Downgrade to better Early Access version (pre-1.0)

Play the far better Early Access version of the game, which had a completely better and different feel than the 1.0 release. It has a ton more levels, better level design, and arguable looks better than the 1.0 rug pull that we got slapped in the face with.

It's super simple!

You can download the older Early Access version via Steam Console.

Open the Run command (Windows Key + R) and input:

steam://nav/console

Then in the Steam Console terminal, input the following command:

download_depot 2172260 2172261 7175120733322222104

This will download the last Early Access version of the game from 19 July 2023, which was the latest version prior to the 1.0 release this year.

Once the specific depot version downloads, look at the console readout to where the files have been downloaded to. By default, this will be:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_2172260\depot_2172261

Now you have a backup of the last version of The Complex: Expedition and can archive it to keep (7-zip it).

**It goes without saying, that you need to of course own The Complex: Expedition.

Simply add the Early Access depot executable you just downloaded as a Non-Steam game and launch it right from your Steam Library.
