Quick Guide
Done in Q&A style for quick understanding.

Question 1: What on Earth does Recall button do to ships?

Answer: Recall moves ships to your location. By "your location", we mean your avatar's location. Therefore, if you're playing the Campaign, your Avatar is Thomas Lock. If Thomas Lock is in Sector ABC, then your ships will find their own way to go to Sector ABC.

Question 2: Why does my ships go back to ME instead of my base?

Answer: The main purpose of the recall button is to recover ships that are left stranded far out in space so that you can regain control of it.

Question 3: Why does my ships go suicidal when I recall?

Answer: Ships will attempt to find the nearest route back to you. As such, they might inadvertently plot a path that crosses the enemy's base or defensive lines and therefore damaging or destroying your ships down in the process.

Question 4: When should I use recall then?

Answer: As mentioned - it's meant to return ships to you so that you can (re)gain control of it. Remember, once you recall; you cannot stop the ship until you have direct control (when it's near enough to your position).

Therefore, the following should be done:

STEP 1: The shortest path between you and your ships to be recalled must be clear of enemies.
STEP 2: If the shortest path is ambigious, ie, more than 1 possibility, then you can move your Avatar to a better position for recovery.

Question 5: OK I give up. What else can I do?

Answer: Create a fleet. Assign that stranded ship to that fleet. But take note, that stranded ship will automatically travel towards the fleet's flagship position. Though it can be stop temporarily via the fleet's STOP button. Therefore. it's best to clear a path to the fleet anyway.

The other alternative is to left the stranded ship there first. Even stranded, it can still turn and fire.
