Watch_Dogs 2 - Fix for sky, shadows, water flickering on RTX 50 GPUs [Vulkan]
By 彡𒑚𒉼𒑚彡
Summary: If you see flickering sky, shadows or water on modern NVIDIA GPUs, the issue can be fixed by running the game through Vulkan with DXVK. This method is quick, reversible, and works on Steam (Ubisoft overlay must be off).

Steps

1. Download DXVKDXVK 2.7.1 GitHub Release[github.com]. Extract it.
Use the x64 folder (game is 64-bit).

2. Open game folder → In Steam: Library → Watch_Dogs 2 → Manage → Browse local files → open bin.
(Optional: back up the folder first.)

3. Install → Copy
d3d11.dll
and
dxgi.dll
from the DXVK x64 folder into bin.

4. Disable overlays (they often cause flicker):
– Ubisoft Connect → Settings → General → disable in-game overlay.
– Turn off GeForce Experience overlay.
– Disable RTSS, ReShade, Discord overlays.

5. Verify (optional) → Create a text file dxvk.conf in bin with:
dxvk.hud = fps,devinfo

If you see “DXVK” in the corner when launching, it works. Delete the file later.

Tips
- Use Borderless mode if Exclusive Fullscreen behaves oddly.
- Avoid Ultra Textures if rare flicker remains.
- If the game won’t start, delete the two DLLs to revert.
- Older DXVK 1.3.3 also works for some users.

Uninstall
Just delete
d3d11.dll
and
dxgi.dll
from the bin folder. The game will run with normal DirectX 11 again.

The 50 series is very complicated. I bought one recently, and playing older games is torture. I'm playing Red Dead 2, and it's causing a lot of simultaneous graphics glitches. I hope Nvidia fixes these drivers soon.

If the game crashes on launch after installing DXVK, check that you don't have MSI Afterburner running (I encountered this problem myself and spent a couple of hours looking for a solution)

Also, despite the fact that it is believed that DXVK makes it impossible to play online because the game fails the anti-cheat check, I found that I can play online (although sometimes I get a message saying that I have been disconnected because the anti-cheat is not working, but in a week of playing, I only saw this message a couple of times)
