Library > right click on the game > Manage > Browse local files > Make a new text document and name it alsoft.ini (be sure to have file extensions enabled in Explorer)

This will disable poorly configured HRTF (spatial sound technology, don't worry, it won't disable the spatial sound entirely) and the game will sound crystal clear, just like the classics.

Cmon, it's like less than minute to go and test. This teensy config file definitely isn't capable of stealing your personal data and whatnot :)
