Introduction
Since football is a team based game, you can't ego your way to victory. In short, understanding your position, when to pass, when to shoot, when to dribble, WILL make or break your chances to win.

I'll put some crudely made examples down below and to explain the ideas of different formations, I'll write them above the image, as well as pros&cons below them.
My aim here is to make some people understand how vital it is to fill up empty spaces instead of hugging their own teammates.

Number of players are limited to 5 per team, so realistically there are only few possible formations.
1-3
Two wingers move up the field (when in possession) or down (when the ball is lost)

Pros:
attacking more fluidly from both flanks, wingers can cross into the box for the Center forward or switch the attacking side.

Cons:
often defense can be easily overwhelmed 1v2 (or more), Keeper will have to do the heavy lifting.

When in possession, 1 should always keep the half-line occupied.

When out of possession/ball is lost during the attack, 1 should fall back near box, wingers should fall back and 4 can try to press them in their own half but if there's no success there, they must occupy same area 1 was in.

Essentially, out of possession formation becomes 3-1.
1-2-1
While not as flexible as 1-3/3-1, 1-2-1 offers great options for high possession. Keeper can breathe little more easily, two midfielders can play around each other or help 1 defend more quickly.

Pros:
Defense should be more sound. keeping the ball rolling, passing to 1 or the keeper as last resort. I think, while ahead goal or two, this option is sound, but never when score is even or down.

Cons:
Basically leaving 4 alone near their box to get lucky.

You can form triangles with teammates to keep the ball moving.

2-2
Hawk2-2 requires pairs of two up the pitch and down the pitch, it doesn't get as simple as this. you move up together, you go back together. as in 1-3, last two should occupy half-way line while in possession. Front two should come back to it when not in possession.

Pros:
long crosses and individuality shines here.

Cons:
a lot of dead spaces for opponents to occupy and exploit. Teammates are too far to chain passes.

this should never be the go to formation, but when opponent gets used to the already used formation, you can pull this one out of the bag.

hugging the line creates a lot of space in the center if you want to make way for a dribbling run. if no one occupies it, one good run from defense can tilt the attack to 3v2. if opponents decide to send one man to occupy it, one of your teammates will be free from marking.

That's about it. Please pass.
If you'd like to add something, let me know. Otherwise that's it for me, best of luck and WE GOT IT
