Introduction
Please watch over Zoi's soul warmly as it embarks on a journey of new learning.

Before we get to the guide, I want to remind that if you find an error in the guide or find a new way to trigger a certain death, please let me know.

This guide goes over each death type and how these happen. In some parts I have looked into the game files using InZoi's Mod kit (especially the future part and debunking some info).

The game is said to have 16 different deaths, which include:
  • Old Age/Natural Causes
  • Fire
  • Starvation
  • Sleep Deprevation
  • Lack of Recognition
  • Overwork
  • Electrocution
  • Traffic Accident
  • Slipping and Falling
  • Food Poisoning
  • Anger
  • Freezing
  • Overheating
  • Embarrassment?
  • Disease?
  • Drowning?
For now, the game has less, yet more are coming in the future. The entries with question mark aren't possible in the game now, but may be in the future.

When a Zoi dies, they'll get removed from the household and a pop-up will be displayed. From the pop-up you can load a previous save or continue from there. Zois with bad karma become ghosts, but Ghost Play has not yet been implemented. However, you can hire a Soul Guide from the Pocket Market to summon their ghost and talk to them.

There is no way to bring Zois back from death... At least there shouldn't be any...

Use the chapters on the right to jump to the desired death.

Currently, there are 17 ways for a Zoi to die in Inzoi:
Death by Natural Causes
Zoi has embarked on the final journey of life, embracing death.
This Zoi lived a full life, gaining knowledge through many experiences.

The one with the notification "[Name] has passed away."

Senior Zois can die by it at any time. The city Health Level setting can affect this. In addition, female Zois tend to live longer than male Zois.
However, any Zoi can die this way with 'removeZoi' cheat. Well, it seems the same, but the code, the interaction is different. This can be seen in-game too: Zois that die by old age get an interaction called "Die by Natural Causes" while cheat-caused death's interaction simply reads "Die". The notification that pops up is the same though.

Zois created before the version v0.1.3 can die this way before they become a Senior.
Death by Fire
Zoi passed away due to a fire.

Fires can be caused by cooking, malfunctioning electronics, playing with fire etc.

If a Zoi stands near an active fire for some time, they'll get Terrified due to being too close to the fire. If the Zoi continues being near fire, they'll die.
Death by Malnutrition
Zoi has sadly reached the end of their life due to malnutrition after a period of severe hunger.

Zois can survive without food for 2 days. Once Hunger gauge reaches empty, the first 12 hours will be uncomfortable. It then turns into worse 24 hour warning. Once 12 hours is left, this notification pops up:
On the Brink of Starvation
Zoi is enduring severe hunger. If 12 hours pass without food, they may lose their precious life. Share food and treat them with kindness to prevent a tragic outcome.

Ignoring the warning and letting the Zoi starve will eventually lead to their death. Children who are starved will be sent to Child Protection Agency instead.
Death by Sleep Deprivation
Adequate sleep is always the foundation of good health.
Remember how crucial proper sleep and rest are, and how significantly healthy lifestyle habits impact the balance of life.

Zois can survive without sleep for 2 days. Once Sleep gauge reaches empty, the first 12 hours will be uncomfortable. It then turns into worse 24 hour warning. Once 12 hours is left, this notification pops up:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Zoi is struggling with extreme fatigue and exhaustion. If they do not rest within 12 hours, it could prove fatal. Prioritize recovery through deep sleep to restore their well-being.

Ignoring the warning and keeping the Zoi awake will eventually lead to their death. Children will simply faint.
Running Away Due to Lack of Recognition
Zoi has vanished without a trace.
Deeply disheartened by the feeling of not being acknowledged, Zoi eventually left everything behind and walked away.

Recognition is a need I don't really understand, but it falls if your Zoi doesn't have a positive social interaction with other Zois. Once Recognition gauge reaches empty, the first 12 hours the Zoi will be depressed. It then turns into worse 24 hour warning. Once 12 hours is left, this notification pops up:
Fill the Recognition gauge to help them live a life of wellness
Zoi has lost all motivation, believing they are not being recognized. Their mind feels barren, as lifeless as a desert. In 12 hours, they may choose to disappear without anyone knowing. Help them fill their Recognition gauge so they can thrive alongside others.

Ignoring the warning and leaving Zoi in this state will cause them to run away as the game says. Children will be sent to Child Protection Agency.

While this does not produce a ghost and is implied not to be a death, the game treats this as a death in code. Thus Zois will mourn those who have run away as if they have died.
Death by Overwork
With low energy, Zoi was unable to endure the excessive activity and ultimately passed away.

If Zoi has very low or empty Energy need, continuing doing actions that require energy (like working out) may result in death eventually.
Death by Electrocution
An unexpected and unfortunate accident has abruptly extinguished the flame of Zoi's life.

This can rarely happen from failed electronic repairs.

Can also happen when trying to rob an ATM.
Death by Traffic Accident
While there's an order to arrivals, there's no order to departures.

If a Zoi is in a way of a speeding vehicle, they can die from it. It is easily caused with driving a vehicle yourself while Manual Driving enabled.

If your Zoi riding a smaller vehicle (motorcycle, scooters etc) collides with a car, there's a chance that your Zoi gets killed.

If you kill another Zoi by running them over, the Zoi driving the vehicle will be put in jail.
Death by Falling
No one could have anticipated that a small misfortune like slipping would lead to such an outcome.

A room with broken plumbing carries a risk of a Zoi slipping there. When a Zoi slips, there's a small chance that they'll die.
Death by Food Poisoning
Life often brings us great sorrow when we least expect it.
No one could have foreseen that a minor incident like food poisoning would lead to such a significant outcome.

Caused by eating or sniffing spoiled food.

Can be caused more easily with Poison Doughnut from Meow Store.
Death by Anger
It is often said that illness is a malfunction of the mind rather than the body.
Even when life feels fulfilling and death seems distant, it's always right beside us.

Can happen if Zoi uses mean interactions when in Enraged emotional state.
Death by Hypothermia
Unable to withstand the cold, Zoi followed the presence that quiets all.

When the weather reaches around 0°C or 32°F, the weather becomes cold and Zois automatically wear their Winter outfit. Zois not wearing it or even wearing light clothing like Summer or Swimwear will become cold faster. The lower the temperature is, the worse the cold will be.

Eventually, cold Zois get this warning:
Freezing Winds
Zoi is wearing light clothing in the icy cold.
Enduring these conditions with their frail body for over 30 minutes could lead to them joining the inevitable darkness that awaits us all. Make sure Zoi puts on some warm clothes to keep them from being swept away into the abyss.

After 30 minutes, the Zoi will become Afraid due to Brain Freeze. If nothing is done, the Zoi simply freezes to death after some time. Children who are freezing will be sent to Child Protection Agency instead.

Note. Weather manipulation through Edit City screen only lasts for 1 hour, which is not enough to kill any Zoi.
Death by Heatstroke
Unable to withstand the heat, Zoi crossed the threshold where all things come to a halt.

When the weather reaches around 30°C or 86°F, the weather becomes hot and Zois automatically wear their Summer outfit. Heatwave disaster, which can occur in every city, will raise the temperature even higher. Zois not wearing light outfit or even wearing heavy clothing like Winter outfit will heat up faster. The higher the temperature is, the worse the heat will be.

Eventually, heated Zois get this warning:
Scorching Heat
Zoi is dressed in heavy clothing in life-threatening heat.
Spending more than 30 minutes in these conditions with their aged body may lead to them meeting the merciless touch of their maker. Make sure Zoi puts on clothes that keep them cool to prevent the winds of fate from blowing them away.

After 30 minutes, the Zoi will become Afraid due to intense heat. If nothing is done, the Zoi dies by heatstroke after some time. Children who are overheated will be sent to Child Protection Agency instead.

Note. Weather manipulation through Edit City screen only lasts for 1 hour, which is not enough to kill any Zoi.
Death by Drowning
Zoi has died from a lack of oxygen.

In works for now.

Theory: Caused by low energy need while swimming. You'll get a warning when a Zoi is about to drown.

I suspect it being broken for now due to game requesting death by electrocution animation which cannot be done while swimming.
Death by Shark Attack
Zoi has been killed by a shark.

In Bliss Bay and Cahaya, there are shark infested areas. Entering these will give you a brief warning that you are in one such area. First warning does nothing, but the following warnings will make your Zoi scared. After that, your Zoi has a chance to die if they spend too much time there.

Check Cahaya's Lessons or in-game town map to see which places are shark-infested.

This death has no animation.
Death by Jellyfish Attack
Zoi has perished from a jellyfish sting.

In Bliss Bay and Cahaya, there are jellyfish infested areas. Entering these will give you a brief warning that you are in one such area. First warning does nothing, but the following warnings will make your Zoi scared. After that, your Zoi has a chance to die if they spend too much time there.

Check Cahaya's Lessons or in-game town map to see which places are jellyfish-infested.

I suspect it being broken for now due to game requesting death by electrocution animation which cannot be done while swimming.
Death by Lightning
Zoi passed away after being struck by lightning.

In Cahaya, one on the natural disasters that can happen there is Heavy Rain. This causes the ground to flood for some time and make Zois unable to use vehicles. If your Zoi is outdoors during Heavy Rain, there's a small chance that they can get struck by lightning and die.

While Heavy Rain only naturally occurs in Cahaya, with this cheat you can make it happen in other cities:
controlDisaster HeavyRain
The Future?
Looking into the code, there are some deaths that are unfinished and aren't currently possible in-game. These include:
  • Death by Embarrassment (Interaction exists in the game, but no death notification exists yet, therefore it's almost complete but is currently not possible)
  • Death by High Fever (Trigger exists, but does nothing for now)
  • Death by Hypothermia (A separate trigger from Hypothermia aka Freeze exists but does nothing for now, unsure if this is a mistake)

There is also one death that spreads around the Internet but found no evidence of in the game file:
  • Death by Pollution - Some said that cities get polluted, I theorized low house cleanliness, but found no evidence of the death in game files.

As the game gets updates and more features, I'll keep an eye on changes and update the list accordingly.
