Introduction
This is a guide to finding and defeating the new secret bosses added in the 2025 re-release of OFF. They are mostly found in the Purified Zones. These are:
  • Source (Zone 1)
  • Maldicion (Zone 2)
  • Psalmanazar & Herodotus (Zone 3)
  • Justus (The Room)
  • Carnival (???)
  • Cob (Final Area)

You don’t get anything from beating them aside from some EXP, dialogue and some pillarbox art.
Source
Getting to the Boss
I recommend getting Omega from Zone 2 before fighting this boss. After defeating Dedan, return to Zone 1. The route is linear until you get to this room:

Head north through the doorway. To get in, push the rocks on the sides up, then the one in the middle to the right or left. Once you're in, find the ladders and speak to the eye:

Description
Source
HP: 600
Resists Poison and Lethargy.

Phase 1
Flourish - Heals itself.
(Source can’t damage the party in this phase.)

Phase 2
Verdant Bonds - Gives a passive healing effect to Source.
Famine - Poisons a party member.

Phase 3
Return to Nature - Creates thorny plants that damage Batter and Add-Ons every time they take an action. Deals a little over 20 damage at Level 7.

Strategy
This boss is very easy when you know his gimmick. He doesn’t deal any damage directly, he just poisons and damages you with thorns. For Phases 1 and 2, just spam basic attacks. Don’t bother using any resources. Once you hit Phase 3, begin using Furious Home Run on Batter and Saturated String/Converted String on Alpha to deal damage fast. Use a Luck Ticket or Save First/Second Base if a party member starts to get low (about 40 HP), keep in mind the damage from Return to Nature applies before the action actually goes through!

At level 7, winning shouldn’t take more than a Luck Ticket or 2.
Maldicion
Getting to the Boss
I recommend getting Epsilon from Zone 3 before fighting this boss. Return to Zone 2 after defeating Japhet. Go West to where the Theme Park used to be. It should be pretty obvious.

Description
Maldicion
HP: 812
Resists Palsied.

Bubble/Double Bubble
HP: 350
Resist Poison

Always starts each phase with Entropic Piety. Can sometimes skip Phase 2.

Attacks:
Entropic Piety - Damages itself and makes Maldicion Impure, giving it a weakness to a random element. (Wow, what a move!)
Unstable Purity - Deals damage to a one party member and makes the target Impure.
Maldicion Attacks! - Deals damage to one party member
Clamor Claws - Deals damage to the whole party.

Phase 2:
Entropic Piety - Now also summons a Bubble around itself.

Phase 3:
Entropic Piety - Summons TWO Bubbles around itself.

Strategy
Much harder than Source. The main gimmick with this boss is the impure status which gives weakness to a random element. At the level you normally reach this boss, you might not have access to Meat attacks, which can make the fight harder (but still winnable) if you’re unlucky and keep rolling Meat weakness.

Buff Batter with Classical Drama on Epsilon, and use him to deal elemental damage (you can hover over the boss to see what it’s weak to). Use Special Home Run during Phases 2 and 3 if you can’t use the Elemental Weakness. Use Alpha to apply poison and lethargy when the bubbles are down, if you’re able to. Keep the whole party reasonably healthy to prepare for Clamor Claws (above ~60 HP). Sometimes Impure will activate and deal a ton more damage to a party member, you mostly just have to deal with it. Don't stress if you're struggling to get through the shields, the boss is always slowly killing itself by using Entropic Piety.

This might take a Joker or two, especially if you’re unlucky. If you’d like, you can wait until Level 13 for Run With Faith to have a Meat move, which will make the fight much easier.
Psalmanazar & Herodotus
Getting to the Boss
This one is actually pretty easy to miss. Return to Zone 3 after defeating Enoch. After you fall down the first pipe and enter this room, go down the stairs to the south.

There will be a gap on the wall in the room down the stairs - enter it to find the boss.

Description
Psalmanazar
HP: 810
Resists Palsied.

Herodotus
HP: 810
Resists Palsied.

Gnosticus
HP: 220 (“Real”)
HP: 400 (“Distactions”)

Attacks:
Vilify - Vilifies the whole party, preventing the use of Competencies. Can’t be removed.
Subturfuge - Makes the whole party Defamed. A party member will be declared guilty (they get constant crits), and when the condition ends, the damage/healing they dealt will be dealt to the whole party.
Fib - Deals damage to a party member.
Smoke Sceen - Deals damage to a party member.
Deceptive Inquiry - Deals a larger amount of damage to a party member.
Facade - Summons 3 Gnosticus.
Red Herring (Gnosticus) - Deals damage to a party member.

Strategy
Focus your attacks on either Psalmanazar or Herodotus. You will spend almost this entire fight Vilified, but it’s okay. When one of them uses Subturfuge and you become defamed, look for who is getting endless crits. Don't attack with that party member - their damage will be dealt to the whole party later. Just defend or use healing (healing will be dealt to the whole party too!). When Gnosticus are present, attack the one that gets constant crits. Killing that one will kill all the Gnosticus.

It’s slow, but you’ll win eventually.
Justus
Getting to the Boss
If you’ve defeated the other zodiac bosses, there will be a staircase at the start of The Room. Hard to miss.

Description
Justus
HP: 1100
Attacks
Expected Bracket - Inflicts poison.
Requisite Bracket - Deals damage and inflicts Lethargic.
Surrealist Tragedy - Deals damage to the whole party.
Irrevocable Drama - Makes Justus Gasty.
Photographic Blur - Deals damage.
Classical Drama - Gives Justus Strength.

Strategy
This boss's gimmick is that he uses the Add-ons moves. Just use standard tactics: Special Home Run on Batter, Expected Bracket and Requisite Bracket with Alpha, remove debuffs with Omega, and give Batter Strength with Epsilon. Should be pretty easy.
Carnival
Getting to the Boss
After defeating Justus, return to the nothingness and enter the swirling vortex at the top left.

Description
Carnival
HP: 1450
Game of Aquarius
Imitates Justus. Get prizes for using Compentencies.

Surrealist Tragedy - Deals damage to the whole party.
Requisite Bracket - Deals damage and inflicts Lethargic.
Ultimate Home Run - Deals huge damage.
[Unknown Attack] - Deals damage and inflicts Confusion.

Game of Pisces
Imitates Psalmanazar and Herodotus. Get prizes for taking damage.

Red Herring - Deals damage.
Hoax - Deals damage to the whole party.

Game of Cancer
Imitates Maldicion. Get prizes for dealing elemental damage.

Unstable Purity - Deals elemental damage.
Clamor Claws - Deals damage to the whole party.

Game of Leo
Imitates Source. Get prizes for healing or restoring CC.

Flourish - Heals Carnival or the whole party.
Swan Dive - Deals damage and inflicts Palsied. (Hey, Source didn’t have this!)

Strategy
Getting prizes refills your action bar. Make use of this mechanic when you can (see above for how to get prizes). Otherwise this is another relatively standard fight - though harder than Justus. You’ll probably need to use some items, including Jokers and Golden/Silver Flesh. During the game of Cancer and Pisces, make sure to keep the party healthy so you aren’t wiped by their full party attacks.

Batter: Use Special Home Run, or an elemental attack if it’s the Game of Cancer. Keep Batter alive always and use items to refill his CC.
Alpha: Inflict Palsy until it says Carnival resists it, then inflict Lethargy and Poisoned.
Omega: Can cure Lethargy. Can deal elemental damage using Gaussian Blur in the Game of Cancer. Generally has bad Compentencies, so also use them to feed items to Batter.
Epsilon: Use the buffs constantly. Give Strength to Batter and Sturdy to the weakest party member.
Cob
Getting to the Boss
Make sure you stock up on Jokers. As many as possible. After defeating the Queen in the Room, there will be a staircase off to the left that leads to Cob.

Description
Cob
HP: 900
Resists Palsied.

Attacks:
(Cob always does these attacks in order, in a loop.)
Conjugate Auroras - Heals Cob and removes statuses. Removes Vilified from the party.
Rearrangement of Solid Objects - Deals damage to the whole party. Deals less damage the less HP you have, so it’s actually pretty non-threatening.
Cob watches [X] with great interest - Indicates who will get targeted with Ionosphere in a few turns.
Advent of the Corrupted Era - Applies Vilified to the entire party. This version of Vilified also prevents using objects.
Cob gives [X] a boon! - Heals the party member who is about to get hit with Ionosphere.
Ionosphere - Deals a ludicrous amount of damage to a party member. Cannot be survived.

Strategy
A very annoying boss that restricts your options. You only have a brief moment to apply competencies/objects before getting Vilified every loop. Your top priority is applying poison with Alpha, reviving whoever was killed by Ionosphere using a Joker, then otherwise dealing as much damage as possible. Due to the way Rearrangement of Solid Objects works, you can actually pretty much ignore it (it does pathetic damage when you’re at low HP). Just keep hitting and poisoning them and they'll die eventually.

If you'd like, you can grind to Level 17 to unlock Multiple Perspective on Omega or Level 19 to unlock Save Fourth Base on the Batter, both of which revives an ally. This saves you money on Jokers, but isn't really necessary and the grinding takes a while.

Tip: After Ionosphere, press X to take no action and wait until you lose Vilified.
Conclusion
And... that's it! Your only reward is some new pillarbox art, but hopefully it was fun? Thanks for reading!

If you lack of damage (if you are not leveled up enough), I recommend to buy as much Expiration as possible. Use it in a fight instead of attacks or skills - but only on Batter, since he inflicts much more damage even with objects, especially if you let Epsilon to buff him on attack. Other Addons should focus only on feeding team with Jokers and Fortune Tickets. Otherwise Cob might constantly overheal your damage.

or defending if you run out of silver flesh but regardless.

As a tip for cob, if you grind enough levels then you'll get the ability to revive characters on both the batter and omega. Once you have that you don't need to rely on joker cards, just silver flesh.
