Let me share a rookie lesson I learned the hard way—don’t sell those early sticks, grass, and rocks! When you first arrive on Grandpa’s farm, it’s tempting to clear everything out and start planting. That’s exactly what I did. Instead of turning all that debris into tool upgrades, I sold it in the shipping bin. Big mistake!

Those bits of debris are essential—the early materials you need to upgrade your sickle, hammer and ax right away. I skipped that step and ended up stuck with weak tools vs the tools I use most often —like the watering can, hoe, and sickle for harvesting. Now, I’m using winter to catch up, gradually improving not only my hammer and ax but fishing rod as well. What I also learned regarding tool levels is that an "up gradable" tool does not mean is at a higher "level." When a tool is up gradable you have reached a percentage of use that now allows you to have a different finish to the tool i.e. copper, silver, etc. Leveling up is the strength you can exert when you charge your tool before you swing it. Pro tip- at the end of the day, if you have some stamina left, use it to swing your tools within your home before you go to sleep. It will help with upgrading your tools faster.
