Slender Fortress Modified: Boss Hearing Tips
By Cam
Most of these tips mainly apply to the 1.8.0 versions of Slender Fortress Modified, and are based upon my own experience with the game's mechanics in it.

Locational Boss Hearing
As of some of the newer Slender Fortress versions, when bosses hear you they will go towards the last sound you made rather than just walking right to your position, even if you're moving around quietly. As of version 1.8, crouch walking makes no noise, so if you're stuck behind a corner, and a boss heard you, try and crouch walk to safety.
Crouch Tapping
In certain situations, sometimes you can't just crouch walk to cover in time, or even crouch sprint. That's where crouch tapping comes in, essentially, you hold your crouch key, let go of the key to gain a bit of a speed boost from walking, crouch again just after you moved from walking and rinse and repeat until you are in the spot you want to go in. You have do this quick or otherwise when you are walking, the boss will hear you. There is a delay after you uncrouch that you don't make noise from walking after about half a second.

The same thing could be said for tap walking, however it is a little more dangerous since there is a chance you could produce a sound.
Crouch Sprint
Simply put, you can press your sprint key, *default being middle mouse* while crouching, it gives you a slight speed boost and wastes stamina. It can potentially make certain bosses autochase you as you are technically sprinting.

PS: The console command for sprint is "+sprint" for anyone wanting a bind for it, or just use your Special Attack bind, that works too.
Hearing Range
Every boss has a certain range of hearing in game that is specified in their .cfg files, *in Hammer Units I believe*. Every sound, like walking, sprinting, voice commands, and swinging your melee inside of this radius will cause the boss to investigate the source of the noise. When you are outside of the radius, the boss will not be able to hear any of the sounds you make. The loudness of the sounds do not matter.
Jumping & Crouching
Sometimes jumping and crouching right after you land can help you get away from the boss more easier, not create noise to the boss and provides a much more larger speed boost than crouch tapping. However, you will lose some stamina jumping. You will have to jump inside of the gap of time while getting momentum before you make a conceivable noise to the boss while walking *half a second* in order to make this work.
snd_mixahead command
snd_mixahead is a command that sets the length of the audio buffer which directly affects audio delay ingame. lowering the value of the command makes the audio sound more instant and reduces delay, but may introduce glitches if the value is too low. It's recommended to adjust this until the audio glitches are gone.
