Therefore since we are on the internet write down and be clear on your values since you cannot actually say them by mouth to people. Be clear on your values, your goals and what you need in a friendship, and then respect them and their boundaries by finding common ground.
Step 2: Don't be a doormat.
People will run you over if you give them permission to. Therefore a fine balance of giving and getting should always be in order in every relationship and friendship.
Step 3: Find an understanding.
Friendships take time but they are worth it. Build them slowly by getting to know people and then be clear on what you want from them, and in turn what they need from you.
