Treasure Hunt
Achievement: Treasure Hunter
Solve the mysterious man's treasure hunt

Messages in a bottle are random events during your play. You might have accidentally skipped through them without reading them. Here are the messages:

Bottle 1
You find a crumpled note which reads:
D, your share is at the bottom of the lake under the dock at Ingram Pond. -K

(Ingram Lake, Helen's Fish Market)

Bottle 2
A treasure was hidden by a mysterious man.
The path isn't easy, you must have a plan.
But go right ahead if you think you can hack it.
The first stage of your journey is beneath the dock at Backett.

(Backett Pond, Ann's BOAT Shop)

Fish under the docks and try and catch any fish you hook. It can seem real finnicky, but keep at it. Make sure you are using a sinking lure.

One bottle results in a small amount of money. The other gives you a Treasure Hunt Kit Module. I'm unclear if it's one and then the other or if they are tied to specific bottles. I got the paltry amount of credits from the Ingram bottle and the kit from Backett.

The Treasure Hunt Kit should guide you from here. If you were just having trouble getting this hidden side quest started, consider putting the guide away now and challenging yourself through the rest of the treasure hunt.

Spoilers

Gold Reservoir

Don't forget to use a sinking lure.

Growing Lake

Lake Cyclops

If you're not landing on the right spot, try overshooting it and dragging along into the eye.

Crying Basin

You're going to need to be able to do short-range teleports to get to this spot. There are multiple options, but the easiest would be the Short-Ranged Teleporter Module which you can buy from a dock in Orrah Lake (among others) for 200 cr.

Oh, and I don't care much about the achievements anyway. It's just that even with most of the pre-IFS "endgame" gear (and ULT still intact) I still haven't figured a better way of farming the money other than taking the high pay off ULT contracts. I guess that with ULT gone from the sight, I will get into the "IFS era" where contracts are much more rewarding? Not knowing what is awaiting me and not having ALL of the relevant top network gear, I feel a lot of reservation getting rid of it for good — even though this is obviously the next step the game is expecting me to do.

Guess I needed to be more precise with what I meant... I'd say even the rod quest is kind of worth it, since you can sell the rod not too cheaply. Also, many side quests give out decent amounts of money for the trouble. Like that "quick! I need a particular fish!" guy — 250 is not much, but you can catch that fish right there in a span of just few minutes if not seconds.

But with this club, I don't know... I have already given them their "Twoot Dance" while keeping the lake record one all to myself. Quite an interesting and tough species to catch, I'll give them that...
Now they are asking me for four 12lbers. I do already have the fishies in my inventory, but I don't want to give them up, since those are mostly my lake records. So, I guess I'm off to another tricky hunt. And I just looked up the guide and saw they are offering 2k for the trouble, so at this point it's definitely worth it. Not sure how much time I will waste on this though...

Additionally, that particular quest has an achievement associated with it.

None of the side quests are "worth it". Early on in a playthrough they'll give a nice little money-boost. Treasure Hunt gives you a fishing pole that you likely won't use. That's about it?

I assumed most people looking for a guide on Side Quests were trying to get 21 side quests completed for the IFS after the main story has been completed, or wanted a guide on the Treasure Hunt for the achievement.

Is the Barnaby fishing club quest worth the trouble? I even pulled out the lake record Twoot Dance, but couldn't land any other specimens that even reach 3lbs let alone going over 4. Seems like the short range teleporter might be the right tool here, and yet apart from that lake record it didn't help a ton.
