Character
The best character class to use to have the best run from start to finish is the mage. This gives you the advantage of putting distance between you and enemies by primarily using long range weapons, while also giving you a larger variety of starting staffs that you can switch between to conserve crystals in the early game.

The disadvantage of using the mage class is that you will need to play more cautiously since you don't start with as much health. Especially as you progress through the dungeon, make sure you look around at the entrance of each room before entering, so you can back away from any enemies in the vicinity, keeping a greater distance between you and them as you attack them with the staffs.

As you play through, you will naturally get a better grasp on game mechanics and find what artifacts, relics, weapons, etc. work best for your play style, so this guide won't get into too much depth regarding class selection and character building due to the capricious nature of the game.
Mid to Late Game
After you have unlocked all items in the shop, the easiest way to ensure you have a great run is to purchase all three XP pots in the shop prior to starting a new run.

This will allow you to begin the run by instantly gaining 3 levels where you can choose between 3 upgrades.

The trick is, after you choose the first two upgrades, and before you choose your 3rd, you can close out of the game, reopen the game, and restart the level with a total re-roll on all 3 upgrades. This way you are able to choose the upgrades you want to start the dungeon with, giving you a huge starting advantage. I suggest getting at least one inventory capacity upgrade and one artifact capacity upgrade. This way, you can stock up on health potions and character upgrades in the early game.

The same trick can be used after purchasing other items from the shop to re-roll which ones you start the dungeon with. If you have enough coins, I suggest purchasing the potions, crystals, magic weapon, bombs, artifact, and melee weapon (in that order if using mage class)

Additionally, you can use the restart trick to generate a totally different dungeon map at the start of any new level. This can be helpful if you are low on health or other items that can appear in the starting room of a new level. You can also do this at any time during a level, before exiting to the next level, if you are being attacked and will likely lose all your health, or if you feel you could have had a better run and just want to try for better results.

For best results, start the dungeon from level 1 instead of using the level skip portals you unlock as the game progresses. This will allow you to have better chances to encounter a wider variety of items, and more opportunity to gain xp and upgrade. Starting from level 1 is also the best way to stock up on coins for later runs.
