Stalemate
That's right. There's a stalemate at the front by a bunch of losers that look like this:

What ar eyou gonna do about it? Cry? You keep getting turned into swiss cheese by Jeremy Falchion or Gordon Gallagher? There's one tool for the job...
What a Smokescreen Can Do
So you're stuck, there's a no man's land and there's bullets flying everywhere. Your tank can't push up because he'll get shot too(duh), and he can't provide covering fire for you because infantry can't push up without getting murderised. What you're looking for a smokescreen.

Assume that your infantry has a mix of anti-tank weaponry and small arms. You and your boys throw smoke grenades to conceal your movement.

The enemy tank can't see what's happening in front of him, maybe he'll shoot, maybe his friends will shoot, maybe they kill a guy or two but it won't be orderly, accurate fire.

The tank crew is likely going to pull back for his own self-safety or take an avoidable hit—this is where your infantry and tanks can begin to move up and push the front.

That's it. Wanna push a front? Smoke grenades, my dude.
