Norland Base Layout guide 2025
By kunigi.ki
I recently started playing Norland again. The game has evolved into an even more enjoyable experience with new features and mechanics added. However, I felt that many strategy guides are either outdated or lacking, so I decided to share my own base layout.

Base Layout
I am Japanese, and in Japan, there is a proverb: “You see the trees, but not the forest.”
In Norland, it’s important to understand the key principles before worrying about minor details like exact walking paths. Here are the essential points you should keep in mind:

Point 1: Peasant Raids
Peasant raids are basically practice for learning where to place your walls, gates, and towers. Pay attention to the directions from which enemies approach, and prepare solid defenses.
For example, in my Gorno build, blocking just the west and southwest sides completely stopped enemies from entering.

Point 2: Warrior Patrol Areas
Keep the number of patrol spots for warriors to a minimum. Warriors are already exhausted from battles and training. If they are ordered to patrol too many locations, they become even more fatigued and their mood will suffer.
You only need to station warriors in three locations:

In front of the gate – Escaping prisoners must pass through the gates. By assigning warriors here both day and night, you can efficiently capture them.

At the Lord’s residence – The Lord may be attacked at night, so place guards here during nighttime only.

At the library – Knowledge is vital in Norland, and losing books to theft can cause major setbacks. Always defend your books.

Point 3: Barracks Near the Gate
Build your barracks in houses close to the gate. This ties into Point 2: if the barracks are too far away, your warriors won’t be able to respond quickly enough to patrol assignments. Mark houses near the gate with “Warrior Priority.”

Point 4: Prisoners in the Chancellery Office
Always make sure that prisoners work in the Chancellery Office. Prisoners work longer hours than farmers. Because of this, assigning government office tasks to prisoners allows you to spread the office directives to the entire workplace with a high success rate. The support effect provided by these directives is far more important than optimizing the workflow of individual buildings like fields or blacksmiths.

Point 5: Building Placement for Chancellery Workers
Cluster the buildings managed by the Chancellery close together. If they are spread too far apart, the workers may not be able to deliver orders efficiently.

Point 6: Prisoner Housing Placement
Place prisoner housing close to the Chancellery Office but as far as possible from the gates. The reason is to give your warriors more time to respond when prisoners attempt to escape.
For the same reason, also assign prisoner work areas far away from the gates whenever possible.

Strategy Notes for Rekin Map

Arranging facilities on this map was quite a challenge. Here are the key points from my strategy:

◆ Four Entrances
There are four entry points: north, northeast, west, and southwest. That means you’d normally need four gates.
However, by redirecting the southwest path to merge with the west entrance, I was able to cut it down to just three gates.
I also placed the northern gate vertically to make it easier to check new immigrants.

◆ Keep Towers Together
At first, I put towers at all the gates, but the warriors became too spread out and some never fought.
I later realized enemies only attacked from the west or southwest, so I set up a kill zone in the south.
If there’s an area you don’t want breached, build double walls—enemies usually ignore them.
I also left zigzag gaps in the southern walls so enemies had to walk through while towers shot at them.
Pro tip: when placing towers, use Q or E to rotate them so the entrance (marked with an arrow) always faces inward toward the town.

◆ Prison District with Walls
I walled off an area in the south-central part of the map to create a prison district.
For the town itself, I built a northern wall with just one central gate.
To the south, I added more walls and funneled passages toward the west side, limiting the exit routes. This made it much harder for prisoners to escape.
By narrowing the access points to just three—the prison gate, the northern gate, and the western gate—I reduced the number of spots my warriors had to guard.

◆ Dealing with Wolves
This map has a lot more wolves compared to the Gorno map.
You’ll need to either send out troops regularly or station warriors where wolf attacks happen often.
Equip them with swords or axes, and make sure their combat strength is at least 10.
Remember, wolves can actually walk through walls, so adjust your wall layouts to make them easier to intercept.
