Hexen 100% Achievement Guide
By Major Jin Lang
A detailed Achievement guide for Hexen: Beyond Heretic.

This guide aims to help players complete achievements with ease. I decided to solely focus on Hexen, as so far Heretic has a few guide uploaded already.

Please note: This is not a walk-through, this guide just offers a quick detailed description on how to obtain each achievement for Hexen only. Also, please be sure to check for helpful comments below as some players have added alternate ways to obtain some of the class-specific achievements, Cheers!

Thanks for reading, grab a cup of tea and let's go.

Class Specific Achievements
Fighter - Baratus

Infinite Combo
Zone: Seven Portals Hub
Weapon: Spiked Gauntlets

This is obtainable anywhere for the Fighter, so long as you have 10 enemies to defeat. It is best using Ettins (Two headed normal monster) as they take one 3 hit combo to defeat. I chose to do it in the Severn Portals, I gathered up the enemies, and opened one door, then I positioned myself next to the central platform, in a little but accessible alcove and gave a knuckle-sandwich (3 punches of doom) to every baddie that came up to me. I kept my Quartz Flask on hand and used it to heal, if my health got too low. You must get 10 perfect combos in a row, meaning you must land each punch exactly on target. No misses. I am not sure if there is a time limit, but you need to do it before switching weapons.

Bombs Away
Item: Flechette

The Warrior’s flechette acts like a grenade. Just throw (or a few) into a group and it will explode. In the first zone, you will find flechettes in the centre of the cathedral. Just hit an Ettin twice with the Spiked Gauntlets and throw the flechette then run past him and it should explode and take him with it. This is achievement you can obtain anywhere.

I Thought This was a Melee Class?
Weapon: Hammer of Retribution
Hub 2; Shadow Wood

Simple, you get the Hammer of Retribution at the bottom of a tower in the swamp in the Shadow Wood Hub. Just attack and defeat an enemy who is further away from you to unlock the Achievement. When in melee range, you will hit physically, when enemies are further away you throw the hammer like Thor!

Note: If you find the Hammer of Retribution in a none-Fighter Class, make your way back up top and use the book to change character. You should find either re-spawning Ettins up here, or you can venture into the area with the bridge (that breaks) you can easily get a quick and clear shot on an Ettin there. Or you can move around to the large temple/castle on the opposite side. There are plenty of enemies there.

The Cleric: Parias

It's Gas
Item: Flechette

This is easily obtainable during the Seven Portals Hub: Guardian of Steel and or the Bright Crucible Secret level. In Guardian of steel, at the very start clear the Ettins on both stair ways, run up and aggro the Centaurs. Make sure they follow and run all the way up the opposite staircase and do the same. Bring them downstairs near the portal. Drop a flechette and then watch them succumb to it as they are weak to it.

If doing the secret level. On the far left and right sides of the map, you will find an elevators/lifts that will take you up to platforms. I think the right side (from starting point) leads to a prison Cell block looking area (I think?) with a lot of Centaurs. Get the attention of a few of them and deploy the flechette gas cloud and watch. Ah. Silent but deadly.

The Old One-Two
Zone: Hub 2

During the Darkmere swamp level you should find a [Disc of Repulsion], now you can take this to the Wasteland level, and right at the start, you have a Serpent who you can use to get this or his Ettin mates down below. Either way, attack the him/Ettin a few times with your mace, then drop the flechette slightly away from your enemy, then move round and use the Disc of Propulsion to knock him back into the gas cloud. You should unlock The Old One-Two then.
Note: I suggest hitting so the gas works quicker.

Schlurp!
Serpent Staff

In the Seven Portals level Guardian of Steel, go up the left staircase, defeat the Ettins and pull the green switch before going into the central area behind the large steel corner door. Clear the enemies. Get to the lift that you do not need a key for, (on the right from where you entered. At the bottom, slay the Serpent and take a left, you should find the [Serpent Staff]. Take this staff. It fires a ranged attack and has a very close up life draining attack.
You must get close and personal to drain the life from enemies.
Just don’t use it on Centaurs as they WILL block you and you will end up poisoning yourself and will die fast.

I think the amount of hit points recovered carries over from level to level and to hub. So, once you are back in the hub Try to face enemies 1 by 1 try not to get surrounded. This is the quickest and safest way to obtain the achievement.

The Mage: Daedolon

Out of the Blue
Location: anywhere with two enemies.
This one is simple to get, just line up the enemies and shoot them with the Mage’s wand. The wand acts like a railgun and passes through enemies. This one will take a few tries, so I just recommend you play the game normally and keep aiming to get two at a time.

Sequence Break
Zone: Prologue Winnowing hall

At the start of the game head through the building in front of you, go left up the short stairs you will see 3 windows, smash the one on the right revealing a secret passage. Go down, defeat any enemies, activate the switch to open up the next area. Head up, fight the enemies and hit the green switch. Run back down, avoiding the crushing doors trap and head back outside.

Once outside, head to your left and follow it along to a large Door and stonewall with battlements atop it. Go inside and clear the enemies, ignore the locked door and hit the switch on the right, turn round, by the entrance there is a steep stairway to the left. Go up and clear the enemies and hit the switch at the end of the rampart. Go back down the stairs and the door on the right will now be open.

Dodge the enemies or defeat them and aim up at the bell tower in the middle of the garden. Zapp the bell with your Sapphire Wand and the achievement should unlock.

Both Sculpture Garden and Makin’ Bacon are easily obtainable together on the “Wastelands” level from Hub 2: Shadow Wood
Requirement: Frost Shards and Porkalator

Makin' Bacon

After traversing the caves, you will come to a stone-grey cave, follow it round and eventually the walls drop to reveal a swamp. Nearby there should be a cave with two directions, the one is pitch black, you will fight a fire bird and a dragon but will eventually come to a pit fall drop and a [Porkalator] – a usable item that allows you to polymorph enemies into little pigs.

Now we head back to grey stone section with the swamp, clear the enemies, jump across to the hut with a door with swamp key. Go through, and hit the switch, then come out. To your left you will see a whole new area unlocked. Save your game. A giant Greek Acropolis-like structure, with a lot of Ettins (Two Headed guys) on the ground, and Brown Serpents up top. Go around, using the lighting of weapon 3 to make short work of the Serpents, but avoid the Ettins. Gather the Ettins up at the stairs, go up slightly turn round to see them In front of you and then use the Porkulator and you should be able to get all five poly-morphed enemies in one shot!

Sculpture Garden

Now, the sculptures, if you go the stairs and into the pool, you will trigger a bunch of Ettins to teleport in. Quickly allow them to gather while strafing either on the platform or down the stairs (I did down the stairs) then zap them with the frost shards while circling them. And you should get 10 frozen guys, before they shatter.

Please note, you may find it difficult to hit the pigs and the Ettins in time as they take fewer hits to freeze, so you can reload your save and then just deal with the Ettins.

Also note, you do not have to be the mage for the Porkulator achievement.
Non-Class Specific Achievements.
Are We Ready to Fly?
Hub 1: Seven Portals

After solving all of the puzzle of seven portals, you will open the big double doors at the far end of the hub, this leads out to a caged in area, and chasm outside. Clear all the baddies in the cage, press the switch and exit to the chasm area. If you go far to the left you will notice across the chasm is an unreachable area, and below it to the right, a ledge. Run and jump across the lower ledge. Go up and find the [Wings of Wrath]. Activate them to unlock the achievement.

As noted by Lolinder, they only active in your current hub, and will not stay active when you traverse to the next one. This rule applies for individual levels too.
Tip: If you save before using them, you can get the achievement and then reload and use the item later on!

It’s for a Special Occasion

Just collect 25 flechettes until you max them out in your inventory as they are the most common item and this achievement will unlock early in to the Seven Portals hub.

Porcine Predicament

You must be turned into a pig and run away to survive. Easily done with a Centaur in Hub 2. Find a Porkulator and then hit a centaur to raise their shield, use Porkulator and turn yourself into a piggy. Then run away to safety until it wears off.

Triple Play

You must complete a hub zone while having played all three characters. I simply did each Guardian level as a different character: E.g., Guardian of ice as the fighter, Guardian of Steel as the Cleric and Guardian of Fire as the mage. Once I completed Seven Portals, I unlocked it.
Note: I don’t know if you need to complete levels as these classes or just need to switch to them.

The Full Party
Requires Multiplayer

Complete any hub (and all the levels) with at least 3 players. Each player will have to be one of the heroes. E.g., Player 1: Fighter, Player 2: Cleric, Player 3: Mage.
I’d recommend the Seven Portals hub as with three or more players, it will be over really quickly.

I hate that guy
Zone: Hub 3: Heresiarch’s Seminary

After gathering all of the gems and placing them into the Astrological chart, Completing the map and solving the 9 switch puzzle for the Wolf, Griffin and Dragon pictures to light up. Heresiarch will appear in the hub.

Hersesiarch has three mana symbols floating around him, the green and blue represent his two main attacks: a purple beam attack and two heat-seeking bouncing fireballs. He will activate a purple symbol throughout the encounter, which seemingly grants him the ability to deflect magic attacks, meaning you would have to melee him and/or bombard him with flechettes as the Mage or Fighter; or as the Cleric, you can get in close with the mace, and deploy 10 poisonous cloud flechettes to do some real damage. (Thanks Lolinder)

To gain the advantage:
  • Try to circle strafe to avoid taking damage from his purple beam and his fireballs.
  • Utilise the pillars to break line of sight, and to take cover from his attacks to heal etc.
  • Also look out for spawning Bishops, take them out asap!
  • Get in close to melee or to deploy flechettes throughout the fight.

Pieces of Power
Collect all the parts to a class’ fourth weapon. You will find them as you complete hubs.
May require visiting the Sacred Grove secret level in hub 2 Shadow Wood.

  • Fighter: Quietus (A very very powerful sword with a range attack.)
  • Cleric: Wraithverge (The BFG of this game.)
  • Mage: Bloodscourge (An extremely powerful staff with homing attacks:

Each weapon has 3 parts to collect. And can be found at:
  • Seven Portals: All three weapon parts for each class are across chasm by the final portal to the next hub.
  • Shadow Wood: After solving the puzzles, you will unlock the boss level, where you need to hit 3 switches in 3 different rooms to open the boss room. Each piece is in one of those rooms.
  • Heresiarch's Seminary: Southeast (Bottom right on map) corner of the hub, opposite the portal to the Orchard of Lamentation level, you will find 2 grey trees. Cut them down and press the hidden switch behind them.Go back up the stairs and you will find 4 revolving doors, the second revolving door on the left leads to the room with the third piece of each classes' weapon.
  • Castle of Grief: Desolate Garden. After visiting the Sacred Grove secret level in Shadow Wood hub, and pressing the switch, it triggers a secret portal to unlock on Hub 4. In this secret level you can find EVERY piece of your final weapon... for all three classes, so don't worry if you missed them before.

Are YOU ready to Die?
Defeat the final boss Korax.

Korax is a boss fight in two halves: When you engage, try to avoid his traps and attacks as he hits hard. Just spam him with your fourth weapon while strafing a little and you should force him to teleport. Then the fun begins, enemies will come out of two doors on opposite ends of the room. The enemies come in two waves, so be prepared to fight. You can use a [Minotaur] here to help, and there are [krater of might] (full mana) pick ups dotted around to help. Fight through two waves, Ettins and then Slaugghtaurs. After winning, proceed to the next area. Engage Korax again, you can spam him with your fourth weapon again and this time it seems quicker. Try and keep a short-mid distance though, as this time when you defeat him, ghosts spawn to get you, a one final hurrah.

Checkmate
Complete Hexen: Beyond Heretic.

Step through the portal once defeating Korax.

Ozymandia
Complete the ‘Vestiges of Grandeur’ expansion.

Regicide Tenebrae
Complete the ‘Deathkings of the Dark Citadel’ expansion.
Thanks!
Thank you for reading this guide.

I hope this guide helps you gather all of the Hexen achievements, especially those class specific ones, as some of them can be a bit tricky. Please feel free to provide constructive feedback in the comments, if I missed something, or if an achievement can be obtained in an easier way, please let me know!

Apologies for not having a more complete guide uploaded with images, and for not doing a whole walk-through. Plenty of Hexen Master's have already provided very well detailed text and video walk-through's online, so please check them out!

Since I believe this one will be the definite Hexen guide of this hub, I also wanted to the share what I have written about the 'The Full Party' achievement here. You may want to consider rewording it and adding to the guide for it will most likely be hard to find people online to go for this one in a few months' time.

For my sake, I'm okay with unlocking it this way since it is the sole MP achievement of what is primarily a SP game and only a variation of what can already accomplished while playing it solo.

Thanks for the additional tips an info folks.

<Blank> I didn't think those trees counted, good to know!

ere, I think you are right. you can gather the ettins up quite quickly there. Excellent idea!

-GK- Librarian Markus Ramikin, that's a great tip! if someone enjoys a specific class more, they can play it though and switch at the end. Awesome stuff.
For Triple Play all it took was switching to the other two classes right before finishing a Hub. After reloading a save, too.

EverChosen97 the trees near the bell should work (on Hexen:Beyond Heretic)

I think 'Sculpture Garden' is meant for Hub 2's secret level, Sacred Grove - it even fits the theme. Pretty handy guide, by the way. Thanks! :isitcoffee:
