How to fix audio not playing after Jan 16th update(if you haven't found out yet)
By GigaCars
Doesn't need 7Zip, but basic knowledge on how to get to hidden files is preferred(to access game logs, you need to go to appdata)

I can help you through it if you need more information, feel free to ask
Works with Windows 7 SP1(it's the OS i'm using btw)

I heavily recommend that you know how to get to hidden files e.x appdata, this will give you access to game logs and will help a lot to finding out if what you did the game noticed(without the fix, it will say it can't find XAudio2_9)

Also requires basic knowledge on how to pull redist files from folders
Step 1: Download a XAudio2_9 redist
MAKE SURE IT'S A OFFICIAL ONE, AS YOU CAN GET MALWARE IF IT ISN'T

First, find a redist of XAudio2_9 and get the latest version, you can use NuGet if you want but there is a second site i forgot the name of, download the latest version(1.2.13 as of this guide)
Quick link to NuGet download: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.XAudio2.Redist/
Step 2: Finding the redist for use
I see you haven't instantly gave up after Step 1, good job, you know how to read!

After downloading, open the archive(or change it's extension to a zip and open with Windows Explorer), and follow the file path below, you will see xaudio2_9redist.dll if you got to it correctly
Step 3A: Making the redist work
There are 2 ways at making it work, this one is recommended(and tested by me)

Now that you got the redist of xaudio2_9, remove redist from the name, you can capitalize it to XAudio if you want* though

Now, go to Space Engineers and right click it, then click Properties
After, go to Installed Files and click Browse..
Then once your in the games exe files, go to Bin64, and drop the XAudio2_9 redist into it, confirm that it's named properly

Now all you need to do is start Space Engineers and go to Settings and move the sliders

If you can't hear sound, well then you messed something up, double check that you didn't put it into x64, it shouldn't be there, nor should it be in x86, just plain old Bin64

*Did not test it without capitalization
Step 3B: Making the redist work
There are 2 ways at making it work, this one is not recommended(and untested) and requires some extra computer knowledge to not accidentally delete smth essential via a accidental sticky key delete
BE CAREFUL, ONE WRONG MOVE CAN AND WILL CRIPPLE YOUR OS(unless you don't delete anything(maybe))

Now, you have XAudio2_9, as mentioned in 3A you can capitalize it but i think it matters more here

Go to OS and double click Windows
Don't delete anything here, scroll down to System32 and drop XAudio2_9 into there(may require restart to work(requires admin permissions))
Afterward, see if it works
End
Uh ok you got to the end of the guide

Well at least you can hear 10000000 refineries blasting your ears again ig lmao
Safe travels, engineer

..You thought i'd ask for likes or awards? i consider it begging to ask for those, you do you with your steam points XD
also, just a reminder, if you loose to the factorum in a all heavy armor brick with OP weapons, you have a skill issue :skull:

I must thank for this guide as I experienced an audio problem with my Space Engineers and Windows 7, however I must admit I'm unable to test this tweak as, in my case, audio disappeared only when I was online and someone used voice chat. Until I'm in a server and someone talks nearby me, all the sound worked. Now I must find someone and ask him to speak!:TravelerWalking::TravelerWalking:
