it and leave the Layout editor with the [Return to file menu] button.
Pressing save again will overwrite the currently loaded layout.


3 Managing your OSD layouts

Once you have created your own OSD layouts, they’ll show up in the OSD Editor’s file menu (see image above).
You can edit, share and delete your own layouts within this menu.

As long as you have layouts of your own, this will be the menu you’re greeted with when you enter the OSD editor.

OSD Editor Shortcuts
This chapter gets its own section so you can quickly find it next time you need to.

The OSD Editor has the following shortcuts:

Cancel ongoing action.
If there are no ongoing actions: Deselect item.
Ctrl + Z (Windows/Linux)
Cmd + Z (Mac)
Undo last action.
Ctrl + y (Windows/Linux)
Cmd + y (Mac)
Redo last action.


Finding & activating your new layout.
Once you create a custom layout of your own, or subscribe to a layout on the Steam Workshop, it’ll show up in the 'On-Screen Display' game options on the main- & in-game menus!

Agreed w\ des_.... Let me import my own png's and add key framing or action elements (such as text color change upon X action). MORE MORE MORE!!!

We already added a live clock, the steam avatar and a custom text field graphic.
And there are many more elements to come 😁
