Exiled Kingdoms Vanilla With Choco Chips (Visual Mod)
By DonHuman
Very simple mod made with the intention to provide some visual QoL changes without changing anything gameplay wise, allowing people that would like these kind of additions to still be able to enjoy the original game

What does this do exactly?
Basically 3 things:

  • Icons for all items have been changed and/or shuffled to make it easier to distinguish them just from a single glance (no more having to read each item in case you get rid of something useful by mistake)
  • Sprite and palette changes for all enemies (and some friendly NPC), for variety
  • Of course, most armor and weapons also have their own palettes now

Not much and I gotta admit that that it may not be really polished in general, but I think its good enough to give the game a new coat of paint to experience it again from the beginning, even if I have made some questionable aesthetical choices here and there (see BYA section)

Is important to note that I didnt go crazy with the changes tho, I kept it tame because I tried to do everything having the lore and descriptions in mind to avoid any possible issues (so things are all already in the game either unused content or the same but edited, no new images from me, call me lazy if you want), so no need to worry about that... too much
Installation
  • 1. Download the .exe file
  • 2. Right click the game on your library and browse local files
  • 3. Backup and replace the original .exe with the new one
  • 4. Profit
Before you ask (BYA)
  • All the changes are visual, so yes, you technically could use your previous save, but it seems already spawned things dont change unless you make them "respawn", sleeping does that but no idea if it works with every single thing out there, didnt test it much tbh but there shouldnt be any problems, I am just saying I cant be completely sure (basically if you are in the same area as the enemy it means it already spawned using whatever the game asked at that moment, so you could use a previous save before making it spawn or try going there after sleeping, teleporting to other places or stuff like that)

  • Yes, the leather cap looking like a hood is intentional, I just didnt wanted to repeat the sprite so I moved some things around to make it fit, the hard leather cap is intact of course and the apprentice set has a different colored hood, I swear that is the weirdest thing I did, but I had to do it for the sake of the firedancer fashion set (?)

  • Yes, demon wolf skull now looks a little bit more like a wolf skull

  • Yes, vampires exposed heads dont produce shadows anymore, first thing I changed

Imagine what you will be able to do with all those seconds saved!

Fashion never seen before, the posibilities are a little bit less limited!

Change the "b"s for www and com!

This game is a very simple game, that being one of its strong points, so I know to a lot of people what I did may seem unnecesary, but if you are the kind of person that may find these stuff useful or pleasing then I am satisfied, this is for you, also big thanks to Lamrofen (author of ENB+ mod) for taking the time to teach me the basics of modding the game, I wouldnt have know where to even start without his help.

I did my best to test it properly and check everything is in order but this game crashes if you mess up with the sprites so I need to know to fix it, also when I mean all item icons should be changed I am not including keys, books or the galade orb, anything else that isnt changed may be a mistake (or just something I forgot to mention)

I think the game just doesnt know where to use what you did, or maybe you deleted a space while editing values? sadly I cant help you much with that, I think it would be better if you asked one of the more talented modders out there like the author of ENB+ for example, they may be able to give you a more precise answer

could i just ask, how do you mod this game without it crashing? I extracted the.jar file went to items.txt simply coppied the leather armour pasted it below (so all lines are intact) modified the values to make a custom set, overwrote the items.txt inside the .jar with the new one and it crashed on load... I also tried not coppying and simply modifying the value of a single item to see what happens and it still crashes... im not sure where im going wrong.
