DISCLAIMER
This is an unfinished game. Do not expect perfection. There is only ONE developer working on this as a passion project. This guide is simply so people who want to enjoy the game for what it is, can understand what is currently in place.
"Tutorial"
The tutorial for Trench Tales isn't the best. Its very basic and this guide will hopefully help players understand how everything works.

First off. Movement mechanics are not the best. Its basic FPS, WASD movement. ADS is right mouse. Middle mouse button and TAB will shift your POV from right shoulder, to left shoulder.Hold L-shift to sprint (you don't get a lot of stamina, so keep that in mind.) Space allows you to roll, or climb. Q and E are your abilities. Press L-ctrl to toggle walking and running. Shooting is self explanatory (left click). Weapon selection is 1-4 (submachine gun, shotgun, rifle, trench shovel/melee).

Grenades are....weird. You scroll wheel to select which grenade you want (will cover grenade types later) and press G to prep your grenade for throwing. You will then see your character pull his arm back, followed by an arc for your grenade to go. the arc starts off small, then grows larger. you can throw your grenade at any point in the arc. I have come across a bug where after throwing a grenade, sometimes you cant shoot for 5-10 secs, so dont toss one unless you have time for the bug to work itself out.

Map. You have to do a quest later on in order to get it, don't worry. Ill explain later. Same with the radio.

Now, the tutorial itself. Its not the best, you kinda need to follow the floating words to where you need to go. Take your time, explore.
Follow my radio guide when you are "prompted" to use the radio. You will hear morse code.
The general direction you need to go, is EAST. You'll have 3 enemies to deal with before you hit the shooting range.
Head south and you'll find an Officers shrine. You can get a skill from it (Ill cover shrines in another section) head back down the hill and stick to the east side path, it'll take you through another combat section where you'll run into melee and range enemies. work your way east through the trenches and you'll come across a soldier shrine and a "merchant" you can talk to him and he will tell you who he is, but he doesn't sell anything. CONGRATS! that's the tutorial. move east from here to find the trenches.
Weapons
Pretty simple, you get a; submachine gun, a shotgun, semi-automatic rifle, and a trench shovel. To view and upgrade them, you hit "I" go to weapons, then you can select which weapon you want to look at. You find modules for all 4 weapons throughout the world map play through and some of the test missions. they look like semi-glowing crates on the ground, etc. For the trench shovel, the modules you find allow you to change it into other weapons. The modules do affect weapon stats, which you can see in the top right of the weapon module screen. BEWARE. The game will not reload for you, so keep an eye on your ammo counter. The pictures you see below do not look like the weapons you start off with.

The Submachine gun is good for short-medium range and can deal with a few enemies at once. ammo is plentiful for it, so expect to use it the most.

The shotgun is perfect for when you have to go underground in the trenches and can lay waste to tightly packed enemies. It can 1 shot the Trench raiders (melee enemies).Ammo is plentiful, but not as much as the submachine gun.

The semi-automatic rifle is your bread and butter for medium to long range. By long range, I mean, accurately 75ish meters. It 2 shots most enemies, but a headshot drops everything but the trench raiders and other specialty enemies.Ammo is hard to come by, so dont waste it.

Trench shovel. If you're a Krieg lover, youll love this. swing mechanic is a bit broken, so ADSing with this is the way to go.You can spam it. It appears to cause bleeding damage. also the perfect thing for destroying walls/doors that are in your way or between you and hidden passages (yes, there are hidden passages in the world map and combat test missions)
Grenades
This is definately a work in progress. Not all grenades have a model, most have a placeholder model at the moment. The grenade types are as follows with the corresponding symbols. Can acquire them by giving a ritual donation to a soldiers/officers shrine (random)

Frag - Basic frag grenade. Will damage enemies, buildings, and vehicles.

Smoke - Basic smoke. good for blocking turret or vehicles line of sight.

Incendiary - Used to set enemies and other objects on fire. Currently bugged and can explode in mid air.

Flare - Good for lighting up dark trenches or tunnels at range.

Sticky grenade - STicks to surfaces and enemies. Best saved and used for the few vehicles you stumble across.

Mine - best for a laugh used vs enemy troops at the moment. vehicles wont set them off.
Skills
Skills are your special abilities you use by pressing (Q) and (E). They all have their uses, but you may find some are better then others. They use different amounts of your ability bar which can be replenished over time, or by collecting Ash. To change which skills you have "equipped" You need to interact with a Shrine. I will expand this guide and go further into detail about which skill does what at a later date. KEEP IN MIND THAT SOME SKILLS HAVE PREREQUISITES IN ORDER TO WORK.

The Bayonet stab skills requires that your RIFLE equipped and a bayonet attached

The rifle grenade skill requires that you have grenades, and one selected.
Health/Stamina/Ability/Skill bar
Pretty self explanatory I hope.
Left(Q) and right(E) boxes are your skills.
Top green bar is your health. to replenish, you either find health orbs, or you hit (V) which uses a 1/4 of your ability bar.
Middle purple bar is your stamina, this affects sprinting and climbing over objects. Replenishes quite fast.
White bottom bar is your ability bar. It has 4 sections/quarters. Its used when you heal or use a skill. recharges very slowly, but will recharge large portions at a time when collecting Ash from dead enemies
Ammo/Health/Ash
Ammo, Health, and Ash are things that enemies can drop.

Ammo can be anything for your weapons. The amount and type seems to be random. Currently, you can not get grenades from enemy drops. only from shrines.

Health is maybe 1 in 6 enemies and doesn't heal as very much.

Ash is what you use at soldier/officer shrines and the merchants. When used at a shrine, you can get ammo for your 3 firearms and/or grenades. Amount and type are random. Collecting Ash also helps fill your ability meter.

Map
You dont get a map until you help out the topographer. But you can use mine till you do.

Map markers have descriptions, just hover your mouse over them. Ill let you figure out what they are.

West Half of map

East Half of map

If you want me to mark the map with the locations. please comment.
Shrines
Soldier Shrines are your; save points, ammo resupply points, fast travel points, skill selection points, and equipment unlock all rolled into one.

The first time you make a ritual donation to most Soldier Shrines, you will unlock a piece of equipment. Every time after you make a ritual donation, you will receive ammo or grenades. You can do this repeatedly, but you may have to walk away and interact with it again. Once you have a map, you can fast travel between most Soldier shrines, some you cannot.

To change you left and right skills, you need to approach the soldier/officer shrine, interact with it and use your mouse arrow to select one of the skill boxes, that will open up a small menu and allow you to select a different skill.

To save your spot at a shrine, it appears that you need to make a ritual donation to it.

Officer Shrines unlock new skills, Currently I believe there is only a few on the world map. when you interact with them and unlock a new skill, enemies will spawn so you can test out the new skill.
Radio
The radio is used to find POIs on the world map and atleast one of the combat test missions. It may seem complicated, buts its not. Using a picture of the radio, I'll walk you through it. MAKE SURE TO USE THE RADIO DURING THE TUTORIAL IN ORDER TO START THE "MISSIONS" IN THE WORLD MAP.

First off. In order for the radio to work, you need to be standing where you can hear Morse code. Once you hear morse code, hit "I" and open the radio tab. Make sure the top left light is flashing. then, follow the directions on the picture below.

If you fail, dont worry, you can retry it by backing out out of the "I" menu and going back in.

To start the "missions" and find the map
I'm going to keep this simple so I don't spoil everything

When you first start a new world map save, follow the "tutorial" directions through the terrain till you hear Morse code. STOP WHEN YOU'RE STANDING IN THE SOUND. Use the radio.

If done right, you will then see text on the left side next to the radio. Above that, you will see the word "track". Click on the word "track" and once you exit that menu, you will see a green diamond on your compass at the top. follow that. From here, you have to head east.

You'll be going through trenches and you should see a green beam coming out the of ground. If not, look for a church on top of a hill. Talk to the Sergeant in the church(trust me. YOU CANNOT MISS HIM). Complete the capture point "quest" by killing enemies and staying inside the building. Once complete, talk to the sergeant again and he will tell you that the topographer is at the "old farm". this is directly south of the church.

The Old farm has a bunch of single and double story buildings, guard towers, and partially destroyed silos. Look for a large, 3-4 story round silo behind a 2 story building. Find your way to the top by going through the two story building. Talk to the topographer. Escort her to the location she directs you to (East) there is a soldiers shrine and small camp. Talk to her again, and she tells you where her map tools might be and to follow the forest road.

HEAD SOUTH EAST. Follow trail till you see a building way up on a hill. The map tools are on a table inside. Bring map tools back to the topographer and talk to her. She will give you a map.
Tips
This game rewards exploration. You can find anything from hidden tunnels, to weapon modules, and other secrets. Take your time and CHECK EVERYTHING.

You can lower the amount that the enemy can damage your character by hitting ESC and going into gameplay options. I would suggest lowering enemies damage, bc the AI will snap shot you and kill you quickly. Enemy mortars are also a thing and can kill you very easily.

If you die (which you will) and you have Ash on you. You will drop it, don' worry, its not gone for good. You can go back to where you died and collect it (looks like a blue flame on the ground) Once you have a map, it will appear as a symbol on the map. If you die BEFORE you can collect it, its gone for good.

Enemies respawn when you die, or "load back in". So keep that in mind.

Weapon Modules and equipment carry over to the combat test missions.

Conclusion
This game, and this guide are a work in progress. If there is something missing, give it time. I plan on updating the map and explaining the Q and E abilities and the side missions you can complete
