1 - Introduction
Welcome to my in-depth and highly requested guide. In this guide I am going to provide basic details and knowledge for the map and fully cover the map's interesting and unique storyline.

This article differentiates for previous guides I have made for maps (Nacht Der Untoten & Verrückt), meaning I am not going to include stuff such as what strategy you will follow or what weapons you will use; this guide is made to provide the community with basical and highly-needed informations that allow the players to learn and know the map better.

Before getting into the real meat of this guide, you know my 'thing' with the comments, so I don't think I should keep repeating myself. Also of note, I will consider some things as known, for example what are stuffs like wonder weapons, traps, buildables, what the basic perks (Juggernog, Speed Cola, etc.) do, and that you can understand and speak English! (really had an issue with that at my previous guide for attachments).

Some things in this guide are a direct copypaste from the Internet. I just mention it in case haters start complaining about cheating.

Without further undo, let's break it down!
2 - Characters & Storyline
Mob of the Dead occurs within the infamous Alcatraz Island and includes the Golden Gate Bridge; the juncture of the map is set during the Prohibition-era of America. The four playable characters are Finn O'Leary, Albert Arlington (a.k.a. Weasel), Salvatore DeLuca and Billy Handsome, all of whom are gangsters who have been locked up on Alcatraz and were planning an escape on the night of the outbreak. Zombies on the island have red eyes, and the Mystery Box has a different look with a red glow, indicating that the zombies are not under Samantha's, Richtofen's or Maxis' control. Many theories have been developed on this issue, and the most possible one (without anything being certain) is that the zombies are under satan's or devil's control.

The primary easter egg featured on Mob of the Dead is called ''Pop Goes The Weasel'' and it follows the players character's attempts to escape the island. It is the first time ever in Zombies that the players can complete the level and end the game without being killed by zombies. It also marks the first time in Zombies that a playable character becomes hostile to the other players. To complete it successfully, players that are controlling Sal, Billy and Finn will have to kill the player controlling Weasel or vice versa. More information on how to complete the easter egg and earn the achievement will be included into a section below.
3 - Basic Info & Structure
Mob of the Dead (also known as Alcatraz Island and Sunset Strip) is the fifteenth (chronologically, the second) Zombies map. It is included in the second Call of Duty: Black Ops II downloadable content pack, Uprising. It was released on April 16, 2013 for Xbox 360 and May 16, 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and PC. Individually, the downloadable content pack costs $14.99, but is also a part of the Season Pass costing $49.99.

Mob of the Dead introduces a new game mechanic, Afterlife Mode (more info at the following section). The map also features a new boss-like zombie, Brutus. He attacks players and also targets various utilities to disable, including Perk-a-Cola machines, workbenches, traps and the Mystery Box.

The map features a number of buildables, including the returning from Tranzit Zombie Shield and the new Acid Gat Kit and Icarus. Any of the numerous workbenches found around the map may be used to craft these buildables, with the exception of Icarus, which must be built on the roof of the prison.

The map also features a new Perk-a-Cola called Electric Cherry, which creates an electric barrier around the player during a reload, and a slighty differentiated version of the firstly-appeared-into-BO2 Deadshot Daiquiri.
4 - Afterlife Mode
Afterlife Mode is a unique game machanic introduced into Mob of the Dead. A player in Afterlife can power and unlock various utilities (such as perks, power-ups, plane parts, etc.) and walk through certain walls to reach areas that are not normally accessible (these areas have can be identified by the Afterlife symbol). The duration of the Afterlife, however, is limited; once the blue meter has depleted, the player will be sent out of the Afterlife and revert to a downed state. However, if playing on co-op, a teammate can temporarily keep reviving you (simply by pressing a bit and releasing the F button). The Afterlife is necessary for collecting the plane components that are dispersed across the map and obtaining the Hell's Redeemer (upgraded version of the Hell's Retriever).

The player can enter into the Afterlife Mode either via the Afterlife switches that are found across the map (usually close to plane parts or Perk-a-Cola machines) or by getting downed. The amount of afterlifes you are permitted to have are restricted to one for public or custom games and to three for solo (playing custom games on solo doesn't count). At the start of every round, every player will earn an Afterlife unless he/she already has the maximum number allowed per game.

At the beginning of every single game, the player(s) will spawn in the Afterlife. The Afterlife Mode in solo kinda replaces the Solo Quick Revive.
5 - Weapons
The map features several additions to the players' arsenal. The Uzi and the AK-47 make their debut in Zombies, as well as the M1927. The Death Machine makes a return as a standard Mystery Box weapon instead of being a power-up. The LSAT is also featured, having previously only appeared in Nuketown Zombies. Also returning from Nuketown Zombies is the Fire Sale power-up. There is a new wonder weapon featured, the Blundergat, a hybrid between a Blunderbuss and a Gatling Gun. There is also a unique tomahawk-like weapon, known as Hell's Retriever. The weapon has a red aura and can pierce through multiple zombies before returning to the player once thrown. A secret melee Wonder Weapon called the Golden Spork can also be obtained; it boasts very high damage and is capable of one-hit kills up to round 34.

Blundergat

The Blundergat is a wonder weapon based on civil war-era weaponry, consisting of ideas from the both the Blunderbuss and Gatling gun. Without upgrades, it acts like a single-shot break-action shotgun, with a one-round magazine and 60 in reserve. Unlike a typical shotgun, the pellets spread out in a completely horizontal line. It is also the first and only Wonder Weapon to shoot regular bullets.

When Pack-a-Punched via the Pack-a-Punch Machine, it becomes The Sweeper, with a two-round magazine and 120 in reserve. The Sweeper is very powerful, being able to kill zombies with one hit until round forty if one has Double Tap and aims for the head.

In addition to Mystery Box, the Blundergat can be obtained after collecting five hidden blue skulls around the map by throwing the Hell's Retriever at them. These skulls can only be seen in Afterlife, although their locations always stay the same each game.
Two can be found at the docks: the other being on a lamppost opposite and to the left of Juggernog on a hill, and the other being on a pillar (third from the left) near the possible Mystery Box spawn.
One can be found on the roof, near the far-left corner (when coming to the roof), sitting on an unreachable corner of the roof.
One can be found in a jail cell with a toilet and a skull next to the library near the starting room.
One can be found near the Warden's Office, in an electric pylon outside the barrier next to Speed Cola (it is recommended to not repair the barrier as the planks can make throwing the Hell's Retriever at the correct spot difficult).

Note that if the free Blundergat is obtained first, then the other one from the Mystery Box cannot be obtained. As so, it's highly advised to get the Blundergat from the Mystery Box first and then get the free one.

Acid Gat

When upgraded with the Acid Gat Kit (more information on theBuildables section), the Blundergat becomes the Acid Gat. It has a three-round magazine and fires in bursts of three rounds. The projectiles stick to walls and other objects (including zombies), and will explode soon after. When shot, the projectiles will typically spread in a very wide angle instead of going where the player aims. These rounds are also capable of hurting the player, although the explosion is somewhat minor and should not considerably damage the player unless already severely hurt. When a zombie is hit by a projectile, they will stand in place until it explodes.

When the Acid Gat is Pack-a-Punched, it becomes the Vitriolic Withering, with increased damage, twice as many projectiles per shot, and the projectiles attract zombies similarly to the upgraded Crossbow and Monkey Bomb.
6 - Wonder Weapons

When the Acid Gat is Pack-a-Punched, it becomes the Vitriolic Withering, with increased damage, twice as many projectiles per shot, and the projectiles attract zombies similarly to the upgraded Crossbow and Monkey Bomb.

Hell's Retriever

The Hell's Retriever can be obtained by feeding six zombies to each of the three Cerberus' heads. The locations of the three Cerberus' heads are as follows:

  • In the 'Broadway' cell block, located near the B23R.
  • In the infirmary adjacent to the Afterlife power box.
  • Near the workbench on the lower level of the docks.
Once the three Cerberus' heads have receded into the wall, and the Cerberus' head icon on the wall is glowing, an area will open up beneath the sign of the three dog heads down in the Citadel Tunnels. In this room will be the Hell's Retriever, waiting to be picked up.

When thrown, it can pierce through a total of six zombies at once, eventually returning to the player. It can also be charged, which adds more damage and distance. This can be done by holding down the tactical button for a maximum of two pulses. If the player throws it towards a power-up, it will retrieve the power-up and bring it back to the player.

The Hell's Retriever can be upgraded into the Hell's Redeemer by completing a series of tasks. As long as it is charged once, it is an instant kill weapon, except on Brutus if he still has his helmet on. In addition, it can be charged three times as opposed to only twice with the Hell's Retriever, however, it still retains the ability to kill a maximum of six zombies at once. The Hell's Redeemer is only obtainable in Original difficulty.

Steps to obtain the Hell's Redeemer
1. After obtaining the regular Hell's Retriever, kill approximately ten to fifteen zombies with the Hell's Retriever. When done, the sound of entering Afterlife and some music should be heard.
2. Spend at least a round using only the Hell's Retriever on the Golden Gate Bridge, killing at least 30 zombies within that round. Once done, the player should hear the Afterlife sound when the round is finished. The player should not shoot weapons as this will restart this step. Knifing the air, however, will not.
3. Throw the Hell's Retriever into the lava pit underneath Cerberus' head near the B23R. If done correctly, the Hell's Retriever will not be returned to the player and the Afterlife sound will be heard once again.
4. On any following round, travel to the Citadel Tunnels where the Hell's Retriever is obtained. If previous steps have been done correctly, the Hell's Retriever should be absent and the aura should be blue rather than red. The Hell's Redeemer can now be picked up in Afterlife.

In co-op, every player can obtain the Hell's Redeemer, but each player has to do the steps themselves. However, multiple players can do the steps simultaneously.

Golden Spork

The Golden Spork is a hidden melee wonder weapon. It is the second most powerful melee weapon in the entirety of Zombies behind the upgraded One Inch Punch, as it can kill a zombie with a single melee attack until round 34.

In order to obtain it, the player must do a series of tasks.

Requirements:
Visit the Golden Gate Bridge at least once.
Must be playing on Original difficulty.
Requires Hell's Retriever
Requires Acid Gat or Vitrolic Withering

Step 1
Find the jail cell with a blue and green movie poster hanging on the wall near the Warden's Office. Throwing a frag grenade or the Hell's Retriever at the poster will remove it, revealing a hole in the wall.

Step 2
Enter Afterlife Mode. There is a portal entrance at the end of the row of cells near the Warden's Office. Enter the portal and zap a spoon lying on the floor to the right of a large crack with a skull in it. When performed correctly, the player will hear the Demonic Announcer laugh.

Step 3
Enter the cafeteria and proceed to the barrier at the back of the room. There is a table against the left wall inside the barrier, and the spoon will now be laying on top if it. In order to pick up the spoon, the player will need to throw the Hell's Retriever at it. If done correctly, the player will hear Brutus. (This step must be completed for each player who wishes to obtain the Golden Spork.)

Between this and the next step, the player is given a silver spoon as a melee weapon. This spoon is roughly as strong as Galvaknuckles.

Step 4
Enter the infirmary and locate the lone bathtub filled with blood opposite a Mystery Box spawn. Hold the action button when next to the bathtub. A silver spoon will appear and stir the blood. (This step must be completed for each player who wishes to obtain the Golden Spork.)

Step 5
Enter the underground showers and kill zombies using the Acid Gat or Vitriolic Withering. When the correct amount of zombies have been killed (about 50-70 kills), the Demonic Announcer's laugh will be heard once again.

Step 6
Re-enter the infirmary and return to the lone bathtub filled with blood. Hold the Use button and a zombified hand will raise out of the blood grasping the Golden Spork. Press the Use button to take the Spork, and it will be removed from the hand. (Note: This step must be completed for each player who wishes to obtain the Golden Spork.)

If a player dies after obtaining the Golden Spork, they must complete steps 3 and 4 again. The Golden Spork will again rise into the zombified hand, and the player can once again take it.
7 - Traps & Utilities
Purchasable traps also return, having last appeared in Ascension. The map features three new, innovative traps: the Fan Trap, the Acid Trap and the Tower Trap; the last of which can be upgraded via Afterlife mode to fire rockets rather than bullets. A new utility is also introduced, the Gondola (costs 750 points), which can transport players between the main prison and the docks similarly to the Zipline in Shi No Numa.
8 - Buildables
The map features three buildables: the Zombie Shield, the Acid Gat Kit which is a form of upgrading the Blundergat, and the Icarus, the plane that allows the player to escape the island.

Zombie Shield

After Tranzit, the Zombie Shield appears at Mob of the Dead as well. This time is made of three parts rather than two, found at the docks and citadel tunnels. The best location to build itis the workbench at the cafeteria.

Acid Gat Kit

Made of three parts found across the map, this buildable allows you to turn the Blundergat into the Acid Gat, thus turn a powerful shotgun into a launcher of acid Monkey Bombs! Build it at the workbench next to Electric Cherry's machine.

Icarus

It plays an important role into the map. It is made from five parts that are scattered across the map and need the Warden's Key to be unlocked. The plane lets the player(s) to access the Golden Gate Bridge where the Pack-a-Punch machine is located. The player(s) is (are) able to return to Alcatraz by using the Electric Chairs found on the bridge; they will subsequently be sent to the starting room in Afterlife Mode. They can also go back to the Golden Gate Bridgesimply by refueling the plane with the gas cans found at where the plane plarts were firstly found.

9 - Perks
Mob of the Dead features only five Perk-a-Colas: Juggernog, Speed Cola, Double Tap Root Beer II, Deadshot Daiquiri (a slightly changed version of it) and the firstly-introduced Elextric Cherry. I am not going to cover what the first three perks do (supposed to know that as stated at the intro), so I will just go with the brand new perk and Deadshot Daiquiri.

Electric Cherry

Electric Cherry is a Perk-a-Cola introduced in Mob of the Dead and seen in Origins (last zombie map for Black Ops II) in the Der Wunderfizz machine. It creates an electric shockwave around the player whenever they reload that may stun or kill an adjacent zombie, depending on the round you are. Even on higher rounds, where the damage of the shock is negligible, the perk can be a life saver, as it stuns Zombies for a couple of seconds. Contrary to popular belief, the radius of the electric shockwave does not increase cumulatively every time the player reloads; instead the radius of the shockwave is determined by how many rounds the player has in their magazine. Example, expending the whole magazine will give the maximum shockwave radius and expending only one round from a large magazine will have very minor effects. It is worth noting that since the Blundergat and its upgraded variants (Acid Gat, Vitriolic Withering) only fire one shot or burst at a time, it will always produce a shockwave of maximum effect when using Electric Cherry, making the Perk-a-Cola valuable to have. In addition, the perk cannot be reload spammed, so if a player stops reloading, and then continues, they will not receive the effects of Electric Cherry until they fully reload and fire some of their ammo.

The color for this perk is blue (although the color of the drink is cherry red) and the icon is a red cherry with a lightning bolt. The perk machine is located on the top level of the Cell Block, directly above Cerberus' head drawing near the B23R in front of a crafting table. It is very old and rusted, with no paint job unlike other Perk-A-Cola machines. It is shaped similar to the Quick Revive machine. It has spikes on the sides of the machine, and electric rods on the sides of the perk logo. There is a compartment up the machine filled with Electric Cherry bottles, a Zombie head and hand. The Electric Cherry is the only Perk-a-Cola with no jingle and it costs 2000 points to purchase in Mob of the Dead (1500 points in Origins via the Der Wunderfizz machine).

Deadshot Daiquiri

This perk was introduced into the Black Ops map Call of the Dead and appeared at two more maps afterwards (Shangri-la & Moon). In Black Ops II it appears for the first time in Mob of the Dead and it's also seen in Origins, available via the Der Wunderfizz machine (just like Electric Cherry). The perk does what the Black Ops version did (tightens crosshairs by 35%, moves the aim-assist lock-on location from the torso to the head when playing with controller, reduces the recoil on sniper rifles, remove the idle sway on sniper rifles, lunges the blade when knifing on enemy's face) with the only exception it now reduces the recoil on all weapons, not only on the sniper rifles. This causes a small increase to the perk's buying cost on PC, from 1000 points to 1500 (the cost on consoles stays at 1500). If you have a weapon or you're the player that relies a lot on accuracy, then this perk is effective, otherwise it's rather useless, especially on Mob of the Dead where the close-quarter nature of the map makes the Electric Cherry extremely necessary.

The color of the perk is grey, and the icon is a sniper scope aiming in on a human's head. The Deadshot Daiquiri has a worn out grey and white paint job, with a screen with "Deadshot Daiquiri" on it. Under it are two soda fountains and a bottle dispenser, in the dispenser, one can see a broken wine glass. On the top, there is a large novelty martini glass filled with blood. On the left rim of the glass, there is a grey lemon slice with the Deadshot Daiquiri shield on it. It is located near the Uzi location inside the infirmary, before the stairs to the roof (close to Cerberus' head drawing). In Cell Block it is located to the right when entering the cafeteria.
10 - New Boss
Mob of the Dead features a new boss zombie, known as Brutus, who can disable perk machines, Icarus, workbenches used to craft buildable items, and the Mystery Box. Reactivating them requires 2000 points, though the cost scales up by 2000 with each utility disabled in a single round. He can be killed, but does not have his own round. Instead, he appears alongside other zombies, similarly to George A. Romero from Call of the Dead, making him difficult to kill. Upon death he will drop a power-up. Additionally, Brutus will spawn inside the map if the player(s) spend too much money investing in the Mystery Box. He will also appear randomly throughout various hordes. If Brutus encounters an active trap, he will stop moving for a while and disable the trap.
11 - Easter Egg
Pop Goes The Weasel is an achievement/trophy featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops II. It is the main Easter egg featured in Mob of the Dead and it is the continuation of the achievement/trophy, No One Escapes Alive.

This Easter egg has two possible outcomes: "THE CYCLE CONTINUES..." or "THE CYCLE IS BROKEN."

Walkthrough

Prerequisites:
A minimum of two players are required; however, one must be Albert Arlington.
The game must be on Original difficulty.
The players must obtain the Hell's Retriever by feeding all three of the heads of Cerberus.

Step 1
A player has to obtain the Blundergat by collecting five blue skulls hidden around the map (getting the Blundergat via the Mystery Box does not suffice). They can only be seen in Afterlife, although their locations will always stay the same through each game. They can be collected by throwing the Hell's Retriever at them, and if thrown at the right spot, the Hell's Retriever comes back with the blue skull on it.

One can be found on the roof, near the far-left corner (when coming to the roof), sitting on an unreachable corner of the roof.
Two can be found at the docks: one being on a lamppost opposite and to the left of Juggernog on a hill, and the other being on a pillar (third from the left) near the possible Mystery Box spawn.

Step 2
The cycle must have been completed at least once (by flying to the Golden Gate bridge and coming back via the electric chair) before this step can be initiated.

There is a jail cell with a poster in it near the entrance to the Warden's Office. When a grenade or the Hell's Retriever is thrown at the poster, it will come off and behind it is an Afterlife symbol. A player then needs to go to Afterlife via the nearby electric panel and go through a hole left of it, then zap a spoon on the ground. If done correctly, the Demonic Announcer's laugh is heard and the spoon disappears.

Step 3
There is now a spoon on the table behind a barrier in the cafeteria, next to the Claymore. The Hell's Retriever should be thrown at it, and Brutus will be heard talking.

Step 4
The cycle must have been completed at least three times before this step can be initiated.

Head back to the spiral staircase and go to the bottom where the number terminal is located. If all prior steps and three cycles have been completed, they will be randomly changing. The player must now enter Afterlife mode and enter the mobster's prison numbers. The numbers are 101, 386, 872, and 481. If entered correctly, the number will flicker and start to randomly change again. Once all numbers have been input correctly, Brutus will speak and subsequently, the screen will turn black and white and Stanley Ferguson will begin to narrate the mobsters' escape plan.

It is advised that the player in Afterlife has another player near their original body to repeatedly partially revive them thus granting more time available for the player in Afterlife to enter the numbers, as the time in Afterlife is likely to run out before the player can enter the numbers and revive their character.

Step 5
The players must now make their way to the infirmary where Cerberus' head is located. The players must start by heading up the spiral staircase where they will see a Headphone drop. These drops further explain the characters stories during their plan to escape. The rest will be found along the general route to the infirmary. The player must wait for one partition of the story to finish before they are able to pick up another Headphone drop.

After picking up the last headphone drop on the roof, a player must enter the Afterlife (it is advised checking the plane is on the roof first then entering Afterlife whilst in the infirmary). The player in the Afterlife will then need to board the plane, and all other players will be put into Afterlife mode and teleported on the plane. In theory, the plane hasn't to be refueled, but doing such a thing may cause the easter egg at this point to glitch out, making the ending unable to complete.

When the players land on the Golden Gate Bridge, they will need to revive themselves on the electric chairs. Eventually, the player playing as Albert Arlington will see a kill marker over the others' heads, and the player(s) not playing as Albert Arlington will see a kill marker over his head. The Easter egg will be completed when either Arlington or the others are killed.

Endings
There are two endings to this Easter egg, both ending the game immediately with the screen stating "LIFE OVER". The first ending, or "the cycle continues" ending, is achieved when Weasel is successfully killed. The second ending, or "the cycle is broken" ending, is achieved when Weasel successfully kills the other players.

The Zombies are under control of Brutus, he has turned Alcatraz into a sort of purgatory and the 4 mobsters are stuck in an endless time loop until they break it somehow.
