Here are some advise on how to beat the game on any difficulty:
Character Selection

Ophelia is my favourite character. She has 3 extra slots for collecting more stuff so I don't need to move back and forth to unload stuff, and outrunning zombies with her decent speed is the key for survival.

Horde Meter
  • Each step will fill the horde meter, so try to move efficiently.
  • Looting items with a red exclamation mark will fill up the horde meter.
  • Turning off save mode on a computer will unlock barriers, but it will also fill up the horde meter even if you don't move, so use it wisely.

While on safe mode off you have to do things fast, so type the thing you want to grab beforehand while your character is moving to that spot.

Combat
If you do combat, the first rule is not to panic and misstype everything. Stay calm if you do a typo and correct it. Don't overthink and decide fast, or you might get overwhelmed by your enemies.

In the exploring phase: Don't hesitate to use heavy weapons on special enemies... there might be more of them popping out before you can react to them. Check for sound cues before entering a new room and check the corners if you opened the door to dispel any surprise attacks.

While on horde phase: Try to find a way to finish the zombies via baiting or narrow places one by one if you don't have any ranged weapons. If you run far away, those zombies will wander around a little, and the group might be less big. You can also use a ladder or jump around until the horde phase is over. If you don't need to come back, you can just outrun them and move on to the next area.

Filming Reels Management (Checkpoints)
First of all, you can insert the filming reel into the camera before saving, which frees up one slot for you.
  • There are like 3 filming reels on each chapter so I usually use them on certain stages:
Early stage (before or after the first horde)
Mid stage (explored every area except locked doors)
Final Stage (where I have all the tapes)

  • Don't save when horde mode is active because the game will reset the horde meter to 90% if you rewind and most of the spawned zombies are still there. Another problem is that devices you powered on or unlocked are on reset, so you have to do it again if you want to use those.

Escape Phase
Planks are very important in this phase. You can go inside and barricade the elevator before trying to fix the broken switch device. It gives you enough breathing room to fix the device without the need of someone having to protect you during this QTE.

If you are lucky, you may find some planks near the elevator. Just leave it there for the escape phase so you can save up one free slot for other loot.

If nothing works
If you can't find any ranged weapon at all and the odds are all against you, try to restart and let the game generate a new level with better spawns.
