An Everything Guide of VOIN
By DJ of Ochivaval
Being a new Early Access, there is little information of it. Here I will try to cover all what I have learnt so far.

Intro
You are a construct of lighting, commanded by an unknown Master. This Master gives you life because he needs... I don't know, but the world is filled with demons and seems good to slay them.

Being made of lighting, your actions are fast, and speed is plenty. This affects your combat and movement. The world is a big place and there is a lot of meat to slash so be thankful!

(This is my first guide, I hope you find it useful.)

Basics
There are two main things in VOIN: traveling and fighting. The former you do by sheathing your weapon and the latter with it in your hand. Let's see the differences.

  • Without weapon (travel mode!) you walk faster, you have an additional jump, when you press dash you run a little bit and you can ULTRA DASH, your star action. You can ultra dash forward, backward, up, down, wherever you want. Before, during or after an ultra dash you can jump. Gaining extra height will make your ultra dashes longer: an ultra dash costs two dash charges, and the higher you are, the more time you have to recharge them before falling.
The default key for Ultra Dash is CTRL
You can reach veeery high places.

  • In combat mode you can't fly, you move at normal pace and you have a limited jump. This time, DASH is your favorite move. A quick dodge in any direction. If you dash at the same time an enemy launches an attack, it will be a Perfect Dash, which will make you invulnerable and can trigger a lot of nice effects.
    So next section is...

Basic Combat
Weapon in hand, it's time to slash some monsters
There are 3 different attacks in the game:
  • Quick swing, by default Left Mouse. All light swings are horizontal, do the damage written in their stats (that you can increase with multipliers, more of this later) and cost you nothing. Beware, not all light swings are equal, you can see the speed of the swings in the weapon description.

  • Charged attack, performing by holding your light attack key. Once charged, you can hold it and release it whenever you want. Again, they are horizontal. They do a higher damage, as expected, and have the chance of knock back the hit enemy. However, this will cost you a knock back charge, those 3 golden tokens above your dash charges (when full they are hidden, and appear when you spend at least one of them)

  • Strike attack, your only vertical attack, performed by default with Right Mouse. This kind of attack have some special effects. It can also be charged and later released. A strike attack by itself will do more or less its equivalent of a light or charged attack, but will trigger the power of the runes imbued in the weapon. Some powers require all your rune charges, others have different power depending of the runes currently charged. This effects are varied, from a lighting chain, healing or applying negative buffs to the enemies. Its use is then situational.
Then we have your defensive tool, the Dash. There is no block or parry in the game, the only way to avoid damage is by dodging incoming attacks. The Dash is a medium distance dodge, by default the Shift key (I recommend binding it to a more accessible one, like a thumb mouse button if you have them).
A Perfect Dash occurs when you Dash while an enemy attacks, no matter the distance between the enemy and you. This precise time is announced by a clear yellow outline on the enemy attacking. Yellow outline = Dash. Perfect Dash grants brief invulnerability and triggers the corresponding effects of your gear tied to it.
That's all you need to know to kill some mobs.
The Powers
There are currently three powers that can be performed in combat or outside of it (although, as they are mostly offensive, why would you do that?). Powers are unlocked by acquiring Motes, which are multicoloured energy orbs hidden throughout the levels. Currently, there are more Motes than Powers, so I guess future updates will introduce more ways to spend them.

The powers:
  • Runic Charge (default key 1): Charges your weapon with lightning, adding elemental damage and replenishing all weapon runes. Your attacks and movement speed also increase while it lasts. You can charge this power by hitting enemies (you don't need to kill them).
  • Vortex / Whirlwind (key 2): Depending on your weapon, you throw it spinning in front of you, damaging enemies that enter its area of effect while they remain in it. Great for controlling hordes or big enemies with slow movement. The other variant makes you spin with your weapon in hand and allows you to move around while this happens. It's basically a long swing covering 360 degrees multiple times in a chain. This variant is more dangerous as it requires you to be in close proximity to your enemies.
This power recharges after a period of time.
  • Lightning Sting (key 3) is the most complex power. It launches you into the air in slow motion with your weapon in a thrusting stance. You then have time to aim where you want to land. After a short time, or when you press the light attack button, you are propelled in the chosen direction at high speed, inflicting great damage on all the enemies you pierce. There is a second variant reserved for some heavy weapons where you strike overhead instead of thrusting, but the mechanic is the same.
Again, this power is dependent on the cooldown timer.
Equipment
There is already a good guide on this, so I will link it:

Beware it will spoil you the thrill of finding a new class of enemy.
Upgrading your gear
You can access the Molten Cathedral in your home base. Here, you can purge any corrupted items by interacting with the green orb in the central area after a brief teleport.
This orb is surrounded by pillars displaying your current gear loadout.Item quality goes like this:
  • Grey: Fledgling
  • Blue: Elder
  • Purple: Ancient
  • Teal: Primeval
Interacting with any of the items on the pillars allows you to upgrade with a hefty ichor 'donation'.
Once an item reaches the Purple tier, a random number generator (RNG) mechanic is involved when upgrading to Teal. Grey to Purple increases the weapon ability by one level, whereas Teal items roll the next stat between +5 and +7.
I recommend gathering several Purple items of the Primeval you want to obtain so that you can upgrade several times, hoping to get a +7 variant. The Necromantic Goblet only got +5, whereas the Pocket Cloud got +7. There is a notable difference in the stats, so aim for +7 or at least +6.
Primeval items don't level up anymore
Instead, they acquire a Satiety level. You can increase their Satiety level from 1 to 6 by dropping unwanted/low-level gear into the altar below. Each level increases a unique buff for the piece of gear; in this case, it increases the amount of ichor received.
Firstborn Gear
At some point, your inventory will be full of Primeval gear. Then, you can choose two pieces, fully satiate them to level six, and merge them in the forge.
