By B+
If you are trying to play LMU on a Linux system to no avail, I will explain how to use a custom Proton version to get the game running again. Runs in current LMU update as of 07/28/2025.

What is the problem?
Since 1.0 update, ProtonGE10-10 version fails to run Le Mans Ultimate and the game crashes while loading a track. Thankfully, the community put together a custom ProtonGE version specifically for LMU so we will be using that to fix this problem until the fix is upstreamed properly.
Where to download custom ProtonGE?
I am currently using Bazzite with AMD cpu and gpu. You can download the custom proton version called "GE-Proton10-4 with LMU fixes" from the link below.

How to install custom Proton?
Download the file named " GE-Proton10-4-LMU-fixbuild.tar.gz" and extract the folder in it into Steam's compatibility tools folder as below.

/home/<username>/.steam/steam/compatibilitytools.d/

This is for Bazzite. Other Linux distros can have different install locations so you might have to do some digging to find where Steam is installed. Also, folders with '.' in front of them, like ".steam" are hidden folders, so make sure hidden folders are visible in your file browser settings. Once you extract the folder there, it should look like the following:

/home/<username>/.steam/steam/compatibilitytools.d/GE-Proton10-4-LMU-fixbuild/
How to activate custom ProtonGE?
Once that is done, in your Steam library, right click LMU, click "Properties," then click "Compatibility" tab and choose the custom Proton version you have just downloaded and extracted. Now the game should work. Tested in current build of LMU as of 07/28/2025. If menu screen gets stuck when you click "Resume," in game, just press "ESC" and click "Resume" again.

See you on track!

this also works for CachyOS, you can use protonup-qt (from the official repository) to handle different the proton versions for steam, lutris or heroic. note: be sure to close steam before adding a new version for steam
