About Cases
  • The cases can be obtained and completed in any order (with the exception of The Fragments of St. Bookston, it can only be started after Mysterious Noises).

  • The Investigation Board must be equipped in order to investigate each case.

  • You will be given the Investigation Board when you obtain your first case.

  • A case needs to be active to make progress on it - i.e. pinned on the Investigation Board.

  • The active case can be swapped out on in the customisation screen.
Case: The Mascot Murder
The Case of the Hideous Mascot
Time to figure out who deflated Méga's latest mascot and confront them with the evidence!

One day when you visit Méga Marché you will find that the mascot has been deflated and roped off with press line as a crime scene. Fern will speak to you and The Case of the Hideous Mascot will begin.

There are four parts to solving this case:

Part One - Find the murder weapon

Interact with the garbage bin near where Fern stands while until it tips over, causing the weapon to fall out, pick it up to collect your first clue.

You found the murder weapon, a suspiciously unassuming kitchen knife...

Part Two - Ask about the CCTV footage

When Klaus visits you shop outside Méga, the conversation will naturally turn to the crime and the CCTV footage. Klaus will inform you that the footage has been deleted.

Looks like someone deleted the CCTV footage of the crime.

Part Three - Ask around about the knife

If you speak to Fern after finding the murder weapon, as well as congratulating you, he will suggest asking around about it. By "asking around" the game really means have the "A Knife" item equipped in your shop (it's a wall item) until someone talks to you about it and admits to it belonging to them.

Maryam is the owner of our murder weapon.

Part Four - The culprit

The owner of the knife mentions that it was lent to another person, identifying the culprit. Afterwards the culprit will visit your shop and notice the case on your investigation board and *hypothetically* discuss it with you.

Tilde borrowed Maryam's knife during the time of the murder!

Close the Case

Return to Fern at Méga Marché to talk about what you uncovered, answer however you wish.

CASE CLOSED.
You figured out who deflated the mascot and why. You might yet become a proper investigative journalist.
Case: The Mysterious 7th Rule
The Case of The Secret Seventh
Ask other business owners for help and find the lost rule from the first B.L.A.B.L.A. compendium.

After Moira and Maryam's argument at the Café and after you've completed Maryam's business course to gain B.L.A.B.L.A. membership, Moira will approach you about helping her find the mysterious seventh rule which will begin the Case of The Secret Seventh.

Step One: Talk to Walt

Visit the Waterfront and talk to Walt.
He has a rare second edition of The Official B.L.A.B.L.A. Compendium and he can be persuaded to sell it to you for 25 coins.

You found an "About the Author" section in Walt's copy.
The writer's name was Roderick Blighton, a native Bookstonian.
Maybe someone from the book trade would know more about him?

Step Two: Talk to Tilde

Wait for Tilde to visit your shop and she will tell you what she knows about Roderick Blighton.

Tilde told you more about Roderick Blighton, an eccentric 18th-century writer and local lighthouse keeper.
Let's share the news with Moira!

Step Three: Talk to Moira

Wait for Moira to visit your shop (if she didn't visit your shop and talk to you between steps one and two, her conversation about that will happen first and you'll have to wait another day to talk to her again).

With the information you received from Tilde, Moira will ask you to meet her at the Lighthouse to investigate the spirit of Roderick Blighton.

Talk to Moira and her friends (Bat and Rory) after nightfall and see what happens.

The skies have spoken. Roderick Blight's spirit must want you to investigate the lighthouse.

Step Four: Investigate the Lighthouse

Search the lighthouse and see what you find.

You found the long-lost seventh rule among Roderick Blighton's possessions. Maryam will be very interested in this document of B.L.A.B.L.A. history.

CASE CLOSED.
ANother mystery uncovered! What will Maryam think of this?
Case: Mysterious Noises
The Case of the Mysterious Noises
Mysterious and frankly unsettling noises have been heard from the sea caves. We must get to the bottom of this!

The shortest and most straightforward of the four cases.

Sometime after completing Harper's Sandcastle Project at the Far Beach, upon visiting the beach a roar will be coming from the caves. (The Mysterious Noises effect will be active, shown below the current weather.)

Harper will visit and speak to you about it, the conversation ending with her instructing you to meet her by the caves entrance when you are ready to investigate. She will also supply you with the Investigation Board if not already obtained.

Investigate the Caves

Speak to Harper by the caves entrance when ready to proceed (before closing up your shop for the day). Explore the caves with Harper to find some interesting things and begin the case of The Fragments of St. Bookston. Upon exiting the caves the source of the mysterious noises will be revealed.

CASE CLOSED.
Guess it wasn't a dinosaur after all!
Case: The Fragments of St. Bookston
The Case of The Fragments of St. Bookston
Who was St. Bookston really? And where do the strange fragments lead to? A case bound to reshape Bookstonbury's history!

You'll obtain this case while solving Case: Mysterious Noises.
There's a poem scrawled on the walls inside the sea caves!

For this case you will need to find the four fragments of an old family crest. The fragments can be collected in any order (with the exception of the first which you will automatically find with Harper as part of the start of the case).

Note: You will need to have the Archaeological Container equipped in order to collect the fragments (not including the first).

First Fragment - Investigate the Mysterious Noises

You will find the first fragment while investigating the beach caves for the mysterious noises. Harper will give you an Archaeological Container to collect all the fragments in.

A fragment of an old family crest, found in the sea caves.

Second Fragment - Fountain of St. Bookston at the Café

Interact and inspect the St. Bookston fountain near the Café to find another fragment.

A fragment of an old family crest, found in a hidden compartment at the café.

Third Fragment - Bust of St. Bookston

Unlike the other fragments, you won't find this one in particular location, rather it's in an item - the Bust of St. Bookston.

The Bust is given as a reward from Professor Wen upon completing Academic Relevance or available in the Seasonal section of the newspaper for 150 coins.

With the Bust and Archaeological Container equipped in your shop, Harper will visit and interact with the bust and discover another fragment.

Note: it is possible to obtain the Bust prior to beginning this case, and although the item description will prompt you to bring it to Harper nothing will happen until this case is active.

Fragment of an old family crest found inside the bust of St. Bookston. How did it even fit in there?

Fourth Fragment - Graveyard at the Castle Ruins

Inspect the graves at the Castle Ruins and identify which one belongs to St. Bookston.
Answer: Sophia Theodosia Bright

A fragment of an old family crest, found at the castle graveyard.

There was a fragment hidden at Sophia Theodosia Bright's grave - does this mean this is the real identity of St. Bookston? Huge if so!

Repairing the St. Bookston Family Crest

After collecting all four fragments, Harper will visit your shop to collect the pieces for restoration, promising to return them tomorrow.

The next day she will return with the reassembled St. Bookston Family Crest for your shop.

The Secret of St. Bookston

Visit the University and interact with the statute of St. Bookston to inspect it and find the slot where the finished crest should go (after you collect all the fragments).

A suspiciously shaped slot at the base of the statue of St. Bookston at the University.

The next time you visit the University with the restored crest (and after discovering the slot on the statue where the crest should go), Harper will visit your shop and tell you to meet her by the statue when you are ready.

With Harper by the statue, together you insert the crest and uncover the secret of St. Bookston.

CASE CLOSED.
A hidden library! And St. Bookston was really Sophia Theodosia Bright! The town will be abuzz for years to come.

@gilmouroyster have you checked that the correct case is pinned onto the caseboard? Otherwise I don’t have any idea why the case isn’t progressing. The characters sometimes prioritise conversations strangely, so it might be that other events have taken precedence, but I’m assuming they’ve both visited your shop multiple times at this point.

I have finished the 7th rule, but for some reason I could never finish the Mascot Murder, neither Tilde nor Maryam react when I have the knife and caseboard in the shop - anyone else experience this?
