Startup Fix

Download the latest version of d3d8to9 from GitHub [github.com]. Currently, the latest release is v1.13.0. You only need the d3d8.dll file.
Copy the d3d8.dll file into your Max Payne 2 installation folder.
- If you’re not sure where that is, go to your Steam Library → right-click Max Payne 2 → Manage → Browse local files. (Example shown below)
Paste the d3d8.dll file into the game folder.
That's it! After copying the DLL file, Max Payne 2 should launch smoothly on modern systems. Enjoy the game!

Game still won’t start?

Make sure d3d8.dll is in the same folder as MaxPayne2.exe.
Verify game files in Steam.
Check if there’s already another d3d8.dll in the folder (from an older mod/fix) — replace it with the new one.

Virus Warnings

I scanned the latest release myself with VirusTotal and it came back 100% clean.
Some antiviruses might throw a false warning because the DLL “injects” into DirectX (that’s exactly how it fixes the game).
Just make sure you download from the official GitHub page, not random sites.
