Introduction
Switching from automatic to manual + clutch in Forza Horizon can feel tricky at first, but it makes driving much more engaging. With manual + clutch you get better control over gear shifts, faster launches, and a more authentic racing experience. It also gives you an advantage over both automatic and manual (without clutch), especially in lower class cars (A and below), where every bit of acceleration and control matters. The key is finding a comfortable controller layout so shifting becomes natural and smooth. This guide will show you an easy button setup to make the transition from auto to manual + clutch much easier.
Simple button layout change
  • Go to the game’s Settings → Controls.
  • Select Controller and change your layout:
  • Set Clutch to the A button(X on PS Controller)
  • Move E-Brake to LB (where the clutch was before) (L1 on PS Controller)
  • Set Shift Down to X button, Shift Up to B (Square and O respectively)
Note: using this layout all you need is to press with your thumb both A and B buttons to Shift Up(X and O for PS respectively), A and X buttons to Shift Down(X and Square for PS respectively). You can also try to swipe from A to B(X and O for PS respectively) or X button(Square for PS)

Here's the result:

Steam Input: One Button, Two Actions
Here we’ll dive deeper into the available Steam Input settings for players who want extra advantages without the hassle of pressing multiple buttons. By binding two actions to a single button, you can make manual + clutch driving even smoother and more efficient.

Enabling Steam Input
First, you need to enable the Steam Input system:
  • Connect your controller
  • Open the Forza Horizon page in your Steam Library
  • Click on the controller icon to access Steam Input settings

  • Enable Steam Input
  • Press Edit Layout
  • Set B and X buttons as Left Bumper(O and Square, L1 for PS respectively)
  • Click on the gear icon shown above and select "Add extra command" option

  • Set B for B button, X for X button(O and Square for PS respectively)
Third-Party Apps: One Button, Multiple Actions
Advanced Option: Third-Party Tools

For more advanced use, you can install and download third-party tools that emulate controllers. These programs let you map multiple actions to a single button with more flexibility than Steam Input.

In this section, I’ll show you how it works using the reWASD application.
Note:The link given below I used for educational purposes only, I recommend you to buy this app if you plan to use it.
reWASD from GitHub[github.com]
  • Download and Install the app from the link given above
  • Click "Add game profile" button and name it
  • Select B button on your controller icon and click "Combo" button
  • Add a sequence from buttons in red rectangle in that same order and add pauses
  • Press Save Icon and "Apply to Slot 1" button
  • Repeat the same steps for X button
  • Enjoy!
P.S.: For those who uses PS Controller you can click on "Magic Wand" icon and select Virtual DS4 option
