Text Format Script: How I Learned to Stop Wargaming and Love the Tag [Everything you need: Flags, Colours, Symbols, and More!]
By Vaakalintu and 2 collaborators
While browsing through WG:RD gamefiles in the September 2014 I stumbled upon a location called TTextFormatScript under which lied numerous lookup tables for different parameter entries for ingame text-embedded graphics which I decided to share with all my friends and ultimately the whole community with this comprehensive guide.

In this guide, you will learn how to tell Wargame to colour text messages and show graphics such as flags and other cool things!

These can be used in deck names, social chat, your nickname, and even ingame flares.

Text Format Script in Wargame allows you to give parameters to subroutines such as object-oriented graphics and text processing to colour text and show object-oriented graphics such as flags in Wargame: Red Dragon. If you want to know more about TextFormatScript this is the definitive guide!

Colour Scripts
[Note: The ^# colour tags work differently from the others. You need to use another tag before putting the ^# inside the brackets of said tag. Any tag works, we just used red because it's shortest.]

It's to denote how many players a map is recommended for. Ignored by most of the Wargame community.
Gitte

#Armored#Support#Marine
#Mecanized#Airborne#Naval
To denote deck specifications. Mecanized: Really, Eugen?
#contentDLC
To denote campaign saves from DLC 2 at the moment. Was used in Wargame: AirLand Battle to denote new DLC maps.
#locked
For passworded lobbies.
#lockIcon
Ingame flare markers only.
#cohesion
Used to denote "cohesion" units in campaign missions in Wargame: Red Dragon.
#star

#smallstar

#starIcon
Ingame flare markers only. Used to denote capital cities in campaign missions in Wargame: Red Dragon.
#command
For units that can command and control (referred to ingame as capturing or capping for short) strategic sectors.
#reco1
To denote good optics on a unit. Generally a good unit to accompany your infantry in the battlefield to act in fire support, surveillance, reconnaissance, and patrolling tasks.

Good optics are useful on open ground to accompany all units but are very severely limited when dealing with an opponent in cover.
#reco2
To denote very good optics on a unit. Generally a good unit to accompany your armour in the battlefield to act in fire support, surveillance, reconnaissance, and patrolling tasks.

When operating armoured units near heavily covered forest areas it is recommended to use infantry reconnaissance to avoid being spotted by opposing reconnaissance units and ensuingly being fired upon by ambushing vehicles.

Heavily armed reconnaissance units with very good or better optics can almost hold their own against opponents especially when in cover themselves.

Honourable mention goes to the M3A2 BRADLEY CFV reconnaissance unit which can defend an open area all by itself with the TOW 2 missile while avoiding the opponent spotting it when inside cover.
#reco3
To denote exceptional optics on a unit. Generally a good unit to accompany any unit but especially your anti-tank guided missile units in the battlefield to be able to spot opposing units from cover and to act in artillery observation, surveillance, reconnaissance, and patrolling tasks.

Weaponry on these units are usually intended to be purely defensive or even outright non-functioning dummy guns. Don't let them engage strong well organized opposition.
#unplugged
Ingame flare markers only. If you have bad internet connection, expect to see this often.
#sea
For pure-naval maps.
#land_sea
For mixed-terrain maps.
But how?
For example:
#10vs10 #Marine #ROK
You can use this to actually sort out your 65,536 decks in the armoury like I do! No more quitting the server because you couldn't find a proper deck fast enough in the lobby.

This is how you do it:

Input a # (hashtag) with your keyboard. My Finnish keyboard can type it with Shift+3.
Then add a code for the game that refers to a graphic.
TextFormatting needs brackets — #YourTextFormatScriptCodeHere{YourTextHere} — for the text, you can leave them open like this:

#YourTextFormatScriptCodeHere{Everything After This Bracket Is Parsed As Part Of The Text Format Script Code

If you find yourself needing multiple colors in a bit of text, the system simply stacks.
— #blue{VIVE#style1{LA#red{FRANCE — No spaces needed, is Poland-compatible.

At this point, you probably have two questions left.

One, you probably want to know how to put this in your nickname. It's simple, use any format code you want inside the nickname-entry box. Don't forget to restart to see changes, and if you leave the closing brackets off it will auto-color your text to the same color in chat. You sadly cannot change the fact that the second bracket will be coloured or the fact that the first cannot, but nobody really cares anyways.

Two, all of these codes mean I can't #hashtagyoloswag in chat? No, hashtags work fine in chat, but you have to use what is known as an "Escape Character". This allows you to bypass reading the hash as script. For Wargame, the escape is "\". So, you have to type it as \#YoloSwag.
There is one last trick of the escape character. Say you are poland, and have to write a sentence including flags with no space. #POLwordswords won't render the flag, but to solve this you simply use #POL\wordswordswords. Everything immediately behind the escape is marked 'Do-Not-Read' essentially. Of course, as you probably figured out, this works with colours - as long as the escape character is in the brackets (or after the number, if you're using one of those colours) it will still only affect the stuff in front of it.

Don't spam the chat please!

Oh, and please rate this guide up and put this guide to your favourites to find it later.
With love, the three Amigos at [WARCHAT].
Troubleshooting/Q&A
Q: The flag/colour isn't showing up in my name!

A: Restart Wargame. If it still isn't working, ensure you're formatting it correctly, ie: #NOR#styleyellow{Fulmen Invicta
#red{^1CRIMEA DEFENDER

Q: Why aren't the symbols showing up in chat?

A: Ensure you're formatting properly, using a main or private (not lobby) chat server, and not using one of the "for ingame markers only" symbols.

Q: Why aren't there any other flags?

A: These are the flags that are used by the game. If you want the flag of your country, pray to MadMat that it'll be added in the next DLC (if it comes)

Q: I have a different question...

A: Post your questions to the comments section of this thread.

Q: Tovarisch Orel Comrade Polkovnik how to make white slavik tricolor Russia Putin flag of motherland?

A:
