The Comprehensive Collectibles Guide (MGS Δ)
By staticsnake
BEWARE! This guide might be spoiler-heavy since it's been heavily expanded upon and with screenshots added now.

This is about an easy to use guide, ideally on Steam Overlay while playing, for finding all the things for unlockables, like collectibles that pass to the next playthrough, all animals, food, weapons, items, camo, facepaints, hidden first-person views (FPV) in cutscenes, easter eggs, secret film reels for the Secret Theater, some random achievements in good spots, and miscellaneous fun to be had along the way. Also added various Boss Fights tips when relevant.

For the most part, all you gotta do is check what area you're in, and go to the relevant section. They're ordered mostly based on story and a good path through the game, with some exceptions asking you to take particular paths. There's an Introduction section with an overview, various tips, and some screenshots to help you understand the game to some degree, and then the Virtuous and Snake Eater Missions are separated clearly.

Some of the guides details may differ slightly depending on what difficulty you are on or how you decide to play. Some items probably don't even appear on harder difficulties.

This Delta version of the guide is repurposed from my previous Collectibles Guide from the Master Collection. Credit mainly to PowerPyx[www.powerpyx.com] for most of the initial info years ago, along with misc. other sources, and just a lot of my own past knowledge and current playthroughs.

All screenshots added are my own.

~~~Introduction~~~
There are 64 Ga-Ko's (new), 64 Kerotan's, 48 Food, 59 Camouflage, 25 Face Paints, 15 Secret Film Reels (also new), and various Weapons/Items. Everything is in the same place as in previous game versions, except Ga-Ko's and film reels which are completely new to the Delta version.
Note that controls referenced throughout this guide are based on the games New Style, and I've tried to mention buttons for typical controllers.
Items and things mentioned in each area are generally grouped and ordered best I could based on when you might encounter them or a good path through. So it's mostly linear.
Starting / Playing the Game
At the start of the game you can pick between different “I like” options to instantly get access to some camos/face paints. What you pick here doesn’t matter like it used to in previous versions. All of these are automatically unlocked after finishing the story for the 1st time.
Difficulty
Difficulties also don't seem to be restricted for Delta like in previous versions. So you could play on easier difficulties to unlock everything and enjoy yourself and then have things available for subsequent playthroughs on harder difficulties. Though certain things like specific final ranks cannot be obtained if using certain items.
Saves
Despite an autosave, get in the habit of saving often. The guide will recommend times when you absolutely should save first starting an area, especially with sections that likely could be failed and need a retry. Saves always begin at the start of an area.
Most progress won't be remembered unless you cross to another area and save, however in the Delta version of the game they are much more forgiving about collectibles such as Ga-Ko, Kerotan, and Secret Film Reels. If you get one without saving and then reload the save for that area, you'll still automatically have them. Those seem to be tied not to your individual playthrough save but a more universal and real-time save.
Killing Bosses
While you cannot kill the bosses, because you need to defeat them non-lethally them for their various camo’s (collectibles), I don’t believe a no-kill run gives any collectible award outside of an achievement or specific codename at the end. So if you are not worried about the achievement on this playthrough, then go nuts. Just don’t kill the bosses.
Defeat bosses non-lethally by draining their stamina, especially with use of tranquilizer guns and Stun Grenades.
Knockouts and Sleepovers
Remember that if you have to knock out a guard (stars over their head), when they wake up an alert will usually begin and patrol patterns will change. If you have ammo you're willing to spare, shooting them with a tranquilizer will switch them to asleep, and the stars over their head will change to Z's. Then when they wake up you're unlikely to have to deal with an alert. This only matters in certain areas and depending on how long you're spending in that area.
Switching Camo Quickly
Delta comes with a nifty quick-camo-switch menu during gameplay. It can come in handy for not getting detected in areas with a lot of varying terrain to deal with and is a nice time-saver from the older versions of the game. You hold the Up Directional button, use the right analog stick, and press X / A button on your choice to quick switch, after you've set it up once from the camo menu. This quick switch camo menu I think is a collection of your latest or most-used camo combinations.
Cardboard Boxes
All of the cardboard boxes can only be found during the Snake Eater mission. Each respective section of the guide where these can be found will also list them and remind you of them, in addition to this.
Cardboard Box A
The first Cardboard Box you can find is in Rassvet, the same area where you meet with EVA the first time. Go to the north end of the destroyed warehouse and climb on top of some crates. You will find the floating cardboard box on these crates.
This box is labeled “To the Weapons Lab: East Wing.” This can be helpful your first time through Groznyj Grad at night.
Cardboard Box B
The third Cardboard Box you can find is in Tikhogornyj: Behind Waterfall. Go down the tunnel behind the cave until you reach a red door. Instead of going through the door, go to the end of the tunnel to find this box in the right corner near a roadblock.
This box is labeled “To the Weapons Lab: Hanger.” This can be helpful your second time through Groznyj Grad during daytime.
Cardboard Box C
The second Cardboard Box you can find is in Groznyj Grad Southeast. Go behind the Jail building and look for a small path between it and the wall, on the eastern side. You can find this box along this path.
“The writing on the side is faded and illegible.”
Fun With Boxes & Trucks
Another time, when you AREN'T going for all the collectibles, something fun you can do, and can help you shortcut the game, is head to the northern part of Groznyj Grad Northwest where there's a cargo truck each time you're there.
If you crawl inside the back of the cargo truck, your acquired Cardboard Boxes can help you get to other areas faster. Box A will take you inside a storage room of the East Wing, and later in the game, Box B will take you to the Main Wing with the Shagohod.
There's a similar truck in the northern part of Groznyj Grad Northeast as well during your daytime return trip.
Traps and Environmental Danger
Also known as "booby" traps, watch out for these in certain areas of the game that can be instant kill, harmful, or in some cases just annoying. Though, it is also possible to use them against enemies if you're clever, or forceful, enough.
A non-comprehensive list of areas known to have some of these traps include Chyornyj Prud, Bolshaya Past South, Chyornaya Peschera Cave Entrance (claymores and crevices), Graniny Gorki South (a LOT here), Svyatogornyj South & West, and I think also Tikhogornyj and Zaozyorje.
It's highly recommend to save at the start of areas with traps, just in case.
Here's some examples so you know what you're looking for, including other harmful things not necessarily considered to be "traps."
Pitfall Hole Trap
Square hole with a wooden border andleaves thrown over the top to hide it. Instant death if fallen into. Looking overhead from top of a tree in Svyatogornyj West.
Harder-to-see one in muddier area Chyornyj Prud:
Tripwires
Tripwires are usually outstretched between two trees, and if viewed through thermal goggles, give off a slight heat signature. They can be avoided by crawling under, rolling over, or activating them from afar with a grenade or other weapon. Here's a few in Bolshaya Past South.
Tripwires can be attached to a variety of devices, which when triggered, result in the following actions:
  • Spiked pendulum: A log fitted with sharpened stakes will swing down into the path of the victim, causing severe lacerations. It will either be aligned horizontally or vertically, depending on the width of the passageway. Look for tripwires, and look up to see the trap set before breaking the tripwire. Here's a vertical one in Bolshaya Past South after it has been tripped.
    Here's a horizontal one in Graniny Gorki South still set up above, and another to the back-left in view.
  • Clappers: A series of tin cans are rattled, giving away the location of an enemy and drawing attention of guards, if nearby. Here's one strung up above in Bolshaya Past South.
  • Grenade: One end of the tripwire is affixed to a partially loosened grenade pin, causing severe injury to a person, and alerting nearby guards. Here's a close look at the grenade attached to the tripwire in Graniny Gorki South.
  • Arrows: A series of poisonous arrows are launched near the tripwire location. These seem less common, but there's definitely some in Graniny Gorki South.
Snare
Not deadly, but inconvenient. Can get yourself down with the action button. Usually accompanied by a funny CODEC call. Here's one in Graniny Gorki South.
Claymores
Usually easily seen on the ground. Crawl prone behind them to pick them up. They blow up if movement occurs in front of their placement. Lots in Bolshaya Past South.
Electric Fences
Lots in the Bolshaya Past areas, but in some other parts of the game as well. Will harm Snake and knock him down, and probably draw attention.
Most have holes cut in them to either crawl prone through, or dive/roll through with Triangle / Y button. Look for spots where the wires are cut open.
You can also shoot the power source boxes to disable them. Interrogating guards might reveal this. Sometimes it could make a noise that draws attention.
Crevices
Such as at the end of Chyornaya Peschera Cave Entrance, you can fall off either side fairly easily and instantly die. Especially since Snake doesn't turn very well in this version of the game, be careful.
Bridges
Such as in Dolinovodno, you can fall off either side of the bridge fairly easily and instantly die, however, so can the guards ... hint hint. Unless you're going for no kills. There are ropes holding the bridge up that can be shot. It makes the bridge a lot less stable.
Mousetraps
Are you serious? ... Look, if Snake gets caught in a mousetrap, then perhaps they'd have been better off sending Para-Medic to do the job. You can set a bunch of Mousetraps underneath the building in Rassvet during your Virtuous Mission, and they will still be there catching things when you come back during the Snake Eater mission. This might work in other return areas too. I found this out by accident.
EVA
Don't fall for it. Trust me. Don't take the noodles. ... ugh, you're not gonna listen and this entire saga is gonna be set right off, ain't it? Coulda had a time paradox...
Secret Radio Frequencies
Use the CODEC in manual scan mode for these. Some have extra instructions. Area-specific ones will also be in those parts of the guide.
Healing Radio
These get added to a new CODEC menu for repeat use. The first time, your stamina will instantly be restored to full. Using one also unlocks an achievement.
Collectibles
The Delta version comes with new collectible trackers in the Main Menu via the Extras menu. You can save and quit the game essentially at any time and check your progress or see more details about various collected items.
Missed Collectibles
At least in terms of filling out the Collections trackers from the Extras menu, you can grab missed collectibles on the next playthrough or in any save file from any point, in which case you only need to collect the ones you missed (a change from previous versions of MGS3).
For example, if you missed one Ga-Ko or Food, you only need to collect that missed one and not all of them again within a sole playthrough.
All collectible progress is also shared across all of your saves and carries over between playthroughs. If you missed anything you can grab it from the nearest save. You can jump between saves and it will retroactively get added to the Collections. The only time it's necessary to finish the game is to trigger obtainment of a title, and maybe some achievements that don't trigger until game end.
Camo
Volgin and The Boss specifically drop their camo next to them and you only have a brief moment post-battle and before a cutscene to grab them.
There are two ways to unlock the stealth camo:
  • play through the game without recording a single alert
  • shoot all 64 Kerotan (the little green frogs). The Kerotan are noted in this guide.
Collecting all Ga-Ko's unlocks the AT-Camo (Ghillie Suit) which makes the Foxhound Rank much easier to obtain.
Food
Food & Camouflage can be tracked under Main Menu > Extras > Food Collection / Camouflage Collection. Stats can be tracked during the playthrough under Pause Menu > Records & Titles. In the Survival Viewer > Food menu during gameplay (where you go to actually eat food), there's also a new tracker at the bottom-middle of each type of food. It will say FOOD COLLECTION and give you the number of times eaten (I'm pretty sure across all saves).
You MUST EAT at least 1 of every food for it to count (to be logged as collected), which I'm pretty sure is a change from previous versions. Be sure to EAT them all once, even if you need to save and reload. In fact there's a new counter telling you how many times you have eaten a food overall. Just finding one of each food and having it in your inventory is not enough. Eating increases the % counter in the Food Collection menu (new to Delta) and is mandatory for the Gastronome trophy/achievement.
The Pain Hornets’ Nest
To get The Pain Hornets’ Nest (a special different one) you must keep one Hornets' Nest item in your food inventory (not eaten) until reaching The Pain boss fight. The guide will make note of this as we go.
Tsuchinoko
A very strange EXCEPTION is the Tsuchinoko. For that, you MUST catch and keep it alive (in your food cages, you get 3 slots) in your inventory through to the end of the game for a different purpose. See the Bolshaya Past South section in this guide for my preferred location of, as well as details about, acquiring it.
You're going to have to make a manual save after acquiring it, eat it to get it logged in the Collections menu, then reload the save with the not-eaten one and keep it with you alive until the end of the game, including re-acquiring it after the waterfall Eva scene. Don't worry, the guide will reference this multiple times throughout in the relevant areas.
There is at least one Para-Medic CODEC call to be had regarding this snake, only AFTER you have acquired it.
Ga-Ko and Kerotan
In the sections referencing Ga-Ko and Kerotan, I will try to add images of the map showing their locations as well as a visual of Snake looking at them. The map should show both, but I'll try to include it with whichever one Snake is closest to when it applies.
In the pause menu it shows how many Ga-Ko's and Kerotan's you have found (bottom-right of screen when paused during gameplay). It will also have a checkbox above their heads to check off whether or not you have gotten them in your present area.
The Ga-Ko's are always in the same area as the Kerotan's. They also get marked on the world map after collecting them, so you can visually check each map when you're in an area. They will both make noise for a short time after being hit, and endlessly spin in circles when you have gotten them, even on subsequent playthroughs of any difficulty, even without having completed the game, and even without using the same save file.
Use the Directional Mic if you are unsure if a Kerotan/Ga-Ko is making a noise. They are more visually noticeable in this remake, however, so that should help you confirm that you got it. Ga-Ko also always have ghillie camo on initially, and then no longer have camo if you have gotten it.
I have confirmed the Kerotan's and the Ga-Ko's are RIDICULOUSLY forgiving compared to prior versions. I had gotten them both in one area and NOT yet progressed to the next area nor saved yet and the game and Steam completely crashed. I reloaded my manual save from the start of that area before I did anything and when I came back, they were marked on the map and already spinning. The Collections log must be getting saved in real-time.
Hidden First-Person Views (FPV) in Cutscenes
There are six first-person cutscenes that do not have an R1 / RB prompt in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. They will be pointed out in the guide in the correct sections.
It is highly recommended to save before you reach the cutscenes just in case you need to redo it. In some cases, the area before an FPV coming up notes this is upcoming, especially when you otherwise would not have had a chance to save beforehand, such as when they immediately begin upon entering an area.
In the prior versions of the game I found it helpful to just hold the button the whole time, but am not sure that fully works in Delta. There's also at least one that additionally requires you to look a certain direction while viewing it.
These all take place later in the Snake Eater Mission, and the game areas you'll find with these hidden FPV's are:
  • Krasnogorje Mountaintop — Labeled as Krasnogorje Mountaintop: Behind Ruins in this guide.
  • Groznyj Grad (Torture Scene) — Labeled as Groznyj Grad Jail / Torture Room (post-Torture) in this guide.
  • Shagohod Boss Fight — Labeled as Groznyj Grad Rail Bridge / Boss Fight in this guide.
  • The Boss Fight — Labeled as Rokovoj Bereg in this guide.
  • Ending (President's Office) — Labeled as WIG Escape (Duel with Ocelot) / Post Game in this guide.
  • Ending (Graveyard) — Labeled as WIG Escape (Duel with Ocelot) / Post Game in this guide.
Secret Film Reels
Secret Reels are small movie reels that certain guards carry around in Metal Gear Solid Delta. They can be seen attached to them somewhere, usually on their back, front, or side. If successfully collected, these can be played in the Secret Theater, an exclusive feature that is unlocked by beating the game once. There are a total of 15 Secret Reels throughout the entire game.
You can snatch the Secret Reels from guards by holding them up and making them wiggle, dislodging the reel and allowing you to collect it. To hold up a guard, you must sneak up behind them (hold L1 / LB to sneak in a slower mode) and pull a gun on them before they notice you (L2 / LT to aim when close to them, be careful not to accidentally CQC). Then, while they are standing with their hands in the air, point the gun at their head or crotch to make them wiggle their hips and dislodge the Secret Reel. This can be tricky, especially depending on the placement of the guard, but that's all part of the challenge. If you have a guard held up on the ground, shoot near his head or body to get him to wiggle. Regarding hold-ups in general, most guards will give you two items.
There is a hack for holding up guards, but note the catch. If you tranquilize a guard and kick him about five times, he will wake up slowly, giving you enough time to hold him up while he recovers. This DOES NOT WORK for the Secret Reels, however. As soon as you shoot a guard, with a tranq gun or otherwise, the Secret Reel will be destroyed (you'll probably see the film reel flying in the air if destroyed. You have to hold them up the hard way to get them.
For that reason, I recommend saving manually at the beginning of each area with a film reel just in case you have issues and need to try again. The guide will suggest this in every respective area.
I also noticed even after you have acquired a film reel from a guard, on subsequent returns, that guard will still be carrying it and you can hold them up to see them throw it out again. Or if you shoot the guard you can still see the film destruction animation despite the fact you already obtained it. You won't actually "collect" it again or get the pop-up description about it on a repeat attempt after having already acquired it, though.
Here's some views of guards with their secret reels hanging on them, so you have an idea what you're looking for:
~~~Virtuous Mission~~~
The following sections are for doing during the Virtuous Mission specifically, until you hit the Snake Eater Mission.
Dremuchij South
Remember this time around you have to EAT each food item once after obtaining it. Check your progress in the Main Menu > Extras menu.
  • Weapon (Survival Knife) – Automatically obtained story weapon. You start with this weapon.
  • Face Paint (Mask) – Automatically obtained story face paint. You start with this.
  • Weapon (Mk22) – Automatically obtained story weapon. Acquired after collecting your backpack.
  • Weapon (EZ Gun) – If starting a new game on Very Easy only, you get this after collecting your backpack. Otherwise, it is unlocked at the end of the game after earning the markhor codename for collecting all 48 animals and plants (listed in this guide).
  • Snake G (Giant Anaconda) – Moving around throughout this area. I usually find it just north past the backpack tree off the grass just before proceeding to the next area.
  • Mushroom C (Siberian Ink Cap) – Where you started, at the base of either tree on the right or left just before the log you crawl under to go get your backpack. Also to the left of the snake described above, at base of another tree.

  • Kerotan #1 – After getting your backpack. Go back under the log to where you started in the area, take the east slope up to the top of the ridge. When facing the tree that had your backpack, look to your left (south) to see this on a rock, it might be behind a tree next to you.
  • Ga-Ko #1 – On the rock next to the Kerotan above.

  • Bird D (Magpie) – There are two in the grass at the top of this hill next to the cliff. They probably flew away when you came up here. If you want, there's an easier way to get one in the next area Dremuchij Swampland, but if you go back down the slope and sneak up the hill slowly (they'll probably return) and you should be able to get one hopping around in the grass. Note there also may be a LF Med (Life Medicine) up here on the corner of the ridge on easier difficulties.
  • Mushroom A (Russian Oyster Mushroom) – On a tree stump to the left (west) of where you started. See the log you can climb over.
  • Snake H (Reticulated Python) – Numerous of them moving around throughout this area. If you go back under that log to the left (west) of where you originally started, into the dead-end area with the Mk-22 tranq bullets, and there's two of these snakes in there.
  • Frog B (Tree Frog) – Hopping around in a patch of grass to the right of the log you had to crawl under to go get your backpack. Near one of the spots for Mushroom C. They're green and blend in with the greenery well. There's actually 2 of them between that area and before the hill up to the Kerotan, they move around a decent amount. Watch for the grass and greenery moving more than it should.
  • Fruit B (Russian False Mango) – Hanging way up above on a tree to the left of the one where you collected your backpack. They're green.
  • D Med (Digestive Medicine) – Should drop with the Fruit B (Mango) above.
Dremuchij Swampland
  • Indian Gavial – Crocodiles found in the swamp area, kill one with the knife to collect its meat. Best to crouch perpendicular to one on its side and not get too close. It'll take a lot of knife to kill it.

  • Ga-Ko #2 – On the island in the middle of the swamp, in between the tree.

  • Hornets' Nest – Hanging in a tree in the center of the island in the middle of the muddy swamp right after you enter this area. If you eat this one, you won't have to waste one in the Snake Eater mission later (cause it needs to be saved). This should also drop an Ointment.
  • Bird D (Magpie) – If you didn't get this in Dremuchij South, there's usually 1 or 2 of these that sits on a branch right next to or above where the Hornets' Nest is on the center island. They come and go, so you may have to sit and wait quietly for a few seconds and one will fly onto the branch and you can shoot it before it flies away again. They are dark, almost black. There will be other opportunities for this bird too. This may be the easiest time to get one.

  • Kerotan #2 – After the muddy swamp, when you're back on land, stand in the 2nd patch of grass that you come to, just before a set of trees that are in the middle of the area in front of you, look to the right between trees off the walkable path to see this on a rock (or the risen part of land you aren't allowed to go on to). It blends in with the green very well.
There also may be a MK22 suppressor on the patch of land on the left side of the muddy swamp, left of the exit of the mud, opposite of where you entered the area. Before you move on to the Kerotan.
Dremuchij North
You will encounter the first guards in the game here. This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry.
  • The Beginning is the End Secret Reel #1 – The very first guard you come across in the game after leaving the Dremuchij Swamplands. Find a long passageway with a tree on the right side of the entrance. That tree provides the perfect hiding spot for you to lie in wait and pull your gun on the guard who is slowly walking up the passageway. Or crawl through the log on the left and sneak up behind him as he turns away from you. I could see this one hanging on the right side of his backpack.

  • Weapon (SVD) – As soon as you enter the area there is a path on the right leading to the weapon at the end.
  • Bug Juice – To the left (west) of where that first guard entered the area is a hollow log laying on the ground. Inside it.
  • Bird E (Sunda Whistling-Thrush) – In and near the patch of grass on the ground where the first guard entered from. Where the initial open area leads to the next. There's usually two on the ground, one closer to you, and one farther away but it eventually comes near the left edge of the grass where you can see it. They're black, and much easier to see in Delta now. Don't worry, you can also get this later in Rassvet if you want.
  • Fruit C (Golova) – This is hanging off a tree to the right of those birds. Very high up, and blending in with the leaves. Somewhat small fruit. The tree is slightly behind where the guard was at first and to the right, after the first clearing, in the narrow space heading to the fork between paths.
  • Fruit A (Yabloko Moloko) – Go directly north from where you entered the area to the very end, past Fruit C. You will see these bronze colored fruit hanging from a tree above. Essentially above where the 2nd guard is patrolling in circles. They're more brown.
  • Weapon (Grenade) – In a tree stump in the northern part of the area, in the clearing described above for Fruit A, just before and to the left of that fruits tree, directly ahead from where you entered. Also found in many other locations and from shaking down guards.

  • Ga-Ko #3 – Just behind the tree with Fruit A, on a log next to a rock.

  • Weapon (Stun Grenade) – To the right of where you find Fruit C and Bird E, down the other path from the fork in the paths, opposite side from the climbable tree, there is a fallen log and a tree stump, it’s behind these. Also found in many other locations and from shaking down guards.
  • Bird D (Magpie) – If you didn't grab this in Dremuchij Swampland, then from facing the north exit, go right and down to an area with a large patch of grass by a log.

  • Kerotan #3 – Just past the patch of grass where Bird D was. This is in the far right area just before the northern exit. You will see a log next to a tree stump, this is on top of the stump. It's best to face south to see it. There's also some Mk22 bullets inside the stump.
Dolinovodno
Make a save upon entering this area, as there's a few competing things to do and you may wind up wanting to retry. This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry.
  • Gotcha This Time! Secret Reel #2 – You will find it attached to the first of the two guards walking your way across the bridge (so, basically guard 2 of the 3 that you encounter). There is one guard on your side of the bridge to take care of first, however. If you shoot the Hornets' Nest above the guard, it scares them away (see next item below). This does earn you an achievement and is fun, but it scares all the guards away for a while. They will all come back into the area after roughly 2 full minutes of being gone into the next area. So you'll have some time to get across the bridge,m get some items, and hide (I recommend on the grassy ridge). The one with the reel does return with it and was at the front of the 3 upon return when I tried this out. I saw this one hanging on his chest.

  • Hornets' Nest – If you didn't get this in Dremuchij Swampland beforehand, then as soon as you enter the area look directly ahead to see a guard stood by the bridge, way above him and slightly to the right will be a Hornets' Nest in a tree, shoot it while the guard is near the bridge entrance to scare the guard away and collect it. This should net you an achievement. However, it may make the Secret Reel stated above hard to get. Note there's another one after and straight past the bridge. Essentially hanging over the corner where you go left. Look very far up. You should also be able to hear them. It could be another opportunity to have some fun upon their return.

  • Kerotan #4 – Just before crossing the bridge, find this on top of the left bridge support.
  • Ga-Ko #4 – After crossing the bridge, you should see this straight ahead on the rocky platform next to a tree, above a patch of grass. This duck has camo on its body, only its yellow face is visible.

  • Weapon (XM16E1) – After crossing the bridge, follow the path around to the left and under the bridge to find this in an alcove. You can also hang, drop, and catch yourself on a branch under the end of the bridge to this area below.
Rassvet
All of these can be gotten before or after the cutscene. It's probably easier after.

If you shoot some of the walls outside the room Sokolov is in (like the wall where the Ga-Ko is), or the roof, or generally use weapons near his room, you can hear him shrieking or asking you to stop. You can also lean against the wall and tap on it and make him nervous, or blow something up like the rollable barrels. Very fun.

  • Kerotan #5 – From entering the area, go directly north in to the first partially destroyed building to see a hole to the left of the staircase, under the floor that it leads to, look through the hole to see it.

  • Weapon (M37) – Turn around from shooting the above Kerotan and you’ll see this right behind some crates ahead of you.

  • Ga-Ko #5 – Go to the back of the partially destroyed building, left of where you go to meet Sokolov. Behind the crates you will find this on a shelf. There may be a LF Med to the left of the Ga-Ko on the floor.

  • Rat – Go under the main building where you meet Sokolov, there is a crawl space on the west side near a step up up into the broken building, or there's a crawl space near the front, or there is a crawl space by some crates around the back of the building. You can find rats here under the building.
  • Bird E (Sunda Whistling-Thrush) – If you didn't get this in Dremuchij North, then climb the ladder around back to the roof of the main building, and don't move. You should see two of them for easy shooting.

There may be a suppressor for the XM16E1 at the top of the stairs above the Kerotan hole, behind the barrel.

After the cutscene, you can get a mousetrap off Ocelot if you pick him up and drop him. No idea why.

Post-Rassvet
Proceed after Sokolov by heading back to Dolinovodno.

After some cutscenes, you will regain control of Snake and have to CURE yourself. If you use first-person view, or maybe the Camera if you have it, try looking to the left. You might be able to spot an easter egg.

Okay clean yourself up and we'll see you in the next mission.
~~~Snake Eater Mission~~~
The following sections are for doing during the Snake Eater Mission specifically.
Dremuchij East
  • Weapon (M1911A1) – Automatically obtained story weapon. You start with this weapon.
  • Kerotan #6 – Shortly after you start, move forward to a larger area with patches of grass and trees, to your left you will see some stumps and logs that form what looks like a small shelter up against the left side ridge, you will find it in here. It's under and in them all. You almost need to go past it slightly and look down and under them.
  • Ga-Ko #6 – Just to the right of the Kerotan above.
  • Medicinal Plant (C Med) – Turn around from where you shot the Kerotan, go directly forwards to find this plant between two patches of grass against a wall. It's to the right before the path leading to the next area. It's got some purple flowers on it.
  • Medicinal Plant (Disinfect) – Just a little south directly from the C Med plant is another plant at the base of a thin tree near the fallen log. North of the fallen log. It's actually more in the center of the area. It's a thin and tall plant with a little bit of yellow flowers on it.
  • Styptic – At the base of a thin tree on the far east edge of the clearing. It is a very green and leafy plant and barely seems special at all, but you can kick, shoot, or knife it to get this. There's no grass directly around it, so you can spot it.
  • Japanese Flying Squirrel – I tend to get lucky and there's one straight ahead at the start, climbing the first tree in the next clearing. But in the middle of this area, look at the trees, every so often a flying squirrel will glide between and climb up the trees here. They're pretty easy to see flying and climbing up the tree. I think one of them goes in kind of a triangle between trees. Check each tree and keep an eye out for it gliding between them. I find it most often on the large tree on the left just after entering the area next to the large fallen log, or it might fly from the north down on to the grass on the ground just south of that tree.
Note there is a point of no return drop-down ledge at the start of the next area.
Dremuchij North
After you drop down off the ledge and head forward, the following Snake F is right in front of you dangling from a tree about the time when you hear a horse, so stop when you hear it and look around.
  • Snake F (Green Tree Python) – After dropping down the ledge, just ahead of you hanging off of a tree in plain sight. Make sure to not go past as you will trigger a cutscene and lose your weapon and will have to come back to get this after you meet EVA in Rassvet. You can also get this in other areas such as during the fight with The Boss at the end of the game, but this is the easiest time.
Important: From this point, if you didn’t start on very easy and therefore don’t have the EZ Gun, you won’t have any weapons until you meet EVA in Rassvet, so you can’t get some of the below collectibles. I'd recommend in that case, you hold off until you meet EVA and have some guns, then return to this area (and this point in the guide) and follow on from here to get what you missed.
However, if you do have the EZ Gun, then disregard this and proceed.
Also FYI that soon after the cutscene, a CAUTION begins. If you immediately exit to the area south, and then return, the CAUTION will go away and the guards will just be patrolling as normal, which can be helpful. Or you can also try to deal with the guards quickly before they can see the issue and start a CAUTION.
  • Ga-Ko #7 – Following the cutscene with The Boss, on top of a burnt and broken tree by the wreckage of the plane. North of it. Up very high.
  • Snake A (King Cobra) – Following the cutscene with The Boss, go directly ahead to find this snake in the first patch of grass you come across, the two guards are coming from this direction right after the cutscene here. If you're returning here after having gotten guns from EVA, then at the large clearing in the south part of the area, where The Boss disarmed Snake, face north towards the next areas, in the narrow space heading to the fork between paths, the first patch of grass here just before the fork, the snake is usually to the right in the grass next to the base of the tree.
  • Kerotan #7 – Go right after collecting Snake A to see a tree on the left you can climb, at the top, turn around to face west and find this on the top of the rocky area.
After collecting everything here, take a detour and go backwards to Dremuchij Swampland.
Dremuchij Swampland
  • Kerotan #8 – When entering the swamp from the north (because you're backtracking), go right (west) onto the right hand side patch of land, you will find this behind a few trees on the right at the northern part of this patch of land.
  • Ga-Ko #8 – Then go across the island and to the other patch of land on the other eastern side and look at the fallen tree on the left (north), it's on top.
Now backtrack to Dremuchij South.
Dremuchij South
Remember, this is where the Virtuous Mission began, where Snake had to get his backpack, like a good school boy.
  • Japanese Flyring Squirrel – If you didn't get one earlier, you can sometimes find one at the base of a tree (facing south) just to the left of the log you crawled under after starting the previous Virtuous Mission, it's just south of the tree Snake's backpack was on during that Mission.
  • Medicinal Plant (Splint) – At the base of the tree described above. It has purple flowers on it.
  • Markhor – Right where you started this area in the Virtuous Mission, after moving under the log. One of these can also be found in the northern part of Sokrovenno North later in the game. You can also find a European Rabbit around this same area near the cliff edge.
  • Ga-Ko #9 – In the same area with the Markhor, where the Virtuous Mission originally started. Face south over the cliff. Look to your right (a little west) at the cliffs you cannot reach. Look at about Snake's eye-level when crouched or prone. It has the camo on and is facing south overlooking the cliffs.
  • Kerotan #9 – After going under the log, look right (directly northwest from where Virtuous Mission began), it’s beyond a tree stump and over a fallen log which have two Mushroom A’s on them. Stand on the log and look ahead and slightly up, you should easily be able to see this on the far end on a rocky area.
  • Medicinal Plant (Styptic) – If you didn't get one earlier, hop over the log in to the area where the Kerotan is. It’s at the base of some trees in the back right of this area. To the right of the Chaff Grenade box described below. The plant is very green and leafy.
  • Chaff Grenade – Same little area as the above Styptic Plant. This is easily found all over the game though.
There's also some Grenades and Stun Grenades on the other side just past where the Markhor was, and a Disinfect plant (yellow flowers) at the base of a tree at the base of the slope. There's also another C Med plant at the base of the right side tree just before you leave north on your way out of here.
Now go back through Dremuchij Swampland to return to Dremuchij North and then take the northern exit to Dolinovodno to proceed.
Dolinovodno
As soon as you enter the area look directly ahead to see a guard stood by the bridge, above him will be a Hornets' Nest, shoot it to scare the guard away and collect it. Make sure to keep this Hornets' Nest in your inventory. It’s needed for an additional food item that can only be obtained during The Pain boss fight! You must have it in your inventory during The Pain boss fight later. You should have eaten one during the Virtuous mission already, so there should be no need to eat it. You also had a chance to get more before we got here. You only need to ensure you keep at least one in your inventory until that fight.
Also note that if you take too long here, that guard will walk back from Rassvet in 2-3 minutes. That's the direction you need to go, so there's a chance he might spot you on your way out.
  • Kerotan #10 – After crossing the bridge, look to your right. The Kerotan is on a rocky ledge above the patch of grass, near the cliff.
  • Ga-Ko #10 – Directly below the Kerotan on the same rocks, has camo and slightly blends in with the vegetation on the rocks.
  • Camo (Raindrop) – After crossing the bridge, take the path to the left and around to find this in the alcove under the bridge. Again, you can also drop down from the bridge and catch on the branch if you want.
  • Weapon (Smoke Grenade) – By the above camo. Also found in many other locations and from shaking down guards. There also may be a LF Med down there in certain difficulties.
Rassvet
There are no guards here when you first enter. They don't show up until morning. So you can initially run round freely.
  • Weapon (AK-47) – In the first partially destroyed building directly ahead after entering the area, at the top of the stairs.
  • Weapon (Magazine) – You can basically do this at any time in the game, but might as well do it now with a gun you're unlikely to use in an area with no guards to be alerted. Fire an entire clip of the AK you just picked up until Snake reloads it to get a throwable magazine in your inventory. There's nothing to pick up, just check your weapon inventory for a Magazine to confirm you now have one.
  • Kerotan #11 – Under the stairs from where you found the AK-47, behind the used cylinders.
  • Ga-Ko #11 – On top of the building where you meet Eva, on one of the corners of the roof, on the support beam. You can shoot it from the stairs where you found AK-47, or climb up the ladder behind the building and shoot it from the roof.
  • Face Paint (Zombie) – Around the back of the building where you meet EVA, behind some barrels. You can get this before or after meeting EVA.
  • Mine Detector – Before you go into the room to meet EVA, it's to the right in a corner just before the door to that room. You can apparently grab this after you meet EVA as well. Thanks to EbolaEx in the comments for helping refine this.
  • Thermal Goggles – In the locker in the room where you meet EVA in (and previously met Sokolov in). Because you don't meet EVA until you enter and then leave this room, you can grab it before meeting EVA by grabbing it before exiting the room at night. Or you can grab it after the cutscenes.
  • Cardboard Box A – The north part of the destroyed building in the middle of the open room. Use the X / A action button to climb up on the crates to get it.
  • Weapon (Mk22) – Automatically obtained story weapon. Given to you by EVA.
There's also some Smoke Grenades in the northern center part of this area in a corner behind some boxes. North of the Kerotan. There is also Bug Juice near the locked northeast gate you'll exit through later to continue the story.
Go into the room Sokolov was in and then exit to trigger the cutscene and progress the story. If you are going for no alerts and/or no kills, I recommend saving after the cutscene, when the soldiers are looking for you. Just in case something goes wrong.
Important: If you didn’t start on very easy difficulty and therefore don’t have the EZ Gun, you won’t have any weapons until you met EVA here in Rassvet, so you couldn’t get some of the above collectibles since back in Dremuchij North in the Snake Eater Mission. After you have a weapon obtained from EVA, ignore progressing the story and backtrack to return to Dremuchij North, and go back to the Snake Eater Mission section of this guide for Dremuchij North above and follow the guide until you get back here again to ensure you grab everything you missed.
Chyornyj Prud
Recommend saving here. Remember that if a crocodile gets you from behind, you are dead. Be careful.
Here, you can equip the Scientist camo you were just provided by EVA and roll through the mud at the shore of the lake with Triangle / Y button and crawl through the mud with Circle / B button until an achievement unlocks.
Also, while you're in this area, don't forget to burn leeches off with the Cigar in the CURE menu, and do it one more time when you're leaving. You should probably also call Para-Medic with leeches all over your body for a funny CODEC.
  • Snake D (Coral Snake) – Upon entering the area you can find this moving around the area just before the water. This looks almost identical to Snake E.
  • Snake E (Milk Snake) – Upon entering the area you can find this moving around the area just before the water. This looks almost identical to Snake D. You can get a Para-Medic codec call about these snakes if you call her.
  • Weapon (WP Grenade) – On the left side at the start of the area, in some shallow water at the shore. Also found in many other locations and from shaking down guards.
  • Frog A (Otton Frog) – Swimming around in the shallow water near the shore. These are also very common and you may have already gotten one.
  • Frog C (Poison Dart Frog) – In the same general area as Frog A. More colorful and easier to spot.
  • Camo (GA-KO) – Follow the far-right wall of the area to reach the northeastern-most part with shallow water. Thermal Goggles can help spot this, but I found it much easier to see in the Delta version. Be sure you eventually call SIGINT while wearing this camo and get a funny codec call involving him and Para-Medic. I usually have to try many times and get through lots of other codec conversations before this one happens.
  • Weapon (Chaff Grenade) – By the above camo. Thermal Goggles can help spot this. Also found in many other locations and from shaking down guards.
  • Ga-Ko #12 – This is basically directly west from the GA-KO Camo above. Run across the northern patch of land heading west, and you'll pass two exits, and a tripwire trap to your right. Where the land ends and it goes into the water, there is a tree sticking out of the water with a rope on it leading to an item, it’s sitting on a branch from this tree. (Just FYI, my map here is when I'm on the other side on the Croc Cap island. Don't let it confuse you.)
  • Kerotan #12 – It’s underwater at the base of the tree described with Ga-Ko above. You can technically shoot it from the land, but you can easily swim down and shoot it underwater. Get south of the water tree and face north at its base underwater.
  • Fish C (Arowana) – In the central and west side of the area, in the deeper water. Remember you can shoot guns underwater. I most easily find one just before the logs described below on my way to the Croc Cap. Also you cannot tranquilize it. They'll just sleep and you can't pick them up. It has to be a lethal weapon. Watch out for the Gavials (Crocodiles). Remember they can kill you if they get behind you.
  • Croc Cap – That item referenced by Kerotan #12 (with the tree rope leading to it on an overlook) is a Crocodile Cap. You gotta go far left or west in the water, about midway through the area, swim under some fallen logs on the water, and come out in a north-western area separated from the rest. On the map, it's the separated section on the left, swim in via the thin south part of it on the map. Watch out because as you come out of the water to an open clearing on the land, there's some traps here like a hole trap, some of which can instant kill you. Stick to the walls and edges. First make sure you have full stamina, you're gonna need it (burn leeches off in CURE with the cigar and eat food). Climb the tree in the right of this area (next to the water). It has a rope heading to a tree in the water. Then go along the rope out over the water until the other crossing rope is directly below you (look down in first person if it helps), then drop with Circle / B button and catch yourself on that rope below with X / A button. The good news is the hanging gauge (time you can hang until you drop, look at your stamina bar while hanging) resets to full when you grab on to the 2nd rope, just like in the previous versions of this game, so you don't have to make it across both all with one set of stamina hanging gauge. Then shimmy up along that rope onto a section of land otherwise unreachable. Drop on that land and you'll find the Croc Cap. It's above where the Kerotan was in the water. It's an item, not a mask or Camo. You can theoretically use it to hide in certain water and not be spotted by guards.
There are Stun Grenades and M1911A1 bullets on top of the water just south of the Kerotan next to the left or west side ridge wall where the Croc Cap is up above on the land.
There are also Grenades and Mk22 bullets in the shallow water as you come up from swimming under the west side log on your way to the Croc Cap tree.
Bolshaya Past South
This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry. It might even make the most sense to make it carefully to the NEXT area and then come back in from that side to save and retry. Remember to sneak up slowly (L1 / Left Bumper), and then also aim your gun instead of using the CQC. I've screwed this up a few times holding up a guard.
This area also has electric fences. Some of them have openings cut in them. You also can look for a rectangular metal box that controls it to shoot and break, removing the electric part of the fence. They have a red light on them when turned on. This is not necessary to progress though.
  • Weapon (Claymore) – Depending on from where you entered, after passing the first electrified fence, equip your Thermal Goggles and look around. Near the 2nd fence you will see many claymores, approach one from behind while crawling to collect it. Though they are seriously easier to spot without Thermal Goggles in this Delta version. Also found in some other locations.
  • Ga-Ko #13 – On a branch on the tree you can use to climb over the 2nd electric fence. The tree is on the left, or western side of the 2nd fence. Climb up the vine on the side of the tree to the branch Snake can stand on to cross over the fence. While up there, turn around and look back and up to a higher branch on the same tree. Watch out for a dog down below that can alert guards. Even tranquilizing the dog might get a guards attention to come and investigate. Dogs also don't stay asleep very long.
  • Camo (Splitter) – After getting past the 3rd electric fence with the guard dog nearby, take the path on the right to come to a swampy area. Climb up on the ledge on the right side of this area to find the camo at the end of the path.
  • Kerotan – #13 – Right after the above camo, to the right of the guard in front of the fence are a few trees, the Kerotan is hidden in the middle of them. Its noise may even be an opportunity to lure the closest guard away, which could come in handy for the Secret Reel described below, since the other guard has it. This extra guard may not be here though on easier difficulties.
  • Get Down! Secret Reel #3 – Where the guard above was mentioned, there are actually two guards, each guarding either side of an opening in the middle of this last fence in the area (on easier difficulties it may only be one guard). You are facing the direction you need to go, so they are facing back at you and not patrolling. The guard to your left has it. Be careful of another guard up on the hill past the fence, and one that likes to patrol from where the dog was. You'll have to find a way to take out the other guards and leave the one with the reel to hold up. If you carefully make your way around to the other side, the western side, there is a hole in the fence to crawl through, just to the right of some thin trees. Then you can turn right and stick him up from behind.
  • Camo (Choco Chip) – Once you’ve gone through the above mentioned fence, on the left side is a tree stump with the camo inside.
Tsuchinoko
  • TSUCHINOKO – SUPER IMPORTANT! See notes on the next area Bolshaya Past Base for this since you'll need a mousetrap from there. Return to these instructions after acquiring the mousetraps in the next area.
On the eastern side of this area (your right side the first time you came through here, your left side upon returning to this area from Bolshaya Past Base) are two swampy/muddy pools of water with a guard that patrols near them (this is near where the Splitter Camo was). Place a mousetrap between the two pools, on the thin muddy bridge of land between them. Here's the map location and an image of Snake facing north showing where the ideal spot is to place the mousetrap:
Exit the area and wait a little bit (recommend saving here). Re-enter Bolshaya Past South and you should hear an item-like noise upon re-entry (the same kind of item noise like when you kill an animal and it turns into an item you can pick up), signifying that the mousetrap caught something. If you don’t hear a noise, exit and re-enter until you do. If you heard a noise, go to where your mousetrap was, and it should have turned into a live animal cage to pick up (so make sure you have room to pick it up, since you can only have 3 live animals at once). It should be the Tsuchinoko. Here's an example of the now-cage to pick up, and the text on-screen you see when it's successfully acquired:
If you want your mousetrap back, you have to also pick that up by crawling over it.
This snake MUST be caught and kept ALIVE for the entire game. DO NOT EAT OR DISPOSE OF THIS ANIMAL (see exception below)!
For the collectibles list in Delta now, you need to EAT the Tsuchinoko in order to add it. I would make a manual save with it upon entering the next area, eat it to get it logged in the Collections menu, then reload your save and confirm you still have it alive, and keep it with you alive until the complete end of the game, including re-acquiring it after the waterfall Eva scene in (Tikhogornyj). Don't worry, the guide later on reminds you about all of this in the relevant sections.
Other info about this snake is at the top of this guide under the Introduction > Food > Tsuchinoko section.
  • Face Paint (Snow) – As soon as you enter the area from the western side entrance, there's a mounted gun pointed roughly in your direction, it's in the trenches on this west side behind that mounted gun, under a wooden bridge.
  • Payback Secret Reel #4 – Inside the inner fenced area, there's a large building, and a guard is guarding an entrance door next to a ladder (this door is on the southwest corner of the building facing the southwestern entrance to this entire area). If you got the Snow Face Paint first, there's an opening of the inner fence on the northwestern side of the building right near it. You can go in that way and come up the side of the building around the corner from the guard (Be careful about a guard northwest outside the outer fence that may see you). Come up to the corner and peek around to see the guard at the door next to the building ladder. You probably won't be able to sneak up behind him with him so close to the building, so throw something (like a magazine, or a food item) in front of him to get him to move to investigate so you can sneak up behind him. Hold him up and get his reel.
  • Camo (Water) – On the roof of the main building in the center of the area, in the top left corner. Climb the ladder referenced above in the southwest corner of that main building.
  • Kerotan #14 – Inside the above mentioned building, under a desk/chair in the southeast corner of the building.
  • Weapon (Mousetrap) – There are 2 mousetraps here, one is in the central building under a bed, and another in the food storage hut just outside of this building on the north side. MAKE SURE TO GRAB THESE FOR THE TSUCHINOKO referenced in the prior area!
When you enter the food storage hut, there are two rats in there. Hilariously, opening the door to enter has a chance to kill one of them. Guess Snake and a door is the REAL mousetrap.
  • Russian Ration (Food) – Inside the same storage hut as the second mousetrap (food storage hut). Be sure to eat for 100% food collection.
  • Calorie Mate (Food) – Inside the same storage hut as the Russian Ration above.
  • Weapon (TNT) – In the ammo storage building in the northwest corner of the area (outside the fenced/trenched helipad area). Also found in some other locations. You can blow up the building you found them in to reduce enemy munitions later on in the game, and blow up the helicopter in this area to prevent it from patrolling the mountains later in the game.
    You can actually use the TNT to blow up every food storage, armory, or communications room/building in many areas throughout the game. It will often make guards hungry and with less ammo/weapons.
  • Ga-Ko #14 – On the roof of that ammo storage building (above). It's on the top northwest corner of the roof of the building. The same building where you find TNT (below). Blowing up the building with TNT is not sufficient to get the Ga-Ko, you'll have to shoot it.
There's some Mk22 bullets and an M1911A1 suppressor in the room with the Kerotan. There are Stun Grenades underneath the food storage hut. There's a book in the trench in an underground tunnel north of the helipad, kind of towards the north exit of the area, on the eastern side (the guide points out one more specifically to grab in Graniny Gorki South). There's a LF Med and some CURE items (in some difficulties) in the building just before you exit to the north. There's various other items to stock up on in all of the buildings and throughout some of the trenches, especially under the bridges.
Important: Before proceeding, it’s time to grab the Tsuchinoko now that you have mousetraps. The best place is to backtrack to Bolshaya Past South, see that section above for instructions.
WARNING: As soon as you proceed to the next area Bolshaya Past Crevice, there is no returning to prior areas. Be sure you're done with the previous areas and maybe make a manual save. You could backtrack to the prior area and then come back here so you can manually save and not lose anything. THEN proceed with the story.
Bolshaya Past Crevice / Boss Fight
You must get these before the end of the fight, also make sure to defeat him by depleting his stamina with non-lethal weapons EZ Gun/Mk22 and maybe some Stun Grenades (needed to get the camo in the next area and for achievement to not kill anyone).
Probably a good idea to make a manual save at the start of the fight in case you need a retry. Some other tips and funny things about Ocelot are at the bottom of this section.
  • Ga-Ko #15 – Once you start the fight with Ocelot. From where you start, walk to the far left (east) on Ocelot’s side. To the left of the leftmost tree on Ocelot’s side, there’s a patch of grass. While standing in the left front corner of your area, aim at the middle of the patch of grass and slighty above it. There on the rocks is the duck but it has full camo on and is very hard to see. It's directly north.
  • Kerotan #15 – From where you started the fight with Ocelot, turn around and go south to the back left of the area (the southeast part of the area), look across the crevice (face south towards Ocelot's soldiers, facing away from Ocelot) to find this at the base of a tree on the other side hidden in the grass.
Ocelot Tips
For the Ocelot battle, it's finicky, but sometimes in the middle of the fight you can walk to the very center up close to the edge facing his side. Depending on where he's at, this may trigger him to also approach for a quick draw duel. You'll both put away your weapons and just have a staring contest until someone does something.
Shooting the Hornets' Nests when he is below them will also annoy him. They temporarily distract him sometimes as he deals with them, allowing you to get a shot in.
You can also throw a live animal at him to annoy him. I threw a live Snake on top of him while he was reloading and he does a slightly unique thing and reacts. I'm not sure if a poisonous animal might do something, but you can try.
Remember that if you defeated him non-lethally, then his camo should be immediately next to you after the cutscene in the dark cave.
About halfway through the fight, or if you hide too much, he may start using ricochet bullets. You can tell by the red lines instead of the usual bullet flying path lines.
Chyornaya Peschera Cave Branch
Don't move once you regain control of Snake. Be sure to read the Camo (Animals) item below. If you grabbed the Thermal Goggles (you better have), you can use those here to some degree. I find it better to just wait a few minutes and Snake's eyes will adjust to the cave and you'll be able to see a bit better. In fact I feel like this adjustment happens a tad faster in this Delta version of the game than it used. Or I'm just more patient now. You can also equip the Cigar if you want, which provides a small amount of light at the expense of health.
Note that items in water may be easier to see with Thermal Goggles on.
  • Camo (Animals) – As soon as you start, it is directly in front of you on a small rock that Snake can walk on. Use the Thermal Goggles, wait for the eye adjustment, or just slowly walk forward. It’s the reward for defeating Ocelot by depleting his stamina. It won't disappear immediately (if Snake just sits there for a while before moving), but I'm not sure if it disappears if you walk away and come back.
  • Kenyan Mangrove Crab – In the same area, you will see several of these using the Thermal Goggles.
  • Weapon (Torch) – To find the Torch, from the starting point, take the exit forward and on the right, stick to the left wall to a left exit of this 2nd room, and you’ll head down a hall until you eventually come across a 3rd open room with 2 waterfalls somewhat on the right, there is a small opening between them housing the Torch with a Russian Glow Cap, skeleton, Kenyan Mangrove Crabs, and some other Grenade item or something.
  • Ga-Ko #16 – On top of the archway leading to the torch, next to the right side waterfall. You can see it from where you entered the area the torch is in, and looking up.
  • Mushroom E (Russian Glow Cap) – Right by where you found the Torch.
  • Vampire Bat – Opposite the water where you found the Torch (directly west from it), there is a small opening in the wall leading north, careful not to fall off the left side partway there, then you'll come to a crawl space, and continue on through to come to a room with bats on the ceiling (chuck a Stun Grenade in the room and look away before entering, it's fun). There's also some serum and Med's in the bats room. Here's a map from the Torch:
    These bats can also be found in many other sections of this specific cave, and elsewhere through the game like as referenced in this guide in Chyornaya Peschera Cave Entrance (post-The Pain fight), or on the ceiling of the hallway at the bottom of the stairs in Groznyj Grad Underground Tunnel before you fight The Fury.
  • Kerotan #16 – Go through the other crawl space opposite the way you came in to the vampire bat room (east side of room, wide opening crawl space) which leads to another room with a hole in the middle, it is just past and above the hole (try not to fall in yet). Also grab the NVGs here. There's just a Russian Ration in the hole and not worth it. Let's actually head back to get some better items.
Use the NVG's now if you prefer. Now you will want to backtrack back through the crawl space, through the bat cave, through the next crawl space, and back to that western ledge you weren't supposed to fall off of on your way to the bat cave initially. You can drop off that ledge now (it's now on your right as you are heading back south). You'll find another Russian Glow Cap and a battery. Could be useful. Head down and drop into the water (there's bullets at the bottom of the deep water if you want them). If you notice an underwater space to swim through on one side, it merely leads to that Russian Ration and hole I suggested you don't waste your time with, so don't bother here either. Just cross to the other side, exit the water in the south and head up the hall. You should now be back to where you first started and picked up the Animals camo. Go into the next room again like when you first started. Here's a map with directions from the Kerotan back to the start, skipping the hole with the Russian Ration:
  • Snake B (Taiwanese Cobra) – In this room, there's a left path to where you had found the Torch, there's a crawlspace in the middle, and a right side path. Go down the path to the right of the crawlspace to find the snake by a skeleton.
Return to that middle crawlspace previously referenced and go through it. Come out on top of the waterfall above where the Torch was found, where the Gak-Ko is, there's a Serum to your left exiting the long crawlspace, don't fall off, and instead go right from the crawlspace, heading north, stay to the right and go down that path. There's another skeleton and some more items in this next room, to the right, there's more bats on the ceiling, and some Bug Juice to the left near the end of the room. Keep going down the next hall until you enter the next area. Here's a map of this path:
Chyornaya Peschera Cave / Boss Fight
Oddly, when you begin the next area it's a bit darker, as if Snake's eyes haven't adjusted yet. Wait a few minutes for that to adjust again if you want.
Note that items in water may be easier to see with Thermal Goggles on.
  • Weapon (M37) – Immediately take the right path as soon as you enter the area to find this in a room with a skeleton, some other items, and animals.
  • Camo (Snow) – Then continue forward (north), use the wide opening crawlspace after grabbing the M37 to find this at the end of the path.
Take the next very long crawlspace that winds back around to the west, and when you exit it, there's an area you'll have missed to the left (south) if you wanna look for other things.
The Pain Boss Fight / 2nd Part of Chyornaya Peschera Cave
To continue your progress, go right (north) after the crawlspace above. This will trigger a cutscene and a boss fight.
  • Kerotan #17 – You can shoot this before (if you don't walk forward too much), during or after The Pain fight. It’s above the platform he is on, on top of the giant open hole in the ceiling way up above. Here it is BEFORE reaching the cutscene for the fight:
The Pain Hornets' Nest
NOTE: This is highly missable.
  • The Pain Hornets' Nest – This is the food item you saved your Hornets' Nest for, it can only be obtained here.
During The Pain boss fight, here's some instructions and screenshots to help:
1. Equip the nest as a weapon from your backpack.
2. Select it as a weapon during the battle.
3. Allow The Pain to use his attack where bees swarm you and stick to your body. You may need to maneuver around to avoid his other attacks like grenades until this happens. Just keep the item out and wait for them to coat your body and harm you like this image.
4. If successful, the nest will be removed from your inventory and replaced with The Pain Hornets' Nest. You should be able to view it in your FOOD menu. Remember to eat it like we have to eat all foods to get them logged in the Collection Menu. This is highly missable.
Other The Pain Boss Fight Tips
There are some items in the water, mostly bullets I think. You can shoot fish underwater to regain stamina if needed.
Going in the water helps remove the scent he throws on you and keep the bees/hornets off. If you get hit by bullet bees (the red lines) then you have to CURE it.
Sometimes Stun Grenades help to knock the bees off him so you can then quickly shoot him. Sometimes his bees will carry a grenade over to drop on you, you can shoot it a couple times to make them drop it, or run away. They also might pick up a grenade that you throw in order to return it to you.
I find it most effective to just alternate swimming between both islands to get him little by little. Be sure to swim deep and come up behind each island so he's less likely to spot you quickly. Note that this game has a button to specifically surface to the top of the water quickly. You need to be quick to climb up and attack him. His bees will also sometimes hover over you to help show him where you are.
During the sections when he taunts you with multiple versions of himself to guess which is him, look at the color of his body. The lighter color tone ones are false. Shoot the darker colored one.
Post-Boss Fight
After the boss fight, DO NOT LEAVE YET! You have more to do.
  • Camo (Hornet Stripe) – Awarded for defeating The Pain by depleting his stamina. IMPORTANT! After the battle it’s on the platform where he was, take the path to the right (west) of the northern exit (DO NOT EXIT YET), go up that ledge path, and jump/roll with Triangle / Y button across onto where The Pain was during the fight in order to get it. Here's a view looking south from the northern exit:
  • Ga-Ko #17 – After the boss fight, take the same path up to the right of the exit as when you were going for the camo. Near the end of the path before going south back into the cave, turn right and look up. There’s a hole in the ceiling with this duck sitting in it, where sunlight comes through.
After the fight, if you return south to the cave opening back where you entered the fight area, where the cutscene began, there's a Life Med on the ground to the side of the opening (it was still there on Hard difficulty). There's also a lot of fish in case you missed one or need food. Chucking a Stun Grenade is a funny way to get a lot of fish at once.
Also, if you go up that side path described above for grabbing The Pain's Hornet Stripe camo, instead of rolling onto his island, just keep going around the wall and there will be a drop-down path that drops you where the Snow Camo was. If for some reason you wanna go back there.
Once you're done with the caves, proceed through the north opening on the far north side of the lake you fought The Pain in.
Chyornaya Peschera Cave Entrance
WARNING: There's a drop-down point of no return right at the beginning here. Be sure you're done with the previous cave stuff.
  • Russian False Mango – Work your way through the cave, after the short cutscene, in a slight open clearing, these large fruits will be on the ground and easily obtained (you still have to shoot or knife them). You likely already obtained this though previously. They are also on a tree overhanging the crevice way above. They also provide D Med's for the CURE menu, so stock up
Along the path after, there's an open "cubby" kind of area to the right. You can climb up on to it. I'm not sure why it's there but I always like to imagine they originally intended guards to patrol here and you'd hide in the spot for one to pass. Just interesting.
  • Kerotan #18 – Continue on and you will eventually come to the second open area with a small cave opening on the left, equip the Thermal Goggles, go in here and beware of the claymores, turn around and look up to find it.
    For some fun, you can instead chuck a Stun Grenade in here before entering (remember to turn away so it doesn't blind you). All the bats will fall and the claymores will go off. It’s pretty silly. I found this to be a lot less funny or satisfying in the Delta version. It was way more funny in the older version.
  • Ga-Ko #18 – Proceed forward near the end of this area until you come to a path that leads down and where can fall over the edges on either side. You will see a green Russian Glowcap Mushroom here at the top of this path. That's basically where you need to be. Look directly forward and up to see this in the crack at the top where the sunlight is coming from, can be hard to see at first. It’s at the very end of the crack (north end).
Don't fall in the holes as you leave this area. You'll have to redo it all.
Ponizovje South
Watch out for flying guards here. They were based on a real concept from the 1950's like the Hiller VZ-1 Pawnee[en.wikipedia.org].
Note that items in water may be easier to see with Thermal Goggles on.
Tranquilizing these flying platform guards apparently doesn't count as a kill even though their platform falls and blows up. I wouldn't do it anyways just in case, and the platforms exploding sets off a CAUTION as well.
Accidentally killing guards in general doesn't count as a human kill according to varying sources, such as them falling off of their hover platforms, the motorcyles, into water and into electric fences.
You can additionally get through this area with the Croc Cap. I tested this out in Hard difficulty with the Crocodile Cap (One-eyed) and Crocodile Suit. I just tried not to stand up for air anywhere their lights were, but swam underwater directly through their lights and was not spotted.
Thanks to iSpeed and EbolaEx in the comments for helping refine this.
  • Kerotan #19 – As soon as you enter the area go forward a little, you should clearly see this just ahead on the rocks to your left.
  • Fish B (Maroon Shark) – Swimming around in front of you as soon as you enter the area, kind of the medium-sized fish here. You also may have previously gotten this in the area where you fought The Pain, and I believe it shows up elsewhere previously as well.
  • Fish A (Bigeye Trevally) – A smaller fish swimming around in front of you as soon as you enter the area.
  • Ga-Ko #19 – Proceed further down the river, just when you come out of the Mangrove trees and it opens up again, you can find this among some fallen branches on the left above the water, just before the path splits. It’s fully camouflaged as usual so it can be a bit hard to see.
There are some Chaff Grenades in the water near that Ga-Ko. Take the somewhat hidden left exit at the end of the area first, so we can get some items in a missable side area.
Ponizovje West
This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry.
Right as you enter, it's possible for guards to spot you from the dock on harder difficulties, even in your Croc Cap and Suit. Be careful.
Note that items in water may be easier to see with Thermal Goggles on.
  • Kerotan #20 – In the middle, facing the building, to the left of the shorter pier, underwater behind some bars.
  • Cat-Like Behavior Secret Reel #5 – There are just two guards in this area (just before the Ponizovje Warehouse: Exterior), and the one on the right, closest to the building door, is the one with the Secret Reel. You're almost certainly going to have to take out the other guard, and then you need to get this guard on that dock to turn around. You won't be able to face him on the edge like that. Throw an item to attract his attention away from the dock, that way you can stick him up and get in front to make him give up items to you.
  • Cobalt Blue Tarantula – Crawling on the ground just northwest of where the Kerotan was. You can also get this in Ponizovje Warehouse Docks, which is next.
  • Ga-Ko #20 – On top of a wall next to the building with the SVD, on the corner. Above a little white socket that hangs off the side. The wall to the right of a yellow door.
  • Weapon (SVD) – In the weapon storage building in the back. You'll also absolutely want this for an upcoming achievement attempt.
In the bottom of the water in the southern area is an M1911A1 suppressor. There's also items in the boats, and crawling under the small overhang next to the short set of stairs on the west side. There's an Mk22 suppressor in the northwest corner past where the Tarantula was, behind the boxes in the corner.
Now backtrack to the previous area and take a left to use the other exit this time and proceed with the story.
Ponizovje Warehouse Docks
If you want an achievement, make a save immediately after the cutscene ends and you are given control of Snake. Quickly take out the SVD that you just collected and shoot The End in the head to kill him early. You have to be quick and precise. As soon as you shoot once, evveryone will be alerted, and if you didn't kill him, he'll quickly get out of there. You might have to retry this a few times, but I found this to be so much easier on the Delta version of the game. Remember to RELOAD YOUR SAVE AFTERWARD! You don't want him to actually be dead later on, for collectibles.
Note that items in water may be easier to see with Thermal Goggles on.
  • Kerotan #21 – Upon entering the area go west to your far left, it’s on top of a red floodgate and fairly obvious.
  • Ga-Ko #21 – From the same place, to the right of the Kerotan, looking north a bit, next to the barbed wire to the right of that same floodgate. It has full camo and blends in with the rocks.
  • Cobalt Blue Tarantula – If you didn't get this previously, check on the wall near the big red door that The End went through after the cutscene.
There's an M1911A1 suppressor underwater near the right side dock guard (direction based upon when you first enter) and some bullets. There's also M37 bullets farther right, and SVD bullets near the Kerotan underwater.
Ponizovje Warehouse
This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry. There's some CURE items immediately left after entering the big room via the doorway, behind the crate and next to the railing. There's also items down on the 1st floor.
Also remember that walking in water leaves wet footprints behind for a little bit. Careful not to trail them right to yourself.
There's some more stuff on the 2nd floor landing, then roll/hang over that railing to drop on top of 1st floor crates for a Mk22 suppressor. It's those crates kind of in the middle that a guard usually patrols around in circles.
I thought the Fire Support was like mortar strikes or aerial fire.How that works inside the warehouse? I have no clue. I have never tried every variation of these, so I guess I will just have to try this one specifically.
  • Face Paint (Desert) – On the bottom left, southwestern side of the bottom floor, behind a crate near the big red doors in the back. The inside of the same doors they wheeled The End through and then closed.
  • Kerotan #22 – Turn around and look up at the ceiling from this south part of the 1st floor. Look way up to the top stone beams stone beams way up top, to the right (east). You can also barely see it from the right angle of the top floor, but it's easiest from down below.
  • Instant Noodles (Food) – Go up one floor and enter the door on the left into a supply room. Eat from FOOD menu.
  • The Quick Version Secret Reel #6 – The guard at the very top of the stairs. He will see you if you approach from below at the wrong time. Do it as he is facing the exit door at the top. Probably also best to have taken out the other guards first.
  • Ga-Ko #22 – Go to the top floor, proceed until you see the red door to the next area in front of you. When facing the next area door, turn around and the duck will be on a big silver colored duct that goes along the right side of the wall, on the floor height of where you stand.
Your objective is out the open big red doors at the end of the hall on the top floor.
Graniny Gorki South
Watch out for traps in this area. The Thermal Goggles may help with some of this. Highly recommend a manual save first just in case you instant die in a falling trap. If you get yourself caught in a snare and hanging from a tree, you can get a funny CODEC call.
  • Mushroom D (Fly Agaric) – From where you start, drop down the slight ledge, and go straight ahead past two trees to find a few of these at the base of a tree right in the middle of the area. This has a chance to poison you when eaten. This should give you an idea Snake's positioning to find it:
  • Weapon (Book) – Left (west) of where you found Mushroom D, over a fallen log and right before you trip a wire trap. Also found in some other locations. There's another one far left from the northern exit, past the hanging dead body stuck to a trap. Might have already gotten one of these back in Bolshaya Past Base. This should give you an idea Snake's positioning to find it:
    If you didn't get a Magpie before, stand still. One is usually on top of that fallen log.
  • European Rabbit – You honestly probably already got one of these long ago, but I usually find one going the opposite direction you went for the book. Just to the right (east) of the Mushroom D, hopping In the grass kind of in the middle of the area. There's also one near that same far left of the northern exit described for the alternate book location above. Rabbits will also give you Serum. This should give you an idea Snake's positioning to find it:
  • Ga-Ko #23 – Back to the tree where you found the Mushroom D (Fly Agaric) in the middle of the area, if you are facing north, then slightly to your right (northeast), there is a tree that is not as tallas all of the others, with kind of a flat top and branches sticking out at the top that curve up. It’s on the top of this tree. Go east and up at least one ledge next to a fallen log, turn west and look at the top of this tree to see it in its camo. Here's a map with Snake's position to see it:
  • Kerotan #23 – When you hop up the small north ledge to leave this area, turn around, and look up to your right (southwest) on a tree branch above you. If you got caught in the snare trap here, it's right next to you. Here's a map with Snake's position to see it:
You may find a Japanese Squirrel climbing on trees here if you missed it earlier (I've seen one on a tree between Mushroom D and the Book locations described above) and some other birds, but ideally you've already gotten them.
There's also some Russian False Mango fruit (green) hanging in some of the trees. They also provide D Med's if you need them.
I've also seen a small poisnous dart frog hopping around roughly the center of the area on the ground.
  • Bird C (Red Avadavat) – In the grass ahead right as you enter this area, it’s very small (like as small as the frogs), so use your Thermal Goggles to see it. It may be slightly to the right side of the grass patch.
  • Ga-Ko #24 – On top of the big metal doors in the center of the outer wall. You can essentially see it from near where you start, where you looked for the Bird C.
If you go right (east) you can find a Mk22 suppressor on top of a snake at the dead end next to the electric fence. Watch out to not get spotted.
  • Kerotan #24 – Crawl under the left side of the fence, move forward a bit and look to your left to find it in between two elevated trees.
North of the Kerotan, in the back dead end area behind the tree should be an M1911A1 suppressor.
  • The Joy Secret Reel #7 – The patrolling guards don't carry the reel here. In fact, the guard isn't here yet. Instead, knock out the dog and the two patrolling guards (also remember that dogs don't stay tranquilized as long as the guards do) just in case. Then, head to the far east side of the area around a corner to find a door to the inner walls near some stacked crates. Press Snake up against the door and knock on the door with R2 / RT (the "Make Noise" action). Then quickly hide behind the crates and wait. The guard will acknowledge it and eventually come out. He'll walk forward and stop for a bit. Sneak up behind him and get the film reel from him. For me, it was on his front waist.
There is a crawlspace way inside on the western side near the Kerotan, hidden in the grass. However, we're gonna go through the door that the Secret Reel guard opened.
Graniny Gorki Exterior: Inside Walls
  • Kerotan #25 – Head south and loop back north around this small building next to you, don't go past that small buildings boarded up door. Watch out cause a guard is usually that direction and there are other guards over near the trucks and maybe the front door to the larger building as well. Turn to face east towards the smaller building you just walked around, look in the window with bars over it and see the Kerotan. Careful since the breaking glass might alert a guard.
  • Weapon (XM16E1) – In a storage building north of the above Kerotan. The far right side of the area.
Head weast to the side of the area with trucks. Watch out for guards. I find it easiest to hug closer to the southern wall. There's some bullets under the southern of the two trucks.
  • Ga-Ko #25 – Behind those trucks, in the southwest corner of this inner area, there's a patch of grass in the corner to hide in. Roughly there, turn and face northeast, and see a lightpost with two lights on it north of the trucks. There's probably a guard between you and it and another guard past it. The Ga-Ko in its camo is on top of this lightpost.
Now follow along along the left (west) side of the giant lab building and go all the way to the back past the grass, and turn to the right (east) to find a dead end with some items. There's an overlook up top on the 2nd floor of the building that you can access later if you want (and even drop down from). I always felt like the original game had a guard come out there on that overlook up top every now and then, but I'm not so sure anymore.
Head back south a bit in the grass, and about 3/4 of the way from the front of the building is a crawl space in the grass in this western side of the giant lab building. Crawl into it to enter the lab. Trust me, it's nicer than the front door.
  • Face Paint (Oyama) – As soon as you enter, first go left (north) to find this at a dead end in the vents, and then go the other direction through the vents.
You should exit the vents into a small outside yard with a door across from you. Be careful not to get spotted here in this courtyard. Some of them can see you through the windows. There's more tips after the Ga-Ko here.
  • Ga-Ko #26 – Coming out of the vent into the courtyard, keep crawling so others are less likely to see you through the windows. Move to the right from the vent (south). Look north at the windows. It’s on top of the middle window on the right (the ground floor windows). It blends in with the poison ivy on the wall with its camo on. Shooting almost certainly might draw attention of a guard inside that wall. There's no simple way for him to get out to the courtyard though, and he may get over it if he didn't spot you directly.
Now, for this area of the game, for the most part you're going to want to take off any face paint and put on your Scientist outfit (maybe don the nerd glasses so you can press X / A button to act like Otacon from the other games). Don't disturb any guards, but they should leave you alone with no face paint and a scientist outfit on.
Don't let any other scientists get a look at you almost at all. It won't take much for them to spot you're not one of them and begin an alert. Also don't bother trying to hold-up a scientist, it doesn't seem like it'll work. A cardboard box works great to get past scientists, but it won't work on guards, so be careful.
You'll have to temporarily change out of the scientist outfit to shoot anything. If you do, be sure of your surroundings, or take out anybody nearby first, and do it quickly and then put the scientist outfit back on. This is a time when the new Delta quick switching between camo's is really nice to have. You hold the Up Directional button, use the right analog stick, and press X / A button on your choice to quick switch, after you've set it up once from the camo menu. This quick switch camo menu I think is a collection of your latest or most-used camo combinations.
You can set off alarms yourself in this building if you want. They are red on the various walls. Stand in front of one and hit the action button. Just be sure you saved or are interested in a fight. In general though, I don't do this.
  • Kerotan #26 – Now go through that previously mentioned door (exiting the center yard and entering the building), to the left (north) are some stairs, but look to the right (south) down the hall, you will see this on top of some lockers. Careful cause there is a guard who's patrol path ends over here.
There are some M1911A1 bullets in the 3rd locker from the left. There's also a library room opposite the lockers with a scientist in there. It's tight quarters and he's likely to start an alert, so for the most part the items there aren't worth it. Aside from some easter egg magazines on the tables, however you can see those elsewhere as well on other tables in this building, and they aren't as interesting as the original PS2 release.
Take those stairs at the north end of the hall and go downstairs from here. Forget the rest for now. You aren't missing anything.
  • Ga-Ko #27 – Enter the first room on your right (the office), it’s on top of the bookcase. There are some other items in the office as well and you can also see some of those easter egg magazines on top of the desk here, as well as some foreshadowing and an easter egg picture on the wall.
  • Kerotan #27 – In the last prison cell on the right. You should be able to punch it if you want.
There's also a crawlspace ducting under the beds of the cells. I should allow you to get into the locked cell. It also leads to a dead end view of the office and a dead end view of another area. On some difficulties, there's a LF Med under the 2nd cell bed.
Go back up the stairs back to 1F and then again up the stairs to 2F.
Graniny Gorki Lab 2F
You should have continued going up the stairs from B1 East through 1F and you should be on the 2nd floor now after re-entering this area.
Be careful here of guards, including one patrolling up here and one down below the railing possibly spotting you from the 1st floor.
  • Camo (Fly) – Go around the corner then forwards in to the 2nd door on the right at the end to enter the bathroom. It’s in the 3rd cubicle, you need to punch the door down to get in. To can punch and kick it with the scientist outfit on. Watch out or the door will fall on you. It's pretty funny though.
There's nothing else in the bathroom.
Directly across from the bathroom is a room with lockers. The last 2 (first 2 from the left) have various bullets.
The door here leads out to that balcony overlook we saw before entering the building. There's nothing out there and we aren't leaving yet, so ignore it.
Head back, the other room (the first one you skipped) is a library with an Mk22 suppressor. Sometimes the guard patrols in here.
Then head west and south around the railing, and around a corner in the southern part of this 2nd floor is a storage room with some food.
Then all the way to the dead end at the end of the hall leads outside overlooking that central courtyard. You can find a book here. Pretty sure in the original, this was a loading screen since the courtyard was a separated area. This is also a GREAT place to spot the Ga-Ko on top of the window below.
Go back to the main area inside and drop down over the railing to the 1st floor (careful about being spotted doing this). I prefer to just roll over the railing when all guards are looking away. It's a shortcut to the other side of the building and there are different stairs from the previous ones you've been on. Go down those stairs.
Graniny Gorki Lab B1 West
Watch out here. Guards will spot you if you don't havve the scientist outfit and glasses on, or if you bump in to them, and scientists will spot you as a fake.
  • Weapon (Cigarette Gas Spray) – After entering the area go right, this is in the small office here. Watch out for patrols, but the guard doesn't care if you're a scientist in here.
  • Kerotan #28 – In the room opposite the above mentioned office. Near some lockers on a small piece of furniture. This one can be punched if you want. Remember that other scientists can tell you are not a scientist. Do this when the scientist is looking away, or knock him out. The noise still might alert him anyway.
  • Weapon (Knock-out Handkerchief) – In the same room, inside the left side locker.
  • Ga-Ko #28 – Upon entering the next room, it will be right in front of you as you enter, on a desk behind a red chair in the back of the room.
There's an XM16E1 suppressor on the floor in front of the Ga-Ko as well. There's also something in the front-right cube space.
Remember you can just run past the scientists in a cardboard box (but NOT guards). Should help with getting in and out of the next room for the story bit. You can even push against a door and have it open for your box.
Proceed to the back and turn left through two doors for a major story part with some fun easter eggs in the background and told directly to you, along with some story hint hint HINT's regarding boots. ha ha. Let's see if you recall this later on in the story. After that is over and you regain control, you can wait a bit quietly and listen for some more hint hint HINT's about someones deepest desire, and then knock on the door you just left for a few laughs, and then exit all the way to Graniny Gorki South for a boss fight.
A More Detailed Exit to Graniny Gorki South
If you want a more detailed exit from that major story part, I'd use the box through the scientists rooms (don't bump them) until almost to the door entering that hallway/office with the guard(s), and remove the box to just have the scientist outfit and glasses near the guards. Proceed through the hallway (don't bump them), and go upstairs to 1F.
Don't bump any guards. Go right at top of the stairs, and through the door on the far side of the room, then left and straight past the guard to the front of the building and out the little door to the left.
Outside the giant lab building now (make a manual save just in case), and just beeline it straight south to the wall, then turn right and run straight west to the southwestern corner with a patch of grass and a crawlspace in it. Go through that. No seriously, if you are quick and just run like this, you should safely make it out of Graniny Gorki Exterior: Inside Walls with little effort. If you waste no time, I'm pretty sure this works on all difficulties. Otherwise equip some camo and do it slower.
Through the crawlspace you should be back in Graniny Gorki Exterior: Outside Walls. If you look right at the dead end past the tree, the M1911A1 Supressor might be there to pick up another one again. Go left (south) of the crawlspace and straight to the hole in the fence you originally came in through. Watch out for a guard heading towards you on the way, and generally be cautious of the guards and dog as you head out of the area to the south.
Hope you're ready for a Boss Fight!
Graniny Gorki South (2nd Time)
You already got all the collectibles here aside from a Boss Fight one.
  • Camo (Spider) – Awarded by defeating The Fear by depleting his stamina. Use the Thermal Goggles to help you during the fight. Watch out for traps. I personally prefer to just stay mostly where I started and follow him with the camera, and waste no time shooting him every time he stops somewhere. Of course this is harder on some difficulties, but if you're efficient, you can essentially stop him from doing much.
    After the fight, the camo should be straight ahead, slightly to your right, on the ground.
Optional. There's another chance to catch a Tsuchinoko here if you didn't back in Bolshaya Past South. Place your mousetraps around the entrance to Ponizovje Warehouse (just before entering the warehouse where you get black bars at the top and bottom of screen). Enter the warehouse and go back and forth to check if you have captured one in any of the traps. If you catch something else (snakes, etc) crawl over your mousetraps to recollect them and place your traps again until you get one, it may take several tries. If you didn’t collect the mousetraps earlier, you can find one inside Ponizovje Warehouse in the little storage room halfway down the stairs.
Remember that you’ll need to eat it for food collection menu progress, so you should make a manual save, eat it to get it logged in the Collections menu, then reload save and ensure you keep it with you ALIVE until the end of the game, including re-acquiring it after the waterfall Eva scene.
Now BEFORE you proceed with the story objective, ignore that and you need to backtrack all the way through Ponizovje Warehouse (the patrols will slightly differ this time), backtrack through Ponizovje Warehouse Docks, and all the way back to Ponizovje South. Go back through the through the Mangrove trees to where the you began Ponizovje South (pretty sure no guards flying overhead this time) just outside Chyornaya Peschera Cave Entrance where you had left after fighting The Pain. Also remember that lying prone and swimming even in shallow water is faster than walking in water.
Re-treading these areas is a good excuse to continue stocking up on things if you're able to.
Ponizovje South (2nd Time)
You should have backtracked all the way here after defeating The Fear.
  • Face Paint (Water) – A camo will appear in the water at the original beginning of this area, at the entrance to the cave you left where you had fought The Pain. You can only get it at this point in the story, so grab it before you proceed.
If you want some fun, in this area, some spots have a lot of animals in the water in a small area. Chuck a Stun Grenade. Watch them fly.
Now proceed back to Ponizovje Warehouse and go through the previously locked red door requiring the keycard that Granin gave you to proceed with the story.
Svyatogornyj South
  • Kerotan #29 – After entering go fowards, turn around and look up to see this above the doorway.
  • Ga-Ko #29 – Go towards the climbable tree not much farther ahead. Look ahead at the rocky area between this tree and the nearest one to its left, this duck is obscured by a small branch on this rocky area. It has camo on and blends in with the rocks, hard to see. Here's a couple images of it, including the usual map of both this and the Kerotan's locations. The map shows where Snake is looking at the Ga-Ko:
  • Mushroom F (Spatsa) – At the base of various trees in the area. Thermal Goggles can help. They are just one basic larger mushroom. They also give the Knockout Handkerchief. Eating the Spatsa (as you should for collectibles) will make Snake very sleepy. It's funny. I usually find one at the base of a tree on the top-most landing which has two smaller trees surrounding it, in all the grass around it.
  • Mushroom G (Baikal Scaly Tooth) – At the base of various trees in the area. Also gives Antidote.
  • R. Vegetable (Vine Melon) – Proceed towards the next slope upwards to the third and top landing. BEFORE you go up the slope, look directly overhead and you will see a vine strung across trees above you with a few of these hanging off. They are thin, long, and green. Use the Thermal Goggles if you are struggling to see them.
In this area, you can also find a Poison Dart Frog and a book sort of in the middle in the grass. A rabbit. Also some other various mushrooms and snakes you've seen previously. Also some CURE items can be found here like a Splint plant (purple flowers) back towards the entrance facing the entrance at the corner edge of the first raised landing before you drop down, Disinfect plants (yellow flowers) on the slope heading up, at the top of the slope to the left next to the wall is another Splint plant and a C Med plant (both purple flowers).
Svyatogornyj West
Watch out for some pitfall hole traps in this area along with guards. The pitfall hole traps are usually covered by bright green foliage and are instant death. Highly recommend you save before proceeding.
  • Mushroom B (Ural Luminescent Mushroom) – Take the left path (northwest) after entering the area and you will come across some fallen logs laying on each other, tree stumps, and a climbable tree to your right (north). It’s at the base of a few trees here. Use your Thermal Goggles as it’s very small and hard to spot. They are basically a lot of very flat-looking round discs, darker brown. Likely to give you food poisoning when eaten.
  • Kerotan #30 – In the same area, on a western ledge just to the right of the previously mentioned fallen logs, west of the climbable tree. Watch out for the pitfall trap to the right of the Kerotan.
  • Ga-Ko #30 – Go back southeast to where you started this area, and take the right path this time heading northeast. You will walk underneath 2 large logs above you, and go through a patch of grass underneath the 2nd log overhead. Immediately after the patch of grass ends beyond that 2nd log overhead, on the left (northwest) will be 3 destroyed tree stumps. On the leftmost broken stump to the west, closest to the raised wall, and somewhat behind two thinner, smaller trees (the one that looks more brown) is the Ga-Ko. It's facing away from you into the stump, so all you can see is mostly the camo on it. Watch out for the pitfall trap that’s to the right of it against the wall to your right. It's easy to fall into on your way north from here.
Unimportant note: remember that 2nd large log overhead on the way to Ga-Ko? Just before you went underneath it, where the grass first started and you had a tall tree stump to your left (facing north), look up northwest and there's a Hornets' Nest hanging from that log (remember those also give Ointment since honey is helpful for burns), and directly underneath the Hornets' Nest there's a hole in the base of the wall that you can crawl through. It's a neat little path from the upper to the lower area. There's no items or anything. I just find it interesting.
I don't think there's much else to this area. It's possible to find Baikal Scaly Tooth mushroom at the base of some trees, and it gives Antidote. There's also other Hornets' Nests. Both of these are found kind of in the center of the southern part, where a guard patrols. Just north of the climbable tree and Kerotan described earlier. Also found at least one Ural Luminescent Mushroom (can poison you) around here.
There should be some Magpie's on the ground in the mud of the connecting path between the southern and northern parts of this area.
In the northern part of this area there are more guards. If you want XM16E1 ammo, it's to the northwest corner, turn left right as you get here and head over multiple sets of fallen logs. BE VERY CAREFUL of a pitfall hole trap right in front of it though.
On your way towards our non-objective exit, there's at least one tripwire trap in the area to watch out for.
Make sure to take the rightmost exit in the northeast out of this area first, into Svyatogornyj East. Don't follow the objective marker yet.
Svyatogornyj East
  • Metal Gear S... Secret Reel #8 – The guard with this is patrolling inside the large cabin in the northeast corner of the area. From the entrance to the area, hug the southern wall as far as you can go east (there's a Hornets' Nest along the way if you want it), and then it turns and hug the eastern wall to get to the northeast, behind some crates, near a turret, and some explosive barrels. This side of the cabin has a window and some stairs with a rear door.
    The guard patrols slow, but eventually he'll be near the window. Lean up against the wall outside and knock on it (R2 / RT to "Make Noise"). He might also have heard your footsteps. Then go hide behind the barrels or in the grass next to them, closer to the door he'll come out of so you're well-positioned to come up behind him. He's incredibly slow and has to go through an inner door before the outer door, so wait for him to come out the back door and down the steps. Try to sneak up (remember L1 / LB) and hold him up before he gets too close to the wall (since sometimes the hold-up mechanism won't work if too close to a wall).
    Mine had it hanging on his left leg. If you stick him up again, or move his body, you're also likely to get an XM16E1 suppressor. If done right, the other guards shouldn't be an issue for this, though that might differ on other difficulties.
  • Weapon (M63) – In the cabin inside the door the Secret Reel guard came out of, in the back right (northeast) room, behind some crates. There's also a trap door there, so you could enter and/or exit this back room underneath the cabin. That Secret Reel guard typically patrols this room.
  • Kerotan #31 – Inside the large cabin, the Kerotan is on a shelf in a western room with beds, easy to spot, even through a window. In the older versions of the game, it was super easy to shoot this with the SVD through the southwest corner window of the cabin while positioned far to the south. It was far enough away from the guards that they'd not even notice. That's not the case anymore, as it'll start a CAUTION. Though you could save this for last on your way out, shoot it through the window, and then try to exit before backup comes. I'd just shoot it from inside the building and/or with all the guards knocked out.
  • Ga-Ko #31 – From where the Kerotan is sitting in the southwest corner of the cabin, look directly west of it. There's a rock formation. This is the one that the resource shack is hiding behind. It's at the top of this. Alternatively, the deck that the guards patrol around on the southwest-side of the cabin has some short steps leading down, facing west. Walk down these steps and continue walking directly west until you hit the first tree. Turn north and look up slightly left (slightly northwest). It's facing away in its camo.
One fun way to get inside the cabin is to crawl underneath to roughly the center-rear (the northernmost middle), and look for a door in the floor of it above you. Use the action button and you'll climb inside the cabin, hidden behind some crates. Underneath the cabin are some broken planks you can see through and even shoot a guard through. The door in the floor is northwest of this hole underneath. This is a great way to get to the M63.
There's a western forested sloped path immediately to your left upon entering that I don't think ever has guards. If you take this all the way up, there's a climbable tree to the right, then a slope path down to the cabin, and then a northwest path at the northernmost end that loops back around around with a ledge to face southeast at the giant cabin and drops out at a storage shack. There's a Hornets' Nest in the forest back near the start of the slope, and I don't think anything else.
There's a Mk22 suppressor near the Kerotan in the same room, and under the bunk beds that room also has an XM16E1 suppressor and TNT, along with some other items and various ammo throughout the entire cabin.
Behind the cabin is a climbable tree to get on the roof if you want, though there's nothing up there. There's also a resource shack somewhat hidden in a corner to the left (northwest) of the cabin with FOOD, especially Calorie Mate's.
Now we can continue the story objective. Head back the way you came in to Svyatogornyj West, then directly north to the next area Sokrovenno South to continue. Be ready for another Boss Fight.
Sokrovenno / Boss Fight
In this area (it's three areas: South, North, and West) you will begin the fight with The End in the South and there are some things to note. You need to:
  • capture his parrot
  • hold him up multiple times to get the Moss camo
  • defeat him by depleting his stamina to get the Mosin-Nagant rifle (you will be placed in Sokrovenno North automatically for that when the fight and cutscene are over)
MAKE A MANUAL SAVE here immediately upon regaining control after the cutscene and CODEC call with EVA, just in case.
We will save collectibles for AFTER the fight in other guide sections named more specifically after those areas.
  • Bird A (Parrot) – This is The End's bird that you saw in the cutscene. This green bird will be on a tree stump right in front of Snake when the fight starts (right after the cutscene), make sure to collect it before beginning the fight with The End. You'll have no other opportunity for this. Shoot the bird before you even move at all after the cutscene and CODEC. It's directly in front to your left (northwest).
  • Camo (Moss) – Awarded for sneaking up on The End and holding him up 3 times. The camo will appear in any of the Sokrovenno areas next to him depending where you hold him up. See farther below for starting point tips.
Miscellaneous Tips
Look for his scope flashing a reflection of light, it gives away his position.
When you are getting close, you can usually hear him making noise of varying kind. Remember to sneak using L1 / LB until close enough to stick him up with a gun.
When you hold him up, you have to cross his head with your gun aimed at it, and he will always resist and say “I don’t think so” twice. On the 3rd time, he should grumble and drop the camo next to him. Pick up his dropped camo immediately. Don't be surprised if he runs away. He gets very impatient very quickly, so if you take too long to do all of this, he may get away.
If you are unable to get him to do anything due to the angle (depending on where you're both positioned near a ledge, aiming at his head may not trigger properly), then you'll likely need to use a lethal gun and shoot the ground near him (but DON'T HURT HIM). He'll then be more likely to give it up. If you shoot or harm him at all before obtaining his camo, he'll just run away. Again, remember not to take too long either.
It's even easier to sneak up on him when it rains, ashe'll fall asleep, and you can ehar it and see ZZZ’s above his head.
If he shoots you, you need to remove the tranquilizer dart before it knocks you out. In the CURE menu with a knife.
It's also possible to spot his footprints and follow the trail, though I found these a bit harder to see in this Delta version of the game. My usual strategy was always to go straight to him at the beginning, and then follow him as closely as possible so I'm almost always coming up behind him. It essentially removes the sniper contest way of fighting him.
When he runs away, if you quickly follow behind him entering new areas, the more likely he is to be found positioned in a new spot very near where you entered, and you can again sneak up behind him (rinse and repeat this to avoid any real sniper battle). If you're efficient, this fight can be over with relatively little frustration. However, if you lose track of him, it'll be difficult to find him again without getting shot.
You can shoot him up to 3 times in a row if you are efficient, and then after that he'll definitely get away. It is possible to shoot him while he's running away as well and even can knock him down again with 3 in a row (he'll immediately trigger a flashbang though and blind you when he falls again), but I find it more important to keep up with him so I don't lose track of him and where he goes. Also if you are late to entering the next area, then he could be positioned anywhere in it, even facing you.
Tips from the Starting Point
It feels like he varies his start point more now in the Delta version than I recall in any of the prior versions. So my past method that worked every time has to be altered slightly. Essentially you need to carefully crawl north and figure out which overlooking ledge he's on. Then you need to carefully enter Sokrovenno North in order to use specific paths back to Sokrovenno South to get onto either of these areas he's likely on.
Here's an example of your starting point (the big red rectangle), and the two likely areas he is starting from (either red circled area), along with arrow paths showing how you'd enter those ledges from Sokrovenno North:
And then here's an example of where in the southern part of Sokrovenno North you'd go to get to those paths back to Sokrovenno South:
If you've successfully maneuvered past him, through Sokrovenno North, and back to Sokrovenno South behind him wherever he is, then I recommend making another manual save in case you mess this up. You can just try again from where you re-entered.
If you were not spotted getting in position behind him, and did not engage him in any way thus far, then he should absolutely still be in his starting position. Remember to use camo, crouch or crawl, and use L1 / LB to sneak up on him until close enough to hold him up. I have in the past successfully held him up from a prone position as well, and then stood up once he's held up. Be VERY CAREFUL as he takes any opportunity to run away and also will get impatient with you. So don't take too long.
Absolutely focus on getting his camo first. That's your first and primary goal here if you have not previously gotten it. If he drops the camo, grab it immediately. THEN chase him and don't let him get too far ahead. As previously noted, if you keep up, you can make this a far simpler fight.
Easter Egg: If You Wanted to Cheat in the Past
In the old versions of the game, an easy (cheating) way to find him was to use the code while on the map screen. You'd go into the menu, to the map, and enter Up (Directional button), Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Square / X, Triangle / Y (essentially the Konami Code). A colored dot would appear for where he is on the map if you are on the same map as he is.
In the Delta version of the game, you get a door locked denied entry noise, and The End will ask you "what are you trying to do?"
Post-Boss Fight
You'll automatically be placed in Sokrovenno North. Assuming you handled him non-lethally, you'll need to grab his Weapon (Mosin-Nagant) after the fight and cutscene.
  • Weapon (Mosin-Nagant) – Awarded for defeating The End by depleting his stamina. Snake will be in this area automatically after the cutscene when the fight is over. Look slightly left before moving, it's down the hill behind the tree. Included the map with Snake's position in Sokrovenno North.
Once all of this has been accomplished. Proceed to the Sokrovenno North section of the guide to handle various Sokrovenno collectibles.
Sokrovenno / Boss Fight: Sniping Points
Here are all of the Sniping Points (circles on the maps) for each of the areas involved in the fight. Note the red circle is a case where he's shot at me and I know his position.
Sokrovenno South Sniping Points Map:
Sokrovenno West Sniping Points Map:
Sokrovenno North
Once you are fully complete with The End boss fight, and have obtained his parrot (bird), camo, and Mosin-Nagant weapon, you'll already be in Sokrovenno North and can continue on for the rest of the collectibles.
  • Ga-Ko #33 – From where the Mosin-Nagant was in the center of the clearing (if you don't recall, see the "Post-Boss Fight" screenshots from the Sokrovenno / Boss Fight section of this guide), look directly east and see a hollow log up above. Go stand right next to this log, then look northeast and slightly up at the rock wall with moss all over it. The Ga-Ko with camo blends in very well facing away from you. It's to the right of the clump of trees between the fallen log and the giant rock wall. These images show you the direction to go from the Mosin-Nagant, and then looking at it from the log.
  • Kerotan #33 – From the Ga-Ko (or Snake's starting position after the The End fight is over), run directly south until you hit a rock wall,then turn and run directly west downhill until you reach the fallen hollow log in the mud. Look southwest at the base of a tree. If you don't see it, then go directly south from the hollow log to hit the rock wall, and follow this wall west. It's not far from the log and is up against the rock wall and near the base of a large tree.
You can find a Markhor animal in the northwest part of this map if you still have not gotten one. There are Splint plants (purple flowers) on the edge of sniping overlook edges all throughout these 3 areas and lots of varying animals and things to find all over.
Go to the northwest-most part of this area (near the Markhor) and enter Sokrovenno West from there.
Sokrovenno West
You should have entered here from Sokrovenno North in the northeast corner of this map. There's another Markhor in the northern part of this map if you want it.
  • Ga-Ko #34 – When you enter from Sokrovenno North, hug the northern wall until you reach the small stream of water. It's in the water, inside the little opening in the wall that the stream is coming out of.
  • Kerotan #34 – Follow that stream south all the way until it ends in a wall. The Kerotan is in the water inside the wall just like the Ga-Ko.
Now hug the southern-most wall where the stream ended and go left (east) into Sokrovenno South, where the fight originally started.
Sokrovenno South
You should be entering here in the west side from Sokrovenno West. Hopefully NOT on the ledge, but on the ground floor.
  • Kerotan #32 – Coming in from the west, hug the wall to your right, and it'll quickly loop around to a concrete platform with a ramp leading up to a weapon storage building on the west side of this area. There's some ammo in the building, but go past the door and around the right side and find this sitting on a rock just behind the building at about Snake's height.
  • Ga-Ko #32 – To the right (east) of the Kerotan on the northernmost middle wall on the map between two exits from this area. You can hop off the concrete ledge from the weapon storage building and head directly east to about the middle of the map, turn and face north, and see the climbable tree hugging the northern rock wall, and it's to the left of that tree on the rocks.
If you are done with all 3 of the Sokrovenno areas, then head to the far back northeast of Sokrovenno North to continue to Krasnogorje Tunnel. It's the area that opened up around the end of the cutscene after the battle with The End. It should also be marked as an objective on your map.
Krasnogorje Tunnel
The infamous ladder. They re-recorded the Snake Eater vocals for the Delta release. It's a reprisal by the original singer Cynthia Harrell. So this ladder part is a tad different than we're used to. Kind of a neat change.
  • Kerotan #35 – Go towards the ladder down the tunnel, turn around to find this on the ground by the 2nd tunnel light on the right. About halfway down the hall.
Be sure you have gotten everything, because the next area has another point of no return. Plus it's a long way to come back down anyway. Enjoy the singing.
  • Ga-Ko #35 – After climbing the long ladder to the top, immediately as you get off the ladder, look up to the left in front of you to see this on a pipe.
Proceed out the door.
  • Snake C (Thai Cobra) – After entering the area, proceed ahead and drop down a small ledge (this is a point of no return), then proceed forwards a little bit more and look for where the wall to your right turns north and opens up to the larger area. Right as you turn this corner to your right, you should see the snake on the ground moving around near the corner of the wall, on the first little slope after the corner. You can also find this inside a small cave in the next area or at the end of the next area.
  • Bird B (Vulture) – From that snake described above, look slightly left, to the northwest. There's usually one perched that you can shoot from here right at the start. Also generally on the left side cliff edge throughout this area. Rarely they might not spawn here, if they don’t go to the next area and you should see some on the cliff edges there instead. Sometimes they'll also show up on dead bodies.
    If you eat a vulture that has been eating a guard body, be sure to give Para-Medic a call.
  • Diehard Secret Reel #9 – It's on the guard sniping from an overlook against the eastern side wall to your right. When you first came in and hugged the wall to your right, after it turns north, it goes over two small hills and then there's a hole in the wall (eastern side of area,and south of the guard on the ledge) you have to crawl through to reach him.
    He may be hard to hold up here depending on his position. I equipped a food item and chucked it out in front of me and to my left from inside the hole. He walked over to investigate and then fell down the south part of the ledge to the ground below.
    After he was done investigating, he walked back near his position and stopped in a useful spot turned away just below the ledge. It was easy to drop down and hold him up then.
  • Emperor Scorpion – They are quite small, so use the Thermal Goggles if needed. These are all over, but I prefer to go to the large rock formation about the middle of the area. There's a hole in its base you can crawl through and I usually find one of these close to the southern entrance of this crawlspace. You can also find them in the next area. If you capture these alive, you can equip their cage as a weapon and chuck them on top of a guard. They'll usually get harmed or poisoned I think.
    There's some ammo and Serum in the crawlspace.
  • Ga-Ko #36 – On top of the large rock formation described above, roughly in the middle of this area, to the west side slightly. Aim at the southern entrance to the crawlspace and then look up on top of the giant rock. It’s on top. You might even spot the Kerotan far in the background from this angle.
  • Kerotan #36 – Proceed through the area sticking to the left cliffside, at the end (before the next area) you will see this on a cliff on top of unreachable rocks just above the exit on the left (west).
Krasnogorje Mountainside
Watch out for those flying guards here again,just like in Ponizovje South. They'll be to the west side just over the cliff, above. They'll move around quite a bit and can spot you easily. They also can sometimes spot dead or sleeping guards, and this might set off a CAUTION.
If you blew up the helicopter in Bolshaya Past Base, then that's one less overhead nuisance to deal with here. Otherwise watch out for the occasional patrolling helicopter.
There's a few crawlspaces and hidey-holes here to help you crawl around and past guard patrol patterns, and to hide from helicopters and flying guards. Don't forget good camo choices.
  • Ga-Ko #37 – Climb the slopes, making your way through the area. When you reach the top of the 2nd slope, after the 1st u-turn, but right before your 2nd u-turn, this will be directly in front of you on the cliff wall, blending in with some greenery and branches.
About halfway through the map, once you hit a wall and the u-turn paths kind of end, there's a ledge with no guards that begins hugging the wall north and goes up higher while making a right turn towards the exit. Going up here helps with seeing the Kerotan and just helps you avoid a few guards. Be careful the flying guard doesn't spot you. It's after you make 3 u-turns from the start on your way up the hill and reach the 4th turn back towards the northeast heading up a small slope and then a large wall to your east. Look behind, and you can step up a few small ledges onto this ledge path.
If you take this path, it dead ends with some Mosin-Nagant ammo for you, and overlooking a few storage buildings and the exit of the area in the east. Get your Kerotan and drop down when it's clear to do so.
Also, before you take that ledge path, at the 4th u-turn, in the middle of the area, there was some M37 ammo in an area you can only reach by dropping down south to it, then you have to drop down again around the 2nd u-turn and go up again.
  • Kerotan #37 – Near the end of the area with the AA guns and 3 small buildings, on top of the highest weapon storage building in the back-right. Especially easy to see if you came up the higher elevation ledge path that ends overlooking these buildings.
  • Weapon (RPG-7) – In the same area as the Kerotan, it’s inside the first building on the right.
The buildings also have some ammo, CURE items, and FOOD.
Krasnogorje Mountaintop
Just an FYI that immediately upon entering the next area, a cutscene begins which has our first hidden first-person view (FPV) cutscene. Highly recommended to have saved BEFORE going into the next area and read about it as well in the next section Krasnogorje Mountaintop: Behind Ruins.
Watch out for regular helicopter patrols overhead here (yes, even if you blew up that helicopter earlier). They're not likely to spot you though unless you're running around like an idiot, and The Boss literally told you NOT to do that, so...
  • Kerotan #38 – As you enter, to your right is an AA gun up a slope next to the first building. Position yourself on the other side of it (eastern side of it), and look the direction the AA gun is pointing, and then look to the left (southeast), and slightly below. It's on an unreachable ledge, kind of tucked in a corner of the mountain.
Crawlspaces to get up the Mountain
There are some crawlspaces you can use to get yourself probably 3/4 of the way to the top if you want. They take you very close to the Ga-Ko.
The building next to the first AA gun has a crawlspace inside. Take this short crawlspace heading north. When it exits, watch out for a possible guard patrolling in the trench, and crawl immediately right (east) and into the next crawlspace. This one is much longer and wraps around northwest.
This 2nd crawlspace brings you far up the hill and to roughly the middle of the map, where you should see another crawlspace directly across the trench from where it exits. There could be a guard patrolling the trench south of you, so be careful. Where this crawlspace exits, to your right (north) is a small storage building you can loot if you want. Head into the next crawlspace across the trench.
This 3rd crawlspace is short and straight across to another trench. Be careful here as sometimes a guard patrolling above outside the trench might see you. There's also a guard that patrols the trench itself (might be the same guard, not sure). When it seems safe, crawl directly right (north) and you should see another crawlspace a little ways up the trench.
This 4th crawlspace is very short and takes you into another storage building with supplies. Crawl back out through the crawlspace to the trench and go left (east). Follow the trench to the dead intersection where you have to turn, and turn left (north), and follow it around and it comes up and out of the trench next to the 2nd highest AA gun near the top of the area.
  • Ga-Ko #38 – Behind the 2nd highest AA gun near the top-middle of the area, look north (opposite the direction the AA gun is pointed), and look above a sheet of metal on a slope, quite hard to see at first. It has white camo and blends in with the white snowy rocks. Looks like a round rock.
Watch out for guards and head east and around the corner to the north. Your objective is in the far northeast. Remember that it immediately begins very long cutscenes and story, and it includes the first hidden first-person view (FPV) cutscene, if you're going for those. Definitely recommend looking at the next section first.
Krasnogorje Mountaintop: Behind Ruins
This is where the first case of a hidden first-person view (FPV) cutscene occurs. Hopefully you saved in the previous area in case something goes wrong.
  • Hidden FPV Cutscene #1 – You can skip the first FIVE (5) cutscenes, but do NOT skip the last one. It should be where Snake is alone overlooking Groznyj Grad, pulls out his Scope, and watches EVA riding away on her motorcycle. DO NOT SKIP any more. During the cutscene, Volgin is beating the steel drum, The Boss will arrive, right after she begins to leave, she will say “I’m going to get the Davy Crockett” and THIS is when you need to hold R1 / RB to get an alternate view of her riding away on her horse. There won't be a button prompt for this on-screen, but do it anyway.
    Not long after, Ocelot compliments EVA's boots and walks away, there's also another fun FPV of EVA mocking him here if you hold the button again. This one's not a hidden one I don't think, but it's still fun.
After meeting EVA and all cutscenes are done, you are overlooking Groznyj Grad.
  • Kerotan #39 – Once the above cutscene ends, before even moving, look forward (north) and slightly to your right, use a sniper rifle to zoom in at the large red radio tower far in front of Snake. It’s just above the numbers 07 on the lower part of the tower. Even though it's far away, I don't think you can confirm this one with the Directional Mic. Use your Scope and see it spinning once you've shot it to confirm it.
  • Ga-Ko #39 – This one is below Snake among some smaller rocks and hard to see. To the left of tower the Kerotan is on, there are three tanks connected to some pipes on the ground. Aim at the middle tank, and then move your aim down until Snake is almost aimed all the way down where the cliff edge below cuts him off. You should be able to see it on the rocks below.
Shooting the Kerotan shouldn't raise any alerts, however if you fire a rocket into the base, you're likely to set off an alert and bring helicopters at Snake.
Turn around and head back inside. Unfortunately, Snake doesn't get to take EVA's path there.
Krasnogorje Mountaintop Ruins
The Instant Noodles EVA gave you are in the first room here at the top. There's also a Cobalt Blue Tarantula on the wall if you missed it previously.
Head downstairs to the next room.
  • Kerotan #40 – On the shelf above the bed, right before the exit. Southwest.
  • Ga-Ko #40 – Opposite the Kerotan, in a hole up in the ceiling, to the left of the exit. Southeast.
There's an Emperor Scorpion on the floor down here if you missed it previously. There's other items in the room, including under the bed.
Now go back to Krasnogorje Mountaintop.
Krasnogorje Mountaintop (2nd Time)
After meeting with EVA at Krasnogorje Mountaintop Ruins and completing that area and the Behind Ruins area as well, you'll return here. Before proceeding like we used to in the pre-Delta days, you have one item you now need. This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry.
I'm not sure if these work when you return and the patrols have changed, but here's the same Secret Radio Frequencies for this area from before. Consult that section of the guide back under the Introduction for more information:
  • The Ultimate Weapon Secret Reel #10 – It's the flamethrower guard far to the west near the ledge about halfway up. He patrols around an AA gun near the ledge, and will also come down into the trench and back up. I recommend getting into the trench and waiting for him to come down into the trench. He walks forward a little and stop. You can hold him up here. If you hold him up near the ledges, you'll likely have a hard time getting in front to aim at his face or crotch.
Once you're sure you're done, enter the red door halfway down the area on the eastern side where the yellow objective marker is on the map. It was locked the previous time you were here. You'll soon be encountering another point of no return, so be careful.
Groznyj Grad Underground Tunnel / Boss Fight
It is very important to handle these BEFORE defeating The Fury as you cannot get back to this area afterward. Once you start the the fight by climbing down a ladder, it's a point of no return, and once the fight is over, it's another point of no return. Definitely recommend another save at the beginning here.
At the bottom of the stairs are some items at the dead end before heading down the hallway. There are some Vampire Bats on the ceiling if you missed them previously, and some CURE items below them, and a bit more ammo around the corner to the right.
Remember to handle the Kerotan BEFORE going down the ladder into the fight arena.
  • Kerotan #41 – After going down the stairs, proceed through the tunnel until you reach the red guard rails BEFORE the boss fight, look directly ahead with a sniper rifle to see this on a red pipe all the way across the whole area. It's above the red door that is way on the other side of the area. Use your SCOPE or SVD to see it. You can also shoot it during the boss fight but it’s easier to do it before. Do this BEFORE defeating The Fury as you cannot get back to this area afterwards.
    If for some reason you need Kerotan DURING the fight. Then run to the middle and northern-most hallway and turn around looking directly south, and look up slightly on top of the overhead pipes.
  • Ga-Ko #41 – While you can from the correct angle see this pipe before the fight, I don't think there's any angle to see the Ga-Ko on the pipe before. Therefore, I'm pretty sure this can only be obtained during The Fury boss fight. As soon as the fight starts, run back to the ladder you climbed down to start the fight (in the southwest of the arena). From the small ladder in the southwest, face north down the first long hallway, then move forward and look left (west) into the first big opening in the concrete wall to see this on the smaller pipe above. Be sure to get this BEFORE defeating The Fury as you cannot get back to this area afterward.
I don't really have a lot of tips for The Fury. It's fairly straightforward of a fight. Keep moving and going the long way and come up behind him and shoot him. Kind of like The End, you can get usually 3 shots in and knock him down, but then probably need to run away.
If you take a long time to fight him, the arena will really start to fill with fire and it will become difficult. If you hide for too long without him seeing you or attacking him, he'll start moving faster and running and flying around. Remember to roll instead of wasting time trying to trigger the climb action on the taller ledges. It's faster for going up the larger steps. It's also generally a bit faster down the halls and helps you get through fire faster or get fire off of you. So get used to rolling. Just don't roll off the southern cliff.
Watch out for the exploding barrels. Some of the concrete gaps between hallways have a few items, like ammo. There's a few Russian Glowcap Mushrooms around as well. Maybe grab these and save them for a later Boss Fight in the game.
  • Camo (Fire) – Awarded for defeating The Fury by depleting his stamina. It will be on the floor right next to you after the cutscene. Just look to Snake's left and down when you regain control. Grab it now as going up the ladder ahead is yet another point of no return.
There's some rats and a few items here before heading up the ladder to Groznyj Grad.
There's some items underneath the small stairs near where you begin. There's also some items under some of the raised containers nearby that a guard is patrolling around. There's also some crates next to one that allow you to get on top of them, if you're bored. Also if you've played The Phantom Pain, no we can't Fulton these, unfortunately.
Head to the western side near the hangar's. Watch out for guards.
  • Kerotan #42 – At the hangars on the western side, this is in the thin gap in the slightly open doors of hangar 67, the middle of the leftmost 3 hangars. Look inside on the end of the barrel of the tank facing you.
  • Ga-Ko #42 – From the Kerotan, turn to look northeast and see a truck in front of the northeastern-most hangar, this is on top of that one, hangar 65.
Now go all the way to the upper-left behind the hangar's on the Kerotan side, the northwest of the area, and through this door.
  • Ga-Ko #43 – Move directly west from door so you are south of the tanks between them, look north and slightly to the right (northeast), this is on top of the 2nd tank on the right side.
There are some items underneath some tanks.
  • Kerotan #43 – Watch out for a dog patrolling the western fence, and head north between the columns of tanks until you pass them all and have a truck to your right, and a guard tower behind a fence (with a red fence door in it) to your left. See the stairs just north of this tower going into the larger building Eva said you need to get into (for the story). The Kerotan is sitting at the top of these stairs behind the fence.
There's another dog a bit more north on the eastern side, usually sleeping, and a guard light to watch out for, along with some other guards. A story-element for later on is currently locked, but interesting to see. There's some ammo in a storage building in the far northeast if you want.
If you press yourself against the northern-most wall here and stand tall, you can walk behind the northern buildings to hide. Not sure why we'd need to, but it's neat.
Exit this area using the other door close to the one you entered back near the southeast of this area, but use this other door slightly north/northeast of where you came in. There's a truck parked in front of it in the southeast.
Now you'll be in Groznyj Grad Northeast, but we're going to skip past it for now and go straight to Groznyj Grad Southeast. From the door you entered in, follow the right wall past the red gate and past the door almost to the end where you will find a crawlspace in the right wall just before that end, go through here. Watch out for an occasionally patrolling guard just past the crawlspace.
Fun With Boxes & Trucks
Another time, when you AREN'T going for all the items, something fun you can do here, and can help you shortcut the game, is head to the northern part of Groznyj Grad Northwest where there's a cargo truck like before. If you crawl inside the back of the cargo truck, your acquired Cardboard Boxes can help you get to other areas faster. Box A will take you inside a storage room of the East Wing, and later in the game, Box B will take you to the Main Wing with the Shagohod.
There's a similar truck in the northern part of Groznyj Grad Northeast as well during your daytime return trip.
  • Kerotan #44 – Climb on top of the only building here, either use the western stairs in front or I recommend ladder on its south (take out the guard patrolling near it first). On the building's roof, stand upright and look at the raised part you can't climb on top of on the building's eastern side. Look to your right to the building's southeast corner. It's on the southeast corner of the building's roof.
  • Ga-Ko #44 – From the Kerotan, stand near the ladder on the south of the building's roof, and look south, in the southern corner of this yard there's an alarm horn pole. The Ga-Ko is on top of this pole.
  • Cardboard Box C – On the ground behind the building (eastern side of map) in the skinny gap between the building and wall. No, you did not miss Box B, it comes later in the story. Sometimes there's a guard back here so watch out.
Now enter this building from it's western entrance door.
Groznyj Grad Jail / Torture Room
This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry.
  • Basashi Secret Reel #12 – When you first enter, there's an office down at the end of the hall to the left (the office is in the middle-north of the building), and this guard is patrolling in circles inside the office.
  • Kerotan #45 – The the office where the Secret Reel guard was, find this underneath a desk on the east of the room.
  • Ga-Ko #45 – Back where you entered, going right instead of left, there's a room on the right (southwest corner of this little building) with a bed and a poster of a woman on the wall. Look south and up (the wall the bed runs against). This on a shelf.
You might find the Camera in the office here. None of the cells have anything except a rat. The room with a bed and poster has some items, especially CURE items.
Exit the building back to Groznyj Grad Southeast and go behind this jail building in the north east corner near where some crates are. There's a hole in the ground next to the north side of the jail building you can crawl into. Here's a look at the hole and where Snake is on the map outside the small Jail building.
Go into this crawlspace, head west a little bit, then turn right and head north at the intersection. Crawl to the next area this way.
You should have entered here via a crawl space from Groznyj Grad Southeast. See the end of that section of the guide for details.
  • Kerotan #46 – This is underground, which is why we entered this area this way. Crawling north from where you entered via a crawlspace from Groznyj Grad Southeast, you'll come to your first intersection where you can look left (west), and down that way is a dead end with this Kerotan behind a grate.
Turn around and head back the way you came to exit the crawlspace in the same place you entered in Groznyj Grad Southeast. There's nothing worth seeing all the way the other direction. Exiting the crawlspace in Groznyj Grad Southeast, go straight north, hug the wall, turn left and head west just a little bit (watch out for guards), and go through the red door to re-enter Groznyj Grad Northeast not underground this time.
  • Ga-Ko #46 – As soon as you enter, you're behind some crates. Look right (northeast) and see a searchlight tower. This is on the corner of the barbed wire fence just ahead, and below the tower. Should be able to get it from where you entered via the door.
Now head northwest towards your objective. There's likely a guard directly north, and then one or two around the vehicles on your way to the objective door. There's some items inside the vehicles you can climb up in to get. Dangerous though and you might be spotted. Be careful.
Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: East Wing
Remember no face paint and the Scientist outfit? Maybe some glasses. That can help here again with the guards.
Just don't let other scientists get a good look at you, there are very suspect of you and it won't take much for them to cause an ALERT. I always find the library one most obnoxious.
There may be Cigarette Spray ammo under a table in the large Scientist room upstairs on the eastern side (from the southern stairs). Otherwise that room isn't worth going into and it's too dangerous with all the scientists in there (to spot you). Going up those southern stairs also doesn't matter due to locked doors. Don't waste your time.
  • Ga-Ko #47 – On the left as soon as you enter, in the flower bed against the same wall as the door you entered from. Behind the tables and chairs that seem like a break area.
Even with the Scientist outfit on, this flower bed the Ga-Ko is in has some CURE items you can punch and kick out of it.
  • Weapon (Scorpion) – On the ground floor, this is in a locked room only officers can enter. When you entered this building, if you go left towards the far stairs, it's the 2nd door on the right. The weapon is inside the room against a wall, in between two shelves. Even though this room is locked to officers only, if you get in with the scientist outfit and no face paint, they don't seem to care that you're in here.
    This is the 1F Western entrance of that room (see the Unlock Door frequencies above). The easiest way to enter is to stand in front of the door (you need to be near doors to unlock them) and call the CODEC (Down Directional button, then R1 / RB to Tune manually) using the correct Unlock Door frequency (see the table above, and for more information see the Secret Radio Frequencies section of the guide under the Introduction). If done correctly, the CODEC will say "The door has been unlocked."
    Other ways to get in the room include following a guard through the door, equipping the Officer camo you obtain from Raikov and the Raikov Mask, or interrogating guards and sometimes they'll give you these frequencies.
There's a mousetrap, CURE items, Mk22 suppressor, book, and various bullets to be found throughout both floors in all the rooms in this area.
  • Kerotan #47 – Take the northern stairs up to get through an unlocked door on to the second floor on the western side (north of where you'll drag Raikov). It's on top of some bookshelves in this 2nd floor northwest room, if you face the north wall.
Raikov
  • Camo (Officer) – Automatically obtained story camo. Obtained by knocking out Raikov and dragging him to a locker on the 2nd floor. His starting point seems to vary when you enter. Mostly he seems to either be crossing the bridge up top into the giant scientist room, or on the 1st floor heading into the library.
Here's some views of Raikov if it helps.
If he's up top, he'll go into the large scientist room, and eventually come out the south door, and head downstairs and straight to the library. After a while in the library, he heads through the bathroom, out the back, and then back towards the library to go up the north stairs through the room the Kerotan is in on the 2nd floor, and back to hang out in the locker area for a bit. It is the BEST time and method to just wait, watch, and loosely follow him in here, then sneak up behind and CQC him and choke him out.
Note that scientists aren't allowed in the locker area. So you'll have to not be seen and sneak up on him to knock him out and drag him to the red striped locker.
If you try to get him anywhere else, you'll have to drag him there (to the 2nd floor lockers) in order to proceed the story, and that is difficult to do without being spotted.
If for some reason you wind up with a CAUTION or ALERT (you should not if you're going for no alerts), Raikov will be found hiding downstairs in the closed bathroom stall.
Here's the red-striped locker he'll be in after the cutscene. Yes, you can open it to find an easter egg.
Other Things and Continuing On
Upstairs, there's some Knockout Handkerchief ammo underneath a table in the middle room just north of the lockers. In the lockers are 2 Russian Rations and an XM16E1 suppressor. 2 of these items are in the western-most lockers, 2nd and 3rd from the south. The 2nd ration is two lockers north of the red striped one you have to put Raikov in.
Once you're sure you're done, put on the Officer camo and Raikov mask and head into the southwest 2nd floor door near the lockers. Note you have the ability to salute now.
Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: West Wing Corridor
While you won't be able to get into the Main Wing yet, you can see the Shagohod through the windows. Take a picture if you like. You've got a camera now. Head down the hall and into the the next area. It's a bridge connecting to the West Wing. Once you enter, DO NOT TO PROCEED YET!
This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry.
As you enter, facing west, you'll see two guards around the only door. These are the guards you need to approach in the Officer outfit and Raikov mask in order to continue the story. YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THAT YET! Approaching them too closely like this will trigger a cutscene.
  • Made in the USA Secret Reel #11 – As you entered, the guard on your left has the Secret Reel. You can't approach them in your Officer outfit with Raikov mask or you'll lose the opportunity to do anything here.
    Instead, get down prone in the corner, swap to a different outfit (they have horrible sight, but maybe try to keep your camo index up still), and tranquilize the one on the right (NOT the Secret Reel one). Don't worry, the left one shouldn't even notice.
    UPDATE: they didn't even notice me on Hard difficulty as I entered with no uniform on. They can't see you across the room, so probably no need to get prone in the corner.
    Now, put the Officer camo and Raikov mask back on and go over there next to the door somewhat behind the other guard. He doesn't even move.
    Here you can swap back to another outfit, hold him up, and get your Secret Reel out of him.
If you also knock out this guard (you'll most likely need to for the other items), then you should get an optional CODEC call about it. I also found out accidentally that if you don't swap back to your Raikov
  • Kerotan #48 – Back where you entered this hallway, look south out the window to find this outside on top of a pole with speakers.
  • Ga-Ko #48 – To the left of the guards, look out of the window to see this just to the right sitting in another window.
You’ll have to leave and re-enter, or wake up the guards, after to proceed with the story in the acquired Officer uniform and Raikov mask you need to wear.
Post-West Wing Corridor / Cutscenes
A hidden first-person view (FPV) cutscene is coming up, later during MANY cutscenes coming up immediately upon approaching the guards. There's an opportunity to save mid-way though.
You can skip 6 cutscenes (one of them has an easter egg CODEC on the top-right of the chalkboard in the background when talking to Skolov), and then it'll prompt if you want to save, and you probably should.
Then you'll be automatically placed in Groznyj Grad Jail Torture Room inside the Jail building. The screen will be mostly black since you're forced in first-person view and Snake has something over his head. You won't be able to skip anything for a while as you have to listen to Volgin murdering Sokolov and then eventually turning to you.
Then cutscenes will begin with an overhead view of Volgin splashing a bucket of water on Snake.
DO NOT SKIP THIS CUTSCENE! This one is just one big long cutscene.
  • Hidden FPV Cutscene #2 – During the Torture Room cutscene, long after the black cover is taken off Snake's head and he can see, after Ocelot's been slapped twice, Volgin leaves, and Ocelot will say “You got lucky this time, Tatyana”, hold R1 / RB from here and as Ocelot is leaving, you will see The Boss do a hand gesture towards him.
Did you notice something about Snake's eyesight in first-person view?
Not long after Ocelot leaves, The Boss shoots Snake and puts an SAA gun in his belt, hold R1 / RB from here again and you'll get the same CODEC easter egg as Sokolov's chalkboard from before.
There's not much left now, but you can skip the rest of the cutscene if you want.
Groznyj Grad Jail / Torture Room (post-Torture)
You should now be placed in a jail cell.
BEFORE you do anything else. Make a new manual save, and exit to the main menu. Then reload that save. (Did you notice something when you saved?)
Have fun! We'll see you here when you get back.
When you get back, you should call everyone on your CODEC for some more fun.
Continuing on
Now you are in a jail cell with Johnny's grandfather guarding you. You will temporarily lose all of your equipment including the Tsuchinoko in your Food Menu. You get everything back later when reaching Tikhogornyj: Behind Waterfall. Though the Tsuchinoko has special instructions when that time comes. This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry.
  • Weapon (Single Action Army) – Automatically obtained story weapon. It will be in your inventory once you are in the prison cell.
  • Weapon (Fork) – Right here in the prison where you start.
Pick up the fork and enter the CURE screen to remove the items. Pick up the one that pops out on the floor. If you don't get rid of the transmitter, you're going to have to deal with annoying GRU soldiers later in Tikhogornyj. Hopefully here you're making some connections to what you saw in the cutscene.
Get Out of Jail
Hidden Cutscene Note: There is a jail cell cutscene triggered by throwing your food back at the guard Johnny SEVERAL times. Throw it through the larger opening in the cell door. You'll have to do this many times, each after he makes a trip around through the office. It'll take a bit, but should ideally trigger after 3 times. If you do this, you'll have an easter egg to find out, be given some Cigarette Gas-Spray from your stuff (he thinks they're just Cigarettes), and have another opportunity noted below. When he gets very close to the jail cell, it's possible to knock him out with it through the bars.
If you happen to get your hands on rotten food within your cell (fly on it). Chuck that out the cell door opening for Johnny to eat as well, and it may give you something funny to watch.
There are a few ways to get out of this part of the game. Some of them may be more fun or interesting or practical than others:
  • Unlock your cell door with codec 144.75. Most find this CODEC during a first-person view during the torture cutscene previously. This could have also been seen in the top-right of the chalkboard in the background in the room where you find Sokolov just before the torture stuff. You can also find this codec number in that jail cell cutscene with Johnny described above (press R1 / RB at a certain point when prompted). Knock him out with the Cigarette Gas-Spray through the bars first if you got your hands on them.
  • Use the Fake Death Pill you used CURE to obtain, which will trigger a "Game Over" screen. Do not exit. Wait until Johnny comes inside the cell to check on your body. Once he enters, use the Revival Pill from your item menu (yes, despite have a game over screen, your Left Directional button item menu should work) to come back to life, and knock him out.
  • When Johnny is near your cell, go into the pause menu and into the viewer mode for Snake. Spin him around a LOT. Exit to gameplay and Snake should puke. Don't move, and just wait. Johnny will then unlock the door to come make sure you're alright. Wait until he's inside your cell, and knock him out.
  • Harass everyone on the CODEC long enough.
Proceed With the Story
There are no collectibles to worry about during this part of the game story. Just focus on proceeding with the story, making your way to the now-opened hatch in the northern fenced area of Groznyj Grad Northwest (be careful on your way there as you have limited camo index), and through Groznyj Grad Sewers.
However, we will note some helpful items on your way there.
Once you are out of your cell and ready to proceed, scavenge the Jail building for items, and then head outside. Be careful of guards and save often. The Cardboard Box may be behind the Jail building again if you want to grab it. It might help you hide if used well.
In Groznyj Grad Northwest there may be some items underneath the tanks again. Remember to watch out for the dogs in this area. Sometimes the 3rd one in front front where you enter tends to have SAA ammo. It could alleviate some backtracking later if you're able to get some. There's also some in Groznyj Grad Sewers where you're headed too, though.
Escaping Groznyj Grad
You can go about this a LOT of ways. Here's my usual approach for this that mostly works at least through Hard difficulty.
After exiting the Jail building, crawl forward along the building wall to the left, and see the guard at marker 1 (on the screenshot below). As soon as he turns around, you can likely get up and dive roll through him to knock him down and then promptly head through the crawl space at marker 2 to the next area (Groznyj Grad Southwest) before he gets up and starts any alert. Move north near the wall and watch for a guard about marker 3. Either wait for him to patrol away and sneak past, or dive roll through him and quickly disappear around the corner and to the door at marker 4 into Groznyj Grad Northeast. Crawl from marker 4 to 5 and you might draw some light attention, but it should be fine, and quickly head through the door at marker 6 into Groznyj Grad Northwest. From here,m watch out for searchlights and dogs in addition to guards. I just tend to crawl in front of the tanks and cross over around the sleeping northern dog. Watch for patrols.
Groznyj Grad Sewers
Once in Groznyj Grad Sewers, check each level before heading downstairs to scavenge whatever items you can. At a certain point, you're going to be chased by dogs and have no time left. If you're smooth about it, you can line up towards the crawlspaces you gotta go through and hold Triangle / Y button to roll and lie prone as you get to it, however I usually screw this up and find it's more consistently efficient and quick to just not roll. I think there's also some speedrunners trick with a Cardboard Box here but I don't remember.
Head in the direction you see an outside light at the end. You'll hit bars you can't go through. Go through the crawlspace to the left. Proceed and loop back to the right through another crawlspace into the main corridor. Cross over the water to the other side, go up the stairs, hug the right side wall running on this right side ledge and go all the way until it nearly ends, and go through the right side crawlspace. Proceed and loop back to the left through another crawlspace into the main corridor. You'll hear the music starting as you head straight towards the outside light for a cutscene.
Generally, I find it best to ignore the dogs and just rush to the end. Trying to fight them only makes things worse.
The Sorrow’s River / Boss "Fight"
Un-named Boss Fight area after having jumped off the waterfall to escape Groznyj Grad. This area was inspired by Sanzu-no-kawa[en.wikipedia.org], known as the River of Three Crossings, involving "a stretch of deep, snake-infested waters" where "Before reaching the afterlife ... The weight of one's offenses while alive determines which path an individual must take."
Very interesting for this game.
  • Camo (Spirit) – You MUST move all the way to the end of the river at least once without dying. Then once you reach the end it will force you to die. Once you ‘die’ from that, DO NOT hit CONTINUE or EXIT, but rather use the Revival Pill with the item menu (hold the Left Directional button) while on the death screen. You will automatically be awarded the spirit camo when you meet up with EVA shortly after. Do not die before reaching the end, by drowning yourself or otherwise or you will miss out on the camo.
Any "enemies" here will sap the life out of you when they get very close to you. The Sorrow on occasional will shoot out a spiraling attack that will also harm and scare the CRAP out of you. You can kind of anticipate this and avoid by moving immediately left or right. I typically do my best to hug one side and then go immediately to the other side once I think he might be attacking. This of course is difficult if you've killed a lot of people.
The Bosses will be here even if you didn't kill them lethally. You'll know you're getting close to the end of it after you've seen The Fury, and then The Sorrow will eventually warp far ahead and hover over his own body. Approach it.
Some enemies here will appear in ways they were killed. Such as being set on fire, or attacked by animals. The more people you've killed, the longer it'll take in between Bosses showing back up, and getting to the end of it.
I'm pretty sure in the older version of the game, it was possible to just dive under and swim faster to the end. That doesn't seem possible now as some guard spirit holds you back.
Tikhogornyj
Hopefully you previously got rid of the transmitter Ocelot put in you during the torture scene. If not, you're gonna have to deal with GRU soldiers here on your way to see EVA.
  • Kerotan #49 – The Kerotan is near you, at the end of the stream where you start. If you picked up some bullets for the SAA along the way you can shoot it now, if not, then you’ll have to come back and shoot it after you meet EVA behind the waterfall and get your gear back.
Head north towards your meet with EVA under the waterfall.
  • Ga-Ko #49 – Just before you meet EVA, on the left side of the waterfall on a rock, looking up slightly. Again, if you have bullets, you can get it, or grab this after meeting EVA.
Meet with EVA under the waterfall.
After EVA
After the cutscene with EVA (and getting your equipment back) go back outside the waterfall to return to this area. Now that you have your guns back, you can get the collectibles above if you missed them. Maybe make a save just in case.
  • Face Paint (Kabuki) – In the pool of water by the waterfall. This is NOT here until after you first meet with EVA in the next area. You will have to backtrack for this after the cutscene. It's at the bottom on the western side of the pool.
  • TSUCHINOKO – SUPER MISSABLE! After the cutscene with EVA in Tikhogornyj: Behind Waterfall (the next area), you MUST come back to this area before proceeding in the game and re-capture the Tsuchinoko ALIVE! Upon returning to this area from the waterfall, it’s on the left just past the pool of water, past the rock and tree, slithering around on the ground. DO NOT KILL IT! Tranquilize it and capture it alive in a cage again. Be sure to keep it alive in your inventory through to the end of the game.
    If for some reason you STILL have not eaten it to get it logged in the Collections menu, then make a manual save, eat it to get it logged, then reload the save and keep it with you alive until the end of the game.
If you want a laugh and a lot of food, chuck a Stun Grenade in the waterfall pool. When everything here is done, head back under the waterfall where you met EVA.
Tikhogornyj: Behind Waterfall
Important: Before proceeding after the cutscene, go back to Tikhogornyj (above) and follow the Tsuchinoko advice written there to recapture it. Also grab the face paint and other collectibles if you didn’t have bullets for them previously. Just be sure you fully took care of that area before moving on.
There's a Mk22 suppressor in the campfire room, an M1911A1 suppressor on the right down the hall. Some Russian Glowcap's are also here. Grab them if you want for your batteries or to help in a later Boss Fight.
  • Ga-Ko #50 – Follow the corridor until you come to the 2nd set of locked gates on the right, it’s on a box behind them.
  • Cardboard Box B – At the dead end of the hall, past the door. Grab this before proceeding. It's easy to miss. Yes, Box B came after Box C.
  • Kerotan #50 – Follow the corridor to the room with the ladder, it is on a pipe above you, opposite the ladder which is a point of no return.
The Less-Famous Ladder / Return to Groznyj Grad
WARNING! This ladder in the room at the end is a point of no return, be sure you handled everything in these areas before going up the ladder.
After the cutscene climbing out of the tunnel, you'll be in Groznyj Grad Northwest in broad daylight. Don't forget there are dogs there, and everyone can see you more easily now. There's a guard way up high on the guard tower north of your start point too, near the first dog. The patrols have also changed and I think there's more guards. There's usually a trio of them that start out on the other side of the truck from you. Be very careful.
Before proceeding the same way we used to in the pre-MGS Delta days, you have new things to take care of. Hooray! Responsibilities! Head to Groznyj Grad Northeast directly from here.
Fun With Boxes & Trucks
Another time, when you AREN'T going for all the items, something fun you can do here, and can help you shortcut the game, is head to the northern part of Groznyj Grad Northwest where there's a cargo truck like before. If you crawl inside the back of the cargo truck, your acquired Cardboard Boxes can help you get to other areas faster. Box A will take you inside a storage room of the East Wing, and Box B will now take you straight to the Main Wing with the Shagohod, bypassing a lot of sneaking. However, you'll miss items. Don't do this on your collectibles playthrough, since once you are in that Main Wing hangar, I don't think you can go back.
There's a similar truck in the northern part of Groznyj Grad Northeast as well during this daytime return trip.
Groznyj Grad Northeast (2nd Time)
This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry. It only appears on the second visit to Groznyj Grad after meeting up with EVA and making your way back via Tikhogornyj.
  • Close Call Secret Reel #13 – Near the door you come in on the western side of Groznyj Grad Northeast from Groznyj Grad Northwest, if you go left (be careful of a guard north of you up high on a guard tower) and peek around the crates and the small hangar you're next to, and look across the yard, there will be guards training and hustling back and forth. The guard closer to you that is ordering them around and occasionally shooting his rifle into the sky is the one you want. It's on the front-left of his pants.
    I don't know of many good ways to do this one. But assuming you're playing on an easier difficulty, the best option is likely to take out the OTHER guard(s) that he's ordering around. Get them when they're away from everyone. Shoot them or lure them away one at a time. I dunno.
    If you do this correctly, he'll simply forget what he's doing and begin to walk away towards the door you came in behind the crates. Sneak up behind him (I'm not sure if he was leaving the area or just patrolling behind the small hangar).
Once you have it, head to Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: East Wing, the door in the north middle of this area, where you previously went to find Raikov.
The trucks near the door you need to go in have items in them again.
Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: East Wing (2nd Time)
This is your return trip here during daytime. The no face paint and scientist outfit should work again for guards. Watch out for other scientists.
Loot things if you want, and then head upstairs where the lockers were. Most of the items are the same as before throughout this area, except for these two noted below.
  • Camo (Sneaking Suit) – This is in the same locker with the red stripe that you put Raikov in earlier, in the room on the 2nd floor. Only obtainable this time you come through here.
  • Camo (Maintenance) – In the opposite set of lockers as the above, the 2nd from the left (or the easternmost ones, 2nd from the north). Only obtainable this time you come through here.
Head through the 2nd floor southwestern door again like when you last went looking for Sokolov. This should take you automatically through a cutscene to Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: Main Wing Hangar.
Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: Main Wing Hangar
Before you proceed, if you want some more items (some suppressors and a LF Med). When you gain control of Snake, don't go into the Main Hangar, but instead back out and go left back down the hall into the Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: West Wing Corridor, the bridge you went through on your way to where you last saw Sokolov before being captured and tortured. There are some items in that bridge hallway with the windows where the two guards were.
Then return to the Main Wing Hangar and go inside where the Shagohod is. This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry.
  • Ga-Ko #51 – As soon as you enter, to the right, go up the stairs in front of you. At the top you'll find a console a maintenance worker was in front of. You can hug the wall to your right, look up at the overhead trusses/beams past the console, and slightly left, about 3-4 trusses/crossbeams back, it's on top of one, hidden behind others. Some angles will be difficult.
    Alternatively, go past the console just a few steps on the bridge to the first double-set of balusters supporting the railing that are wider than the others. Turn right (north) and look upward and to the right slightly, you will see it on one of the support beams ahead. From the console count roughly 3-4 trusses/crossbeams above and look from different angles to see it. Can be hard to spot if other beams overlap it. The duck blends in with the color of the beams.
  • Kerotan #51 – On the left (west) side of the Shagohod, up the stairs on the floor behind a railing between two control panels near where you plant one of the C3 charges on a fuel tank. Your back to the fuel tank, and look at the side of the Shagohod, look slightly down. There’s usually a worker monitoring these panels.
  • He's Still Got It Secret Reel #14 – Guard patrolling the back-left (northwest) behind the Shagohod on the lower floor. Near the fuel tank in the back area you have to put C3 on. Watch out for other guards (depending on difficulty) and the Maintenance worker up above.
Be sure to accomplish everything above BEFORE setting the 4th and final C3, because you will automatically proceed to a cutscene and there is no going back.
Groznyj Grad B1F / Boss Fight
Volgin Boss Fight
After setting your 4th and final C3, and after the cutscene, you MUST do the following during the Volgin boss fight. Highly recommend another manual save just in case.
  • Ga-Ko #52 – Once the battle with Volgin starts, look directly to your right (east) to see it on a metal box on the wall below the bridge on your side of the arena.
  • Kerotan #52 – In the back-left corner (southwest) of the Volgin battle arena, your far left when the battle started. Look up to the very top of the arena hole. It’s to the left of Ocelot and next to some crates.
  • Camo (Cold War) – Awarded for defeating Volgin by depleting his stamina. IMPORTANT! Make sure to pick it up immediately before the cutscene starts. He will drop it and you’ll have a few brief seconds to grab it. He will drop to his knees and slowly drop to the floor, so you'll know he's going down. It'll pop out after not far from his body.
Volgin Tips
Honestly, what you should do most of the time is just wear DPM or Battle Dress (PW Vers.) to increase natural life recovery rate, and maybe shield a bit of damage. Get to his side (I find his left, Snake's right when he charges you works best), and CQC him to the ground (some stamina damage), and then quickly roll dodge over his body while he's down (more stamina damage) BEFORE he electrifies.
Any other tactics aren't great, especially on Hard difficulty. So I usually roll dodge to the right slightly as he charges, and attempt to quickly turn and CQC him down. It's also absolutely necessary to roll dodge him very closely when he charges Snake while electrified. It'll get him to punch and miss and release the charge, allowing you to CQC him to the ground, then roll over his body. Then as he's getting electrified and getting up, I get a bit of distance to try and enccourage him to charge again so I can rinse and repeat.
Some of this is luck, depending on what he does. Some of it is getting every possible hit.
Other tips
Remember that you are likely going for no kills. So use tranquilizers, stun grenades, and CQC. The fight has two phases. Be sure to set yourself up with quick equip/unequip of your weapon, since your weapons are metal and attract his electricity. Generally, you want to have them unequipped.
If he's not currently electrified and charging Snake, you can CQC him to the ground with the right timing, preferably getting him from the side or behind. Otherwise I try to roll dodge him slightly to the side as he tries to punch or charge at me, and quickly turn around and get him either with CQC or a few shots in the back. If you dodge him too far from his body, he'll just repeat the pattern of chasing Snake, wasting time, so you gotta roll dodge just before he gets to Snake and ideally roll only slightly to Volgin's side.
If he's charging at Snake while electrified, you can't just keep evading him. He'll waste time. You gotta roll dodge very close to him to get him to use up his full-body charge in a punch at Snake (hopefully just barely missing Snake) so you can get in close after. Otherwise he'll just keep chasing Snake while full-body charged.
Either CQC or a few shots at him should knock him to the ground. While he's down, shoot him directly in the head quickly with the Mosin-Nagant (don't bother aiming down sights). You gotta be quick. He'll activate some kind of electric protection shield before he gets up. If you're going for lethal, use the SVD. On Hard difficulty, his shield activates almost instantly and this becomes frustrating.
If he's charging up a bolt that starts to form and come towards Snake, if you're quick enough during his animation, you can get to his side or behind and CQC him to the ground and shoot him in the head again.
Throwing a Russian Glowcap out will temporarily distract his electric bolts for a very brief period of time. I would save them for Phase Two. They'll give you a brief chance to CQC him.
You can wear the Raikov mask (and maybe Officer Uniform required as well, not sure), and Volgin will think it's him and stop attacking and get on his knees for a short period of time, allowing you to get behind and attack him, or put down some TNT or something. I don't tend to seriously use this tactic cause it's all slow and wastes time.
You can shoot Ocelot up above during the first phase.
During Phase Two, he'll start shooting bullets out sometimes. I don't know of definitive ways to avoid them other than learning the patterns and dodging and getting lucky. You may need to CURE bullet wounds if hit. At minimum remove the bullets since there's no cost. Maybe use Styptic if you don't want to fully CURE every time you get shot.
~Motorcycle Chase Tips~
All of the Motorcycle Chase sections are the hardest Kerotan & Ga-Ko to get as they are in chase sequences where you don't have a lot of time or control over your view, and in some cases you have to do it while moving. You can shoot them with a sniper rifle (SVD) from distance, or close up with the RPG, M63, or the M37 if you aren’t worried about killing guards, or if no guards are close. Some are farther than others.
For the first few Motorcycle Chase sections, on easier difficulties you can mostly just ignore the guards and generally EVA will wait as long as needed, giving you ample time to shoot the Kerotan and Ga-Ko, then you can deal with the guards. I prefer to chuck Stun grenades when I'm not going for these collectibles.
If you are dealing with guards and fighting and feel overwhelmed, you can try the unequip/equip approach some people do during a lot of Boss fights (hold aim with R2 / RT, and then unequip/equip while continuing to hold the aim, and it'll reload fast).
This part of the guide is just tips for all motorcycle chase sections. They'll be labeled in the guide.
Save, Save, Save and Don't Kill
Make a manual save at the beginning of every single area and do not proceed unless you are certain you got the Kerotan and Ga-Ko (fortunately reloading saves is much faster and easier in Delta). In case you kill someone, if you're going for no kills, you'll want to reload as well. If it goes to the next area before you get a chance to re-load the save, you'll lose the autosave. Don't rely on it.
Others have noted, and as we've noted earlier in the guide, that shooting the motorcycle guards with non-lethal doesn't count as a kill even if they crash, apparently. Or Stun Grenades, but those aren't a good idea if going for collectibles.
Ensure You Got the Kerotan & Ga-Ko
Make sure to check the pause menu (bottom-right) if you’re not sure if you hit one, to ensure it registered. You won't be able to check the maps. If you've been getting everything up to now, then the count you see in the pause menu should be the numbers you see here. Otherwise, it's best to keep track of the counts you started with when you enter an area so you can tell if it went up when you shoot them.
Given how loose and easy Delta is with these, I am fairly sure you could get away with grabbing them on separate loads, since they carry over. It doesn't seem to be like previous versions of the game when a reload would undo what you might have gotten.
Camo
Remember that the Animal camo outfit steadies your aim and can help a lot if you're having trouble with some farther ones. Here again though I find Delta makes things a little bit easier since it's finally easier to actually SEE things.
Equip the Cold War camo (you got this from defeating Volgin non-lethally) and face enemies to show them the Soviet side of it, and they won't shoot you. It can help in some instances. Note that the other U.S. side seems to cause them to be more aggressive toward you.
Aiming
These sequences have a cinematic camera that can be obnoxious. If you go to aim with L2 / LT, it will typically enter the view facing the camera direction. Often, this is not what you want, especially during scenes where the camera is facing enemies behind but Snake needs to look forward to shoot something coming up.
I find it best to use the Left Stick to position Snake for upcoming things,and then enter first-person view first with R1 / RB, and THEN aim with L2 / LT and it'll default in the direction Snake was facing instead of the camera. This can sometimes make this easier and avoid having to spin Snake all the way around.
You can also hit Pause, and go to Options > Controls, and find these settings:
  • Camera Look Sensitivity (mine was 1.6)
  • Aim Sensitivity (mine was 1.0)
  • First Person View /Scope Camera Sensitivity (mine was 1.7)
Adjust these if you think it may help, to either speed/slow things with aiming.
Groznyj Grad (Motorcycle Chase)
Consult the ~Motorcycle Chase Tips~ section of the guide above for tips on handling these sections.
Remember to make a manual save upon entry.
  • Kerotan #53 – You have two opportunities to shoot this one. When EVA stops for the first time, it’s in the guard tower ahead (west). Look at the top, inside the room at the top of the guard tower.
    Alternatively, EVA will drive past the Jail and the tank Hangars and out to the yard with tanks and stop again against a tank and near the overhead connecting bridge, you can see the same guard tower behind you (east) with the Kerotan.
  • Ga-Ko #53 – When EVA stops for the 2nd time by the tanks out in the yard with the connecting bridge overhead above, look up at the northwest guard tower to the left of that bridge to see this. This is NOT the tower the Kerotan is in. The tower is next to the West Wing building where you had to meet Sokolov.
The next area begins right as you cross under that connecting bridge, and then there's two cutscenes you can skip.
Groznyj Grad Runway South (Motorcycle Chase)
Consult the ~Motorcycle Chase Tips~ section of the guide above for tips on handling these sections.
Remember to make a manual save upon entry.
This one begins after the cutscene where Ocelot has chased you on a motorcycle. EVA will enter a tighter area surrounded by small buildings and guards closing in, turn around, then turn around again and stop. Cold War camo is best here. Both Kerotan and Ga-Ko should be gotten at the same spot here. EVA generally won't proceed until you take care of guards here.
  • Kerotan #54 – When EVA stops for the first time, looking west at the guards, the Kerotan is on a forklift on the left, a little bit farther away.
  • Ga-Ko #54 – At the same stop as the Kerotan, the Ga-Ko is on top of a barrel on the right, underneath where a guard is on the roof.
Take care of the guards to proceed
    Later, she'll stop a second time closer to these and you'll have another chance. But you're more likely to be shot at here.
Take care of the guards to proceed again.
The next area begins as you exit through open gates out onto an open runway, and then there's one cutscene you can skip.
Groznyj Grad Runway (Motorcycle Chase)
Consult the ~Motorcycle Chase Tips~ section of the guide above for tips on handling these sections.
Remember to make a manual save upon entry.
Remember that the Animals camo can help with aiming. The Cold War camo can reduce the soldiers shooting at you so long as you are facing them. These ones have to be shot while EVA is driving and it takes a while before you get to it. EVA will swerve around a bit before turning left (west) to head down the very long runway.
Now with Delta and improved graphics, you can actually read the runway marker posts/boxes (they are numbered) on either side of the runway. They can help you anticipate when something is coming up by counting them.
  • Kerotan #55 – Use your SVD and look on the left (south) of the runway in the direction you are heading, you can see it on top of a short box/post with number "7" on it as you are in view of some planes on the left, it’s immediately past a connecting road, it may take several tries to hit it. Remember that in Delta you can now go into the Pause Menu immediately after shooting it and confirm the counter went up.
  • Ga-Ko #55 – Look in the direction you are heading again, and on the left (same side of the runway as the Kerotan was), and look on top of the short box/post with number “11” on it. This is just before reaching the plane and getting another cutscene that leads into the next area, so be quick to shoot it. Also be quick to check your Pause Menu, or else you'll have to wait to reload from the next area.
The next part begins very shortly after the Ga-Ko, and then one cutscene you can skip.
Thanks to _H0und and Slimer B.U.R.T in the comments for helping refine this.
Groznyj Grad Runway 2nd Area (Motorcycle Chase)
Consult the ~Motorcycle Chase Tips~ section of the guide above for tips on handling these sections.
Remember to make a manual save upon entry.
This is the 2nd runway area with Shagohod healthbar. Just like in the previous runway area, look for the short posts/boxes on the sides of the runway. I find shooting these from very far away with the SVD is the easiest, the closer you get, the more the driving affects your aim. Don't forget the Animals camo to smooth out your aim. Especially since the guards are basically gone.
  • Kerotan #56 – In the direction you are traveling, it's on top of box number “18” on your right (north). You start out this area passing box number "15," so it's not very long into this section. Afterwards, the Shagohod will drive right over it.
  • Ga-Ko #56 – Look in the direction of travel again, and it's on top of a long section of white/red striped barrier railing between boxes number “25” & “26” on your left (south). The Shagohod will still be shooting at you from behind and it's a big interruption to your aiming, so you must be quick to hit it from far away. Some Shagohod tips about this below the screenshots.
    If you have Chaff Grenades, the Shagohod will sometimes start shooting missiles at you right before this, and I think chucking a Chaff Grenade when you're passing roughly box "20" or "21" might help interrupt this.
    You can also shoot the front treads of the Shagohod with RPG's to disable them slightly and slow it down for a little bit, which may alleviate some of the bullets being shot at you. You'd have to be quick to shoot it once or twice in the treads though and then turn around to shoot the Ga-Ko.
The area won't end long after the Ga-Ko and then you can skip two cutscenes.
Thanks to _H0und and Slimer B.U.R.T in the comments for helping refine this.
Groznyj Grad Rail Bridge / Boss Fight
Make a manual save here. There's not much time and a lot to do. It'll help you re-do parts of this and make it easier.
Highly recommend Animals camo.
You start this area facing the bridge and cannot move, but you can stand up. You MUST get the Kerotan AND Ga-Ko this BEFORE shooting the C3’s. DO NOT shoot the C3's or progress the story unless you've gotten both.
  • Kerotan #57 – Stand up and look to your left and down at the arch support under the bridge on the opposite side. It's sitting on the arch, two spandrels back from the middle of the bridge (spandrels are the vertical support beams from the arch underneath to the deck of the bridge).
  • Ga-Ko #57 – Look at the other far end of the bridge, where the Shagohod is coming from, to the right of the bridge you’ll see this on a snow covered rock. On the height of the bridge where the Shagohod tank drives.
    Considering what's going on in the story here, I don't like this Ga-Ko's little smug face.
I love that EVA will complain about what you're doing or looking at. Once you get these and confirmed it, shoot the C3's. On Hard difficulty, look near the middle of the bridge, halfway across the chasm, and see two easily seen c3 on either side of the bridge. Shoot both so some stuff falls, revealing a third c3 farther back in the middle. Shoot that final one when EVA says it's here.
Then it will proceed the story. You can skip one cutscene.
Boss Fight
At the start of the fight after the bridge, it is highly recommended to make another save since you have a hidden FPV cutscene coming up, just in case you have to redo it.
To damage the Shagohod, shoot with the RPG at its “feet” so they make blue sparks. Remember to utilize the unequip/equip method to reload faster (hold aim constantly with R2 / RT, and then unequip/equip while continuing to hold the aim, and it'll reload fast). Once you shoot one or both tracks to stop it, let EVA drive behind it and shoot the blue sparks in its back with the RPG. Do this a few times until the cutscene which you can skip.
Then you should be on foot, and you can focus on the collectibles while EVA distracts Volgin during the second phase of this fight.
Watch out cause EVA will also run you over during this. her path is fairly fixed.
  • Kerotan #58 – When fighting Volgin on foot in the 2nd phase of fight, in the northwest corner of the map, look on the roof of the small building with a tall radio tower, the Kerotan is right here on the corner of the roof near one of the feet of the tower.
  • Ga-Ko #58 – While on foot, at the south edge of the map this sits on a red piece of metal where the destroyed bridge is, on the cliff just below where the boss area ends.
Proceed to defeat Volgin again non-lethally when he's on top of the Shagohod. Shoot the treads with an RPG to slow him down and distract him. Shoot both treads to make it a bit longer. Remember the quick unequip/equip to reload. Then use the Mosin-Nagant on him directly (preferably in the head). If he charges at you, lay down and let him drive over you (hopefully you're in the center of the Shagohod as he goes over) and then get up and move. If you aren't going non-lethal, then just RPG his face when he is distracted from shooting the treads.
DO NOT skip cutscenes after you defeat him.
  • Hidden FPV Cutscene #3 – After defeating Volgin, quite a ways into the cutscene, Volgin will burst into flames, fall over on top of the remains of the Shagohod, and Snake will remark about him being fried by a bolt of lightning. Begin holding R1 / RB when Snake says “it’s finally over” and you will see The Sorrow behind EVA.
Immediately after the cutscene ends, you'll be in the next area.
Groznyj Grad Rail Bridge North (Motorcycle Chase)
Consult the ~Motorcycle Chase Tips~ section of the guide above for tips on handling these sections.
Remember to make a manual save upon entry.
These ones don't come up for quite a while, so just equip Cold War camo and face the enemies behind for a bit. You'll pass two buildings tucked into the canyon on your left before eventually reaching a large tunnel through the mountain.
  • Ga-Ko #59 – After driving through the tunnel (equip the Animals camo if you want), turn to look in the direction you’re driving (not behind you where enemy motorbikes are). You will drive towards a guard tower (heading east), and to the left just below the guard tower you find this on top of the front bumper of a military vehicle. EVA will pass then vehicle, turn south to wrap around the tower and turn back north, where it'll be to your east, very close again. You must be fast to shoot it with a sniper rifle while driving towards the guard tower, or even faster as she drives right next to it after going around the tower.
  • Kerotan #59 – Very soon after the Ga-Ko, only two turns and heading north. There will be a blockade with 2 white & red-striped barriers, some military vehicles and guards, and a tower to the right ()as you are approaching). Aim forward in the direction you’re driving as you approach (not behind you), you’ll spot this on the ground straight ahead between the two red/white blockades. There's also guards right next to it, so RPG's not a good idea here. I find it best to get it as we come up straight at it. EVA will very briefly stop past it just before the next area, so you need to be very fast to shoot it before EVA drives away.
The next area starts almost immediately after the Kerotan.
Lazorevo South (Motorcycle Chase)
Consult the ~Motorcycle Chase Tips~ section of the guide above for tips on handling these sections.
Remember to make a manual save upon entry.
  • Kerotan #60 – Not long after entering the area you will see this on the ground in front of a large rock slightly to your right. It'll be straight ahead as you approach before EVA turns slightly left. If you are struggling to hit it with the SVD try using the M37 shotgun when close. The RPG might work here too, but the motorcycle movement makes it difficult to plant it at the rock. It will come into sight exactly 5 seconds after the start of the area.
  • Ga-Ko #60 – A bit after the Kerotan, keep looking in the direction you’re driving towards (to the front of your motorbike, not behind you where enemies are). EVA will drive down a slightly steeper dip and back up to the right and left two times, and this is just after the second dip, immediately left looking over EVA's head about the motorcycles height on a long branch. I found the M37 shotgun most helpful out of first-person view.
Equipping the Cold War camo and facing the flying platform guards is kinda funny, if you watch them while doing it.
Far into this area, you'll need to look ahead and shoot a log in the way. EVA will tell you it's coming. Face forward quickly and look for it on the ground and shoot it. Careful with an RPG as one of the flying platform guards might get in front and you might blow them up. I just use an M63 and shoot like crazy and the center of the leaning log. It breaks easily.
The next area begins shortly after.
Lazorevo North (Motorcycle Chase)
Consult the ~Motorcycle Chase Tips~ section of the guide above for tips on handling these sections. Fortunately, this is the final motorcycle chase section.
Remember to make a manual save upon entry. Both collectibles are early on in this area.
  • Kerotan #61 – Very soon after entering the area you will see this on top of a rock on the left of the path EVA is driving on. Just as the road heads downhill and to the right.The Kerotan is straight ahead as you approach, but on the left of the motorcycle as you pass it, and it’s on top of a tall rock. If you are struggling to hit it with the SVD, try using the M37 shotgun when close, or maybe the RPG. I found the SVD and aiming ahead and anticipating it the best. Took a couple shots and tries.
  • Ga-Ko #61 – Immediately after the Kerotan, look to the right of the direction you are traveling (look east) at the river. The duck is on the biggest rock in the middle of the river ahead of where EVA will cross the river the first time (south of where you cross, behind). You can see it through the trees before you reach the first river crossing. If you've crossed the river the first time, you missed it. I had a really hard time with this one, and eventually got it with the M63 in third-person view, with Snake already turned to the side anticipating it coming up, and I got it when closer firing wildly at the rock. This took a lot of reloads. Remember to check the Pause Menu to confirm the counter went up.
Remember you need to face the soldiers for the Cold War camo to work. You'll need to do that when they move to the right (east) and are across the river from you. There's quite a long way to go in this section after the collectibles.
Yay, the Motorcycle Chase is Over!
EVA will jump over a cliff, and you get one of my favorite parts of the game. Congratulations, the ridiculous motorcycle chase sections are finally over.
The next area begins and you can skip a cutscene and CODEC call if you want.
Zaozyorje West
After the cutscene and CODEC call, you'll have to CURE both of you, then there's another cutscene you can skip.
EVA Things
Here's a few things to know for both Zaozyorje areas with EVA:
  • You must call her using X / A button, to get her to follow you.
  • If EVA’s stamina runs out she will refuse to continue walking, then you must find food around the area and feed it to her from the food menu (keep your Tsuchinoko alive though). Any negative effects Snake can get from food, EVA can also get.
  • There's at least one small cave opening (near the log bridge in the first area), and if you get her to it, I'm pretty sure it'll raise her stamina. Normally, you shouldn't be hanging around for that though, unless you wanted to take time taking out guards while she hangs out in there. There might be other caves. I don't tend to hang out in these sections of the game much.
  • She will kill an occasional guard if you get spotted.
...and a few fun things:
  • You can spin EVA in the Pause Menu Model Viewer and then exit to see her puke, just like Snake.
  • If you harm her, she'll suddenly have pep and remind Snake who is the real boss.
  • If you get her safely to the next area without her being harmed, she'll have less clothes on in the CURE Menu.
  • If you stare at her long enough, she'll make various remarks.
  • If you watch her in the Model Viewer skeleton/x-ray view, she'll do a few interesting movements.
  • If you wear certain face paints, she'll think you're an idiot. Like Zombie, Kabuki, and Oyama.
  • If you knock out EVA, she'll talk in her sleep.
Continuing On
You should scavenge the immediate area where you started best you can before proceeding south. There's some rations behind the tree you start next to, and if you collect them, SAVE, and then reload, the ones you collected will be in your inventory AND new ones on the ground behind the tree again. Do this a few times and you can stock up quickly before proceeding.
You can leave EVA behind for now since once you proceed a little bit forward, there will be a cutscene you can skip, and a Caution will start after, and EVA will be automatically moved to where you're at. So there's no need to lead her there.
Guards will be coming from behind you VERY QUICKLY in more than one wave after the cutscene. Keep an eye on your behind and stay low and check your camo. Continue forward (south) and get EVA to head up the right path (southwest) out of the way before dealing with the guards, preferably all the way to a log bridge. If you do the below collectibles and get across the mentioned log bridge quickly, you can avoid some guards (see explanation after the collectibles.
  • Kerotan #62 – Once the CAUTION starts and there’s two paths to the South, take the southwest path (the right one when facing south), and when you come to a log bridge, get on the log and look down to the left of it (east).
  • Ga-Ko #62 – On the same log bridge, but look down to the right of it (west). It blends in with the rocks.
Get EVA across the log bridge quickly and get the two collectibles noted above, then set a TNT on the bridge and blow it before guards get to it. This is optional, and you don't want to kill anyone if doing a no kill playthrough, but you'll slow the guards progress in chasing you if you do this. You'd have to move quickly for this to work.
Now head to the objective marker together with EVA, watching out for potential guards coming from the other route you didn't take.
There will be one cutscene you can skip,and then a point of no return to start the next area.
Zaozyorje East
This area has a Secret Reel. Make a manual save just in case you need to retry.
It might make sense to leave EVA behind if you can until you've handled everything, and maybe take out all the guards too.
  • Metal Gear Raiden: Snake Eraser Secret Reel #15 – This might be the hardest one in the entire game. It's also your final one. There are two guards that are patrolling together, and their patrol takes them farther than the others. They start on the other side of the clearing you start in, and they're heading down the slope next to the wall on their way towards the intersection, around a large rock, and eventually to the other clearing on the opposite end of this area (near where your objective is). It's usually one of these two guards, and I have experienced it being either one on many reloads. Try to get a look at their chests to see which one has the reel clipped and hanging, or just gamble.
    I find it best to take out the other guards besides these two, and then there are some moments when the following guard lags behind slightly and tries to catch up to the lead guard. If you time it right, you can tranquilize the opposite one where they are separated enough not to notice. Or you can tranquiolize one,and it'll be a distraction for the Secret Reel one to investigate. Then you sneak up on the remaining guard and hold him up. I found sometimes the following guard lags right at the start near the log on the slope they're heading down, and also near the rock they go around as they begin to head towards the next area.
    He'll resist and say taunting things to you and won't give it up. You'll have to use a lethal weapon and shoot around and near him without shooting him. I experienced this being varied in how much I needed to shoot near him. A silenced M1911A1 pistol around his feet into the ground worked well for me. Remember once you are done to switch back out of a lethal weapon and not accidentally kill him if you're going for no kills.
Continuing on with the collectibles:
  • Kerotan #63 – After the first area with guards you will see branching paths to the next area, it’s behind the big tree right in front of you before taking either path. Between the tree and the wall.
  • Ga-Ko #63 – Near the end of the area (don't get too close to the end or you'll trigger the cutscene), look to the left (northwest) of the exit to see this on a rocky ledge.
Proceed near the objective to trigger some cutscenes and the next area. I think there are 5-6 cutscenes you can skip all of. Though you really shouldn't cause it's the best part of the game.
Rokovoj Bereg / Boss Fight
There's a hidden FPV cutscene AFTER defeating The Boss here. There's also a lot to do during the fight and it can be difficult at times. Highly recommend you make a manual save right at the start.
The Boss Tips
If you want an achievement, make sure to parry both types of The Boss’ types of CQC attacks during the fight. This MUST be done in "New Style" control mode to get the proper animations to parry. You don't get the same CQC animations in Legacy Style.
This was done differently in the pre-Delta versions, where you'd be better off running right at her and hitting the CQC button right as Snake stops as he bumps into her. If you're playing in Legacy Style mode, then I'm not entirely sure how much of that is still as it used to be.
Thanks to DoloSanka in the comments for helping refine this.
  • When she rushes to grab you at the start of the fight, WAIT and DO NOT press anything too early. Let her get to you and the camera change...
    and then after that first hit, she'll follow up with an attempt to the gut. It'll make a deep swoosh sound and everything will slow down for a brief second. THIS is when you should press R2 / RT, and you should counter and put her to the ground.
    This is how you should counter her during the first half of the fight.
  • At half health, she should then do a different, longer CQC attack that starts the same way and you’ll need to press R2 / RT two times in order to counter her. The first time is the same as before. Wait for her to grab you and she will go for the gut hit as the 2nd hit, so you really gotta be patient, and press the button as it slows down. Then they'll continue CQC'ing and there will be ANOTHER second slower motion part where you hit the button again to get her down. Here's roughly the middle of that sequence where the second slow-motion part happens, and then a few scenes after.
Also, every single time you successfully CQC her to the ground, you should be shooting her (preferably in the head) with the Mosin-Nagant or some other tranquilizer. Just like the Volgin fight, you have to be quick.
Wear Snow camo and face paint to blend in. Lose her with distance and behind trees. Sneak around and up behind her. Careful though, take too long and she starts to move quick. If you stop moving, she'll find you quickly.
Collectibles During the Fight
During the fight, you'll need to sneak around and get these collectibles done.
Kerotan & Ga-Ko
  • Kerotan #64 – On top of one of the tall trees, more towards the center of the area. This should be your final Kerotan.
  • Ga-Ko #64 – On top of the next tree northeast from the Kerotan. This should be your final Ga-Ko.
Snakes
Here's some examples of what you're looking for:
  • Snake I (Snake Liquid) – Can be found on the ground near one of the logs, use the Thermal Goggles.
  • Snake J (Snake Solid) – Can be found on the ground near another one of the logs, use the Thermal Goggles.
  • Snake K (Snake Solidus) – Can be found on the ground near the last of the logs, use the Thermal Goggles.
    Here is where on the map for all three, next to logs:
    Remember you need to have EATEN all foods. Eat these new snakes before the end of the fight.
    Also remember DO NOT eat that Tsuchinoko. Keep it alive to the end of the game.
Immediately After Defeating The Boss
...and BEFORE any cutscene starts!
  • Camo (Snake) – Awarded for defeating The Boss by depleting her stamina. IMPORTANT! Make sure to pick it up immediately before the cutscene starts. She will drop it and you’ll have a few brief seconds to grab it near her body. It's fairly obvious floating on top of the flowers.
Post-Fight
After defeating The Boss, there will be a brief cutscene, and then one more gameplay element, and then another cutscene begins. DO NOT SKIP IT!
  • Hidden FPV Cutscene #4 – Her horse will approach her body on the ground and lift its head to neigh. Hold R1 / RB to see The Boss and The Sorrow together.
You can now skip cutscenes until the next section in the WIG.
WIG: Interior (Duel with Ocelot) / Post-Game
  • Special Action Army (SAA) – When Ocelot lets you choose a gun, make sure you choose the one on the RIGHT to obtain this gun as a special item collectible. The one on the left has the blank, but you want to collect the gun, so grab the one on the right.
Over the Soviet Border
Now your only remaining concern are a few hidden First-Person Views during cutscenes. You can skip three cutscenes, then a CODEC call, and then skip one more cutscene.
You will then get a save point, and you should definitely make a new manual save just in case.
You can then skip two cutscenes where EVA is present.
Post-Game
Now you should be at Snake dressed up walking down a hallway. After this DO NOT SKIP anymore cutscenes.
  • Hidden FPV Cutscene #5 – Snake approaches the President for an award. When the president says “You are a true patriot," he will try to shake Snakes hand, and then insist by stepping in closer. Hold R1 / RB and look left using the left analog stick, you will see Ocelot in the window. For this one you HAVE to move the stick to look left or it won't count. It should also net you another achievement as well.
  • Hidden FPV Cutscene #6 – When Snake salutes at The Boss’ grave, he'll then hold his head up higher, hold R1 / RB and you will see the graveyard blurred.
The rest of the collectible trophies will be unlocked after the credits at the results screen, and after going past the results screen where you will be awarded some special items.
  • Camo (Tuxedo) – Unlocked after the results screen for completing the game.
  • Face Paint (Infinity) – Unlocked after the results screen for completing the game with a captured Tsuchinoko in your inventory.
~~~Congratulations!~~~
Ideally, following this guide ensures you now have unlocked all the usable items for any subsequent playthroughs of the game. After the credits and the post-credits scene are done and it shows you your codename, it will ask you to save.

BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR COMPLETED GAME! This way you'll have a fresh completed game with all the items unlocked and ready for fun in repeat playthroughs.

Note that the Delta remake is much more friendly with this as the Collections menu helps you track everything, and some items are noted in area maps, your unlocked items aren't limited to the difficulty you chose, and simply loading saves with things collected will log them to the Collections menu. So I expect this to probably be easier than before.

Thank you to PowerPyx website for the initial guide I made back in the Master Collection, and then I modified it a lot for that as I played through it, and then borrowed from that and re-purposed for this Delta guide.

I will no doubt continue to modify this for my own preferences as I play through subsequent times, refining as I go.

On Hard, a guard in Graniny Gorki Exterior (Inside Walls) gave me the fire support frequency for Svyatogornyj West. So perhaps they sometimes give you one for upcoming areas and not always for the area they are in.

Amazing guide. Thank you! Really helped me complete the game.

Just some minor things if you wanted an edit -

In Rassvet (Snake Eater) you said "Mine Detector – Before you go into the room to meet EVA, it's to the right in a corner just before the door to that room. I don't recall if you can also grab it after the cutscene". - I checked this in my play-through and you can grab this after the cutscene with Eva

In Ponizovje South you said "In other parts of the game, if a guard falls, such as off a cliff or into water and drowns, I'm pretty sure those count as kills, but apparently this doesn't." - I also checked this on my play-through and as far as I can tell, accidentally killing guards never counts as a human kill. This includes them falling off of their hover platforms, quad-bikes, into water and into electric fences. I still got the achievement and my statistics said zero kills.

For those following this guide and getting to the tips about parrying CQC from The Boss. You don't get the same CQC animations in legacy mode as you do in new mode. The ones depicted in this guide are based on new mode, and you can't get the 'wax off, wax on' achievement on legacy mode, because you have to parry the 2 animations from new mode.

Guide is effectively done. Thank you everyone. Edits will probably be rare and minor from here. Let me know if there's an issue.

Thank you all for pointing out things to correct or add. I'm not fully done playing through and revising everything. But as I do I'm adding screenshots and trying to refine details. Nearly there.

The End's parrot usually hangs out on top of the ammo storage in Sokrovenno South, and you should be able to get it after the fight there as well. (At least, I could after a tranq kill)

Just finished a run using this guide, the only complaint i have is some instructions are unclear on the runway, and i somehow managed to miss 2 ga-ko, but thats on me lmao
