The Refurbished Plasma Cutter is an in-game bonus content, awarded to those who have a Dead Space (2008) save file present.


Unlike on Windows where it is automatically obtained, on Linux systems this is not the case despite having Dead Space (2008) installed and its respective save file present.

The reason for it being unobtainable despite having a Dead Space 1 save file is because Dead Space 2 is looking for the save file located in the Documents folder.

On Windows, both Dead Space (2008) and Dead Space 2 save files are located under the same directory through their respective folders:


On Linux, both games save files are not located under the same Documents directory, but are rather located in their own Documents folders due to Proton through WINE, generating a prefix to create a Windows C: drive directory structure, and mounting the save files under that file structure for compatibility.

In this case, the save file location for both games are as followed on Linux:

Due to both game's save directories being in two separate locations; Dead Space 2 is unable to locate Dead Space 1's save file, thus making the Refurbished Plasma Cutter unobtainable.

As mentioned previously, a Dead Space 1 save file and its folder must be present in the same folder where Dead Space 2's save directory is located. You don't even need Dead Space 1 installed, just the save file is required.


Assuming you already have a Dead Space 1 save file, all you have to do is copy and paste the Electronic Arts folder located in:

<SteamLibrary-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/17470/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/

And paste it to here:

<SteamLibrary-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/47780/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/
