GENERAL NOTES
DIFFICULTY DOESN’T AFFECT ACHIEVEMENTS
The game can be played on either Very Easy or Very Hard and this will not affect the achievements so play with what feels best. For this guide I did everything on ‘Normal’ so some tips may be excessive or not good depending on what you’re playing on.

NORMAL AND HARDCORE
Aside from 1 achievement (Hardcore) the rest can be obtained in either mode on any difficulty.

NO GLITCHES OR EXPLOITS WERE USED
This guide was written with no glitches or exploits being used in any capacity (such as reaching max level before leaving Goodsprings or getting 1,000,000 caps by using the chip duplication glitch)

CONSOLE COMMANDS AFFECT ACHIEVEMENTS
Using console commands in any way will disable all achievements for that play session and can fail culminative achievements (such as winning 30 hands of Caravan). This guide was written with no console commands being used in any capacity.

DLC DOESN’T AFFECT ACHIEVEMENTS
Any equipment obtained from the Courier’s Stash, Gun Runners Arsenal or the new crafting consumables doesn’t disable any achievements, so feel free to use them. This guide was written without any of the DLCS being used.
QUESTS
This section refers to achievements that are tied to a Quest or Side Quest.
GENERAL
These quests are required to be completed in order to reach the ending.
  • Ain't That a Kick in the Head
  • They Went That-a-Way
  • Ring-a-Ding-Ding
'Ain't That a Kick in the Head'
Ain't That a Kick in the Head
Complete Ain't That a Kick in the Head.

The very first Quest given to you when you begin the game which also acts as a tutorial. Upon waking up, you'll need to:
• Customise your appearance
• Set your SPECIAL stats
• Pick your Tag Skills and Traits
• Pick whether to play in Hardcore or not (check the Hardcore section for more info. For now you’ll want to select ‘no’)
• Once you select ‘yes’ or ‘no’ the Quest is completed.

Simply follow the instructions given and before you leave Doc Mitchel’s you’ll be prompted if you want to play in Normal or Hardcore Mode. For now select ‘Normal’.

After selecting your desired mode the Quest is completed and you’ll unlock the achievement.
'They Went That-a-Way'
They Went That-a-Way
Complete They Went That-a-Way.

This Quest is automatically given after leaving Doc Mitchel's home. To earn this you'll need to locate Benny at The Tops casino.

If you already know where The Strip is you can beeline it there immediately. Otherwise you'll need to complete the below steps:

1a) SPEAK TO SUNNY
After leaving Doc Mitchel’s home, head to the Prospector’s Saloon and talk to Sunny Smiles about learning how to survive. Complete the tutorial (either the minimum about shooting Sarsaparilla Bottles or the whole thing including clearing out Geckos and crafting items) and then return to the Prosector’s Saloon.

1b) SPEAK TO TRUDY
Speak to Trudy and ask if she saw a man in a checkered suit. She’ll direct you towards Primm.

2a) SPEAK TO DEPUTY BEAGLE
Head to Primm which is located South of Goodsprings and speak to Johnson Nash in the Vicki and Vance Casino about a man in a checkered suit. He'll then direct you to rescue Deputy Beagle inside the Bison Steve Hotel who would know more information.

2b) RESCUE DEPUTY BEAGLE
Once inside the Bison Steve Hotel you’ll need to fight through several Escaped Convicts to reach Deputy Beagle. After rescuing Beagle, he'll then direct you to Novac through Nipton.

3) REACHING NOVAC AND SPEAKING TO MANNY
After reaching Nipton you'll then need to go through the mountains and you'll come upon Novac. Be careful as various enemies will be hidden in the mountains and behind signs. Locate Manny Vargas inside the Dinky the T-Rex Statue and talk to him if he remembered seeing a man in a checkered suit come through. He'll ask you to clear the REPCONN Test Site of Ghouls and in exchange he'll tell you what he knows. This will lead you to the Quest 'Come Fly With Me' which is also an Achievement (see that individual entry for more info)

4) RETURNING TO MANNY
After completing 'Come Fly With Me' Manny will direct you to Boulder City and from there the Quest 'Boulder City Showdown' can begin.

5) BOULDER CITY SHOWDOWN
Upon reaching Boulder City, speak to Lt Monroe to begin 'Boulder City Showdown' and speak to Jessup who is holed up in a building at the far end. Talk to him and from there he'll direct you to The Strip.

5a) SPEAK TO JESSUP
After talking to Jessup the Quest will be completed and the achievement will be unlocked.
'Ring-a-Ding-Ding'
Ring-a-Ding-Ding
Complete Ring-a-Ding-Ding!

After locating Benny inside The Tops casino, you'll need to confront him. This Quest can be completed in two ways:

OPTION 01: KILL BENNY
There are multiple ways to complete this objective.

1a) LOUD OPTION
Open fire immediately and kill Benny. *This is not recommended as it'll make all Chairmen hostile and fail the Side Quest 'Talent Pool' which is also an Achievement (see that entry for more information) Complete ‘Talent Pool’ first and then open fire if you’re not concerned with being liked in The Tops.

1b) QUIET OPTION
Convince Benny to come with you to his Suite and from there you can kill him. You can either silently kill him or if you’re a female Courier and have the ‘Black Widow’ perk you can sleep with him and then murder him in his sleep. Doing either will not make The Tops hostile and you won’t fail the ‘Talent Pool’ Quest

1c) END RESULT
Whichever option you pick, once you collect the Platinum Chip off his body the Quest will be completed and achievement is unlocked.

OPTION 02: BENNY ESCAPES
If Benny manages to escape (either by agreeing to go to his VIP Suite or not killing him after sleeping with him) you'll need to instead search his Suite and talk to Yes Man. Talking to Yes Man completes the Quest and you’ll unlock the achievement.
FACTION SPECIFIC
For this section, these are all the story related achievements.

While it is possible to do multiple faction Story Quests at the same time, I'll be treating this guide as if I'm only focusing solely on one Faction at a time (except for 'You'll Know It When It Happens' read that entry for more information).

*There are multiple ways to complete quests. I only wrote the method I used, feel free to experiment!

You’ll discover that there is a bomb on it and will require a [EXPLOSIVES_50] or [REPAIR_50] to disarm it. If you don’t posses the required skill level, you’ll need to get the detonator from the Engineer who is among the crowd. You’ll know it’s him as he can be spoken to and doesn’t have a positive reaction. You’ll need to pickpocket the detonator off of him.

3b) ASSASSIN ON THE LOOKOUT TOWER
Sometime during the President’s speech, you’ll notice an NCR Ranger go flying off the tower. If you head to the tower you can spot the Ranger’s body. Entering the tower roof, you can speak to the Assassin and once he finds out he has been made, he’ll turn hostile. You’ll be able to kill him normally.

NOTES
• If you take too long during his speech the Assassin will take a shot and kill him. If the Assassin is dealt with but not the bomb, the President will die in the vertibird explosion.
• The engineer may sometimes attempt to charge at the President if his cover has been made, normally the Rangers will stop him but be prepared to in case they can’t in time. If you don’t talk to him or let Ranger Grant know, he won’t make an attempt.
• This quest is shared with Mr House and Yes Man questlines and works the exact same, President Kimball needs to survive

5) THE SECOND BATTLE
After reporting back to Colonel Moore, let her know the President has been safely evacuated. She’ll say then direct you to meet with General Lee Oliver to get ready for the Second Battle. Mortimer explains that the original guest intended to be served was Carlyle St. Clair III, who has escaped. You’ll need to locate Carlyle St. Clair III convince him to go back to the Ultra-Luxe by:
OPTION 01: Pass a [SPEECH_45] to convince him to return so he can clear his name
OPTION 02: Ask about the pain in the neck he has and you can choke him unconscious with a [STRENGTH_7] or [UNARMED_45].
Either way, drag his unconscious body into the nearby dumpster and Mortimer will send his men to discreetly return him back to the Ultra-Luxe.

4e) REPORT BACK TO MORTIMER
Once you’ve advised Mortimer that Ted is reunited with his father and Carlyle St. Clair is captured, he’ll thank you for helping him return the White Glove Society back to its roots.

4f) REPORT BACK TO CAESAR
Once you have their support return back to Caesar and tell him that the White Glove Society will work with him.

cont
'Render Unto Caesar' cont
5) DESTROY THE BoS
Caesar will task you with destroying the local Brotherhood of Steel (BoS) Chapter located somewhere near Hidden Valley.

5a) HEAD TO HIDDEN VALLEY AND ENTER THE BUNKER
OPTION 01: You can immediately open fire and then brute force your way through the bunker, however there are several Paladins in Power Armor and you’ll have a lot of them to fight. You’ll need to clear out all BoS personnel in the bunker.
OPTION 02: If you have Veronica as an active companion you can enter the bunker and then do Option 01 or initiate the self-destruct sequence by hacking the terminal at the very end of the bunker [SCIENCE_100] or by pickpocketing the 3 Keycards carried by Elder McNamara (or Hardin if ‘Still in the Dark’ is completed Elder McNamara (or Hardin if ‘Still in the Dark’ is completed and McNamara was replaced), Paladin Ramos and Scribe Taggart. Once you’ve initiated the self-destruct sequence you’ll need to rush out. Once outside the bunker will explode.
OPTION 03: If you don’t have Veronica you’ll be stripped of all gear and have a bomb collar placed on you. You’ll then need to complete the first stage of ‘Still in the Dark’ to get the collar off you, afterwards it’ll continue the same as Option 01 or Option 02.

Whichever option you choose you can then report back to Caesar to finish this quest and unlock the achievement. *Completing this quest and reporting back to Caesar will fail the NCR questline.

6) ET TUMOR, BRUTE?
After reporting back, Caesar will tell you that he is slowly dying and doesn’t have much time and needs you to find a way to save him. There are several SKILL CHECKS that can be used, make sure to diagnose him first during the initial conversation with a [MEDICINE_75] or else you’ll only be left with one option.
OPTION ONE: To perform the surgery yourself, you’ll need to acquire a set of Surgical Tools from Dr Usanagi at the New Vegas Medical Clinic. Once you return, Caesar will be prepped for surgery and you can then attempt surgery or if you have a [LUCK_9] and the Surgical Tools you can then attempt it that way.
OPTION TWO: If you don’t have the required [MEDICINE] or [LUCK] you’ll need to locate a Diagnostic Scanning Module inside Vault 34. Vault 34 is completed flooded with radiation and both Feral Ghouls and Glowing Ones. Once you’ve retrieved the Module, return back and install it on the Mark III Auto-Doc and activate surgery mode to successfully remove Caesar’s tumor.

If you fail the above either accidentally or purposefully, you’ll be confronted by Lucius who will accuses you of killing him. If you have a Liked or higher Legion reputation, you can convince him [MEDICINE_50], [SPEECH_50] that it was an accident. *If you fail this, the Legion will turn hostile and this questline will fail and render ‘Arizona Killer’ and ‘Veni, Vidi, Vici’ unobtainable.

Once Caesar is alive and well (or you successfully lie) you’ll then move onto the next stage.
'Arizona Killer'
Arizona Killer
Complete Arizona Killer.

Caesar (or Lucius if Caesar died during his operation) will task you with assassinating President Kimball when he arrives to give his speech in order to demoralise NCR Troops. Once you’ve received the quest, meet with Cato Hostilius and speak to him to begin the quest proper. *Make sure you have what you need as leaving Hoover Dam once you tell Cato you’re ready will fail the quest.

1) MEET WITH CATO
Meet with Cato and tell him you’re ready. The game will advance to morning and he’ll give you an NCR Ranger Disguise to blend in with the crowd.

2) TRAVEL TO HOOVER DAM
Travel to Hoover Dam and Cato will tell you to speak with him once you’re ready. Use this time to explore and see what options you have available. Once you’ve looked around, speak to Cato and President Kimball will arrive.

3) PRESIDENT KIMBALL ARRIVES
You’ll have roughly 4 minutes to kill President Kimball or make plans to kill him, some options are:

3a) THE DIRECT OPTION
Head to the Watch Tower directly in front of the stage and kill the NCR Ranger stationed there. Once he is taken care of, you can then kill President Kimball from there. I recommend using a scoped weapon such as the Sniper Rifle, Anti-Material Rifle or Hunting Revolver as they have the range and can kill President Kimball in a single hit with a stealth critical bonus, this will however turn all immediate NCR personnel hostile and might be hard to escape.

3b) SUBTLE OPTIONS
EXPLOSIVES - OPTION 01: A bomb can be planted on Bear Force One by passing an [EXPLOSIVES_50] skill check to get the explosives from Cato. Sneak / persuade ([SPEECH_50] Private Jensen and then plant the bomb inside the Vertibird. Once President Kimball’s speech is done, he’ll leave and the bomb will explode once the Vertibird takes off.
EXPLOSIVES - OPTION 02: Private Jeremy Watson is going to be awarded a medal by President Kimball but is missing his helmet. You can find his missing helmet inside the visitor centre and by passing a [EXPLOSIVE_50[ and having a brick of C4, you can stuff the C4 inside his helmet. Let Jeremy know where his helmet is and once he has it, let Cato know you’re ready. When Jeremy is invited on stage and is near President Kimball, detonate the C4 charge.
REPAIR – OPTION 01: Rig the Anti-Aircraft gun to explode with a [REPAIR_50]. The Anti-Aircraft gun will explode once Jeremy is called onto stage.
SCIENCE OPTION 01: Just before the Vertibird lands, hack the terminal inside the visitor center with a [SCIENCE_50] and this will cause the Vertibird to crash into the Hoover Dam
SCIENCE OPTION 02: Reprogram the Anti-Aircraft gun to shoot down Bear Force One. At the top of the exterior staircase is a small console, use a [SCIENCE_50] to hack it to redirect its guns at Bear Force One. Once the Vertibird is airborne, it’ll get gunned down.

Once President Kimball has been successfully assassinated, report back to Caesar / Lucius and you’ll complete the quest and unlock the achievement.

4) PREPARING FOR THE SECOND BATTLE
Caesar / Lucius will be happy that you successfully killed President Kimball and advises that Legate Lanius has already set-up and is prepared to fight. This will trigger the Point of No Return dialogue. If you’re not ready, back out and get what you need. Once you’re ready, speak to Caesar again and say you’re ready. This will complete the quest
'Veni, Vidi, Vici'
Veni, Vidi, Vici
Complete Veni, Vidi, Vici.

After telling Caesar you’re ready, you will appear in The Legate’s war camp and must report to Legate Lanius to begin the battle proper. You’ll start off in Caesar’s Legion’s camp and must fight through the Hoover Dam surface, taking out NCR Troops and Snipers. After that, you’ll need to breach the Hoover Damn powerplant substations and fight through before reaching where General Lee Oliver has set-up his post. Fight through the gauntlet of NCR Heavy Troops and you’ll finally reach General Lee Oliver.

Oliver can be talked down and surrender with a [SPEECH_100] or you can fight him. *Be warned, unlike the NCR, House and Yes Man endings where he’ll have NCR Rangers he will instead be surrounded with NCR Heavies

Once Oliver and his squad is dealt with, report back to Legate Lanius who will compliment your handiwork in securing the dam and your hard work will be rewarded.

Once you’ve rolled credits you’ll have completed the game and unlock this achievement.
YES MAN / INDEPENDENT VEGAS QUESTLINE
Yes Man is located in Benny’s suite inside The Tops Casino and can be interacted with once Benny is dealt with. Speak to Yes Man and ask him what he is doing and what Benny’s plan was to kick off his questline.
'Wild Card'
Wild Card
Complete Wild Card

Wild Card refers to a series of quests that must be completed in order to finish the game with Yes Man and have an Independent New Vegas.

1) WILD CARD: ACE IN THE HOLE
Once Benny has been dealt with (either killed or he has left for The Fort) head to his suite and speak to Yes Man about Benny’s plans to take over New Vegas. Yes Man will agree to help you and give you 3 quests to do:

2) WILD CARD: CHANGE IN MANAGEMENT
To terminate Mr House you’ll need to access the Control Room where his physical body is. This can be achieved in one of three ways
• [SCIENCE_75] to hack the terminal
• Have a Lucky 38 VIP Card that can be found at the resort building at Camp Golf or in Anthony House’s office at the H&H Tools Factory
• Have the Platinum Chip
*Doing any of the above will turn all of the Securitrons inside the Penthouse hostile, however those in the casino, along The Strip and at the North Gate will remain neutral

Once you’re inside, activate the terminal that controls Mr House’s life support. Choose to open his chamber and immediately attack him or speak to him and then either attack him or leave him exposed or a secret third thing. Either option will kill him and complete the Quest.

Return back to Yes Man once Mr House has been dealt with.

3) WILD CARD: YOU AND WHAT ARMY?
Yes Man will ask you to travel to Cottonwood Cove in order to install the MkII operating system upgrade.

3a) TRAVEL TO COTTONWOOD COVE
Assuming you don’t have a negative reputation with Caesar’s Legion you can head to Cottonwood Cove and take the barge into The Fort. Upon arrival your equipment will be confiscated (but don’t worry you’ll get it back temporarily and whenever you leave) and you’ll be instructed to meet Caesar.

3b) “WORK” WITH CAESAR
Speak with Caesar who wants you to work for him, agree to do so and he’ll task you with heading to the Weather Monitoring Station at the far end of the camp and destroy whatever you find there

3c) UPGRADE THE SECURITRONS
Head to the Weather Monitoring Station and progress through until you reach the very end. Be prepared as there are active Turrets and Protectrons. Use the Platinum Chip to upgrade the Securitrons to the MkII software and return back to Yes Man to complete the Quest. *You can optionally destroy the generators but doing so will make the Securitrons weaker during the Second Battle for Hoover Dam

3d) REPORT BACK TO YES MAN
Return back to Yes Man and let him know that the MkII operating software has been installed.

4) WILD CARD: SIDE BETS
Yes Man will instruct you to explore the neighbouring factions spread across the Mojave and decide if you want to destroy them, aid them or leave them be.

4a) WHO TO CONTACT
You'll need to make contact with the 5 different tribes across the Mojave:
• The Brotherhood of Steel
• The Ormetas
• The White Glove Society
• The Great Khans
• The Boomers

4b) WHO TO IGNORE
In order to leave them alone you must make contact, the below are the minimum requirements:
• The Ormetas – Talk to the greeter
• The White Glove Society – Talk to Mortimer
• The Great Khans – Discovering Red Rock Canyon
• The Boomers – Talking to Pearl
• The Brotherhood of Steel
OPTION 01: Attacking the BoS Soldiers during the night as they leave the Hidden Valley bunker.
OPTION 02: Enter the BoS Bunker alone and you'll be greeted by 4 BoS Soldiers in Power Armor who will force you to assist them. From this point you can refuse and attack them leading to option 01. Otherwise you’ll be stripped of all gear and have a bomb collar placed on you. You’ll then need to complete the first stage of ‘Still in the Dark’ to get the collar off you
OPTION 03: If you have Veronica as a companion, she’ll help you gain access and small scripted talk with Paladin Ramos will begin. It'll play out the same as option 2 but you won't be forced to complete the first stage of the 'Still in the Dark' Quest.

4c) WHO TO HELP
If you’re wanting to help the Factions the below side quests are required. Otherwise you can tell Yes Man you plan to ignore them.
• The Brotherhood of Steel – ‘Still in the Dark’ & ‘Eyesight to the Blind’
• The Ormetas – ‘How Little we Know’
• The White Glove Society – ‘Beyond the Beef’
• The Great Khans – ‘Oh My Papa’
• The Boomers – ‘Volare’

Once the above have been done, return to Yes Man and the Quest will be completed.

5) WILD CARD: FINISHING TOUCHES
Once Wild Card: Ace in the Hole, Change in Management, You and What Army? And Side Bets are completed, Yes Man will request you to complete a few final finishing touches before triggering the Point of No Return

5a) POWERING THE SUBSTATION
Head to the El Dorado substation, North-West of HELIOS One. NCR Troops will be patrolling around and will open fire if you enter the substation. You can either use a Stealth Boy / Sneak or NCR Faction Armor and while disguised go inside. Either way once inside install the override chip and then leave

6) PREVENTING PRESIDENT KIMBALL’S ASSASSINATION
Yes Man wants you to make sure President Kimball isn’t assassinated when he arrives at Hoover Dam to give his speech to the troops. *Make sure to have a reputation of accepted or higher or else the quest will automatically fail.

6a) YOU’LL KNOW IT WHEN IT HAPPENS
For a detailed breakdown of this quest please see the ‘You’ll Know It When It Happens’ Quest entry

6b) BEGINNING YOU’LL KNOW IT WHEN IT HAPPENS
Travel to Hoover Dam and speak with Ranger Grant about the upcoming visit and do a security sweep. Make sure to locate the possible threats and deal with them. Once the President has successfully completely his speech and has left, report back to Yes Man to complete the quest.

7) REQUESTING FOLLOWERS OF THE APOCALYPSE AID
Head to the Old Mormon Fort and speak to Julie Farkas about assisting you as there will be heavy casualties after the final battle is completed. You’ll need an Idolised or higher reputation in order to recruit The Followers services. The below are ways to achieve Followers fame:
• Short-Term Treatment – Donate 10 x Radaway, Med-X or Fixer
• Long-Term Care – Speak to James Garrett at the Atomic Wrangler and talk about setting up a deal with The Followers to keep them having a consistent chem supply flowing
• Friend of the Followers – This consists of ‘Short-Term Treatment’ and ‘Long-Term Care’
• High Times – Help 2 struggling addicts Bill Ronte and Jacob Huff get cleaned up as they both provide valuable services to Freeside
• Cry Me a River – Ask Julie if Jerry the Punk can join The Followers

6) REPORT BACK TO YES MAN
Once you’ve completed ‘Wild Card: Finishing Touches’ you’ll need to speak with Yes Man who advises that the time for the Second Battle is about to begin. This will trigger the Point of No Return dialogue. If you’re not ready, back out and get what you need. Once you’re ready, speak to Yes Man again and say you’re ready. This will complete the quest and unlock the achievement.
'No Gods, No Masters'
No Gods, No Masters
Complete No Gods, No Masters.

Once you’ve told Yes Man you’re ready, you’ll begin the Second Battle. You’ll start off at one end of Hoover Dam and must fight through Legion Troops and NCR Soldiers whilst being assisted with Securitrons. The objectives will take you across the dam and then later into the lower levels before resurfacing and fighting into The Legion’s camp.

After fighting through some more Legionnaires you’ll be faced with Legate Lanius who can be talked down and retreat with a [SPEECH_100]. Otherwise you’ll need to fight him. Once the Legate has been dealt with, return back to the entrance and General Lee Oliver will greet you. He’ll thank you for your help in securing New Vegas for The Republic and you can tell him your true plans, which will lead you to convincing him to stand down or fighting him.

Whichever option was chosen, speak to Yes Man about how you two will have a lot of work to do in securing the future of a Free New Vegas.

Once you’ve rolled credits you’ll have completed the game and unlock this achievement.
SIDE QUESTS
These aren’t story related and don’t need to be completed to reach an ending. Whilst some of them do tie into Faction Questlines they can also be completed independently.
'Volare!'
Volare!
Complete Volare!

Located to the North-East is Nellis Air Force Base, home to the Boomers who keep raiders and unsavoury types away using their high ordinance and firepower.

1) REACHING THE BOOMERS
The path leading towards the gate is littered with several bombed out homes and craters. As soon as you walk past the warning signs they’ll begin raining down missiles at you. My strategy is to remove all armor (to move faster and save on the condition) and hug the left-most wall and sprint towards the fence. You will take damage but as long as you keep sprinting you’ll survive it. Once you reach the main gates a Boomer will stop you and ask you to state your business. Say you want to meet the leader and they’ll take you in. *It isn’t required to speak with George who hangs around just before the warning signs but you can speak to him to get tips and possibly gamble and earn caps

2) SPEAK TO PEARL
Pearl will talk about being happy to meet an outsider and is hoping if you help around the base people will be more accepting of outsider help. Agree to help and you’ll start the Quest. Now you’ll need to help around so they will trust you.

3) BECOMING IDOLISED
There are several quests that can be done to earn Fame. The main three quests are
• Young Hearts – Help Jack achieve love
• Ant Misbehavin’ – Get rid of the Ants inside the Satellite Array Generator Room
• Sunshine Boogie – Repair the Satellite Arrays

There are some unmarked quests as well:
• Boomer History – Talk to Pete at the Boomer museum and then ask him questions. If you don’t meet the required SKILL CHECKS make sure to respond positively to get Boomer fame
• Bear Necessities – Locate a missing teddy bear for Lindsay
• Malleable Mini Boomer Minds – Interact positively with the Mini Boomers
• Missing a Few Missiles – Give Missiles to Raquel (repeatable)
• Iron and Stealing – Give scrap Metal to Jack (repeatable)
• Boomer’s Doctor – You can help 3 injured Boomers by passing various [MEDICINE] skill checks. You’ll need at least [MEDICINE_60] to successfully pass all 3.

4) COMPLETING VOLARE
After becoming Idolized, return to Mother Pearl and she’ll direct you to Loyal to ask about raising the crashed B-29 Plane from Lake Mead. Talk to Loyal and he’ll tell you where to go and how to raise the B-29.
*Make sure to ask about how to breathe underwater and then craft the Rebreather with Jack or else you’ll no longer be able to make it

4a) REACHING LAKE MEAD
Head to Callville Bay but be careful as there will be Deathclaws and Cazadores scattered around. I recommend you pack a fully automatic weapon or a Grenade Rifle, Launcher or Grenade Minigun. While the Deathclaws can be avoided by crouching and hugging the opposite side of the road, Cazadores can spot you easily and will charge, usually in groups. They are hard but more manageable to handle than Deathclaws.

4b) ATTACHING THE BALLASTS
Once you’ve reached Callville Bay and cleared hostiles, enter Lake Mead and find the submerged B-29. If you didn’t get the Rebreather you can swim down, attach the first ballasts, resurface for oxygen and then make the second run. Alternatively you can take some drowning damage as it won’t kill you immediately.

4c) RAISING THE BOMBER
Return to shore near the Two Wrench and use Loyal’s Detonator to activate the ballasts, raising the B-29. Once done, return to Mother Pearl and she’ll thank you for your help and promise The Boomers will aid The Courier during the Second Battle for Hoover Dam. The Quest concludes and the achievement unlocks.

1) ORRIS THE BODYGUARD
The King will ask the Courier to investigate Orris the bodyguard near one of the entrances who has been making a killing in repeat business.

1a) HIRE ORRIS
Hire Orris and follow him, make sure to stick close and keep an eye out. His route will take you through the Old Mormon Fort, Atomic Wrangler and the Silver Rush. After passing by the Atomic Wrangler and Silver Rush he’ll stop and say to take the backstreets as the group ahead looks suspicious. Orris will run ahead and open fire on the thugs waiting to ambush you. If you have [MEDICINE_30] you can see that the thugs are pretending to be dead. After this, he’ll escort you to The Strip North Gate and then leave.

1b) REPORT BACK TO THE KING
When you report back to The King:
PASS THE MEDICINE CHECK: The King is pleased and will take care of Orris himself and the quest will proceed.
DIDN’T PASS THE MEDICINE CHECK: The King will tell you hire Orris again until you find something. The second attempt Orris will take you to the middle part of the area and reveals he knows you’re working for The King. Orris and his thugs will open fire. Kill Orris and the thugs and return to The King to proceed with the quest.

The King gives another task to the Courier, which is to investigate what happened to his friends that got brutally attacked.

2a) SPEAK TO THE VICTIMS

Return to The King who tells you to head to several squatter areas where NCR personnel hang out and ask around and see why the NCR presence is increasing. He’ll also ask you to talk to Julie Farkas who can give some information. *Make sure to talk to Julie Farkas to unlock the necessary dialogue options to peacefully resolve this Quest.

2b) NCR TEST
There are several squatter spots in Freeside where NCR Missionaries can be found. Speak to them and claim you are an NCR citizen, then pass an NCR Citizen Test to prove it.
Question 1 - Who is the most popular NCR President of all time?
ANSWER: President Tandi

Question 2 - What was the original name of the capital of the NCR?
ANSWER: Shady Sands.

Question 3 - What animal is on the NCR Flag?
ANSWER: Two-Headed Bear.

After successfully answering all questions, he’ll direct you to head to the NCR Soup Kitchen located near the train station in the Northwest corner of Freeside. Tell the password to the guards outside or pass a [SPEECH_30] to gain access to the kitchen.

2c) SPEAK TO ELIZABETH
Talk to Elizabeth Kieran who is running the relief effort. Upon speaking to her you’ll find out they are only serving food to NCR Citizens and won’t answer why they don’t serve to Locals.
*If you’ve spoken to Julie this unlocks a dialogue option to find out why they don’t serve to Locals. As it turns out the NCR sent an envoy to arrange a deal with The King but got beaten badly and was run off.

3) REPORT BACK TO THE KING
Return to The King and make sure to mention to him that an Envoy was sent but was beaten. The conversation will be interrupted by a King’s Member rushing in to advise that there is a shootout between Pacer and the NCR. The King will ask you to defuse the situation by agreeing to work with the NCR.

3a) RESOLVE THE SHOOTOUT
Head to the train station again and walk over to Elizabeth and several NCR Soldiers. Tell her that The King wishes to help with the relief effort.

3b) REPORT BACK TO THE KING

He can be found on The Strip just outside The Tops casino telling jokes. Speak to him and let him know Tommy is hiring and he’ll accept right away.

• [SPEECH_50]
• [BARTER_50]
• Pay 150 caps

Once Hadrian is free, give him Tommy’s business card.

3) THE LONESOME DRIFTER
Located just North of El Dorado Dry Lake. Speak to him and offer to listen to his life story and when he asks if you know of a place a man with a guitar can settle down, offer Tommy’s card.

4) BRUCE ISAACS
He is in one of the rooms on the second floor of the motel in Novac. Speak to him and offer Tommy’s card.

5) RETURN TO TOMMY
Once all 4 have been recruited, return to Tommy and let him know and the Quest concludes and the achievement unlocks.
'That Lucky Old Sun'
That Lucky Old Sun
Complete That Lucky Old Sun.

To start the quest, go to HELIOS One and speak with Lt. Haggerty. She’ll ask why you’re there and there are multiple ways to convince her to let you in:
• [SPEECH_30] Lie and convince her you’re either with the NCR or are trying to look for someone
• Positive NCR Reputation
• Wearing an NCR Uniform

She’ll direct you to talk to the ‘idiot wearing sunglasses’ and the quest will begin. Speak with Fantastic and he’ll say that in order to power-up the station the mirror control systems need to be connected to the mainframe and then retargeted from a terminal inside the plant.

1) REDIRECTING THE OUTSIDE TERMINALS
Speak to Fantastic and Ignacio to get the passwords. Head outside and go to the 2 x fenced off terminals. The first one will be bobby trapped with landmines and a shotgun, the second one will have NCR Dogs that are hostile. Killing them won’t turn the NCR hostile or incur Karma Loss. Once both mirror control systems are adjusted you can then head inside.

2) FIGHT THROUGH HELIOS ONE
Inside the power plant are the active security systems including ceiling Turrets, Sentry Bots, Robobrains, Mr Gutsy and Protectrons. Fight through the security system until you reach the main control room.

3) ACTIVATING THE GENERATOR
Once you’re inside the room you’ll need to repair the damaged generator using
• [REPAIR_35] and 1 x Scrap Metal
• Reactivating a Mr Handy named PYTHON using a [SCIENCE_45] or having a Poseidon Energy Employee ID Card who will repair the generator for you

Once the generator is repaired, access the terminal and select where you’ll want to redirect the energy to. Select ‘Full region’

4) ACTIVATING HELIOS ONE
Head outside and between the hours of 9 am – 3 pm, you can activate HELIOS One and you’ll complete the quest and unlock the achievement.
'Return to Sender'
Return to Sender
Complete Return to Sender.

This quest can be started by talking to Sergent Reyes, the Comms Operate at Camp Forlorn Hope Command Centre. She’ll ask you to deliver several Radio Security Upgrade Codes by speaking to the Officer in charge at the various Stations.

1) UPGRADE STATIONS A - F
Head to the below Ranger Stations, talk to the Comms Operator and deliver the Radio Security Upgrade Codes:
• Ranger Station Alpha
• Ranger Station Bravo
• Ranger Station Charlie - *If they haven’t been wiped out by The Legion
• Ranger Station Delta
• Ranger Station Echo
• Ranger Station Foxtrot

2) VERIFY REPORTS
Return to Reyes who says that they have gotten false reports and wants you to verify 3 of them at Stations Alpha, Delta and Foxtrot.

2a) RETURN TO REYES
After speaking to each Ranger at the 3 stations, return and let Reyes know the reports are indeed false.

3) CONFRONT THE SOURCE OF THE FALSE REPORTS
Reyes asks you to head to Camp Golf and speak with Chief Hanlon.

3a) SPEAK TO CHIEF HANLON
When you bring up the reports, Chief Hanlon will ask you to go to his office and he reveals the truth, that he doesn’t think the NCR will win and wants the Legion to take over and put the blame on General Oliver. From here there are several choices that can be made but all of them will still result in completing the quest:

OPTION 01: If you decide to turn him in, he’ll ask you to get a Ranger to make it official. After leaving his office, he’ll lock the doors, makes a speech over the intercom and shoots himself
OPTION 02: Let him continue what he is doing and keep his secret
OPTION 03: Threaten to kill him, turning him hostile
OPTION 04: *If Caesar is dead, you can tell him that the NCR can win the fight and he’ll abandon his plans of sabotaging the NCR.

Regardless of which option you choose, the Quest concludes and the achievement unlocks.
'Come Fly With Me'
Come Fly With Me
Complete Come Fly With Me.

To start this quest you can speak with Manny Vargas in Novac or enter the REPCONN Test Site and upon entering the building, a voice on the intercom will initiate dialogue, beginning the quest this way.

Make your way through the building, fighting or sneaking by the feral ghouls and reach the back that has metal floors and railings leading up to the viewing platform. Once inside you can speak to Jason Bright who will ask you to clear the “demons” (Nightkin) in the basement.

1) CLEARING OUT THE NIGHTKIN
Head to the basement and kill the Nightkin that are residing there. Once all of them have been killed you can return to Jason to let him know it’s safe.

1a) HARLAND
There will be another Ghoul from Jason’s group named Harland who is trapped in a room just pass Antler. He’ll ask you to locate his friend (who can be found in the jail cells where the Jailer Nightkin is). If she is found, let him know and he’ll thank you before leaving and making his way topside.

2) REPORT BACK TO JASON
Once Jason is told that the Nightkin won’t bother them anymore, he’ll thank you and ask you to meet him in the basement to continue with their plan. After heading to the basement and speaking to Jason one last time who asks for your help in getting the necessary components to get their rockets working and directs you to talk to Chris.

3) GETTING THE REQUIRED ITEMS
Chris says they need the Thrust Control Modules and the Atomic Fuel.

3a) THRUST CONTROLS MODULES
These can be purchased by Old Lady Gibson at Gibson Scrap Yard close to Novac.

3b) ATOMIC FUEL
These can be found on a dead body near Clark Field. Be careful as there are several Golden Geckos around.

4) RETURN TO CHRIS
Once both components are acquired return to Chris and the launch will begin. Head to the viewing platform and watch the rockets take off. Once the rockets have left, the Quest will be completed and achievement will unlock.

TIPS
Ask Chris where to find the Ignition Fuel and then place a personal marker at the location. Speak to Chris and ask to instead get the Thrust Control Modules. This will allow you to go to Old Lady Gibson and then collect the Ignition Fuel and return back to Chris to hand them in at the same time instead of picking one, returning and then leaving to get the other.
'The Legend of the Star'
The Legend of the Star
Complete The Legend of the Star.

Located at the Sunset Sarsaparilla Headquarters, once you’re inside turn left and speak to an animatronic named Festus and inquire about the competition. He will give you a quick rundown and instruct you to collect 50 Blue Star Bottlecaps which can be found when drinking bottles of Sunset Sarsaparilla or finding them throughout the Mojave.

1) FIND 50 BLUE STAR BOTTLECAPS
Once you’ve collected 50 Blue Star Bottlecaps, return back to Festus and deposit them. Festus will reveal the story about the Blue Star Bottlecaps was the real prize. This will fail the quest and automatically begin the next quest ‘A Valuable Lesson’. *This is intentional and won’t void the achievement

2) FIND THE REAL PRIZE
Ask Festus again about the real prize and he’ll advise that a second prize was being offered that should be sufficient. You’ll need to head to the Sunset Sarsaparilla prize vault to collect the prize which can be accessed via the second floor and dropping through a hole in the ground.

2a) LOCATING THE PRIZE
Inside the prize vault will be the body of a man named Allen Marks and a holotape. Collecting the holotape will complete the quest and unlock the achievement.

TIPS
You can keep track of how many Sunset Sarsaparilla Blue Star Bottlecaps you have by going to Items > Misc. Once you have 50, any more you pick up will be converted to standard bottlecaps.
EXPLORATION
This section refers to achievements that require you to explore the Mojave Wasteland.
'Globe Trotter'
Globe Trotter
Discover all snow globes.

There are a total of 7 Snow Globes to collect in the Mojave. Below are the locations:

GOODSPRINGS
From the FT point, move forwards facing N and the plot to the far left has the Snow Globe near an open grave.

NELLIS AFB
From the FT point, face SW - W and you'll see 3 tents. Enter the one on the right 'Boomer Museum'. Once you’re inside, turn to your immediate right and the Snow Globe will be on the desk.

OLD MORMON FORT
Upon entering, turn to your immediate right and enter the building. On the second floor will be a dresser and the Snow Globe will be on top.

VAULT 21
Upon entering the vault, take the first left down into a wide open room, then another left, head straight and you should see two doors. The furthest door will be [LOCKPICK_50] but can be unlocked if you take Sarah's tour. The Snow Globe will be on the nightstand between 2 beds

HOOVER DAM
As soon as you enter via the lower level of the Visitor’s centre, the Snow Globe will be on the desk near the terminal straight ahead

JACOBS TOWN
As soon as you walk into the lodge, the Snow Globe will be sitting on a table directly in front of the entrance

LUCKY 38
Enter the Cocktail Lounge. Once you leave the mini hallway, turn right and keep heading until you reach the second cash register. The Snow Globe will be nestled behind it

Once all 7 are obtained, you’ll unlock the achievement.

Some notes:
• Make sure you hand in these Snow Globes to Jane in the Lucky 38 Penthouse to be paid. If Mr House is turned hostile, you’ll no longer be able to sell them and put them on display.
• Only the Snow Globes in the base game count for this achievement. The additional 4 in each of the DLCS don’t count
'Walker of the Mojave'
Walker of the Mojave
Discovered 50 locations.

*See ‘Master of the Mojave’
'Master of the Mojave'
Master of the Mojave
Discover 125 locations.

Locations can be found by seeing a small tick on the compass or can be marked on your map when talking to NPCs or reading notes / terminal entries. (in the tap Left-hand corner you’ll see “Map marker added”)

To discover a location you’ll need to physically travel to it and once you’re close enough it’ll be unlocked as a Fast Travel Point. You’ll know you have discovered a location as you’ll be rewarded 10 XP and the location will appear. For example:
“You have discovered
GOODSPRINGS CEMETERY”

The total amount of locations visited can be tracked in the Pip-Boy > Data > General and then switch to Statistics. Once you’ve visited 125 locations you’ll get the achievement.

A tip:
Upon hitting Level 20, the perk ‘Explorer’ will be available which will show all locations in the Mojave (and DLC areas). You’ll still need to manually travel and discover it for it to count but this will make it easier to find spots.

PLAYER ACTIONS
This refers to specific actions you’ll need to perform.
'Hack the Mojave'
Hack the Mojave
Hack 25 terminals.

In order to hack Terminals you must meet the [SCIENCE_SKILL] requirements. Terminals have 5 tiers of difficulty.
• Very Easy (min 0)
• Easy (min 25)
• Average (min 50)
• Hard (min 75)
• Very Hard (min 100)

Make sure to make a save before attempting to hack a Terminal because if you use all 4 attempts, you’ll be permanently locked out unless you find the password or have the ‘Computer Whiz Perk’ which will allow you to reattempt a hack.

Some tips below:
• Clothing, Chems or Magazines that increase your [SCIENCE_SKILL] such as Programmer’s Digest to meet the requirement will allow you to attempt a hack
• If you haven’t used all attempts, you can exit and re-enter the terminal to attempt hacking again.
• A good strategy is to use 3 guesses and then scour and locate strings of text that have <>, [], {} or (). These will either remove duds or reset your attempts.
• If you don’t mind reloading, make a quicksave and use all 4 attempts. If you fail, reload and try again.

Once you’ve hacked 25 Terminals you’ll get the achievement.
'No Tumbler Fumbler'
No Tumbler Fumbler
Pick 25 locks.

In order to pick locks you must meet the [LOCKPICK_SKILL] requirements. Locks have 5 tiers of difficulty.
• Very Easy (min 0)
• Easy (min 25)
• Average (min 50)
• Hard (min 75)
• Very Hard (min 100)

Depending on your [LUCK_STAT] and the type of lock, you can attempt to “force lock” which will automatically unlock whatever it is you’re trying to lockpick. Make sure to make a save as if it fails you’ll be permanently locked out unless you find the key or have the ‘Infiltrator’ Perk which will allow you to reattempt picking a lock.

Some tips:
• Clothing, Chems or Magazines that increase your [LOCKPICK_SKILL] such as Locksmith Reader to meet the requirement will allow you to attempt a lockpick
• If you bobby pin starts rapidly shaking stop or else it’ll break and you’ll lose your spot
• The more you can move around the closer you are to the sweet spot
• If you don’t mind reloading, make a quicksave and use a “force lock” attempt. If you fail, reload and try again.

Doors, Safes and Containers all apply to this achievement. Once you’ve picked 25 locks you’ll unlock the achievement.
'Artful Pocketer'
Artful Pocketer
Pick 50 pockets.

When you crouch and hover your sights over an NPC you’ll be able to pickpocket them. Looking in their inventory isn’t a crime but actually taking something is.

The chance of successfully pickpocketing someone is dependent on your [SNEAK_SKILL], your visibility and what the item is. If you attempt a pickpocket but get caught they’ll take back what you took or turn hostile so make sure you make a save beforehand if you’re not wanting to lose Faction Reputation.

Some tips
• The easiest items to lift as small or zero weight items (such as caps, NCR dog tags, etc) as they are always a guaranteed success
• If playing on Hardcore you can take individual bits of ammo and this will stack. If an NPC has 10 x 5.56 bullets and you take 1, then take another it’ll count as two.
• If you have a low [SNEAK_SKILL] you can wear clothing that provides a bonus to sneak, consume Magazines or use a Stealth Boy which gives an invisibility field and raises your [SNEAK_SKILL] to 100.
• All NPCS count for this achievement

Once you’ve picked 50 pockets you’ll unlock the achievement.
'Crafty'
Crafty
Craft 20 items.

Crafting can be done at campfires, work benches or reloading benches. When in the crafting menu, hovering over an item will show you the requirement (Skill Level and materials / items needed). All things crafted will contribute, such as cooking / making consumables, creating items or making ammunition. Easiest items to craft are Gecko Steaks as they have the lowest requirement of [SURVIVAL_25] and only need Raw Gecko Meat.

Craft 20 items and you’ll get this achievement.
'Jury Rigger'
Jury Rigger
Repair 30 items.

As you use Weapons and take damage when wearing Armour, their condition will deteriorate. If a Weapon or Armour isn’t at 100%, you can repair them. There is no minimum [REPAIR_SKILL] needed but the higher it is, the better condition the Weapon or Armour will be in once repaired.

At first only Weapons or Armour similar to each other can be used (E.g. 10mm can only be repaired with 10mm pistols, Cowboy Repeaters can only be repaired with Cowboy Repeaters, etc) but if you get the ‘Jury Rigging’ perk it’ll allow you to repair almost all Weapons and Armour with another similar Weapon or Armour.

In your Pip-Boy, hover over the Weapon or Armour and press ‘R’ and it’ll show you what is available to make the repair.

Make 30 repairs and you’ll get the achievement.
'Mod Master'
Mod Master
Install 20 Weapon Mods.

Weapon Mods can be purchased from various vendors under the misc section and then applied directly to the weapon. Open your Pip-Boy > hover over the weapon you want to mod > press ‘X’ to open the mod submenu > click on the mod you want to apply and it’ll be applied.

For example, selecting the 9mm Pistol > Press ‘X’ > select 9mm Pistol Extended Mags and 9mm Pistol Scope

Some notes:
• Once applied, a mod cannot be removed
• Multiple mods can be applied to the same weapon
• No Skill requirement needed for any mod
• If you have the Gun Runners Arsenal DLC, some mods will only be compatible with their GRA equivalent. For example, the Anti-Material Rifle has no mods but the (GRA) Anti-Material Rifle version does. You’ll know which mod is exclusive to the GRA weapon as it uses the prefix (GRA)

Apply 20 mods and you’ll get the achievement.
'Outstanding Orator'
Outstanding Orator
Make 50 Speech challenges.

In dialogue, any SKILL, SPECIAL or PERK related CHECK used in dialogue will count towards this achievement. In dialogue if you don’t meet the requirement it’ll show you what you’re missing (e.g. [SNEAK 21 / 25]) which will result in an automatic fail. Depending on the situation you can sometimes back out and then return later once you’ve met the requirement.

You’ll know you succeeded when it has [SUCCESSFUL] at the beginning of Dialogue and sometimes followed by XP gain.

The best SKILLS to raise are SPEECH and BARTER as they are used quite frequently, sometimes in the same conversation (BARTER when trying to get better rewards for example).

Some tips
• Clothing, Magazines and Chems can be used to improve whichever skill you’re using to meet the requirement, such as the Grimy Pre-War Suit, Benny’s Suit, Meeting People Magazine, Patriot’s Cookbook, Programmers Digest, etc

Once you’ve successfully passed 50 Speech checks you’ll unlock the achievement.
'Desert Survivalist'
Desert Survivalist
Heal 10,000 points of damage with food.

Consuming any Aid Item that restores HP will contribute. Simply take damage and heal as needed. Pre-War Food and freshly cooked food will count just make sure to mind your radiation levels.

Some tips:
• Have a decent enough [SURVIVAL_SKILL] will increase the effectiveness of Aid Items and allow you to craft new items at campfires once you meet the SKILL requirement.
• Self-damaging and then healing works (such as using Explosives or Drowning)

*If playing on Hardcore consuming Raw Meat will have negative effects

Heal a total of 10,000 points and you’ll get the achievement.
'Stim-ply Amazing'
Stim-ply Amazing
Heal 10,000 points of damage with Stimpaks.

Restore health using Stimpaks. The higher your [MEDICINE_SKILL] is the more health you’ll restore. *In Normal Mode, Stimpaks heal immediately but in Hardcore Mode they heal overtime, similar to aid items.

Heal a total of 10,000 points with Stimpaks and you’ll get the achievement.
'You Run Barter Town'
You Run Barter Town
Sell 10,000 Caps worth of goods.

You must sell a total of 10,000 Caps worth of goods. Any and all vendors will contribute to this Achievement.

I recommend the Vendatron in the Gun Runners Kiosk as the amount they have scales with your Courier and can have a max of 8000 caps once you reach the higher levels.

Focusing on selling just weapons and armor as they have the highest selling value. There are many spots in the Mojave where you can either loot free gear from corpses or fight enemies, such as the dead NCR soldiers in the Nipton Motel Reception, the Wrecked Homestead and South Vegas entrances where Fiends respawn every few in-game days.

Some tips:
• Make sure to have a high [REPAIR_SKILL] and get the Jury Rigging Perk so you can repair weapons and armor and sell them at higher values
• Make sure to have a decent enough [BARTER_SKILL] so your sell value is high

Purchasing items will contribute to the Achievement as well. Once you’ve sold / bought 10,000 Caps worth of goods you’ll unlock this achievement.

'The Courier Who Broke the Bank'
The Courier Who Broke the Bank
Get banned from all the Strip's casinos.

The three main casinos you need to be banned from are on The Strip: The Tops Casino, Gomorrah and the Ultra-Luxe. In order to be banned you need to reach the below Winnings at each Casino:
• 15,000 caps for Ultra-Luxe
• 10,000 caps for The Tops
• 9,000 caps for Gomorrah.

You can keep track of your winnings at the bottom left corner when you’re playing any of the Casino games.

Each Casino has rewards at certain tiers and you’ll be interrupted each time you reached one. You’ll know you’ve hit max when a Member of the Casino will tell you you’re not allowed to Gamble anymore. *You’re only banned from Gambling, no Quests will fail and you can still continue or find new ones as well as buy drinks at the bar.

Any and all Casino games will contribute towards the Total Winnings.

Below are some tips
• Blackjack is the easiest way to win as it’s a mixture of luck and skill. Once you learn the basics of Blackjack you’ll be banned in no time
• Luck does have a factor and having a Courier with 7 LUCK or higher would be favourable. If you don’t have a Courier with a high LUCK stat or don’t want to make a new character / STAT dump you can wear Naughty Nightwear / Lucky Shades to get a +1 to [LUCK], or buy an Implant at the New Vegas Medical Clinic if you have enough [ENDURANCE]

Once you’re banned from all 3 Casinos you’ll unlock the achievement.
'Know When to Fold Them'
Know When to Fold Them
Win 3 games of Caravan.

*See Caravan Master

After starting ‘Ghost Gunfire’ you’ll be directed to meet with Ringo. Speak to him and ask about how Caravan is played to get a starter deck and a holotape explaining the rules.
'Caravan Master'
Caravan Master
Win 30 hands of Caravan.

*I am not an Expert on Caravan and lost more than I won. I recommend following a detailed guide or looking up a video. This guide How to play Caravan by Steam user Social is a pretty good breakdown to get started with the basics, you can also follow the in-game tutorial holotape that Ringo gives you

Unlike the Casino Games which have a mixture of Skill to Luck, Caravan is all skill. You’ll need to learn your opponents tactics to counter them properly.

BEGINNING A GAME OF CARAVAN
• Place your bet (any amount will do)
• You can build your deck manually or randomise it
• You’ll place down 3 cards at the start which will be your Caravans
• After you and your opponent have 3 Caravans each, you’ll be able to place cards. You’ll want each Caravan to be between 21 – 26 (under 21 is too light and over 26 is over encumbered)
• Once you’ve gotten all 3 Caravans between 21 – 26, with each being better than your opponents you’ll win that round

GAME RULES
• Once you place a card, the second card will determine what value order it goes in. For example: placing a 8 and then a 7 means you can only place a 6 or lower. If you place an 8, and then a 5 you can only place a 4 or lower.
• Each Card Value is exactly as shown. Ace = 1, 2 = 2, 3= 3, etc
• Kings, Queens, Jacks and Joker’s have unique effects
• Kings will double the value of which card it is placed on top (If a King is placed on top of a 5, it now becomes a 10. Stack another and it becomes 15)
• Queens will reverse the value order. If you place a 5, then a 4 and then a Queen you can then place a 5, a 6 or higher and it continues
• Jacks will remove a single Value card and any Kings attached
• Jokers will remove all Values card it was placed on. If a Joker is placed on a 5, all Value Cards with a 5 are removed
• These cards can be placed on both your own and your opponents Caravans
• If your Caravan becomes over encumbered you can reset it by removing all cards in that pile and starting fresh

TACTICS
• When creating your caravan focus on just having 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10s
• During the opening phase of building your Caravans, you can discard as many times as you want without ending your turn. Ideally make sure you have at least 1 King or 1 Jack
• Use Kings and Jacks offensively in order to over encumber your opponent, especially when they have a set Caravan. If they have a pile at 25, make them go over and force them to trash their pile
• Save Queens for emergencies in case you don’t have ideal cards

TIPS
I got none, just keep playing and learn your opponent’s tactics. I recommend going against Ambassador Crocker as he plays offensively, using Kings to over encumber you which can work if you have plenty of Jacks to remove them. If your opponent has no more funds to gamble, wait a few days and they’ll have funds again.

Once you win 30 games you’ll get the achievement.

COMBAT
This section is about dealing damage with the various types of firearms and melee weapons

NOTE ABOUT WEAPONS
Each weapon will have a small symbol in the bottom right that falls into one of 5 categories below, as well as a [STRENGTH] recommendation. You can use all weapons regardless of whether you meet the [SKILL] and [STRENGTH] requirement, you just might be a bit more inaccurate, have more weapon swap or swing the weapon slower.

Lightning Bolt - Energy Weapons
3 Bullets - Gun Weapons
Knife - Melee Weapons (both blunt and bladed weapons will count together)
Bomb with a lit fuse - Explosive Weapons
Closed fist - Unarmed Weapons

GENERAL NOTES
• You can deal damage to any and all inhabitants of the Wasteland such as humans, robots, animals and insects. Friendly, hostiles and neutral NPCS count.
• If you want a consistent place to farm these damage challenges head to The Thorne and complete the ‘BLEED ME DRY’ side quest to fight in the pit and unlock more enemies to fight. Additionally places inhabited by Fiends and Vipers (such as South Vegas Ruins and Wrecked Farmstead) will respawn Enemies every few in-game days
• Both the standard, unique and GRA weapons count for each category (Gauss Rifle and YCS/186, 9mm and Maria, Machete and Liberator, Grenade Rifle and Thump-Thump, Ballistic Fist and Pushy)
• To track your progress go to Data > Misc > Press ‘R’ to swap to Challenges and you can see how much damage has been dealt

MISC
This section refers to achievements that don’t have enough of each to be their own category
'Ol’ Buddy Ol’ Pal'
Ol’ Buddy Ol’ Pal
Recruit any companion.

*See ‘The Whole Gang’s Here* for details about each Companion and how to recruit them.

There are a total 7 Companions you can recruit throughout the Mojave. You’ll know they are recruited when a Pop-Up Notifications tells you a Perk is now available when they are in your party.

The easiest companion to recruit is Veronica as all you need to do is talk positively or neutrally about the Brotherhood of Steel and agree to let her join you on your travels. *If you speak negatively you’ll be locked out and won’t be able to recruit her

Recruit her and you’ll unlock the achievement.
'The Whole Gang’s Here'
The Whole Gang’s Here
Recruit all companions.

I’ve arranged the companions in what I consider easiest to hardest to recruit. None of them need any specific Perks, SPECIAL or SKILLS (but having some will help bypass requirements).

VERONICA SANTANGELO
LOCATION: 188 Trading Post
CONDITIONS: Have a Positive Reputation (if encountered before meeting her) and not kill them or initiated the self-destruct sequence at Hidden Valley
HOW TO ACQUIRE: Talk to Veronica and speak neutrally or positively about the BoS and when she asks to join you, allow her.

REX
LOCATION: Freeside > Kings School of Impersonation

HOW TO ACQUIRE: Speak to The King and ask about Rex and then offer to help him.

ED-E
LOCATION: Primm > Mojave Express Office / Nash Residence
CONDITIONS: N/A
HOW TO ACQUIRE: Can be acquired in one of two ways

OPTION 01: Passing a [REPAIR_65] (or [REPAIR_35] if possessing a [SCIENCE_55])

OPTION 02: Gather:
3 x Scrap Metal
2 x Sensor Modules
1 x Scrap Electronics

Once ED-E is repaired, ask him to join you

LILY BOWEN
LOCATION: Jacobstown
CONDITIONS: Complete ‘Guess Who I Saw Today’
HOW TO ACQUIRE: Speak to her after completing ‘Guess Who I Saw Today’

CRAIG BOONE

HOW TO ACQUIRE: Once you’ve successfully bought out the Caravan you can then ask her to join you and select dialogue about how it’s much better for her to finally get out instead of wasting away at the barracks.

ARCADE ISRAEL GANNON
LOCATION: Freeside > Old Mormon Fort
CONDITIONS: Complete ‘High Times’ and have an Idolised Reputation with the Followers (there are more but these 2 are the main ones)
HOW TO ACQUIRE: Talk to Arcade and choose Dialogue about wanting to help. *Make sure to not select anything that is Pro Legion

RAUL ALFONSO TEJADA
LOCATION: Black Mountain and then Raul’s Shack
CONDITIONS: Complete ‘Crazy Crazy Crazy’
HOW TO ACQUIRE: After completing ‘Crazy Crazy Crazy’ talk to Raul and let him know he is free to leave. You can recruit him right there or go to his shack and recruit him later on

Some tips
• Arcade and Craig won’t join you if you’re wearing Legion Armor or have a Liked or higher reputation with them. Wear Faction disguise to lower it and then speak to them. Alternatively kill Legionnaires to raise your infamy and lower your reputation with them
• Cass won’t join you if you have too much Negative Karma. Kill a few Fiends to raise it
• You only need to recruit the Companions, doing the Companion Quests for Arcade, Boone, Veronica, Cass and Rex are not required
• If playing on Hardcore, Companions can die and render this achievement impossible to acquire if you didn’t recruit them all beforehand

Once you have all Companions recruited at least once the achievement will unlock.

'New Kid'
New Kid
Reached 10th level.

*See ‘The Boss’
'Up and Comer'
Up and Comer
Reach 20th level.

*See ‘The Boss’
'The Boss'
The Boss
Reach 30th level.

Level 30 is the maximum level you can reach in the base game. The below is the total amount of XP needed to reach the 3 milestones:
Level 10 - 7,200 XP
Level 20 - 29,450 XP
Level 30 - 66,700 XP

XP can earned in several ways
• Completing Quests, Side Quests and Unmarked Quests
• Completing Challenges
• Passing [SKILL], [SPECIAL] or [PERK] checks
• Discovering Locations
• Picking locks and hacking terminals
• Killing NPCS

Some tips:
• I recommend staying Neutral or Positive with all factions and do all of their Side Quests to get the most out of completing Quests as the NCR has a ton of Side Quests spread all over the Mojave
• You can progress some Faction Quests but make sure to stop before doing the Quest that’ll lock you out of others. See further below for a breakdown
• If you complete the ‘Bleed Me Dry’ Side Quest you can do repeatable fights in The Thorne
• Make sure to max out INT to get the most XP you can

Some notes:
• Level 10, 20 and 30 are the only ones with achievements tied to them. With all DLC installed you can hit 50 but won’t get any additional achievements
• You can get the perk ‘Swift Learner’ to gain 10% more XP to help Level up faster
• Make sure to sleep in an owned bed before venturing as it’ll also provide a 10% XP gain for a limited time

Whilst Faction Quests can be done simultaneously, progressing some will lock you out of others and mark them as unavailable. You can still do Side Quests (if your reputation is high enough) but won’t be able to finish the game and any further Faction Quests will automatically fail:
How Little We Know – Make sure to not finish this Quest beforehand because during dialogue after completing ‘Oh My Papa’ you’ll only be able to say “you’ve done it” instead of being able to back out. This Quest can be handed in to Mr House or NCR:
If delivered to Mr House, the NCR and Caesar’s Legion will fail.
If delivered to Colonel Moore, Mr House and Caesar’s Legion will fail
Both the NCR and Caesar’s Legion will require you to kill Mr House. Doing so will make Mr House unavailable.

Once you’ve reached Level 30, the achievement will unlock.

HARDCORE
'Hardcore'
Hardcore
Play the game from start to finish in Hardcore Mode.

*During ‘Ain't That a Kick in the Head’ after you finish speaking with Doc Mitchel the game will give a prompt if you want to play on Hardcore. Select Yes and keep it on, if you turn it off at any point it’ll disable this achievement, even if you re-enable it.

Hardcore Mode adds a few new mechanics that makes Fallout New Vegas slightly more challenging. Below are the new additions

1) NEW STATS TO MANAGE
In addition to Radiation, you’ll also have 3 new stats to monitor: Sleep, Hunger and Hydration. Each one has a value of 0 – 1000 and upon certain benchmarks will add penalties (such as a minus to your SPECIAL and SKILLS). Reaching 1000 in any of them will kill you instantly. Hydration and Hunger can be managed by drinking water and eating food items (both Pre-War snacks like Dandy Apples, Salisbury Steaks and cooked meats like Gecko and Brahmin Steaks). Sleep can be managed by sleeping in any bed and drinking Coffee or Nuka-Cola (which will instead increase your dehydration).

2) HEALING LIMBS
Sleeping will no longer mend broken bones, you’ll either need to use a Doctor Bag or visit a Doctor to fix your bones.

3) STIMPAKS
Stimpaks now heal overtime instead of instantaneously like food items.

4) AMMO HAS WEIGHT
All ammo now has a weight value. Some may require a large quantity before it begins to take up weight whilst others will have a set weight individually (such as the Mini Nukes).

5) COMPANIONS CAN DIE PERMANENETLY
Companions can die permanently and will fail their associated Quests. *There is an achievement for recruiting all Companions so make sure to get this Achievement before starting Hardcore or be extra careful when travelling with them.

Some quick tips before I’ll show you my build and tips I used:
• Play the game a LOT. Do all 4 endings, complete all side quests at least once, sometimes replay to do the alternate ways to complete them. Take notes of what SPECIAL or SKILLS are needed for SKILL CHECKS and how to best maximize your run
• Take notes. In relation to the first tip keep notes of hard areas, areas you know will be easy to clear once you have the right gear and equipment, unique weapons etc

PART ONE: CHARACTER CREATION

STR: 10
PER: 4
END: 6
CHA: 1
INT: 10
AGI: 2
LCK: 6

STR for maximum carry weight (250 before perks) so you can haul items and cut down of how many trips you’ll need to make.
END so I can get the ‘Long Haul’ perk which allows you to Fast Travel when over encumbered as well as get multiple implants from the New Vegas Medical Clinic
INT for maximum XP gain and SKILL POINT distribution upon levelling up.
LCK at 6 to increase all stats and gain increased critical hit chance.

I then went New Vegas Medical Clinic to buy implants boost my PER, AGI and LCK up.
CHR was untouched as I wasn’t planning on using Companions.

As for my Traits, I chose ‘Heavy Handed’ and ‘Loose Canon’. Heavy Handed for better Melee DMG since you don’t have a lot of firearm options at the start and Loose Canon since it didn’t have a permanent effect on my stats.

Some perks I highly recommend building towards are:
LONG HAUL: So you can travel when over encumbered and cut down on making back-and-forth trips. Also helps with carrying and selling items in bulk.
EDUCATED: Gain 2 more SKILL POINTS when levelling up to maximize your SKILL POINT distribution
COMPREHENSION: To get an extra point from SKILL BOOKS and double the effects of SKILL MAGAZINES. Since the effects of SKILL MAGAZINES are doubled, you'll only need to focus on putting the majority of points into your main skills and use Magazines when necessary to bypass SKILL CHECKS (such as having a [MEDICINE_10] and needing a [MEDICINE_30] during 'G.I. Blues'). This also means you can save 40 points by only investing up to 80 points in LOCKPICK and SCIENCE and can boost yourself with ‘Locksmith’s Reader’ and ‘Programmer’s Digest’ for the Very Hard locks and terminals.
JURY RIGGING: Both for selling and buying high end gear as well as repairing your Unique and Modded Weapons without needing to spend thousands at vendors
CANNIBAL > DINE AND DASH: Feasting on corpses after a firefight to save on Healing Items. Once you have ‘Dine and Dash’ you can get Human Remains from corpses. Human Remains don’t have radiation and can refill your Hunger bar as well as being relatively light to carry around
BLACK WIDOW / CHERCHEZ LA FEMME OR LADY KILLER / CONFIRMED BACHELOR: Dealing 10% damage to a lot of characters as well as unlock unique dialogue options
COWBOY: Boosts a lot of weapons and makes them a good choice to use when making a loadout
SHOTGUN SURGEON: Boosts all of the Shotguns and is great for dealing with heavily armoured foes
SUPER SLAM: Adds a way to stop heavily armoured foes from rushing you and buys some breathing room for when you need to control a crowd

PART TWO: WHICH FACTION TO SIDE WITH FOR THE ENDING
The best two factions to side with are either the NCR or Yes Man.
The NCR because they have the most areas they operate in making their territories safe, the most amount of Side Quests to gain XP, caps and other rewards.

Yes Man because you can opt to skip or befriend all of the minor factions once you’ve met them allowing you to skip doing a majority of the Quests if you’re looking to only finish the game and do the minimum.

The main thing both have is that you can be allies with the Brotherhood of Steel who are required to be killed for Mr House and Caesar
*The option to be friendly with the BoS – NCR is to make sure Elder McNamara is in charge and ‘EYESIGHT TO THE BLIND’ has been completed. Yes Man only requires you to make contact, you don’t need to do any Quests for them

PART THREE: WHAT WEAPONS AND ARMOR
Entirely dependent on your personal preference and playstyle. I boosted Guns, Energy Weapons, Explosives and Melee so I had a good mix of everything at my disposal. My general loadout consisted of:
• A melee weapon for dealing with small / single enemies (usually a Baseball Bat)
• A pistol or SMG (such as the Hunting Revolver or 9mm SMG)
• One automatic rifle and one shotgun (such as the Assault Carbine and Riot Shotgun)
• One heavy weapon (such as the Minigun or Flamer) to deal with crowds if you’re going into areas with lots of enemies like South Vegas / Vault 3
My loadout usually ended up looking like:
MELEE: Baseball Bat
SIDEARM: Hunting Revolver
RIFLE: Assault Rifle
SHOTGUN: Riot Shotgun

As for armor, I recommend Reinforced Leather Armor or Combat Armor since you’ll be taking damage and won’t have a way to easy mitigate it as well as needing to be able to move quick enough to outpace enemies that can kill you quickly but don’t move fast. I recommend only using the T-45d Power Armor, Ganon Family Power Armor and NCR Salvaged Power Armor during the Second Battle or for locations that are indoors or very small as you won’t be able to move and will need to tank damage.

PART FOUR: GENERAL TIPS AND TRICKS

4a) SAEF HOUSES
The two dumpsters outside of Goodsprings General Store are good for early-stage temporary storage. I recommend using them only after completing ‘GHOST TOWN GUNFIGHT’ as NPCS will use whatever is stashed during the fight. The reason I chose this was because
• Close to the Fast Travel Spawn
• Safe Storage
• Two dumpsters so you have some organisation options

Doc Mitchel’s home and the Gas Station after completing ‘GHOST TOWN GUNFIGHT’ are also safe but require you to walk to them which can be a bit annoying if you’re making repeat trips back or are over encumbered.

The two easiest Safehouses to gain access is the Followers Safehouse and the Brotherhood of Steel Safehouse.
For the Followers you’ll need to reach a Idolized or higher status which can be achieved easily by completing their Quests in Freeside and by handing over Rad-X, Med-X and Fixer to Julia Farkes. The added benefit is that there are two fridges that get restocked every few days allowing you to have a source of Food as well as a clean Drinking Fountain for water.

The Brotherhood gives you a key to their Safehouse after completing ‘STILL IN THE DARK’ and having a ‘Liked’ or higher reputation.
Both safehouses have the FT spawn right in front of the entrances, making repeat trips much easier and less annoying.

4b) NCR HELP RADIO AND CAESAR’S HIDDEN CACHE

After reaching a ‘Accepted’ Status with the NCR and Caesar’s Legion, both will grant you access to repeatable loot drops. For the NCR you’ll receive the NCR Emergency Radio and can request a Loot Drop that has a random assortment of items. For Caesar’s Legion they have a hidden cache that has a random assortment of items.
Both range from Weapons, Armor, Ammo, Aid items and Currency as well as being infinite with small cooldowns.
*Make sure that you don’t immediately Fast Travel and wait a few seconds after achieving the required reputation level as you’ll need an NPC to talk to you who initiates these perks. The NCR gives you a radio and Caesar’s Legion will have a disguised Legionnaire who will offer the quest ‘Caesar’s Hire’ or ‘Caesar’s Favour’ depending on your reputation level. **Both of these are essentially the same quest, just with different tiers of rewards.

Make sure to also be in a neutral area or else either NPC will be gunned down before they can talk to you and render these rewards unobtainable.

4c) MAKING CAPS
The major vendors to sell Weapons and Armor to are the Vendortron at the Gun Runners and the Quartermaster at Hoover Dam. Both will stock all tiers of weapons and how much they carry will scale with your level. The max they’ll carry is 8,000 caps. Hunting Revolvers, Combat Knives, Laser RCW and Raider Blast Armor have high selling value and I recommend you hold onto them and repair as Raiders and Fiends respawn around South Vegas every few in-game days.

4d) BUYING HIGH END GEAR
The Vendortron is the best as they’ll have a range of weapons that increases with your level. The Great Khan Armourer and Quartermaster sell ammo in excessive quantities, making the more rarer ammo easier to acquire. *Both will require a Liked or higher reputation to be able to buy from

4e) FIGHTING THE LEGATE
The Second Battle ranges from medium – hard difficulty depending on what Side Quests you’ve done and what gear you’re bringing. Thankfully you’ll have at minimum the NCR / Securitrons but as you get closer to Caesar’s Legion’s camp you’ll have to clear the remaining Legionnaires by yourself. This was my loadout during ‘No Gods, No Masters’
ARMOR: Ganon Family Power Armor + Helmet
WEAPONS:
• Chainsaw
• Assault Carbine
• Riot Shotgun
• Minigun
• Grenade Machinegun

The ultimate challenge however is Legate Lanius. Unlike most Legionnaires, he will not go down easily and will require you to hit hard and fast as well as take a few hits. There are two options

OPTION 01: VIOLENCE
Wear Power Armor or Combat Armor Mk 2, take one of: Med-X, Psycho, Jet and read the SKILL MAGAZINE ‘Police Stories’ for increased Critical Chance (there’s a chance you’ll get addicted, however you’ll respawn at right before the Point of No Return so you won’t need to worry about the aftermath of being addicted).
Use the Riot Shotgun and Assault Carbine to deal with Legionnaires and passively whittle down his health. After he runs away to heal, change to your Chainsaw and Grenade Machinegun to finish him off. Make sure to spam Healing Aids as you’ll be taking a ton of damage from both the Legate and the Legionnaires.

OPTION 02: DIPLOMACY
If you have a [SPEECH_100] or [SPEECH_80] + ‘Meeting People’ you can convince The Legate that he won’t be able to hold both the Mojave and Arizona and will face the same issue the NCR had of being spread too thin and letting another dominating force take over. Make sure to not mention him making a retreat or being a coward as this will enrage him and he’ll fight you, leading to Option 01.

Once he’s been dealt with, talk to Yes Man or General Oliver, roll credits and you’ll unlock the achievement.
CLOSING NOTES
And these are my tips, tricks and explanations for obtaining all achievements in the base game. Again this is what I used, feel free to modify, experiment or straight up disregard what I wrote. Please comment if I’m missing anything, you need clarification or want to share your Loadouts during the Second Battle.
