How to convert a failed Honour Mode Run back to Honour Mode from Custom Difficulty
By 😂Xavanux😂
DISCLAIMER
This guide is intended as a file repair tool to restore your failed Honour Mode run. Use it at your own discretion. The process takes about 10 minutes. Yes, it’s technically “cheating,” but since Baldur’s Gate 3 is a single-player game, do what feels right for you.

Hello! I’m Xavanux, and I’m here to help you “save” your failed Honour Mode run by turning your save file from “Custom” difficulty back to “Honour” mode. This step-by-step guide will walk you through the entire process with clear instructions and images to make it as simple as possible.

I originally tried following a Reddit guide (linked below) but found it difficult without visual examples. After spending three hours trialing and testing, I figured out how to do this properly. Now, I’m sharing my complete walkthrough to save you the trouble.

You’ll need to have these programs ready to edit your files without any trouble:

7-zip - for extracting compressed files (free and no ads): https://www.7-zip.org/
*** WinRAR: https://www.win-rar.com/ *** If you prefer, you can use WinRAR instead, but this guide will show examples with 7-zip. ***

Notepad++: for editing text files https://notepad-plus-plus.org/

Norbyte's ExportTool: for converting game file formats
https://github.com/Norbyte/lslib/releases/tag/v1.19.5[/b]
_______________________________________________________________________________

First, you need to have something that can unzip files:

I use 7-zip because it is free and does not spam you like WinRAR does:

Next, you need a program that can read .lsx files. I use notepad++ which is found here:
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/

Once you have downloaded 7-zip, you will need Norbyte's LSLib found at this link:
https://github.com/Norbyte/lslib/releases/tag/v1.19.5

On Norbyte's github, click the "ExportTool-v1.19.5.zip" and download it. Save it to your desktop or anywhere you want. We will unzip it soon in a later step. Make sure to remember where you save this zip file, as you’ll need to extract it in a later step.

Inside you will find the ConverterApp.exe. If you do not see it, ensure you downloaded the correct Norbyte ExportTool. I saved my zip and folder to my desktop, so mine is located at E:\Data\Desktop\ExportTool-v1.19.5\Packed

Now, we need to find your profile8.lsf file which is located in your AppData/Local folder. Here is your shortcut or however your pc is set up:

C:\Users\*InsertUsernameHere*\AppData\Local

If you cannot find it, open your windows search bar and type in %appdata% and press enter. Typing %appdata% and hitting enter takes you to the Roaming folder. From there, click "AppData" in the address bar to go up one level to the Local folder where the files are stored.

From here you can click AppData and it will bring you to your local file.

Go inside the local file in your AppData and you will find "Larian Studios".

Go inside Larian Studios.

Go inside "Baldur's Gate 3".

Go into "PlayerProfiles".

Go inside "Public".

Here is where your profile8.lsf is located. Copy this file and save it somewhere safe or to your desktop. If you’re nervous, make multiple copies on your desktop or a USB drive.

***Baldur's Gate 3 saves your difficulty state within the profile8.lsf and attaches a unique identifier code to the failed Honour mode run, NOT inside your actual save file.***

Now that you have copied and saved your profile8.lsf somewhere safe, we need to open your converter app from the ExportTool we got from Norbyte.

With 7-zip, extract the files from the one we downloaded to the same folder itself:

From here, open the ExportTool folder that just was created:

Inside, you will find all the file contents. We need to run the ConverterApp.exe

Open the converter app and at the top you will need to select "Baldur's Gate 3 64-bit" as the dropdown. If the dropdown isn’t set correctly, conversions won’t work.

Then select the tab that says: LSX/LSB/LSF:

From there you need to input the "profile8.lsf" you copy and saved into the top conversion area:

Now we are going to make sure the file we convert is readable, as .lsf is only readable to the game. By converting to .lsx we can edit with Notepad++

Now that we have converted the .lsf to .lsx, we can now open that new copy with notepad++

At the bottom of that page we opened with notepad++, we need to find the block with the unique identifier codes and remove them. Every unique identifier code is a failed run, even if you have deleted them. FOLLOW EXACTLY AS THE PICTURE SAYS TO DO. We made copies for a reason:

This is the block of code you need to select from. Highlight from the top red line to the bottom as shown in the picture below. Delete the code. Be careful to only delete the block shown in the picture. Removing extra lines can cause errors. It should look like this after:

Now you are done. Save the file.

Go back to your converter and now we are going to do the exact opposite of what we just did. Copy the steps from before for converting .lsf to .lsx but use the NEW .lsx file we just edited and saved.

When you hit convert, you know you are successful when it says "Resource saved successfully." If not, it will tell you exactly what codes do not match. If this happens, delete the .lsx file we created and start over by re-converting the .lsf file copy and make a new .lsx file. If conversion errors persist, make sure you didn’t accidentally delete any extra lines or characters.

Now we just have to put that new profile8.lsf back into your "\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public" folder.

Make sure you have your original backup of profile8.lsf saved elsewhere before replacing.

Replace the profile8.lsf file.

✅ You're Done! Launch Baldur's Gate 3 — your save should now display "Honour" mode again.

Thank you for this guide! I won't be using it but I'm glad others have this option.

Seems like a lot of effort. If you're already going against the spirit of the challenge then you might as well finish it in custom difficulty and then use an achievement unlocker to give yourself the achievement.

Incredible. Thank you.
