How to get them.
REQUIREMENTS:

- Rain World: Downpour
- Beaten "Monk" or "Survivor"
- Gourmands campaign

HOW TO GET:
You start off in gourmands campaign, starting in Shaded Citadel, where you eat an orange thingy (which i STILL don't know the name), and after eating one, on the bottom left of your screen, the sprite of the orange thingy will show up, then a faded image of another food item will show up.
After that, you're supposed to eat the food items requested until it stops giving more things.
- it does NOT matter what order you eat the food
- you MUST do this "food quest" / "shopping list" in order to obtain the SlugNPC's.
- failing to have eaten at least 1 of the many food items, will result in a fail, but you can always go back (without restarting) and try again.
when you've beaten the food quest, finish the gourmand campaign. when re-entering the campaign, you will automatically be given 2 SlugNPC's.
They are now unlocked for the campaigns:
Survivor
Hunter
& gourmand.
don't ask why not for monk, i don't know.
Spawns.
When in the campaigns that allow pups, resting in a shelter will set a spawn chance depending on the region you are in. Some regions don't spawn slug pups, and some regions will delete your pups if you shelter in said region. Ex: pipeyard, and some Downpour exclusive regions. pipeyard might have been fixed, if not, get a mod to prevent it.

SPAWNS:
- Outskirts: 15%
- Industrial Complex: 25%
- Drainage System: 25%
- Shoreline: 15%
- Garbage Wastes: 30%
- Shaded Citadel: 40%
- Exterior: 5%
- Chimney Canopy: 25%
- Sky Islands: 20%
- Farm Arrays: 30%
- Subterranean: 50%
- pipeyard: 50%
- Outer Expanse: 10%

When a SlugNPC spawns, it is put in a random shelter in the region you are in. Items in the shelter do not change the spawn rates.
there is a glitch where 2 slug pups can spawn
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjdSXtO_RRI at 3:53 of this video, Sliver of Snail explains it.
i also recommend watching the other facts so i dont have to explain them here.
Taming
When you spot a SlugNPC, it will be afraid of you. Do NOT grab them, it will mess with their ai (apparently.) Instead, give them a food item, or give them an item like a pearl. After you do so, they will/might trust you, and then start following you. On the cycle of when you've met, you won't be able to see their food pips. they have 2 available food pips, and 1 extra for storage. If they wont take a food item when attempting to tame, give them a pearl instead. After you're tames said pup, save in a shelter, and it will from there on out consider you as their parent.

Notes: Dying will not change the shelter it spawns in, but it does change the color and stats. When a pup spawns, depending on a certain stat, it will either A: stay in the spawn room, or B: attempt to wander. most of the time, they won't wander unless there is a threat like a lizard, forcing them to flee from the threat.
Personality traits/stats
When a slugpup spawns, it is given a random id, which determines its personality stats.
For example, it could have [NRG 0.78] or [SYM 0.whatever]. The higher the number, the more of that trait they are.

Energy (NRG)
High stats
- more likely to move around and not stay close
- when told to stand still/stay, they will probably wander off
- less likely to "idle", instead, jitter around.
- doesn't stop to rest.

Low stats:
- stays (or at least tries to) close to you
- will stay when told (unless there is a threat)
- will occasionally stop to rest if energy is lower than .30

Sympathy (SYM)
High stats
- Less aggressive
- will mourn your death
- won't attack creatures until taught to

Low stats
- doesn't need to be taught to fight back

Bravery (BRV)
High stats
- less likely to flee from fights
- less likely to flee from danger in general (when you're around)
- will help with fights (probably)

Low stats
- will most likely flee from all fights
- stays close to player

Nervous (NRV)
High stats
- plays with objects more than other pups normally would

Low stats
- untested

Aggression (AGR)
High stats
- will look for weapons when in a fight, or will just have a weapon in general
- that's kind of it

Low stats
- untested

Dominance (DOM)
High stats
- untested

Low stats
- stays close to the player
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Personalities affect other personalities, making it kind of hard for me to research too
Ex: L NRV can effect H BRV, H AGR can effect L SYM
Commands
Jump - Unknown what it does, but some people think it means to be a "play" mode.
- Pups will follow you less and stay more behind
Holding Down + jump - "Stay here"
- Pup will stay at the spot they were told to stay at.
Notes: when danger is around, they might jitter around, and depending on their traits, and might even go back to following you when untold to. this is likely to happen anyways. If a pup is energetic, it may sometimes wander into other rooms, so be wary of that.
Holding Up + jump - "Stop"
- the pup will stop whatever their current command is and go back to normally following you.
Note: it works for the previous commands.
Learning system
I am unsure how this works, but i was told that they hard copy what you do on a cycley basis.
e.g.
- In a fight/when in danger, will examine your movement, and what you do, like the items you use.
- When hungry, jumping to get bat flies (this one takes a while to learn for me)
- Path finding?
- Movement (i doubt this one, but i've heard and seen some people talking about teaching their pups how to slide and roll on top of pebbles' can, although sliding will enable the "stay" command.)
Extra: when throwing an item that isn't something like a rock or a spear (basically food or pearls)
the pups will go to pick it up. if you want them to hold a spear or rock, you have to drop it manually.
when the "stop" command is enabled, they will still go to pick up the item and then go back to their spot.
In Hunter's campaign, when you eat a corpse, you will throw it, which triggers them to grab the corpse. if there's a mod to disable that, can someone tell me?
pups can get stuck on corpses like lizards, lizards, and anything bigger than a lizard. if there is a mod for that as well, can someone tell me?
If this is editable (which i have not check but i will in a sec), i will do more research and come back to edit this.
I will probably add some other things from mods into it like push to more, PupAI, and Smort pups.
go check them out btw, they're pretty good as well. the ptm BETA affects pups more but having both mods on at the same time will make you meow twice.
