Introduction (IMPORTANT READ)
Please read the sections below before using the guide as it contains important information.

You can support my work by visiting my blog that I posted the same guide here with better image quality and UI experience:
- Full guide: https://www.soloplayguide.com/games/onimusha-2-samurai-s-destiny-remaster/guide

Scenarios
There are 4 support characters, each has their own scenario route. Which means that at some points during the game, the story deviates from the default route depending on your relationship with the support characters. And your relationship the support characters change depending on how you interact with them (either during the battles or giving items). There are 100 scenarios, each scenario accounts for 1% completion. So, I'll simplify the runs as follows:
  • Ekei Route
  • Magoichi Route
  • Kotaro Route
  • Oyu Route
I've also included an additional route below intended for doing S-Rank and also allow you to play all support characters in a single playthrough. Yeah, it is possible.
  • S-Rank Route (I recommend you playing this route last)
At the start of the game, you choose which route you wanna play, then stick to the sections indicating the route when using this guide. For example, you chose Kotaro Route, and when you see a section titled "Route: Kotaro" or "Route: Kotaro | Oyu" that means you have to go through it. On the other hand, if the section title is "Route: Magoichi", you can completely skip the section.

It is best that when using this guide, you stick to whatever route you choose from the beginning of the game to avoid confusion. After finishing all 4 routes, you'll get 100% scenarios achievement.

I will mark any sections that are specific to each route so that it's easy for you to follow and skip the sections when you are not running on other routes.

Friendship Points
Friendship Points are a measurement to determine what will happen later in the game; we call them scenarios. You raise friendship points by giving items to support characters. It can also be raised by helping support characters during the fights. Sometimes, the support characters will come to your aid, and if you fight alongside them until you kill all demons in the area, the friendship points will increase by a certain amount. In contrast, if you do not help them, you will heavily lose your friendship points.

IMPORTANT: For the guide to work accurately, you must kill all the demons when you fight with one of your allies. Usually, you'll know there are no more demons when you are able to talk to them, or they left the scene by themselves.

Gift Exchange
Gifting items to support characters is a very important aspect of the game because it will determine different scenarios and items you can acquire later based on the friendship points you build with the support characters. The gifting system itself is very complicated, so I spent hours studying and simplifying it so that you don't have to suffer.

Some gift items have a special effect, some can evolve, and some can be gifted along with other items to raise higher friendship points. So I'm not going into the details here. All you have to do is to follow the gift item pools I listed (DO NOT randomly give items unless I stated in the guide).

When giving an item to a support character, he/she will give you back one random item in a specific reward pool based on the item grade you give, or they simply rejected it if they are not interested in the item.

There are a total of 4 support characters, each character has 4 different pools of rewards. Some items when given at the right place and at the right time, you will always receive special rewards, which also means that they are missable. I'll guide you through when it's time to give a specific item to a specific character.

To simplify the gift exchange, I've created 3 trading options for you:
Full Trade
Essential Trade
No Trade
This option takes the most time to trade. In return, you'll get all the items available:
This option ignore the Artworks and only focus on getting essential items for the game.
You'll get the following items:
This option will get you through the same route, however, we will ignore whatever items we get when tradings.
  • Power Jewel x4
  • Magic Jewel x4
  • Secret Medicine x2
  • Super Magic Liquid x2
  • Fossilized Bone x3
  • Artwork #1 to #9
  • Power Jewel x4
  • Magic Jewel x4
  • Secret Medicine x2
  • Super Magic Liquid x2
  • Fossilized Bone x3
  • random items

The only downside to the "Full Trade" and "Essential" options is that you'll have to spend a lot of time trading, saving, and reloading the game until you get the desired items. However, I recommend you do the "Full Trade" option at least one time to collect all "Artworks" and complete the following achievements:
  • Top Condition: Used Power Jewels to increase your health to maximum.
  • Massive Mana Pool: Used Magic Jewels to increase your Magic Power to maximum.
  • Treasure Trove: Opened all of the puzzle boxes.
Once you obtain the achievements, you can simply go with the "No Trade" option.

Notes:
  • Items you receive back are random, except some special trades.
  • You can only receive each reward one time, except "Normal Bullet", "Fire Arrow", "Normal Arrow", and "Fortune Cookie".
  • I highly recommend you save the game before giving items so that you can restart when you do not receive the unique items in the reward pools.
Tips & Tricks
  • IMPORTANT: Critical Hit is always guaranteed a yellow soul unless you equip Red Necklace.
  • IMPORTANT: When absorbing red souls, always take advantage of the bonus. Try to absorb as many red souls as possible in one go. Usually, you want to kill quickly as many demons as possible then absorb all red souls all at once. This will exponentially increase your red souls bars.
  • Absorbing souls will trigger demons to attack you, this is crucial when you want to perform critical hits faster.
Before We Start
  • Choose one route and stick to it. DO NOT change route mid-game.
  • Choose the trading option "Full Trade", "Essential Trade", or "No Trade". If you choose the "No Trade" option, you can ignore any reward from trading results.
  • Always clean up the areas (kill all demons) when one of your allies joins the fight.
My Recommendation (Optional)
Here is my advice if you can't decide which route to start, I would choose:
  • 1st Run: Oyu Route + No Trade + Normal Mode (this gives you an overall idea of how the trading and scenarios work)
  • 2nd Run: Ekei Route + Full Trade + Hard Mode (to collect Artworks and max jewel, max enhancement achievements)
  • 3rd Run: Magoichi Route + No Trade + Ultimate Mode (to complete no jewel, no enhancement achievements)
  • 4th Run: Kotaro Route + No Trade + Normal Mode
  • 5th Run: S-Rank Route + Essential Trade + Normal/Hard/Ultimate Mode (complete S-Rank achievement)
In fact, you can skip the 4th Run since the "S-Rank Route" overlaps with "Kotaro Route". Hence, you can complete all achievements in 4 runs.
01. Yagyu village - 1st visit
The following scenarios occur automatically:
Scenario Prologue: Oda's Army Attacks
Scenario 1-1: The Massacre of Yagyu Village

Consult these maps for this part:

The game starts with Jubei in the Yagyu village, in front of a residence with a broken door. It is locked for now until you obtain the "Charity Orb". There is a Magic Mirror right next to you where you can save your game.

Now, stay on the main path and kill a bunch of demon soldiers, then proceed to the next area. After the bridge, pick up a map from the box:
  • Map: Yagyu Village Map"

Make your way to the next area. Three stepping stones will rise up, opening a new path to the cave. Let's pick up 2 items before we go inside.
  • Item: Herb - to your right, there is a box behind bamboos (cut them to access the box).
  • Gift Item: Frog - To your left, you'll see a frog hopping around.

There is a "Dragon Shrine" to your far left; however, you cannot use it right now. Hop on the stepping stones to enter the cave. Follow the passage until you reach a door, then enter the room.

Scenario 1-2: Meeting Takajo

Inside, you'll meet Jubei's mother, she'll explain about some backstory and grant you the ability to absorb souls. She also gives you the "Charity Orb".
  • Key Item: Charity Orb
  • File: Play Instructions
  • Item: Herb - Inside the treasure box.

Let's go back outside. While you are in the cave, you'll notice a Soul Lamp (it looks like a candle with purple light color), press "O" to absorb the souls.

Do not go to the "Dragon Shrine" yet. Remember the residence in the very beginning? We have more treasures to collect. Now run all the way back to the start and enter the house.

Upon entering the residence, you are welcomed by a group of demon soldiers.
  • Gift Item: Abacus - there are 2 white screens when you enter the house, break them to reveal the treasure box.
  • Item: Kaleidoscope - hop on to the hallway, you'll see another box to your right.
  • Item: Power Jewel - (Solution: Right Top, Bottom Right) At the end of the hallway is your first trick box. You should use it immediately to increase your max health bar unless you are completing no jewel achievement.

Now turn back and enter the living space, then enter the room on your left first. There is a scroll on the shelf and a hidden compartment.
  • File: Artwork #10 - On the shelf.
  • File: Four Guardians: Right - the hidden compartment is behind the hanging picture in the corner, cut through the picture to reveal the item.

Leave the room and go straight to the kitchen, there is one treasure box there.
  • Item: Fork

Enter another hallway, then open the door to the next area and exit through the open door. This area has 2 rooms and a backyard, each contains an item.
  • Gift Item: Oolong Tea - first room, in a box.
  • File: Four Guardians: Left - second room, in a box.
  • Gift Item: Wasabi - in the west corner of the backyard.

That's all the items we can collect. Let's go back to the cave entrance, then examine the "Dragon Shrine".
  • Equipment: Buraitou
02. Imasho Town - 1st visit (1)
Scenario 1-4: Meeting Oyu

After the cutscene, you'll appear in the middle of the town. Now look at the map below, I want you to remember these places because I'll be referring to their name as shown in the map.
I also include items available to collect for this section.

Once you regain control of Jubei, talk to the man wearing a hat and back basket on your left.
  • Gift Item: Sugar Candy

Enter the bar, then go to the backyard. There is a Magic Mirror, Magic Well, along with a treasure box.
  • Gift Item: Kiseru

Save your game at the Magic Mirror, then go upstairs for another treasure box.
  • Gift Item: Folding Fan

Exit the bar and go south to the marketplace and stable area for more items.
  • Gift Item: Globe - marketplace, inside a box near the merchant on your right side.
  • Gift Item: Ancient Documents - stable area, talk to the man wearing hat and basket next to the stable.
  • Gift Item: Tengu Mask - stable area, in the corner in front of the stable.

That's all in this area, let's go north to the blacksmith shop. Pick up a treasure box in front of the entrance.
  • Map: Imasho Town Map

Enter the shop. There is a switch to your left but don't pull it yet (when activated, it will lower the elevator on the other side allowing you to access a treasure box, however, it'll slowly rise up). So first, go right and destroy all wooden baskets blocking your path, then pick up an item in a box.
  • Gift Item: Cloth

Once you destroyed all the baskets, go back to the switch and pull it. Quickly run to the other side to catch up the elevator.
  • Equipment: Bow

Leave the shop and go to the gold mine via the mountain path.
  • Gift Item: Unique Mushrooms - on the second screen, there is a hidden item near the tree to your left.
  • Gift Item: Telescope - inside a treasure box, halfway to the gold mine.
  • Gift Item: Rhino Beetle - this is also a hidden item. Basically, you have to stay in a specific screen shown below for about 20 to 30 seconds until you see the beetle crawling on the tree.

That's all the items in this section. Continue and go up the stairs you'll meet the gold mine guard asking for a permit.

Important note: Item shop has items worth a total of 2200 gold + the permit fee 100 gold. So I highly recommend you farm gold here in the "Mountain Path" area (get in/out of the area to respawn the demons). This should take about 3 or 4 times to reach the total of 2300 gold.

Once you have enough gold, return to the town, enter the item shop, and buy everything there.

Note: Egg is a special gift item that can evolve over time (in game time). Buying it early allows it to evolve faster. The transformation goes from "egg" -> "chick" -> "chicken" -> "brown egg" -> "brown chick" -> "brown chicken" -> "golden egg" -> "golden chick" -> "golden chicken". The "Golden Chicken" can significantly boost friendship point when given as an item. However, it'll take about 7-hour playtime to obtain it (I won't be using it for trading).

After you finished shopping, leave the shop and enter the bar, walk toward a few steps to trigger another cutscene introducing 2 support characters, Ekei and Magoichi.

Scenario 1-5: Meeting Ekei and Magoichi

  • File: Giving Items

Now go talk to the guy standing in front of the side door at the back (this door leads to the item shop). He'll sell you the permit to the gold mine.
  • Key Item: Mountain Permit

Let's start our first trade. This is also a special trade because you'll always receive these items during "Imasho Town (First Visit)" only, and they are missable. To give an item, approach the character and press the "Start" button.
  • Item: Secret Medicine - Give "Vodka" to Ekei.
  • Item: Super Magic Liquid - Give "Ancient Documents" to Magoichi.
These are super rare items that fully restore your health and magic respectively.

Side Note: There is another support character, Kotaro. He is a special case because he has 3 separate introduction scenarios which require you to play 3 times to unlock the 3 of them. So here is how I set them up, First introduction scenario on Magoichi and Kotaro routes, the second introduction scenario on Ekei route, and the third introduction scenario on Oyu route. The downside of not meeting Kotaro early is that you will miss some trading items and a Yellow Necklace.
02. Imasho Town - 1st visit (2)
Route: Magoichi | Kotaro | S-Rank
Skip this section if you did not choose Magoichi or Kotaro routes.

To unlock Kotaro the first introduction scenario, you have to go to the blacksmith shop and talk to the 2 men chatting in front of the entrance. They mentioned about a jerk named Kotaro who is in the bar - 2F. Now return to the bar and go upstairs, a cutscene will occur introducing the character.

Scenario 1-6: Meeting Kotaro

After the cutscene, you'll appear in front of the bar. Go back inside, go to the second floor, you'll see 2 guys sitting with Kotaro.
  • Gift Item: Fur Skin - talking to the middle guy multiple times to get an item.
  • Item: Secret Medicine - after that, give "Globe" to Kotaro for another item.
  • Gift Item: History Book Vol. 9 - on the balcony, there is another guy sleeping on the floor. Talk to him a few times to receive another item.

Now go to the bar's backyard to save your game at the Magic Mirror.

Choosing Route #1

The upcoming scenario in the gold mine is determined by who has the highest friendship points. And friendship points increase or decrease by giving items and some actions throughout the game.

Note: If you chose "No Trade" for your this run, you can ignore the gift reward.

Route
Ekei
Give "Salt" to Ekei and make sure that you receive one of the follow rewards: "Persian Carpet", "Watermelon", or "Deer Antler"
Magoichi
Give "Salt" to Magoichi and make sure that you receive one of the follow rewards: "Wine", "Cameo", or "Wind Bell".
Kotaro
Give "Salt" to Kotaro and make sure that you receive one of the follow rewards: "Tea", "Raw Fish", "Fish Rice", or "Silver Coin".
Oyu
Give "Salt" to Ekei and make sure that you receive one of the follow rewards: "Persian Carpet", "Watermelon", or "Deer Antler".
S-Rank
Give "Salt" to Kotaro and make sure that you receive one of the follow rewards: "Tea", "Raw Fish", "Fish Rice", or "Silver Coin".

Our next adventure is the gold mine, so leave the bar and make your way to the mountain path, show the guard your permit, then pick up an item at the entrance.
  • Gift Item: History Book Vol. 4

Enter the gold mine.
03. Gold Mine
Consult this map for this part:

There is a Magic Mirror in the middle. By this point, you should have enough red souls (7 bars) to enhance your sword. At the Magic Mirror, choose "Enhance", then press "X" and hold on "Buraitou", then save the game.

Note: you'll see many wooden baskets inside the gold mine, they can be destroyed, and I recommend you to do so, because the next time you come back, you'll see many gold nuggets spawn at the basket locations. Also, don't forget to collect as many golds as possible each time you enter the gold mine because our next shopping requires even more gold.

Now take the left path first you'll find 2 items:
  • File: Demon Wall Scroll
  • Technique Manual: Buraitou's Secret - (Solution: Bottom Right, Left Bottom) this manual allow you to perform a special attack by pressing "Down + Up + Attack", then before the last hit, press "Attack" again for an additional move.

Leave the room, then take the other path. You'll see Ekei standing alone, ignore him and go a bit further to pick up a map:
  • Map: Gold Mine Map

Then proceed to the next area.

Scenario 2-1: Creepy Monsters

Here you'll encounter a new type of demons. Either kill them or leave them is up to you. Proceed to the next area.

The path is split, left (north) and right (south). Take the right path first. This time, it requires you to kill all demons in the area.

One of the following scenarios is triggered depending on what character route you chose and that he will help you fight the demons.

Route: Ekei | Oyu
Route: Magoichi
Scenario 2-2-3 Ekei Joins Jubei
Scenario 2-2-2: Magoichi Helps Jubei
Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
Scenario 2-2-1: Kotaro to the Rescue

Kill all the demons to trigger the follow-up scenario.

Route: Ekei | Oyu
Route: Magoichi
Scenario 2-3-3: A Kidnapped Girl (Ekei's Story)
Scenario 2-3-2: A Kidnapped Girl (Magoichi's Story)
Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
Scenario 2-3-1: Kotaro Jumps the Gun

Once finished, continue on the path to the next room. There are 2 items there:
  • File: The Five Oni Orbs - in the red box.
  • Equipment: Hyoujin-Yari - ice spear from the Dragon Shrine.

Backtrack to the T-junction, then go straight (north).

One of the following scenarios appears:

Route: Ekei | Magoichi
Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
Scenario 2-4-2 Dreams of Men
Scenario 2-4-1: Kotaro Won't Listen

Once the cutscene is finished, use your spear to destroy the Demon Wall, then continue to the next area.

I suggest you switch your weapon back to the lightning sword because it has a higher level than the spear and easier to wield ("Hold L2 + Right" to quick-change the weapon).
Pick up a medicine in the box and save your game at the Magic Mirror.
  • Item: Medicine

Examine the keyhole near the door, put the "Charity Orb" in and prepare for a boss fight.

Scenario 2-5: Meeting Ginghamphatts

Boss: Ginghamphatts - Battle 1

This boss is not hard when you know when to attack. There are several ways to deal with him.
  • You can run around him and hit from behind.
  • you can use Buraitou's Secret move to knock him back.
  • Or you can attack him after he finished his move.
Note: if you are low in health, one of the support characters who have the highest friendship points will come in to help you.

When he is defeated, absorb all the souls and collect gold, then proceed to the next area. You'll see a hole (with the lid closed) and an injured miner. DO NOT talk to the miner yet, or you'll be back to the town. Instead, keep moving forward to another area which is a room with 2 items and many gold nuggets on the ground.
  • Gift Item: Mirror
  • Technique Manual: Hyoujin-Yari's Secret - (Solution: Right Bottom, Top Right, Left Bottom, Bottom Right) similar to the sword, this allows you to use a secret move for your spear "Down + Up + Attack", then "Attack" again before the last hit.

Leave the room and talk to the miner.

Scenario 2-6: The Exhausted Miner
04. Imasho Town - 2nd visit (1)
Consult these maps:

Back to the Imasho Town, you'll automatically obtain "Red Ring", which is the key to the hole back in the gold mine where you rescued him.
  • Key Item: Red Ring

Route: Ekei
Skip this section if you did not choose Ekei Route.

Immediately after you obtained the Red Ring, walk toward the other side of the room; the camera will change the angle showing a young man side-sleeping. Talk to him to trigger another scenario.

Scenario 2-7: Meeting Kotaro 2

After the cutscene, go back upstairs and give "Globe" to Kotaro:
  • Item: Secret Medicine

Route: Ekei | Magoichi | Kotaro | S-Rank
Go downstairs and come back. You'll see him sitting next to a shirtless bald guy. Talk to him a few times for an item:
  • Gift Item: Pickaxe

Let's collect all new items first. Head outside to the street and talk to the lady in green walking slowly (sometimes she walks from the marketplace, sometimes from the blacksmith shop). Talk to her 3 times for a rare item:
  • Item: Secret Medicine

Go south to the stable area. There is a lady standing near the entrance saying something about a creepy man walking back and forth in front of her. Talk to the creep 3 times for an item:
  • Gift Item: Bouquet - this bunch of flowers can evolve over time becoming "Wilted Flowers".
  • Gift Item: History Book Vol. 2 - Talk to the lady in yellows 3 times.
  • Item: Magic Jewel - then there is a shirtless bald guy sitting in front of the stable. Talk to him 3 times for a jewel. Use it immediately to increase magic bar unless you are completing no jewel achievement.

That's all for the new items. Now, there are 3 optional mini quests you can partake for some goodies, but it requires some gift exchange to trigger them.

Cantaloupe Side Quest (Optional)

Requirement: Meet Kotaro before this side quest.

Note: You won't be able to complete this quest if you play the Oyu Route, but we still have to do it anyway.

Go inside the item shop, then talk to a man standing near a group of people chatting. He'll give you "Chalk" in hope that you can trade it for "Cantaloupe" for him.

Then go back to the bar (you can use the side door in the item shop to quickly enter the bar) and do the following trades

1. Give "Chalk" to Ekei, well as expected, he is unhappy but still accepts anyway, and will give you "Tale of the Heike".
2. Take the "Tale of the Heike" and give it to Magoichi. You'll always receive "Emblem".
Skip 2 steps below if you play on Oyu Route.
3. Take the "Emblem", go upstairs and give it to Kotaro for "Canteloupe".
4. Finally, take the "Canteloupe" back to the quest giver in the item shop.

Now save your game in the bar's backyard.

Magoichi Side Quest (Optional)

Requirement: Magoichi has the highest friendship points.

Note: if you play Magoichi route (you gave "Salt" to him in the Imasho first visit) then the quest giver is already showed up. But for the shake of consistency, we'll give him one more item.

To activate this quest:
  • Approach Magoichi and give him "Cloth", make sure that you receive one of the following item "Wine", "Cameo", or "Wind Bell" (you can ignore the reward if you chose "No Trade"). Restart the game if you receive anything else unless you don't care about item tradings.
  • Leave the bar and re-enter.
  • You'll see a new person standing behind Magoichi. Talk to him, he'll offer you a map to find "Niter" for 50 golds (There are 3 "Niter" in gold mine, and you have to buy this map to be able to pick them up).

  • Map: Map of Niter - this map can be accessed from Inventory -> Books -> Pictures. It is not in the Maps menu, though.
Scenario 2-8: The Map to Niter

*** Save your game!

Gold Mine

Let's go back to the gold mine to collect new items and farm for gold.

Tips: You can re-enter gold mine as many times as needed to respawn the gold nuggets and enemies. One trip into the gold mine should be enough for 5200 golds. If not, just re-enter the gold mine again.

Achievement: Dig Dog
At the gold mine entrance area, you should see a dog wandering around. Your goal is to pet the dog 5 times. To do this, you have to stand in front of the dog, then press "O" (absorb soul action, this gesture is like petting a dog). If done right, the dog will stop, bark, raise its head, and be wagging its tail. Do this a few times until it walks to the other side, then follow it and press "X" to pick up the coin where it's digging.
  • Gift Item: Gold Coin

Once you enter the gold mine, talk to the miner who is walking around for 2 times:
  • Gift Item: Dice

Take the right path. Ignore Magoichi and go to the next area until you reach the split path. If you have met Kotaro before, you'll see Kotaro struggling fighting demons, so you should help him kill all the demons until he left.

At the split path, turn right. Go all the way to the Dragon Shrine room, then pick up your first "Niter" near Ekei (just ignore him).
  • Gift Item: Niter - left wall near Ekei.

Retrace to the split path, this time go straight until you reach the Magic Mirror, then pick up another "Niter" on the left side of mirror.
  • Gift Item: Niter - near the Magic Mirror, to the left.
04. Imasho Town - 2nd visit (2)
Proceed to the boss room. Here, you'll find Magoichi fighting many spikey demons, they drop high amount of gold though, so it's a good place to farm both gold and souls from them. Make sure that you clean up the room before leaving Magoichi.

Once you killed them all, keep going until you reach the dead end where you'll find many gold nuggets on the ground and the last "Niter".\
  • Gift Item: Niter - on the of debris to your right.

Now check your inventory to see whether you have 5200 golds or not. Re-enter the gold mine if needed. Then return to the town -> item shop and buy everything there.

*** Save your game at the bar's backyard.

Next, we'll activate Ekei's side quest.

Ekei Side Quest (Optional)

Requirement: Ekei has the highest friendship points.

To activate this side quest:
  • Give him "Fudo Leg Guard" you just bought from the store, make sure that you receive either "Buraitou Vol. 2" or "Hyoujin-Yari Vol. 2". Restart the game if you receive anything else.
  • Leave the bar and re-enter.
  • Talk to Ekei, he'll mention about a woman pickpocket who stole his belongings.

Scenario 2-9: Searching for the Pickpocket

Now the quest is activated, let's catch the thief by going to the following locations:

1. 1st location: hide near the stable.
2. 2nd location: bar - 2F, balcony.
3. 3rd location: In the blacksmith shop.
4. 4th location: she goes back to the first location, near the stable.

She'll finally give up and give you back the item she stole:
  • Gift Item: Broken Bell

Choosing Route #2

Just like the first visit. Whatever happens next will be determined by friendship points you have with each support character.

Route
Ekei
You don't need to give anything to him since he already has the highest friendship at this point. Optionally, you can give "Broken Bell" to him, he'll repay you with either "Buraitou Vol. 2" or "Hyoujin-Yari Vol. 2".
Magoichi
Give "Western Greaves" to Magoichi and make sure that you receive either "Buraitou Vol. 2" or "Hyoujin-Yari Vol. 2". Optionally, you can give the 3 "Niter" to him, in return he'll give you back "Burst Bullets x5".
Kotaro
Give "Keimyo Hachimaki" to Kotaro and make sure that you receive either "Buraitou Vol. 2" or "Hyoujin-Yari Vol. 2".
Oyu
You don't need to give anything to anyone.
S-Rank
Give "Keimyo Hachimaki" to Kotaro and make sure that you receive either "Buraitou Vol. 2" or "Hyoujin-Yari Vol. 2".

Restart if needed.

Now head back to the gold mine where you rescued the miner. Put the "Red Ring" on the lid to open the hole. Don't forget to collect gold nuggets in the room beyond the hole.

05. Gifu Castle Keep Tower - 1st visit (1)
Consult this map for this part:

This is an underground entrance to the Gifu Castle. You'll have to kill the 2 giants before you can continue.

The next area has a spiral staircase and 2 boxes, but you can only open the red one, only Ekei can open the other one.
  • Gift Item: Crystal Ball

Take the stairs to the surface. If you have played Onimusha Warlord, you probably recognize this castle and the layout remains the same. Now go to a door at the opposite side of where you just came out.

One of the following scenarios is triggered depending on your route:

Route: Ekei | Magoichi | Oyu
Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
Scenario 2-10-2: Magoichi Talks about Ekei
Scenario 2-10-1: Kotaro's Apology

After the cutscene, go inside the castle. There are archer demons on the second floor, the only way to reach them is using bow, or you can simply ignore them. Next, pick up the 2 treasure boxes:
  • Map: Gifu Castle Keep Tower Map
  • Gift Item: Incense

Enter the side door first on your left. In the room, you'll find a Magic well and a number-puzzle lockbox.
  • Key Item: Bronze Mask (Right) - (Solution: 1st row: 6-1-8, 2nd row: 7-5-3, 3rd row: 2-9-4)

Leave the room and enter the main door. Here, Ekei is struggling with the demons, so you should help him. Once you cleared the area, open the box:
  • Item: Herb

Enter the red door (the smaller door is locked). Here you'll see another trick box:
  • Item: Power Jewel - (Solution: Bottom Right, Right Top, Top Left) use it immediately unless if are completing no jewel achievement.

Continue to the next area. Ignore the green-sealed door for now and save your game at the Magic Mirror. Then, enter the next door (after the Magic Mirror).

There is a treasure box containing a history book:
  • Gift Item: History Book Vol. 1

Enter the door under the staircase next to the treasure box. Inside, you'll find a ghost who asks you to bring him the "Purifying Charm". Then, there is a yellow book on the shelf behind the ghost.
  • File: The Demon's History

Leave the room and take the staircase to the second floor. In this room, either Ekei or Kotaro will join the fight depending on the route you chose.

Route: Ekei | Magoichi | Oyu
Scenario 2-11: The Miner's Daughter is Found

Now take the door to your left. Then follow the path and enter the other door. Inside, you'll find a treasure box and the "Purifying Charm".
  • Item: Herb
  • Key Item: Purify Charm

Leave the room. You'll see Magoichi is fighting demons on the first floor. You cannot do much so just ignore him and backtrack to the ghost room, then use the "Purifying Charm" to release his soul. In return, he'll drop another key item:
  • Key Item: Bronze Mask (Left)

Go back to the green-sealed door and use both "Bronze Mask" to unlock the door.

Scenario 3-1: Meeting Tokichiro

Once you regained control, kill the 2 demons to remove the barriers, then pick up a treasure box in front of the skeleton wall:
  • Item: Medicine

Proceed to the next room and prepare for a boss fight.

Scenario 3-2: Gogandantess Battle 1
05. Gifu Castle Keep Tower - 1st visit (2)
Boss: Gogandantess - Battle 1

It is not much of a fight, you just have to keep hitting him until Oyu shows up and saves you. There are 2 ways to deal with him.
1. Use your sword and keep hitting him until you both cross swords.
2. I prefer this method because it is less risky by using the spear secret move "Down + Up + Attack", then "Attack". Most of the time, he'll be unable to retaliate because he'll be busy blocking your attacks.

Scenario 3-3: Oyu Assists Jubei

Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
Scenario 3-4: Kotaro Meets Oyu
This scenario happens automatically after scenario 3-3.

Follow the path and go up the ladder, then talk to Oyu she'll give you the "Faith Orb" and 3 scenarios happen consecutively:
  • Key Item: Faith Orb

Scenario 3-5: Borrowing the Faith Orb
Scenario 3-6: Ride an Iron Horse
Scenario 3-7: Obtaining the Faith Orb
06. Imasho Town - 3rd visit
You are back to Imasho town for the third time. Just walk a bit further and another scenario occurs.

One of the following sub scenarios will trigger depending on your route. You'll notice the cutscenes are almost identical, however, the initial dialogue is different.

Route: Oyu
Route: Ekei | Magoichi | Kotaro | S-Rank
Scenario 3-8-2: Meeting Kotaro 3
Scenario 3-8-1: Kotaro's Warning about Oyu

Consult these maps for this part:

Just like before, we'll collect new items in the town first. Exit the stable in to the marketplace.
  • Gift Item: Comb - then talk to the first merchant selling combs. He is a bit stubborn though, so you need to talk to him 5 or 6 times until he gives you an item.
  • Gift Item: Taizo Mandala - while in the marketplace, look for a drunken man wearing a hat, talk to him 3 times (if you don't see him, just wait a few seconds he'll show up either from the stable or from the town).
  • Gift Item: Glass - exit the marketplace into town, then turn back and re-enter the stable. You'll see a lot of people there, they come to visit the metal horse. Talk to the guy carrying a back basket in front of the metal horse.

Leave the stable, go back to the bar, and talk to the guy standing at the back he'll sell you a bottle of beer for 200 golds.
  • Gift Item: Black Beer

Route: Ekei | Magoichi | Kotaro | S-Rank
Using the side door to enter the item shop, then talk to the man who gave you the Cantaloupe quest previously to claim your reward:
  • Equipment: Orange Necklace - this necklace, when equipped, allows Jubei to see hidden red souls. This will come in handy for our next stop, gold mine.

Go to "Inventory -> Equip -> Armor" then equip the "Orange Necklace", you just got.

Note: There is no achievement for collecting all red souls, so I personally ignore this necklace as some of the locations are just too far to go back and forth. So, it's really up to you whether you use it to collect the red souls or not.

*** From here on, when you see my note "Hidden Red Souls #", you have to equip Orange Necklace in order to see and absorb the hidden souls.

Note: you won't be able to obtain the Orange Necklace in Oyu route using this guide, so ignore any Orange Necklace's notes.

Now the item shop has a new batch of items, which has a total value of 9600 golds. Well, like before, we'll get in and out of the gold mine until we have enough cash for all the items in the shop.

Gold Mine (Optional)
Note: There are new types of demons in the gold mine, and they are much stronger than before. Then there are green small demons hopping around and can fly like a helicopter, they drop 500 gold nuggets occasionally.

Hidden Red Souls #1: In front of the gold mine entrance, near the guard's station.

Inside the gold mine has 2 items for this visit:
  • Gift Item: Loaded Dice - Talk to the guy who gave you "Dice" last time again 3 times, he'll give another dice.
  • Item: Medicine - Talk the right to the next and talk to the miner who is digging gold for a few times.

And there are 3 hidden red souls in the gold mine:
  • Hidden Red Souls #2: Gold mine entrance, in front of the left path.
  • Hidden Red Souls #3: Second area before the split path, above the exit.
  • Hidden Red Souls #4: Northeast dead-end, go pass the boss room, after the hole. Note: There are robot workers in the boss room, they drop 300 to 400 gold nuggets if you can kill them, they are a bit hard to deal with though. The best way to deal with them is to charge your attack twice (you should have either "Buraitou Vol. 2" or "Hyoujin-Yari Vol. 2" that allow you to charge the respective weapon by holding "R2")

Once you have enough gold (9600), return to the town, item shop, and buy everything they've got. Then, talk to the shop owner again to obtain a necklace.
  • Equipment: White Necklace - when equipped, Jubei will gradually restore HP while stand still.

Note: you can only equip one necklace at a time.

At this point, you can trade items to all 4 support characters, including Oyu who is standing on the balcony, bar - 2F. When you talk or give an item to any one of them, they'll say something about a mysterious lady at the marketplace.

Route: Oyu
Because this is your first time meeting Kotaro, let's give him "Globe", he is in the bar - 2F.
  • Item: Secret Medicine

*** SAVE YOUR GAME!!

Before we start, let's do one special trade with Oyu first, go to the balcony, bar - 2F, and give the following items to her in this order "Comb" -> "Mirror".
  • Item: Super Magic Liquid

Make sure that when giving out "Mirror", you'll receive one of the following items "Power Jewel", "Magic Jewel", or "Sake from Kaga" unless you wanna skip gift exchange.

Achievement: Serious Synergy
you'll obtain this achievement when you give 2 items one after another that goes well together. In this case, "Comb" + "Mirror".

Just like other characters, first time giving "Comb" to Oyu will always result in "Super Magic Liquid". When giving out "Mirror", make sure that you receive one of the following items "Power Jewel", "Magic Jewel", or "Sake from Kaga" unless you choose "No Trade" option. Otherwise, reload the game and do it again.

*** SAVE YOUR GAME!!
07. Gift Exchange (1)
This is probably the most important part of the game. It's finally time for us to collect all item rewards from all the characters here.

Item trading takes time and can be annoying with the save/reload, that's why I provide 3 options. Since the "Artworks" collection doesn't have its own achievement, you can either choose to do "Full Trade" or "Essential Trade" one time. Next runs, you can skip the entire trading sections to "Technique Book Trades". However, if you are doing S-Rank, you must choose either "Full Trade" or "Essential Trade".

Full Trade
Essential Trade
No Trade
This option takes the most time to trade, in return, you'll get the all the items available:
This option ignore the Artworks and only focus on getting essential items for the game.
You'll get the following items:

Technique Book Trades

These special trades are not guaranteed. However, the game always prioritizes giving out the books before other items. After you obtain all 6 books, they will start giving out reward in Pool A which includes "Medicine" or "Normal Bullets x5". We'll obtain the other 2 books "Senpumaru Vol. 3" and "Dokoutsui Vol. 3" later in the game.

Note: you've already given 1 or 2 items below based on what route you chose in "Imasho Town (Second Visit)".

08. Yagyu village - 2nd visit
Go to the marketplace and talk to the mysterious lady with an umbrella.

Scenario 4-1: Meeting Jujudormah

You'll appear right in front of the Yagyu residence.

Consult this map for this part:

Hidden Red Souls #5: Right above your head, in front of the Yagyu residence.

Make your way to the cave where you met Jubei's mother. Halfway through at the bridge, one of the 4 scenarios will be triggered depending on your route and make sure you kill all the demons.

Route: Ekei
Route: Magoichi
Scenario 4-2-4 Ekei Joins Jubei 2
Scenario 4-2-3: Magoichi Helps Jubei 2
Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
Route: Oyu
Scenario 4-2-2: Kotaro to the Rescue 2
Scenario 4-2-1: Oyu Joins the Fray

Kill all the demons before you exit.

Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
A very short follow-up scenario is triggered when you exit the area.
Scenario 4-3-3: Kotaro Spies on Oyu

Hidden Red Souls #6: On top of the Dragon Shrine at the pond area, cave entrance.

Once you reach Jubei's mother (inside the cave), 3 consecutive scenarios appear:
Scenario 4-4: Takajo's End in her Son's Arms
Scenario 4-5: Mother & Father
Scenario 4-6: The Oath

Pick up "Ring of Takajo" on the ground:
  • Key Item: Ring of Takajo

Exit the cave.

Route: Magoichi
Do the following steps:
  1. Talk to Magoichi in front of the lake, he'll give you a Saiga Bomb.
  2. Use the bomb at the cracked rock near the Lightning Dragon Shrine to your left to reveal a treasure box.
  3. Open the treasure box for the Green Necklace. This necklace allows you to see hidden demon chests. Sadly, all the chests contain either medicine, magic liquid, or bullets and no especial items.
  4. Equip the necklace immediately, you'll see your first hidden chest in front of you. From here on, I'll put a note "Hidden Chest #" to mark the location where you have to wear the necklace to the see hidden chests.

Scenario 5-1: Magoichi's Bomb

  • Key Item: Saiga Bomb
  • Equipment: Green Necklace
  • Hidden Chest #1: Secret Medicine - In front of the Lightning Dragon Shrine.

Then head back to the Yagyu residence (the house with the broken door at the very beginning). Go to the room with the fire pit behind the kitchen.

Route: Kotaro | Oyu | S-Rank
As soon as you enter the room, another Oyu scenario appears:
Scenario 5-2: Jubei and Oyu Talk by the Fireside

Hidden Red Souls #7: There is another "Hidden Red Souls" inside the second room in the backyard.

Now put the "Ring of Takajo" into the orange mechanical box. it'll prompt you to solve a puzzle. The solution is from the 2 pieces of the "Four Guardians" you collected very early in the game.
  • Solution: top-black, bottom-red, left-white, right-blue

Go down the ladder.

This underground passage doesn't have anything, so keep going until you narrowly miss a spiked-pit trap. Jump over to the other side, then press "Up" to climb up.

Next, cut the ropes blocking your path. This triggers a spinning blade trap. Immediately turn around and jump over the pit and hang there until the blades pass overhead, climb up, jump back to continue to the next area.
09. Fog Valley (1)
Consult this map for this part:

Save your game at Magic Mirror right in front of the cave entrance, then follow the path, climb up the first ladder, skip the green seal, climb up the second ladder, then the third ladder.

Here at the bridge, either Oyu, Magoichi, or Ekei will show up to help you if she/he has the highest friendship points, so you should stay and clean up the area before leaving her.

Hidden Red Souls #8: At the end of the skybridge

Continue down the stairs, then open two treasure boxes and examine the Dragon Shrine for a new weapon, wind blades.
  • Item: Herb - at the end of the stairs
  • Map: Fog Valley Map - near the Dragon Shrine
  • Equipment: Senpumaru - Wind Dragon Shrine

Hidden Red Souls #9: Another Hidden Red Souls on top of the cliff near the Dragon Shrine.

Go back to the green seal you skipped early, then use the wind blades to destroy it for an item:
  • Key Item: Nobunaga's Knowledge

Go back to the Dragon Shrine. While at the skybridge area, Oyu will help you fight (if you have high friendship points with her), so make sure to kill all the demons here, then talk to her for an item:
  • Item: Herb

Before we continue, save your game at the Magic Mirror near the Dragon Shrine. I highly recommend you enhance the wind blades to level 2 if you have enough red souls.

Once done, enter the misty forest.

Route: Ekei | Magoich | Oyu
Note: The thing about this forest is that you cannot get out unless you kill these bulbous hummingbird demons (it is called Kechacha) flying around at the forks. It's hard to see because its color is kind of blended with the forest. It'll disappear if you take too long to kill it.

Now move forward until you see the first one who is alone, so it's easy to kill it with normal attacks. The second and third ones have demons protecting them. So the best way to eliminate them is to use wind blades magic.

Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
You will be lost in the forest, it doesn't matter a left or right path you take. So keep going forward until a scenario is triggered.
Scenario 5-3: Kotaro's Friendship
You are now taking control over Kotaro.
  • Key Item: Blue Soul Bracelet - open the silver box. It allows you to absorb souls.
  • Key Item: Red Wedge - Follow the path and jump over the first ladder. Right in front of the second ladder.

After picking up the item, jump over the second and third ladders and continue to the skybridge.
Here, you'll see a glowing red light. Step on it, open your inventory -> item, then use the "Red Wedge" to open a portal to the Red Phantom Realm.

This Phantom Realm has only 5 floors, and enemies are relatively easy to deal with. You'll obtain 4 items completing this dungeon:
  • Item: Medincine - 3rd floor
  • Equipment: Roga Kunai - 5th floor. Equip this on Kotaro immediately, go to "Inventory -> Equip"
  • Key Item: Blue Wedge - 5th floor. This is a key to another Phantom Realm to get another "Stone Peg".
  • Key Item: Red Stone Peg - 5th floor. A key item to dispel the misty forest illusion.

Exit, then continue to the Dragon Shrine area and save your game at the Magic Mirror.
You probably noticed a broken ladder next to the Dragon Shrine. Kotaro can actually jump over there to a new area.

Follow the path, pick up Kotaro's armor at the pier:
  • Equipment: Stealth Costume - Equip this armor on Kotaro immediately, go to "Inventory -> Equip -> Armor".

Exit to the next area you'll find it very bushy. To your right is a dead end with a blue seal, so you should go straight and use the stairs to go down. There is a Magic Mirror in front of the swamp, and a totem pole next to it.

Cross the swamp and enter the gate to the north. You'll immediately see another glowing light to your right. Use the "Blue Wedge" on the light to open another portal to the Blue Phantom Realm.

This realm also has 5 floors, but the enemies are a bit stronger than the previous one. On the 5th floor. You'll have to fight a red giant bull demon, and the best way to deal with it is to charge your weapon 3 times before attacking (charged attack can knock back enemies preventing them from counter-attack).
  • Item: Medicine - 3rd floor
  • Key Item: Blue Stone Peg - 5th floor

Once completed, exit the Phantom Realm and go back to the totem pole near the Magic Mirror. Insert both of them into the pole, then enter the forest and go straight to the next area.

Scenario 5-4: Kotaro Saves Jubei

Back to Jubei. Proceed to the next area and prepare for a boss fight.

Scenario 5-5: Jujudormah and Ginghamphatts
09. Fog Valley (2)
Boss: Ginghamphatts - Battle 2
This time he has a new trick. He'll jump into the forest and perform rush attacks back and forth. So you have 2 options here, either wait until he stops or interrupt him using Magic (press the triangle button).
When facing him head on, try the following strategies:
  • charge your lightning sword 3 times (hold R2) before attacking him (keep in mind though your charge will reset if you press "L1" to block an attack)
  • or a simple strategy like hit, block, and run.
Note: One of your allies will come in to help you fight if your health is too low.

You'll obtain another Nobunaga statue after defeating the boss:
  • Key Item: Nobunaga's Reign

Continue to the next area.

Route: Ekei | Magoichi
The following scenario is triggered after leaving the misty forest.
Scenario 5-6: Reasons to Fight

IMPORTANT: Save your game at the Magic Mirror right next to you, then go east (your left side), you'll see stairs that go up to the hill.

Route: Oyu
You'll see Oyu standing there waiting for you. Talk to her for a mini-game, Fencing Lesson. Basically, she'll ask you to defend her attacks, then you both switch roles which you attack and she defends.
Scenario 5-7-1: Oyu's Fencing Lessons
Strategy:
  • Phase one "Oyu attacks, Jubei defends": Hold and release "L1" every half a second to trick her into attacking you because if you keep holding "L1", she'll use a charge attack. If you see her sword is growing, drop your defense and run away from her.
  • Phase two "Jubei attack, Oyu defends": She'll keep her defense up, all you have to do is to attack her every one second and stop when she falls. If you attack too fast, you won't have time to watch out for the falling animation and will accidentally hit her.
  • Repeat the 2 phases one more time.
If you have done this right, talk to Oyu again after the training to receive a tech manual:
  • Technique Manual: Senpumaru Vol. 3

Reload the game if you fail to get the item.

Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
You'll see Kotaro standing there at the stairs, so talk to him to activate a mini side quest which he mentioned a missing pigeon. Simply go south to the river area, you'll notice a giant from afar. There is a short cutscene showing it eating the poor pigeon when you approach. Now revenge the pigeon and pick up a shiny object on the ground:
Scenario 5-7-2: Kotaro's Pigeon
  • Gift Item: Tube ofr Pigeon Leg

Go back and give "Tube for Pigeon Leg" to Kotaro to complete the quest.
  • Item: Senpumaru Vol. 3

Route: Ekei
Ekei will help you clear in this area if he has the highest friendship points. After you kill all demons, talk to him again for a medicine:
  • Item: Medicine

Next, go east to the dead end (your right) you'll see a blue seal, so use your lightning sword to destroy it for the last Nobunaga statue.
  • Key Item: Nobunaga's Dignity

Then head south to the river area, then clean up the area first by killing all the fish demons.

Route: Magoichi
Magoichi will come to help in this area too, so talk to him afterward to receive a medicine:
  • Item: Medicine

Achievement: Who Needs Rods?
Important Note: The fish spawn is not guaranteed, also, the fish can be killed if you use AoE magic like ice spear, wind blades, or Rekka-Ken. So reloading the game is needed if you don't see the fish.
In a specific screen below where it shows the river flowing on the right and a silver box on top, stand near the fish and hit "Attack" to stab the fish:
  • Gift Item: River Fish

Hidden Red Souls #10: Go a bit further down stream, you'll see the hidden red soul.

Backtrack to the Magic Mirror and save your game.

Route: Magoichi
Walk toward the swamp a little bit, a new scenario is triggered.
Scenario 5-8: Magoichi Fires a Cannon
While Magoichi is preparing his canon to shoot the fish nest, all you have to do is to protect him without letting him taking any hit from the fish demons. If successful, talk to him again to get a tech book:
  • Techinque Manual: Senpumaru Vol. 3

Then pick up jewels from the fish nest that just exploded:
  • Item: Power Jewel
  • Item: Magic Jewel

Then cross the swamp and enter the gate. At the gate, turn left for one more item before entering:
  • Technique Manual: Senpumaru's Secret - (Solution: Left Bottom, Middle Right) Press "Down + Up + Attack", then "Attack" to perform the technique.

Enter the building. On the screen, you'll be asked to place 3 Nobunaga's statues in the correct order. But first, I want you to open your "Inventory -> Items" and try to remember the shape of the 3 Nobunaga's statues. When you are ready, activate the switch and place the statues in the order shown on the screen. (If you really struggle to remember the order, just take a video with your phone).

One of your allies will help you fight at the entrance. Make sure you clean up the demons before leaving.

Hidden Red Souls #11: There is a hidden red soul on the right side pond.

Open the door to go inside, there is a new demon called "Gerohone", it's mounted to the wall blocking your way.

Hidden Red Souls #12: Just above the "Gerohone" hidden behind its tentacle.

Kill the wall demon, then pick u
09. Fog Valley (3)
Boss: Jujudormah
The best weapon to go against this boss is your wind blades.
This boss has 2 phases
- Phase 1: In this phase, she'll keep running or teleporting away from you and shoot her magic from afar, so try to get close by running in a circle dodging her bullets. When close enough, hit her with your wind blades' secret move "Down + Up + Attack" (do not use the second move). However, she'll block your attacks after 1 or 2 hits, pause a bit until she lowers her guard, then repeats the secret moves. Keep in mind that if you still attack her while she is guarding, she'll eventually encounter the attack.
- Phase 2: In this phase, she'll keep chasing you and perform different attack moves, and she cannot be knocked back when hit. So, your only opening is after her attacks end, and you have about half a second to hit her.
  • Remember her attack animations below are crucial. The only one you should worry about is the thrust attack:
  • Normal attack: can block but break your guard, she swings her umbrella twice. If you are in the corner, you'll get hit by the second attack.
  • Slash: can block but break your guard. She performs a high-slash move with her umbrella.
  • Swinging blade: can easily block, she runs toward you and swings her blades multiple times.
  • Umbrella thrust: this move has 2 attacks, she thrusts her umbrella twice. If you block the first attack, you'll definitely get hit by the second attack, so dodging is the only way.
  • Shooting magic: can easily block, she steps back and shoots multiple bullets at once.
  • Hip attack: can block, but it'll break your guard. She launches her butt to attack you... lol.
Note: one of your allies will aid you if your health drops below 25%.

Scenario 5-9: Jujudormah's Goodbye Kiss

  • Key Item: Honesty Orb

When the cutscene is finished, press the switch (red light) on the wall to open a secret passage. In there, you'll find a treasure box:
  • Item: Herb

Walk a few steps further, the toxic gas is released in the passage, so just keep running to the end.

Hidden Red Souls #13: Mid-way through the passage has another hidden red soul.

Scenario 5-10: A Risky Jump

Once you regain control, pick up an item on the ground and open the treasure box:
  • Item: Secret Medicine - on the ground
  • File: On Onigashima - in the treasure box

Save the game, then examine the Waverider to continue.
10. Onigashima - 1st visit (1)
Two scenarios happen here:
Scenario 5-11: To Onigashima
Scenario 6-1: Gogandantess Battle 2

Boss: Gogandantess - Battle 2
You fought this boss before, and this time we'll still use the same strategy as before. Pull out your ice spear and perform the secret move until the battle ends. You cannot win this battle anyway.

Consult this map for this part:

Scenario 6-2: Takajo's Advice
  • Key Item: Red Soul Bracelet - obtained automatically.

Once you gained control of Oyu, walk around the Dragon Shrine to save your game at the Magic Mirror in the left corner. Then, go south down the ramp and use the stairs to go to the next area. Kill the 2 giant demons and open a treasure box in the corner. Then come back to the Earth Dragon Shrine and use this "Key Plate" to unlock the fence in front of the shrine.
  • Key Item: Key Plate

Both doors, west and east, also unlocked. Next, enter the east door (your right) first. Continue on this hallway to the next room that has an acid pond. This room has 3 items:
  • Map: Onigashima 1F Map - inside the treasure box.
  • File: The Oni's Super Weapon - on the shelf to your left
  • Item: Medicine - behind the giant statue

Enter the east door to another hallway, then enter the next room with the glass floor. Walk around and press L1 to block the spit attacks from the fish for a while until the red barrier disappears. Then use the ladder to go down.

Kill all the demons in this room, especially the one mounted on the wall to open a new path. Don't forget to pick up an item in the treasure box:
  • Equipment: Adarga - this is Oyu's shield, go to "Inventory -> Equip" to equip this new shield immediately.

Examine the light to enter a new area. Follow the bone bridge until you reach a Magic Mirror and pick up another item:
  • Equipment: Gladius - Oyu's best weapon, so equip it immediately.

Save your game and continue south.

In this room, you'll have to fight 2 giant demons. Strategy: stay away from the giant demons and charge your sword 3 times by holding "R2", once full, get close and attack, then repeat. Your charge attacks can knock back big demons, so it's very handy.

Scenario 6-3: Oyu Finds the Sacred Flute
  • Key Item: Sacred Flute - obtained after killing the red giant demon.

Return to the beach and give this flute to Jubei.

Scenario 6-4: Oyu Gives Jubei the Sacred Flute

You are now back to Jubei.

Hidden Red Souls #14: East side of the beach

Enter the door and use your wind blades magic to kill archer demons above the Dragon Shrine. Then examine the shrine to obtain a new weapon, earth hammer:
  • Equipment: Dokoutsui

Hidden Red Souls #15: Just above the Dragon Shrine.

Don't forget to enhance your weapons/armor and save the game.
Take the east door again until you reach the acid-pond room.

Route: Kotaro | Oyu | S-Rank
Scenario 6-6: Kotaro Uncovers Oyu's Secret

Hidden Red Souls #16: Above the acid pond. If you play Kotaro or Oyu routes, just turn around and enter this room again after the cutscene.

Route: Ekei
As soon as you enter the hallway, a new scenario is triggered. Then help Ekei kill all the demons and talk to Ekei's again for a tech book:
  • Technique Manual: Senpumaru Vol. 3
Scenario 6-7: Ekei's Weakness

Continue down the hallway (Magoichi may show up if you play his route, so make sure you slay all the demons until they left). When you reach the orange seal, use the hammer to destroy it. Inside this room, Oyu will always come to help you if you gave her all the equipment you bought from the item shop. Now kill all the demons in this area.
  • Item: Herb - talk to Oyu
  • Key Item: Circle Key - on the floor

There are 2 hidden red souls in this room.
Hidden Red Souls #17: Just above the wall demon.Hidden Red Souls #18: Inside the light wall, at the end of the Bridge of Darkness where Oyu picked up the "Sacred Flute".

And one hidden chest:

Hidden Chest #2: Item: Normal Bullet x10 - Inside the light wall, on the Bridge of Darkness.

Now use the ladder in the corner to go up. It's a shortcut to the acid room then exit
using the west door (your left).

Route: Oyu
In the hallway, you'll see Oyu standing in the corner, approach and talk to her to trigger another scenario. Their conversation is interrupted by the demons, so kill them all to finish the cutscene. After Oyu left, another demon busted from the wall revealing a treasure box:
  • Equipment: Red Necklace - this necklace increases the amount of Red Souls from demons, but other types of souls will no longer appear.
Scenario 6-8: Oyu's Hesitation

Exit to the main hall.
10. Onigashima - 1st visit (2)
Route: Ekei | Magoichi
The following scenario is automatically triggered.
Scenario 6-9: Tokichiro Sets a Trap for Magoichi

This time take the west door (save your game if needed).

Pick up a yellow book on the ground, then circle around to the other side and pick up another item near the elevator:
  • File: Elevator Instructions
  • Item: Magic Liquid
Once you picked up the items, activate the elevator, use your wind blades magic under the ceiling fan.

Take the elevator to the underground. Consult this map:

Open the treasure box:
  • Map: Onigashima Underground Map

Follow the path.

Hidden Red Souls #19: In the corner near the door.

Ignore the first ladder you see and enter the door. In this room, there is a trick near the ladder.
  • File: Tangegashima - (Solution: Top Left, Middle Top, Bottom Right)

And 2 factory robots unless you play on Ekei's route. You don't have to fight them, though.

Route: Ekei
Walk east toward the corner, and the scenario occurs automatically.
  • Equipment: Yellow Necklace - this necklace allows you to absorb yellow souls from demons directly without killing them.
Scenario 6-5: Ekei Finds a Hidden Room

Hidden Red Souls #20: In the west corner.

Use the ladder near the trick box, then circle around to the other side and enter the next door. There are 3 items here:
  • File: Guildenstern's Book - a blue book on the table right next to the door.
  • Key Item: Golden Key - (Solution: 1-15-14-4, 12-6-7-9, 8-10-11-5, 13-3-2-16) - examine number-puzzle safebox.
  • Gift Item: Unique Mushrooms - hidden behind the steam pipe near the safebox.

Backtrack to the ladder early you ignored, climb up, use the "Golden Key" to stop the moving crates. Then jump over the crates to the other side and use "Circle Key" to unlock the door.

Route: Kotaro | Oyu | S-Rank
Scenario 6-10: Kotaro Refuses to Open up to Oyu

Pick up the small book on the ground:
  • File: Tokichiro's Memo #1

Then examine the tablet in front of the statue. This puzzle is pretty easy, you just have to move the pieces from one side to another. Once finished, step on the portal to teleport to Gifu Castle.
11. Gifu Castle East Area - Part 1 (1)
Consult this map for this part:

Hidden Red Souls #21: Northwest corner of the roof.

Hidden Chest #3: "Normal Bullet x10" - In the broken fence.

Find the opening in the fence and go inside, circle around and use the ladder to go down. Inside the tower. There are 2 items in the tower:
  • Item: Talisman - (Solution: Right Top, Bottom Right, Left Bottom, Top Left, Left Top, Bottom Left) You'll immediately see the trick box on your right.
  • Key Item: Green Wedge - in a treasure box on the ground floor.

Hidden Red Souls #22: While going down the ramp, you'll also see the hidden red soul floating in midair.

Route: Ekei | S-Rank
When you try to open the door, the following scenario occurs:
Scenario 7-1: Ekei Does Jubei a Favor

Now you are in control of Ekei. Follow the path to the next area and open the silver treasure boxes along the way:
  • Key Item: Yellow Soul Bracelet - in the silver box

Follow the path, skip the right turn (the door is locked), then open the treasure box near the gate:
  • Key Item: Cherry Blossom Key

Enter the gate. You are now back to the courtyard of the Keep. Go down the spiral ramp to the bottom for an item:
  • Item: Medicine

Return to the surface and open the door on the opposite side to enter the Keep. In the hall, take the main door to the next room. Here, you don't have to kill the wall demon, just use your "Cherry Blossom Key" to unlock the small door to your right. Inside, pick up 5 items:
  • Equipment: Nioh Protector - Ekei's armor in the silver box, equip on Ekei immediately
  • Key Item: Crescent Key - in the red box
  • File: Humans as Food - the purple book
  • Item: Magic Jewel - (Solution: Middle Left, Left Top, Top Right), use it immediately.
  • File: Artwork #12 - on the floor

Retrace to the boardwalk where you skipped the right turn early. Use the "Crescent Key" to unlock the door at the right turn.

Continue on this path until you reach the waterfall on the mountain. Behind the waterfall has a silver box:
  • Equipment: Helberd - Ekei's best weapon in the silver box, so equip on him immediately.

Continue and enter the boathouse, save your game, then go downstairs.
Take the boat to the lake house on the opposite side, then enter the house. Inside, you'll have to kill a red giant demon for the final key.
  • Key Item: Snake Key - obtain automatically after killing the red giant.

Now that you got the key, return to Jubei and unlock the door for him.

Scenario 7-2: Ekei and Jubei at the Star Tower

Exit the tower and turn left.

Hidden Red Souls #23: You'll immediately see the hidden red soul on your right.

Use your lightning sword to destroy the seal. Inside the house has 2 files, pick them up then use the "Green Wedge" you just obtained on the green light to open a portal to the Green Phantom Realm.
  • File: Artwork #11 - on the table
  • File: Tokichiro's Diary - blue book on the floor

If you have played Onimusha Warlord, you are probably already familiar with the Phantom Realm. After clearing each floor, you have an option to go down further or exit. The enemies get stronger when you go deeper. This one has 10 floors and 3 items:
  • Item: Medicine - 8th floor
  • Item: Perfect Medicine - 10th floor
  • Equipment: Purple Necklace - 10th floor, this necklace reduces magic consumption when using magic.

Exit the house and go straight to the next area. Open the red box for a map:
  • Map: Gifu Castle East Area Map - you probably picked up if you played as Ekei early.

Exit to the outside.

Route: Magoichi
A new scenario occurs, and you'll automatically obtain a new weapon as well from Magoichi:
  • Equipment: Tri-barrel
Scenario 7-4: Magoichi Gives Jubei a Gun

Follow the boardwalk, ignore the right turn, then open the treasure box near the gate (one of your allies will help you in this area so make sure to kill all demons until they left).
  • Key Item: Cherry Blossom Key - you already picked this up if you played as Ekei early.

Enter the gate to the courtyard (Kotaro will join the fight in this area too if you play on his route).

Hidden Red Souls #24: Just above the underground spiral stairs.
Hidden Red Souls #25: Northwest corner above an inaccessible door.

Once you clean up the area, enter the Keep Tower.
11. Gifu Castle East Area - Part 1 (2)
Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
This is another mini side quest where you have to kill all demons without taking damage from the Fuma Bombs. Basically, you just have to run away from the bombs while killing demons. Restart the game if you did not get the tech manual.
  • Technique Manual: Dokoutsui Vol. 3
Scenario 7-3: Kotaro Uses Fuma Bombs

Next, take the main door to the next room.

Skipped the small door on your right If you played as Ekei early, otherwise, use the "Cherry Blossom Key" to open it. Inside contains 4 items:
  • Key Item: Crescent Key - in the red box
  • File: Humans as Food - the purple book
  • Item: Magic Jewel - (Solution: Middle Left, Left Top, Top Right), use it immediately.
  • File: Artwork #12 - on the floor

Leave the room, then enter the red door.

Hidden Red Souls #26: Right in the top right corner.

Enter the next area to the hallway with the green-sealed door.

(Optional) I personally skip these red souls and hidden chests since they are too far to go back and forth. Behind the green-sealed door has 2 hidden red souls and 2 hidden chests:

Hidden Red Souls #27: Inside the green-seal door, behind the skeleton wall.
Hidden Red Souls #28: From #27, go all the way to where you got the iron horse.

Hidden Chest #4: Perfect Medicine - Inside the green-sealed door, in front of the skeleton wall.
Hidden Chest #5: Super Magic Liquid - From #4, it's on the way to where got the iron horse.

Backtrack to the hallway if you went to collect hidden souls or hidden chests. Continue on the hallway and enter the door after the Magic Mirror.

Hidden Chest #6: Special Magic Liquid - Inside the room beneath the staircase where you used "Purify Charm".

Take the staircase to 2F, then take the door on your left.

Hidden Red Souls #29: Keep Hall, 2F, to the east above the broken staircase (on your right side after the double door).

Then keep going until you see an orange seal. Use your earth hammer to destroy it.

Hidden Chest #7: Normal Bullet x10 - You'll also notice a hidden chest in this room.

Inside has 2 items:
  • Technique Manual: Dokoutsui's Secret - (Solution: Bottom Right, Right Bottom, Left Bottom, Middle Right, Middle Bottom, Top Right) inside the trick box. Just like other weapons "Down + Up + Attack", then "Attack" to perform the secret move.
  • Item: Medicine - in a regular treasure box

Backtrack to the boardwalk area, then take the right turn you skipped early. While in the courtyard on your way back, one of your allies (except Kotaro route) is fighting the demons, so you should them clean up the area before leaving.

Turn right, destroy the blue seal with your ice spear and enter the house. Inside, pick up an item in the box:
  • Gift Item: Gourd

Behind the large statue is a narrow path with a portal to the Demon Cave.
12. Demon Cave (1)
Consult this map for this part:

Save your game at the Magic Mirror, then pick up a treasure box in the left corner:
  • Item: Medicine

This cave is a loop; however, you cannot go from the east side yet. So, just head west to the next area.

Route: Magoichi | S-Rank
Scenario 7-5: Magoichi to the Rescue

You are now playing as Magoichi. One thing I noticed about Magoichi is that his first weapon is a lot better in combat than the other two. However, this is just my opinion, feel free to use whatever weapon that suits you well.

Now pick up a bracelet right next to you in the silver box:
  • Key Item: Green soul Bracelet - this bracelet allows you to absorb souls.

Hidden Chest #8: Normal Bullet x10 - Area next to where you fought the giant red demon above.

Continue on the loop until you reach a drawbridge. The lever is blocked by a wall demon, so you have to kill it to pull the lever to lower the bridge.

Cross the bridge to the next area. Here, you'll find a Magic Mirror and 2 boxes
  • Map: Demon Cave Map - in the red box
  • Equipment: Rasha Gloves - in the silver box. It's Magoichi's armor, so you should equip on him immediately.

Keep moving forward 2 more areas, you'll face a red giant bull demon and several minions. Unfortunately, you have to kill them all in order to continue. In the next 3 areas, you'll find a weapon for Magoichi and the key item that can revive Jubei.
  • Equipment: Flamethrower + Fuel - it's powerful, but it's gonna slow you down a lot.
  • Key Item: Great Powder Tube

Scenario 7-6: Magoichi Finds the Great Powder Tube

Backtrack to the Magic Mirror, then use the "Great Powder Tube" to revive the miner.
  • Item: Medicine

Save your game and backtrack to the drawbridge, a mysterious flying demon will steal the "Great Powder Tube" from you. It'll fly away if you take too long to kill it. But don't worry, you'll find it in the next area (west). However, it'll fly away again and again if you fail to kill it in a short period of time, so you have to re-enter the area repeatedly until you succeed.

Once you retrieve the tube back, return to Jubei and use the tube to revive the miners first. Miner on your left will you give a medicine and finally use the tube on Jubei.
  • Item: Medicine
Scenario 7-7: Magoichi Releases Jubei

Keep moving forward, passing through several areas. Ekei will show up to help if you play on his route, so make sure to kill all demons before leaving him.

Hidden Red Souls #30: West path of the Demon Cave loop.

Once the cutscene is over, enter the newly opened area for an item:
  • Equipment: Blue Necklace - this necklace allows you to absorb souls faster.
Scenario 7-8: Kotaro Finds a Hidden Door

Exit this dead end and continue on the loop.

Note: Many items along the way may have been picked up if you played as Magoichi early.

When you arrived at the drawbridge. Kill the wall demon that attached itself to the lever, then pull it down to lower the bridge.

Hidden Red Souls #31: At the end of the drawbridge.

Cross the bridge to the next area. There is a Magic Mirror, a memo, and a treasure box here:
  • File: Tokichiro's Memo #2 - on the ground (This file is not available if you play as Magoichi early)
  • Map: Demon Cave Map - in the treasure box

Save your game (important if you play Kotaro's route) and proceed to the next area.

Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
Scenario 7-9: Kotaro Explains How to Avoid Traps

This is just another mini-game where you have to follow in Kotaro's footsteps to avoid the trap. At the end of the demonstration, he'll ask if you remember it, answer "No" he'll repeat again. If you failed, you can either continue or reload the game to retry.

You'll receive random item such ash "Secret Medicine", "Magic Liquid", or "Herb" if you've done it perfectly. This can also be a tech book "Dokoutsui Vol. 3" if you failed to obtain it in Keep hall "Fuma Bomb" side quest.

Continue on the loop until you see many furnaces and the red giant demon gang. Stay far away from the furnaces because they can explode. Wait until those giants destroy them so that you have space for combat.

Continue and stay on the path until you see a treasure box:
  • Key Item: Great Powder Tube

Go a bit further, you'll see a green seal blocking the path.

Hidden Red Souls #32: On the right side of the green seal.

Now use the wind blades to destroy the seal, exit to the area. Here, pick up 2 items, then approach the petrified miner and use "Great Powder Tube" to revive him open the path.
  • Item: Herb - in a regular treasure box
  • Item: Power Jewel - (Solution: Left Bottom, Bottom Left, Right Bottom, Bottom Right, Left Top)
  • Item: Secret Medicine
12. Demon Cave (2)
Now you probably remember there are other petrified miners in the cave. If you haven't played as Magoichi, you probably want to revive them for some "Medicine". However, It is really up to you if you want to run for another loop to revive them and collect the rewards.
Revive Miners (Optional)
  • Item: Medicine - the miner is in the Magic Mirror area, south side of the cave.
  • Item: Medicine - the other 2 miners in the area close to the cave entrance.

There is another miner at the entrance, but he doesn't give anything.
Return to the cave entrance and use the portal to go back to Gifu Castle.
13. Gifu Castle East Area - Part 2
Leave the room, then turn right.

Consult this map for this part:

Route: Ekei | Magoichi
Scenario 7-10: Magoichi Tells the Truth

Just kill all the demons to finish the scenario.

Route: Kotaro | Oyu | S-Rank
You'll find Oyu or Kotaro is having trouble dealing with demons. Save them and clean up the area until he/she left the scene.

Hidden Red Souls #33: Just above the door.

Then follow the path up to the mountain and don't forget to absorb souls from the soul lamp in the next area.

Hidden Chest #9: Medicine - Near the mountain gate after the stairs.

In front of the mountain gate, destroy the stone lantern to reveal an object:
  • Item: Medicine

Enter the gate.

  • File: Book of Fortinbras - yellow book on the table
  • File: The Golden Evil Statue - Purple book on the chair

Enter the next room.

Hidden Red Souls #35: Just above the two petrified miners.

Now use the "Great Powder Tube" on the two miners. If you talk to the miner on the left again, he'll give you a medicine:
  • Item: Secret Medicine

Open the door, then examine the tablet for another puzzle. Just like the previous one, simply move the pieces from one side to another.

Once completed the puzzle, step on the portal to teleport back to Onigashima.
14. Onigashima - 2nd visit (1)
Onigashima Passages
Consult this map:

Hidden Red Souls #36: On the right side of the door.

Then pick up an item in front of the door.
  • Item: Special Magic Liquid

Enter the door to a new area. One of your allies will aid you in this hallway. As always, kill all the demons until they leave the scene.

In this hallway, you'll notice a door locked by demon fingers on your left. Use the 3 Fossilized Bones you obtained from the gift exchange section to unlock the door.
  • Equipment: Black Necklace - (Solution: Right Top, Bottom Right, Left Bottom, Middle Left)

This is one of the best necklaces you can have, it allows you to perform critical hit with a normal attack in exchange for a small amount of health.

Hidden Red Souls #37: Right above the hallway in the middle.

Hidden Chest #10: Secret Medicine - At the end of the hallway.

Follow the hallway to the next area. Here you can save your game at the Magic Mirror then pick up a map from the box:
  • Map: Onigashima Passages Map

Route: Magoichi
You may want to save your game first. Here, you'll see him standing in front of the door. Talk to him and answer "SWORD" to challenge him who can kill 20 demons first in the arena.
  • Technique Manual: Dokoutsui Vol. 3
Scenario 8-1: Magoichi's Pride

Reload the game if you failed. Proceed to the area once you get the Tech Book.

Proceed to the next area. this room looks like an arena. Oyu will join the fight if you have high enough friendship points with her (not available in Magoichi route).

IMPORTANT: If you are trying to get S-Rank but not very good at performing critical hit, I highly recommend you equip "Black Necklace" immediately, then clear this arena by get in/out until they stop spawning. Try to kill as many demons as possible using critical hit from here on.

Hidden Red Souls #38: Just above the statue in the center.

Once you clean up the room, move forward to the next area. If you look at the map, you'll find yourself in maze-like passages:

From the door, turn right, left, left:

  • Item: Magic Jewel - (Solution: Bottom Right, Top Right, Left Top, Bottom Left)
  • Item: Herb - Backtrack to the door, then turn left, left

Turn around, left, left, right, right to the next area. Here, you'll notice an elevator and a ceiling fan. Just like before, use your wind blades on the fan to power up the elevator, then step on it to go up.

Onigashima 1F
Consult this map:

This is one small messy room with 2 items:
  • Key Item: Scarlet Key - on the ground
  • File: Artwork #14 - on the table

Hidden Chest #12: Medicine - Inside this messy room.

Unlatch the door and exit the room.

Route: Oyu
Once you are in the hallway, turn left to the acid pond room you'll hear Oyu screaming. There are a bunch of demons in this room too, so clean them up and continue. Beyond the acid room, you'll find Oyu locked up on the wall.

You can free her by examining the switch (glowing red handle next to her); however, it'll drain your HP. So, heal up before pulling the switch. Note: you have to pull 3 times and you can heal up between each pull if your health is low. Once you release her, she'll give you a tech book.
  • Technique Manual: Dokoutsui Vol. 3
Scenario 8-2: A Risky Resolution

Go west to the main hall (where you picked up the earth hammer), save your game, then enter the west door next to the Magic Mirror.

Route: Ekei
Scenario 8-3: Ekei's Source of Vitality

You'll see Ekei sitting on the floor, so talk to him to trigger the event. Your goal is to find "Stamina Drink" for him. Take the elevator to the underground floor.

Onigashima Underground
Consult this map:

Be careful as there are many archers along the way. Now, go straight to the factory room, then use the ladder to the other door. Inside, you'll see a shiny object on the ground near the number-puzzle machine.
  • Gift Item: Stamina Drink

Take this drink back to Ekei and give him the "Stamina Drink" in exchange for a tech book.
  • Techinque Manual: Dokoutsui Vol. 3

Circle around the room and take the elevator to the underground. Go straight to the next room. Just be careful because many archer demons spawn in this room, then take the ladder and continue to the next area. Here you'll see a Magic well and a double door with a barrier, place the "Scarlet Key" on the door to remove it.

Achievement: Don't Even Need a Bigger Boat
This is an easy one. After you enter the door, you'll see a glass wall on your left, so wait until the shark shows up, then press "O" to absorb the souls from the shark.

Continue down the hallway.

Scenario 8-4: Tokichiro's Trap
Scenario 8-5: From Oyu to Oichi
14. Onigashima - 2nd visit (2)
Once the cutscene is finished, enhance your equipment, save your game, and prepare for a boss fight. Also, there are 2 items along the hallway, though:
  • Item: Secret Medicine - first treasure box
  • File: Gogandantess's Barrier - second treasure box

Scenario 8-6: Gogandantess Final Battle

Boss: Gogandantess - Battle 3
This is your last battle with Gogandantess, and it's not as hard as you think. At the start of the battle, open your "Inventory -> Item -> Sacred Flute" and use it to break his barrier. In terms of strategy, I can't really help you much because it's more about skill than a trick. Here are some of my suggestions:
  • I recommend ice spear as you can attack him from afar.
  • Use the crevice in the middle as a barrier to block his attacks so you can hit him with the spear from the distance
  • Wear the purple necklace and use all your available Magic with different weapons
Note: you can actually kill him without using the "Sacred Flute".

He'll give you the "Respect Orb" after you defeated him.
  • Key Item: Respect Orb

Proceed to the next area.

Hidden Chest #13: Secret Medicine - Right in front of the door.

Go straight, go up the ladder, and follow the path. There are 3 items as follows:
  • Item: Medicine - you'll see a treasure box on your right. Destroy the steam pipes to get to it
  • Item: Herb - take the larger pipe near the wall, jump over to the other side
  • Item: Power Jewel - (Solution: Bottom Right, Right Bottom, Left Top, Top Left, Middle Top) Take the twin pipes in the middle, climb up the ladder

Next, jump on the platforms on the right screen to continue to the next area.

You are now back on the 1F of Onigashima. Move forward a few steps you'll see a statue in the middle on your right screen. Approach it and place the "Respect Orb", then enjoy a really cool movie.

Scenario 8-7: The Ancient Airship

Save your game when you regain control.

This is the last opportunity you can give items to Oyu, so let's complete 2 achievements below. You only need to do this for the first run, though.

Achievement: Beware of Mushrooms
Simply give "Unique Mushrooms" to Oyu. "Unique Mushrooms" effect is like rolling dice, it can randomly give either positive or negative friendship points. That's why I did not use it in the "Gift Exchange" section.

Achievement: Forgive and Forget
Similar to the achievement above, give "Wonder Flower" to Oyu. This item's effect is that it will negate the last trade you made with the character. Which means that any positive or negative outcome from the mushroom is reset.

Examine the flying boat to continue. There is a small mini-game that you have to spin both of your joysticks "LS" and "RS" evenly to open the door.

Scenario 8-8: Chasing the Airship
15. Demon Base (1)
Airship
You'll appear in the engine room. Now go straight and save your game in the corner, then follow the hallway to the other side for 2 items:
  • Item: Magic Jewel - (Solution: Middle Right, Middle Top, Bottom Right, Middle Bottom, Middle Left, Right Top)
  • Item: Magic Liquid

Hidden Red Souls #39: Right above the "Magic Liquid".

Enter the door to the next room, then pick up a medicine in the corner:
  • Item: Medicine

Hidden Chest #14: Medicine - In front of the exit door.

Proceed to the next area. Here you'll find a long hallway, but doesn't have anything, so keep going and enter the cockpit.

Scenario 9-1: Battle with Tokichiro
Scenario 9-2: Oda's Knights Attack

Once you regain control, examine the red light switch to continue.

Scenario 9-3: Oda's Knights Defeated
Scenario 9-4: The Airship Crashes

Gifu Castle Keep Tower
Hidden Chest #15: Medicine - You'll appear right in front of the chest after the cutscene.

Save your game in the corner of the room, then pick up the last collectable file on the ground:
  • File: Tokichiro's Memo #3

Enter the door to the next room.

Route: Ekei
Scenario 10-1-1: Parting with Ekei

Simply kill all the demons to finish the scenario.

Route: Oyu
This is one of the scenarios that a lot of people missed because it requires negative friendship points with Ekei to trigger it. The saddest part is that you have to kill Ekei :(.
  • Item: Ekei's Keepsake - it's like a Perfect Medicine that fully restores HP and MP when used.
Scenario 10-1-2: Ekei's Final Moment

Then proceed to another room with a staircase. There is a treasure box half hidden behind the staircase:
  • Item: Medicine

Now go upstairs, circle around, and enter the double door you first see. There are 2 items and a soul lamp inside:
  • Key Item: Purple Wedge - in the red box
  • File: Artwork #15 - this is the last artwork

Behind the room is a narrow passage with a ladder to go up the roof. You'll see the soul-sucking flying demon queen. You can either use a long-ranged weapon to kill its minions first or wait until they attack you. It's pretty easy, actually.

Hidden Red Souls #40: On the rooftop.

First, wear the purple necklace to reduce magic consumption, use wind blades magic to kill all the minions. The queen will come down eventually allowing you to use lightning sword and ice spear magic to finish it off.
  • Key Item: Gold Scale

Put the "Gold Scale" on the glowing fish statue to open the barrier to the demon base.

Go down and leave the room. Turn right, you'll see a small door on your right. Remember this door for now, let's go inside the demon base first to save your game and replenish your magic.

Demon Base

Once you saved the game, come back to the small door early. Use the "Purple Wedge" you just obtained on light to open a portal to the last Phantom Realm.

This Phantom Realm has 20 floors. The enemies are getting stronger and more powerful the more you go deep down. Note that all necklace effects cannot be used in the phantom realm, and the prize for clearing 20 floors is the most powerful weapon in the game:
  • Equipment: Rekka-Ken

Do not leave yet. Example the crack where you picked up the flame sword, put it back to a secret floor:
  • Key Item: Fashionable Goods 2 - You can only obtain this once, next playthrough will always be "Secret Medicine".

Exit the phantom realm and go back to save your game.

Note: if you haven't fully upgraded your equipment, now is the chance to do so. You can enter the phantom realm indefinitely to rack up the red souls for upgrade to unlock 2 achievements:
  • Check Out My Collection! - Enhanced all enhanceable weapons to the maximum.
  • Armor Aficionado - Enhanced all enhanceable armor to maximum.
Once you are fully upgraded, climb up the ladder near the Magic Mirror for a boss:

Scenario 10-2: Ginghamphatts Final Battle

Boss: Ginghamphatts - Battle 3
Phase one is pretty easy, you can simply run around and hit him from behind or charge your weapons 3 times to attack which can knock him back interrupting his attacks.

Phase 2 is different, he can now separate his body and legs, you only want to focus on his body though as you won't be able to kill him by attacking his legs. Use all your magic on his flying body, especially your newly obtained Rekka-Ken. It can deal massive damage to him. When using Rekka-Ken magic, you should slow down a little bit so that you can deal damage his body twice with the flame.

Route: Magoichi
Well, you'll get a free boss kill if you play as Magoichi's route.
Scenario 10-4-2: Parting with Magoichi

Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
Oyu will come to your aid during the boss fight.
Scenario 10-3: Kotaro's Trategy

Scenario 10-3: Ginghamphatts Final Moment
15. Demon Base (2)
You'll receive the last orb automatically:
  • Key Item: Strengh Orb

Route: Kotaro | S-Rank
Talk to Oyu and Kotaro to trigger this scenario.
Scenario 10-5: Kotaro's Final Moment

Go back downstairs, save your game, and prepare for the final battle. Approach the elevator and put the "Strength Orb" into the keyhole.

Here, one of two scenarios occurs depending on your friendship with Oyu:

Route: Oyu | S-Rank
Route: Ekei | Magoichi | Kotaro
Scenario 10-6-1: A world for Two
Scenario 10-6-2: Parting with Oyu

Scenario 10-7: Battle against Nobunaga

Boss: Nobunaga
Just like any other bosses, the first phase is easy. You can use any weapon's secret move to knock him back repeatedly until you get to phase 2.

Now phase 2 is a whole lot different. He spends most of the time flying, and you can hardly be able to hit him from the ground. The only times when he gets down are when he attacks you using his sword or when he flies back to the pedestal to recharge. My only suggestion is to keep practicing and remember his moves. To summarize for you, here is a list of his attacks:
  • Lightning: you can see he turns blue, shooting multiple lightnings from the air. Avoid the lightning by looking at the shadow on the ground.
  • Ice: the color is very similar to blue, he'll thrust toward you with his sword. If hit, you'll be frozen, try to break out by pressing all buttons quickly.
  • Wind: he turns green and uses whirlwind magic slowly move toward you. It's easy to avoid.
  • Earth: he turns orange, he'll throw rocks toward you. However, he cannot throw it to you if you stay right below him.
  • Fire: he turns red, this is the most dangerous attack he got, and it's hard to escape. You can use Magic to avoid the attack.

Scenario 10-8: The Golden Evil Statue

Boss: The Golden Evil Statue
This boss is way easier than Nobunaga. All you have to do is dodge and shoot until it dies.

Scenario 10-9: Conclusion
Scenario Final Chapter: Love & Sorrow

The end!!!
S-Rank Achievement
This is probably one of the hardest achievements because it requires certain conditions to be met. So I've included the 5th route "S-Rank Route", which is intended for doing S-Rank and also allows you to play all support characters in a single playthrough. Yeah, it is possible.

In order to get S-Rank, you must play on "Normal Mode" or above and have at least 54 points. The point is calculated as follows:

As you can see that you have to hit
  • 10 points in 5 categories, and at least 5 points for the 6th.
  • or 10 points in 4 categories, and 7 points in the last two categories.

That's why it is important to do the "S-Rank Route" last so that you are familiar with the game. The "S-Rank Route" will help you achieve 10 points in "Phantom Realms" and "Scenarios" categories. However, it's up to you to complete the other 4 by yourself.
  • Time: this might be a problem since unlocking more scenarios means that you spend more time playing as support characters. I would say getting 7 points is easier in this category.
  • Souls: shouldn't be a problem as long as you kill a good number of demons for souls. Easily 10 points.
  • Kills: this category is also easily 10 points.
  • Critical HIts: this can be troublesome if you are bad at performing critical hit. I believe practice more will help you achieve this. Tip: play in "Normal Mode" will help a lot because the critical hit frame is longer than "Hard Mode", also after you get the "Black Necklace" equip it immediately and use it to kill as many as possible.
Note: If you do not get 10 points for "Kills" or "Critical Hits" categories, you can reload the game from the Magic Mirror in the Demon Base, then get in and out of the Purple Phantom Realm (1st floor) to kill more demons until you reach the numbers. Unfortunately, you cannot use "Black Necklace" in the Phantom Realm, so it heavily relies on your skill to perform critical hits.
Mini-game: Men in Black
This mini-game heavily relies on your skill rather than tricks. The rule is that you equip with a wooden sword mean that you cannot kill the enemies. Your goal is to collect all films in 5 minutes.

Here are a few of my tips:
- In the skybridge area, there is a film blocked by the wall demon, you can simply walk pass it to the next area and come back to despawn the enemies.
- In the Mist Forest, you have to kill 3 hummingbird demons in the misty forest just like you did in the game. Wait until it flies to the left path, then rush through the enemies, stand below them and keep attacking. They go down in 3 hits.
Mini-game: Team Oni
I highly recommend you unlock all support characters before playing this mini-game because it will make your life so much easier with 5 characters. The rules are simple, your health bar is gradually decreased, so you have to clear all levels as soon as possible before you die. You can switch between characters you have unlocked during the game by pressing R3.

Things to know about this mini-game:
  • Performing Critical Hit does not give you yellow souls.
  • There are 2 types of vases, blue and gray, when destroying by YOU will give souls. The blue vases will give you yellow souls, and the gray vases will give you blue souls.
  • You gain your health back by entering the portal to the next level or using herbs/medicines. That's why you should always switch to a character with the lowest health before leaving.
  • Oyu is an exception because her magic (when pressing triangle) can produce yellow souls when attacking demons.
  • Every other level, you'll enter a break room where your health does not drain. And there are treasure boxes where you can get herbs/medicines and new weapons.
  • Jubei is often the weakness in this mini-game because all of his weapons are level 1, while others can switch to their stronger weapons.
Here is a list of items you can get from this mini-game:

Level 3:
  • Phirangi (Oyu's 2nd weapon)
  • Buraitou (Jubei's Lightning Sword)

Level 7:
  • Hyoujin-Yari (Jubei's Ice Spear)
  • Herb
  • Roga Kunai (Kotaro's 3rd weapon)

Level 13:
  • Goraishinki + Needle Bullets (Magoichi's weapon)
  • Halberd (Ekei's 3rd weapon)
  • Gladius (Oyu's 3rd weapon)
  • Senpumaru (Jubei's Wind Blades)

Level 16:
  • Dokoutsui (Jubei's Earth Hammer)
  • Herb
  • Kunikuzushi + Rounds (Magoichi's strongest weapon, also the slowest to use)
  • Flamethrower + Fuel (Magoichi's weapon)

Level 20:
  • Herb
  • Medicine
  • Herb

Level 21 (final level):
Here, you'll be fighting Nobunaga in his human form.
Mini-game: Puzzle Phantom Realm (1)
Artworks do not have an achievement on its own, but it is nice to collect them all, especially if you are a completionist. There are a total of 54 artworks:
  • #1 to #9 collect from gift exchange in "Pool D"
  • #10 to #18 collect from in-game.
  • #19 to #54 collect from Puzzle Phantom Realm. You can access it from the main menu "Special Features".
