Introduction
Welcome to my guide! I have been waiting for Blade to be playable since the day I watched the Blade movies. That's why I'm a Blade main now. Blade has been released a while ago so he's still a fresh hero. Perhaps he might get tweaked in future. Personally I perform great as Blade, winning most games(%60+ winrate) while being the mvp/ace almost always as Blade so I wanted to help other Blades out there who wanna get better at him. You already took the first step towards being a better Blade by clicking on his guide!
Lore
Eric Brooks was born a "Daywalker", a half-vampire, after his mother was bitten by a vampire before giving birth. Gifted with supernatural abilities from his cursed bloodline and trained to perfection in combat, he became the ultimate vampire hunter: Blade.

While Dracula seized New York, Blade was the first hero to challenged him. But armed with the Chronovium gifted by Doctor Doom, Dracula easily defeated Blade and imprisoned him beneath his castle. After the curse of eternal night was lifted and Eric was rescued, he was sent to Wakanda for a long recovery... until Shuri awakened him, recruiting him as the sharpest edge in the fight against the All-Black!

Mentality
Improving & Turning Off The Autopilot
First of all you should allow yourself to improve. Autopilot isn't good for your gameplay. It means doing the same things again and again automatically, by turning off your brain. It prevents the any learning opportunities you might get. You should avoid it for your own good.

Facing The Truth
Accept yourself as the way you are. You might be and might not be the greatest Blade ever but still you are here to get even better. Being bad at something doesn't mean you will always be bad. The point is doing your best, putting effort for progress and taking the responsibility for mistakes.

Teamplay
Always remember the fact that your teammates aren't bunch of bots even if they seem like sometimes. They are human beings just like you. Treat them with respect so they are most likely to cooperate with you which means teamwork makes the dream work!

Learning From Mistakes
Did you lose a game? Did you have poor performance last match? It doesn't matter. Don't queue instantly right after a lost game. Think a bit about the match. What did you do wrong? Ask yourself and be honest: Was it really your fault? Whatever it was, you have an opportunity to learn and improve. Every mistake you make gets you closer to perfection as long as you are aware of this. You can also watch your ranked games to visually see your mistakes to avoid doing the same again.

Winner Mentality
Having confidence and faith in yourself is key to victory. Do not be afraid to die in match if needed. Focus on your own gameplay, not the others'. Believe in yourself. If you're gonna secure a kill, you will. Turning the tides is pretty much possible almost in every match. Do not give up even if your team gets stomped in the beginning. The most important thing is not losing courage when you lose a game. Sometimes it might be your fault but usually it cannot be because it's a 6vs6 game. Learn from your mistakes and move on. Focus on having fun, enjoy playing Blade. Applying these would improve your winrate, performance and overall fun.

Basic Abilities

ANCESTRAL SWORD - NORMAL ATTACK(LMB)
Blade slashes in front of him with his blade, dealing 13 to 22 damage per swing. Makes 2 swings per second. Maximum range is 4.5 meters.

How to use it?
It has a lower damage output than the other primary attack option and is a melee weapon. You should swap to this when you want to dive into melee combat. Otherwise don't draw your sword. Very powerful against a group of enemies. Always spam one of your primary attacks non-stop. It's especially effective after lowering the enemy's hitpoints from distance so you can finish them off with the sword. It's recommended to see this as a sidearm that you can wield when your magazine runs out of ammo. It depends on the situation of course. In some games, you might need to use your sword often based on the enemy heroes. I do not recommend you to use sword in this mode. You can always wield it by using the E ability instead.

HUNTER'S SHOTGUN - ALTERNATIVE NORMAL ATTACK(LMB)
This is your main primary attack. The shotgun fires a bullet which breaks into shrapnel after reaching a certain distance. It's NOT hitscan weapon, it fires projectiles. Landing a full shot deals like 140 damage, even more if it's a headshot. It's fully effective up to 20 meters, %40 less effective at 30 meters and beyond.

How to use it?
It's usually the best option to take down a single target. Most basic trick is shooting once, hiding behind a wall and shooting again then repeating this until you run out of ammo. By doing this, you would be exposed minimal to your enemies but still shooting at maximum efficiency. You can easily land all the shotgun projectiles on enemy vanguard(tank) heroes since their bodies are usually large. You can 2 shot kill most heroes(except tanks) at close quarters. If you run out of ammo against a nearby enemy, you can swap to your sword to finish them off quickly. You should be careful against flying enemies since the projectiles require precise aim to be able to hit flying or very fast enemies. You might aim at their target direction to be able to hit them. Try to peek around corners and narrow passages so you could make good use of your shotgun without taking too much damage.

SCARLET SHROUD - RMB ABILITY
Blade starts parrying with his sword, becoming unstoppable for a while(0.4 seconds), reducing the damage taken from front and reducing the cooldown of shift ability(Daywalker Dash). Gains a slight movement speed bonus upon activation. Every 200 damage taken grants 1 charge of Daywalker Dash. Despite its low cooldown, you need to be careful while using parry because it doesn't make you immune to damage. It grants %80 damage reduction from front side.

How to use it?
You can block lots of damage(1750 damage) before dying without receiving any healing. If your healers help you then you can tank even more damage. It's better to use this against enemy abilities, especially the high damage ones such as ultimates. You can also use it in front of your teammates to be their shield and even save their lives in certain situations. This can be used as a distraction tool as well. If you manage to keep multiple enemy heroes shoot on you for a while, congrats because they are wasting their time 1v2, 1v3 etc. to deal %80 reduced damage to you. Your teammates can outnumber other enemies meanwhile which might win you the round. Distract them as long as you can! This ability is also effective against cc abilities, you cannot be swallowed by Jeff The Shark's ultimate for example. A good timing with this might save your life. You can also win 1vs1 situations by using this. If your opponent wastes their burst damage on your parry then you can easily take them down by making basic attacks. Lastly, it's good for quick get aways since blocking damage charges your dash ability. You can quickly dash away after using parry to save yourself when at low hp.

BLOODLINE AWAKENING - E ABILITY
Blade swaps to his sword, each of his attacks empower his attack speed up to 10 stacks. Blade gains lifesteal but suffers reduced healing from other sources. Shift(dash) ability can get Blade stacks and healing when this ability is active. Blade can also see enemies through walls briefly after damaging them during this ability. Blade starts making a special attack similar to Daywalker Dash's sword version every few hits while attacking at max stacks.

How to use it?
Simply activating this ability is much better than swapping to normal sword mode when you want to fight in melee. You can spam this as much as you want, it deals insane amount of damage per second if you manage to get max stacks. Plus you get more healing per second with the higher attack speed. It's extremely effective in versus situations. If you manage to parry or dodge your opponent's burst damage then you can easily finish them of with this ability. Just keep hitting them with your sword! You can take down most tanks just by using this ability and spamming LMB. You can gain stacks from Loki's clones, Namor's creatures, Rocket Racoon's turrets etc. to freely max your stacks. The best time to use this ability is against group of enemies, especially in narrow halls and rooms. Hitting multiple enemies with your sword grants you even more healing per second. You are simply undying if you manage to hit 3 or more enemies with every sword hit unless reduced healing is applied to you by your enemies. It's possible to get multi kills easily by using this. The only downside of this ability is you get less healing from your healers and healing orbs around the map so don't forget to turn it off if you are about to get healed by them. Using the shift(dash) ability with this ability might increase your damage output.

DAYWALKER DASH - SHIFT ABILITY
Dash forward, if you are wielding your shotgun it applies reduced healing(%40) to the enemy, if you are wielding your sword it applies slow(%35) to the enemy.

How to use it?
Sword dash deals more damage and more effective while chasing someone. You can slow them down to slash them to death. You can also dash 4 times in a row by using 2 dashes, parrying(rmb) and dashing 2 more times. You can swap to your shotgun and then dash to reduce the healing of the enemy you hit with this ability. Reducing healing is extremely useful against players who have pocket healing. Especially tanks will suffer a lot from this ability. Try landing this on low hp enemies so they won't be able to get healed which means a certain death for them. You might want to always save one of the two dash charges for your own safety. If you run out of dash charges then you are a sitting duck since Blade doesn't have mobility options other than his dash and ultimate abilities. Don't forget to use at least 2 dashes right after leaving the base to reach the objective faster in the beginning of the game.
Ultimate & Team-up Abilities

THOUSAND-FOLD SLASH - Q ABILITY(ULTIMATE)
Dash forward dealing damage and leaving a tunnel of thousand slashes which constantly deal damage for a while behind you. Direct hit deals 100 damage, following hits deal 225 damage per second for 2 seconds. It also applies %20 healing reduction. Takes a second to charge after activating the ability to launch the attack so be careful, if you get killed during that second your ultimate charge gets reset without launching the attack. Charging the ability up to 3 seconds increases the range.

How to use it?
This ability is pretty good for finishing low hp enemies and even full hp non-tank enemies. Smart opponents would walk away from this easily so try landing this on stunned enemies if possible. Surprise factor significantly increases your success chance of your ultimate ability since the unaware enemies would probably die inside of it before they realize what hit them. Try flanking the enemy team and hit them from rear or sides for maximum efficiency. Some maps contain narrow passages and halls, if the enemy team is grouped up in such place then it's the perfect time to use this ability for an easy multi kill. Enemies cannot run away nor get out of its range in time since when they are locked in a room. You can aim at a nearby wall or at the ground before using this ability to quickly deal damage around you while you are brawling with another melee hero. It's better to use it against group of enemies but if there's a very good player in the opposing team, you can use your ultimate to finish them off at a critical moment to win the round. Do not save your ultimate for the perfect moment. It charges very quickly so it's usually worth to use it whenever you are able to hit 2+ enemies with it.

NEW MOON - C ABILITY(TEAM-UP)
If a teammate picks the Cloak & Dagger hero, this ability is unlocked for Blade. He creates a smoke screen around himself. He heals himself every second for a small amount, becomes invisible and can make a special dash attack on nearby enemies by activating this ability again while aiming at the target enemy. Cloak & Dagger can also create a smoke screen for Blade.

How to use it?
It has a very long cooldown so be careful about it. Try not to waste this ability. It doesn't work well while retreating from fights because getting hit cancels the invisibility and the healing. It might be used to escape and sometimes to flank enemies. You can use this near an enemy to dash on them by activating the ability again. It doesn't deal much damage but you can quickly get them in your melee range by doing this.
Playstyles

Blade can be played as many roles, depending on the situation and the team comp. I will simply explain some of the most used Blade playstyles. You can be all of those below in the same match depending on the situation or u can pick one to stick for rest of the game if it works very well.

Fighter/Duelist Blade/
This is the most common playstyle. You could call it the default one. Blade's kits let him win every duel if he plays good enough. It's a mobile short-mid ranged fighter who can take down anyone 1v1. You need to use all of your abilities in harmony to utilize the kit. Finding the balance between the sword and shotgun would improve your performance well. He's best played with a supportive healer who can heal the Blade during his parry. Otherwise it's still powerful to play alone, reaching to healing orbs is relatively easy as Blade because of double dash.

Assassin Blade
You need to keep moving non-stop as an assassin. Always try flanking the enemy team, stay away from the battlefield front where the vanguard(tank) heroes clash. Try to attack enemy healers and duelists from their rear. You can quickly take down 1-2 of them and leave by dashing away, Blade is hard to catch with his 2-4 dashes in a row. You can also attack rest of the enemy team instead of retreating if your health is still in good condition after the fight. If more than 1 enemy hero starts chasing you across the map, you can simply keep dashing away and parry to gain dashes again. It's worth the trade as long as you are distracting more than 1 player.

Offtank Blade
If your team needs a tank or more tanking and if you don't wanna play as vanguard heroes then the Blade is the perfect choice! He has the highest health points among duelist heroes, still it's way less than vanguard(tank) heroes but the parry might make it up. %80 damage reduction with low cooldown + dashes would keep you alive for a long time while contesting objectives. Just be ready to retreat any time since you are weaker than other tanks about tanking.

Tank Destroyer Blade
If enemy vanguard(tank) heroes are annoying and dominating the game then it might be the time to start slaying them as Blade. Your E ability (BLOODLINE AWAKENING) is very useful for fighting tanks. Just spam sword attacks with it and use the healing reduction dash if needed. Upon reaching to max stacks, their tanks will melt down quickly unless their team concentrates their firepower on you. Most confident tanks would try taking you down 1v1 when you attack them and start retreating. Just lure them away from the objective and their healers, find a good room for you two and start slashing them. You should be winning the duel almost always.
When to Pick Blade? (Comp & Team-ups)
Blade is a powerful pick when:
  • If enemy team doesn't have any flying(Iron Man, Human Torch etc.) or extremely mobile(Black Panther, Spiderman etc.) heroes.
  • If enemy team doesn't have too much burst damage potential.
  • If your team doesn't have multiple close range heroes. If there is already a melee hero, it's probably not a good idea to make it 2 because your team might struggle against ranged enemies.
  • If your healers are completely ignoring you so you can finally survive and score alone.
  • If your team needs to get carried by a partly vampire god.
  • If the enemy team has too much healing potential.
  • If the enemy players are grouping up often and playing around each other. Good for your E and Q abilities.
  • If your team has a Cloak & Dagger hero so you can activate a team-up bonus.
Matchups(WORK IN PROGRESS)🛠️
10 Tips & Tricks
  • Do not fight in the open, make use of covers to utilize your close range fighting skills.
  • Do not forget to turn off your E ability(BLOODLINE AWAKENING) when ur done with it.
  • Don't be shy and ask for your teammates to pick Cloak & Dagger to activate an extra ability.
  • Don't hesitate to dive all in if you feel like you can secure a multi kill with your blade
  • Make sure you pick isolated targets and leave by dashing away
  • Be aware that your Shift ability (DAYWALKER DASH) sometimes doesn't deal damage when used in the shotgun mode. Enemies can dodge the shotgun's damage.
  • You can quickly climb up to buildings by using your dash to snipe(if there are enemies right below you) from above or set up an ambush.
  • 1 headshot with shotgun + sword dash + few melee attacks combo can quickly kill most heroes within 2-3 seconds if executed well.
  • Best way to counter enemy Blade as Blade is hitting them with the shotgun dash so you could apply healing reduction to them before you go all in with your E ability(BLOODLINE AWAKENING). By doing this, they cannot heal much but you can so you would simply win the melee fight. If this doesn't work, you can always make a shotgun duel from range. Whoever has the best aim wins.
  • When you flank an enemy hero, never start the fight with your blade. Instead, start it by shooting their head with your shotgun at least once from very close distance. This deals the highest burst damage in Blade's kit.

Official Trivia
  • Blade first appeared in "The Tomb of Dracula" (1972) #10 in July 1973.
  • Blade was portrayed by Wesley Snipes in the original Blade trinity.
  • A new Blade movie is being made by Marvel Studios.
  • Blade's first appearance in the game was during the Midnight Features II event at the Vampire Slayer Gone Missing mission.
  • Despite being African-British in the comics, this mission confirms that he's African-American in this game.
  • He could be seen in the Central Park map as a captive by Dracula during Season 1: Eternal Night Falls, but by Season 2: Hellfire Gala, he has since been freed and is now resting in Wakanda's Birnin T'Challa. During the Season 2.5 update, he has awaken from his sleep and leaves Wakanda.
  • Currently in the lore, Blade wields the sword of Dracula, following his defeat in Season 1. His previous weapon was his personal sword, seen at the "Fall of Midtown" Gallery card, battling against Dracula.
  • Blade was datamined from multiple sources around December 2024, along with 15 other characters, including Angela, Captain Marvel, Deadpool, Emma Frost, Hit-Monkey, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Mister Fantastic, M.O.D.O.K., Phoenix, The Hood, The Thing, Ultron, and Valkyrie.[2]
  • A possible remix of Confusion by New Order (Pump Panel Reconstruction Mix) is played in the background when Blade first appeared in the Season 3: The Abyss Awakens Official Trailer.
  • This acid techno song is also well-known as the Vampire Dance Club song in the Blade (1998) film.
  • The song also plays in the background when using his ultimate skill “Thousand-Fold Slash”.
  • Blade has several references from the Devil May Cry game series:
  • A voice line from Blade which he says "Bury the light" after a final hit from Thousand-Fold Slash. "Bury the Light" is Vergil's battle theme in Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition. Another voice line after a final hit from the Ultimate also has Blade say "Foolishness", a phrase also associated with Vergil.
  • When using Daywalker Dash Shotgun, Blade says "Silver bullet!", which is the same name of a remix of Nero's theme song, "Devil Trigger," used during his battle with Vergil after he activates his Devil Trigger transformation.
  • Daywalker Dash with the Ancestral Sword and the Hunter's Shotgun equipped resembles Dante's Stinger and Gun Stinger, respectively, while the dual sword whirling strike animation is similar to the Mirage Edge Combo B.
  • Blade's Thousand-Fold Slash is likely similar to Vergil's Rapid Slash.
  • Blade has many references to Wesley Snipes' portrayal of Blade in the films:
  • After a final hit on Luna Snow, he says "Somebody always trying to ice skate uphill". This references to the famous line from the movie Blade (1998).
  • When activating Bloodline Awakening, he says "I was born ready". This references to the Blade says before fighting Dracula in Blade: Trinity (2004), as well as the same line from Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
  • The default MVP animation ends on a similar pose to the theatrical poster of Blade (1998).
  • The "Blade Out" emoji has a similar pose to the theatrical poster of Blade II (2002).
  • The "Full of Confidence" emoji has a similar pose to Blade catching a glaive during the blood rave from Blade (1998).
  • After a final hit on the enemy Blade, he says "There's only one Blade", which references to the line from Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
