Introduction
Hi, I am 4LB3RT0_ (spoken: Alberto) and I am want to share some of my experiences throughout my SSL journey and want to give advice to the new players of SSL.
If you feel like this Guide is helping you out, I would appreciate if some of you would join my Discord Server (SSL4Fun Gaming): https://discord.gg/SKmdNfXNzr
Sorry for Self Promotion and have Fun reading!
The "Tricks" of SSL
As you might have already seen in a few Guides, there are things you can try, to make yourself a better player. one of them being the "100; 86 angle trick", which just means that you hit the edge of your aiming circle with the angle 100; 86, if there is no wind involved.
My Advice: Dont use these tricks at all, if you are planning to play this Game for more than 100 hrs, because it may help you at the start of your SSL journey but you wont get better, if you are using it 24/7. So just aim the way you think it would hit your opponent. It will be frustrating at first, because you will miss most of your shots, but you will get better very fast.
But what can help to improve your aiming skill fast? Turn on high wind and high obstacles. Wind just is a factor making the Gameplay a bit more interesting and the angle tricks dont work here. High obstacles can be used in two ways:
1. Trying to avoid them, as this helps you thinking about what you shoot and how you shoot it.
2. Trying to work with the obstacles, as it helps you to think a bit more complex about the whole situation. You may end up with the sickest trickshot ever, if you just tried it, but if you dont try it there will be no skill improvement.
Your Enemies
Try to play against more experienced, more skilled or even high Level players. It will help you to understand the way these people play the Game and can help you improve your own skill. if you end up playing with weaker players, thats okay too: You can try new weapons you dont understand yet or do some trickshots to improve your skillshot knowledge. But dont play against them as you would do against any other player. If you know, that you can easily win the match, try out some new stuff instead of killing them in 2 or 3 turns.
And one pro tip: Dont beg for God Rays in a Lobby with Level 100 players. This either causes being ignored completely or being kicked from the Lobby. These people also just want to play the Game as you do and dont want any stress whatsoever. if you know the person, you can ask them, to get God Rays but please dont do it in an open Lobby :)
Communities
The SSL Community has many small communities, which mostly work together. There are the clans like HDTG, DRS6, GGNM, LND, etc., the Steam Groups and the Discord Servers. It can help you to join any of them to get to know some other players and start playing with some of them frequently. Its the easiest to do it on Discord and the hardest to join a rather big clan. But be aware: Although many of these clans and Servers may work together, there can still be tensions and other things. So if you join one of them, it can mean, that they can now kind of control your journey (at least partly). So you might need to think about whom to join, before doing the wrong decision for yourself.
Thanks for Reading
Thats already it for this short and hopefully helpful guide troughout your personal SSL journey. Make sure to follow these advices, as they can really help you to improve your skill, to do things the right way and also to maybe make some new friends.
I know this Guide may not be perfect, but its part of my own experience as a rather new SSL player who may be a level 100 soon. If there are any things you might want to correct/point out or if you just happen to have any question, you can tell me/ask them in the comment section of this Guide.
