Hi there! My name is Sophia, and I made this guide to share all the tools and sites I use to make my Steam profiles more creative.

Over time, I’ve collected a lot of helpful resources, and I wanted to put them all in one place for anyone who loves designing their profile as much as I do.

After a few people reached out asking for tips,
I was inspired to finally put this guide together.

Whether you’re completely new to profile customization or have been doing it for a while,
I hope you find the information here inspiring and useful. ♡

When I plan my profiles, I personally like to stick to a theme or a specific colour palette — it helps me decide exactly what to look for in the tools and websites I’ll share later in this guide.

I like to map out how everything will fit together. I use an alt Steam account to test my artworks, text spacing for info boxes, and guides (if they include text).

I’ll also check emotes and Steam Badges that match my theme, and look up the cost of their trading cards.

Sometimes I’ll spend up to a week working behind the scenes designing and curating a profile — just to make sure the colours, themes, spacing, and layout all tie together. I’m a big believer in quality over quantity.

That said, this is just my personal preference! You don’t need a theme at all — you can totally mix and match things you love to create something unique.

Find art that matches your theme or vibe, through Google search or Pinterest. Or if you create your own art — showcase that! Just remember to never claim others art as your own.

When uploading your artwork, you don’t want to do it in the Steam app — you want to log into your browser (Chrome, for example).

Here you can select whether it’s uploaded as an artwork, screenshot, or guide and if you want a transparent background or a long art/screenshot.

📌 Note: If you are on a private browser, Steam app, or don’t have the extension, your upload options will look different.

I use Ezgif for for resizing images/gifs that are too small or too large.

I use Steam Crop Tool for cropping artworks/workshops — it also lets you see if your image needs to be resized larger to fit correctly.

📌 Note: If you have the extension installed that I mentioned earlier you will have easier access to cropping the background from the Steam Points shop.

Picking your perfect background!

Here are the websites I use to find backgrounds and some small tips for using them:

• Filter by colour tags (red, orange, yellow, etc.)
• Search by game or tag
• Sort by newest, price, or popularity

• Shows backgrounds based on user votes
• Clicking a background will show similar ones

• Search by hue, brightness, saturation, name, game, date, price or filter by keyword
• Huge selection, but time-consuming to browse

📌 Note: Preview your backgrounds before buying them.

It lets you preview themes/game profiles, avatars, frames, backgrounds and mini profiles.
This is very useful as sometimes a background might appear to look nice, but once equipped, it may look low quality or different to what you thought.

It's also just nice to see if everything ties together with what you were going for, without committing to spending money or Steam Points.

Some backgrounds and frames don't show up with this extension (unsure why, maybe they are new)

📌 Tip: sometimes an emote won't have the keyword in it. So I like to sort by hue and scroll through the colour I have selected.

You can also try:

It lets you search by keyword, just take note that half of the time the webpage won't load and will show an error message saying the site is taking to long to respond or cannot be reached. I think this may be due to heavy traffic. Just try your luck!

Lastly you can always browse your Steam friends badges and see if they have any you like.

Sometimes a background or emote will have the text:

"This item can no longer be bought or sold on the Community Market"

This means it has been removed from the Market and Steam Points shop and the only way to obtain said item is by trading with someone who owns it.


Sometimes you might come across an emote or background that’s still available in the Points Shop but has no active listings on the Community Market. In that case, you can place a buy order at your chosen price — just remember, the highest buy orders are filled first.

Alternatively, if the item is still in the Points Shop, you could consider buying the game and unlocking it with Steam Points instead.

📌 Note: There have been items I have found that items are still sold on the Community Market but are no longer available in the Points Shop and that is why some items are sold at a more expensive price.

🔗Invisible Character Tool ≫

This website lets you copy and paste an invisible character, which is super handy when editing your info boxes. A normal space bar doesn’t work properly for formatting or centering on Steam.

This isn’t an in-depth centering guide — it’s more about trial and error. You’ll need to add or remove spaces, then preview your page until everything looks just right.

On Steam, levelling up is all about crafting badges. You’ll earn some trading cards just by playing the games you own, but it’s not enough to complete a full set. To finish them, you can buy the remaining cards on the Community Market or trade with friends if they have what you need.

This is the slow-and-steady approach, but if you enjoy collecting badges you love, you’ll naturally level up over time.

If you’re aiming to unlock showcases faster, there are paid services that can boost your level much quicker. Since you only earn a new showcase slot every 10 levels, this can be a big help if you want to display more on your profile.
