Bookworm Lag/Crash Fix (Proton/Windows)

Are you running the Linux version of Steam and experiencing lag, crashes, or bugs when running Bookworm Deluxe via Proton? This method may be of help to you in solving some issues. Windows users experiencing issues may also try this method. In any case, your experience may vary. I cannot guarantee that this will fix every problem but it does help sometimes.

Here is all the info you need to try this with Bookworm Deluxe.

Normal executable: 'Bookworm.exe'
True executable: 'popcapgame1.exe'
True executable location: In 'C:\ProgramData\PopCap Games\Bookworm\')
Proton users, remember that the location will be under 'drive_c' in the game's Proton prefix. Proton prefixes are stored in your 'steamapps' folder under 'compatdata'. Bookworm Deluxe's Proton prefix should be number 3370.

Just do the following:
  1. Run Bookworm Deluxe.
  2. Go to the file location given above.
  3. Copy "popcapgame1.exe" to the game's installation folder.
  4. Quit Bookworm Deluxe.
  5. Rename "Bookworm.exe" to something else, like "Bookworm.exe.old".
  6. Rename the copy you made of "popcapgame1.exe" to "Bookworm.exe".
  7. Done! Now you can play the game as normal.
