A guide to get all achievements in Spirits of Xanadu in order of their appearance. The guide will try to be as linear as possible with the least amount of repetition and grind. This guide will take you from the beginning, show you the way, and leave you with a perfect game.

Hello and thank you for checking out this guide. This is a chronological %100 achievement guide, which means if you start the game while following this guide when you finish the guide you will get %100 of the achievements and perfect the game.

This means this guide will tell you stuff that game generally will hold back until you finish it at least once. So: SPOILERS AHEAD.

I only recommend this guide to the players who want to get their achievements as quickly as possible and move on with their lives. If your enjoyment is mostly at discovering things on your own, probably this guide is not for you. I was from the second party for most of my life and never checked guides like these before, but as time passed, I felt like I enjoyed following guides like these more and even started writing them. Things change, all cool.

Especially this game is very much story-oriented, I would suggest you to play it blind first. Then you can follow this guide to gather all the achievements.

Should be a very short %100. We have 5 Ending achievements. This includes different endings and different styles while finishing the game, like no death or speedrun.

Then we have 7 Collectible achievements. All of these are for you to collect all of the specific types of collectibles. We will discuss this.

Special Actions achievements are 13 in total. When you are in a specific place you need to do some special actions. You will see them in the guide.

We have one missable achievement. Missable in the sense that if you do something else, you will lock yourself out of this achievement for the remainder of your playthrough. The guide will inform you about this one with capitalized bold letters. Make sure to pay attention to that one.
How Will We Do It?
The sections in this guide will mainly follow the room order that we need to visit. This order has been arranged to minimize the going back and forth.

In each room/section, we will talk about the collectibles, special actions, and story-related progress.

We should play at Easy difficulty. No special bonuses for increased difficulty. Peaceful difficulty disables 2 achievements. You can select the difficulty from Game Options.

We will do 2 runs, one to collect almost all of the achievements. We need to die a couple of times to get some of the achievements. I will inform you about those places. But if you die before that, try to come back to wherever you died and continue following the guide.

2nd run is to get speedrun and no-death achievement. The speedrun is very short and we will see all the steps in the related section.

Don’t forget to find the consoles on the walls and save mission data, that’s the only way to save the game.
Shuttle

We first go to the Engine Room from the right-hand side of the next corridors.
Engine Room
Fix the engine.

Go back to corridors and find your way to Engineering.
Engineering Main Area

You can come here through the grate or the main area.

Nav-server data drive 1: On the table.
Engineering Officer
Mask #2: In a drawer, left hand side of the room when you enter.

Fuse: In Engineering Officers desk, top right drawer.

Audiolog #2: Middle left drawer.

Mask #3-5: In a box, next to pillbot assembly.

There’s a locked room here. We will get in later on.
Engineering Toilets
Toilet Seat #1-3: Need to lift the seats too, not just the lid.

Mask #6: In the trashcan in the male section. You need to jump on top of it to get it.
Engineering Auxiliary
Place the fuse.

Corridors
Gun #2: Then we go back to corridors and walk towards Crew Quarters. Right before we enter there we see a grate, we enter from the grate and fall down from there. When we first fall down, there will be two ways we can go, if we go from the right one we will get the second weapon, a shotgun.
We can go from the other way and drop down into the recreation area.
Recreation Room
Now in this recreation room, there is a recreation robot. These robots like to hug and kill us. That's all nice and dandy since it gives an achievement. But if we die here, we revive over the brig at the other end of the Xanadu. That would severely derail our attempts of less running back and forth. Due to that, please make sure you handle this robot quickly.

Also, the robots in the main area might hear the commotion and want to join in. So you gotta handle them as well.

In this room there are lockers. Open them to find a basketball. Score to get our first achievement.

Achievement: Sign him up for the Knicks!

Page #3: After we score, there will be a note under the hoop, with the code 8008. It counts as pages and belongs to Engineering Area Locked Room. So we will go back to find things in that room in a bit.

But before that, enter the room behind the hoop.
Recreation Area Second Room
Donuts #1-3: At the corner of this room

Pages #4-6: On the table, called as magazines, but counts toward the total.

There’s an arcade game in this area as well. Finish that to get the second achievement.

Achievement: The King of the Dead
Become king of the zombies




5 zombie extra per wave. 6th wave is the king. You can do that old CoD Zombies tactic. Just create an opening for yourself in the circle, go out from there, and wait for all the zombies to come to you.

For the Zombie King with 5hp, trees slow it down. Locate it, run from it using trees, find an opening, and shoot it multiple times. You should get it down 2-3 tries max.

If the crown falls to the ground, you need to go get it. If you are close enough, it falls to your head.

On my first try, I didn’t run from Zombie King and died when the Zombie King had 1hp. Be safe than sorry.

Oh, and I figured there was an aim option in this whole game after I got the achievement. Guess it’s pretty doable.
Recreation Shower
Pages #7: At the corner.
Crew Quarters Main Area
Now we can leave the Recreation area. There will be lots of enemies and cameras here. Dispatch them all except the cleaning robots. We need one of them to suicide in the shower area of the recreation room.

Now until this cleaner bot goes to the Shower area and kills itself, we have some other things to do.

Donuts #4-7: At the main hall, on the table closest to the recreation room.

Also, eat and drink everything around here.

On the farthest table, there are lots of beers, drink many of them one after another to get another achievement.

Achievement: Smashed
Don't drink responsibly
You should get it here, but in case you don't, there will be more in the kitchen's storage room.

Crew Quarters Kitchen
Click on the toaster many times. Boil the water. While doing that eat the food next to the kitchen hood. You might get this next achievement.
Achievement: Trumpet-Major
Experience an attack of flatulence
If you didn’t get this here, you can go to the kitchen storage area and eat everything there as well.


When the toast is black and no more water left, we will get the next achievement.
Achievement: Ruined Breakfast

There are two more achievements here but we still don’t have a solution for the brig area, so we will leave them for later.

Mask #7: Right room, beneath the shelves at right when you enter.

Now it’s very much possible the bot didn’t go and kill itself until now. We need to nudge it.

According to what I gather, if you stand still, they think of you as an obstacle, so it’s possible to change their course that way. Every 5-10 seconds they change course.

So once we get them in the recreation room, if they decide to go out, just stand at the doorway. They should get stuck and turn back. One more chance for the showers.

If you start to back to keep them in line, they keep coming. So it's better to sit still.

Achievement: Silver Shower

Cleaner Bot #3


According to the other guide, there should be 2 cleaner bots here. But I’ve only seen one. If you see the other one, make sure to kill it after you get this achievement though. Because if you have 2 cleaner bots, it would be way easier for you to have one of them enter this area.

Side note: After checking the registry data, I only saw 5 cleaner bots, the same as the findings of this guide. So it's possible there only were 2 bots here before and maybe later it got reduced to 1.

Now we are going to back the Engineering Officer’s to open the Locked Door there.

Also, disable turrets and cameras. For some reason, bots are not responding.

Save the game after this page. Then go to the main menu and do what the page says with your arrow keys.

Achievement: Impulse 101
Obtain every weapon
Cdr Lucy Zhao’s Office Secret Passage
If you shoot to the corners of Commander Zhao’s office, you will find a secret passage. The corner you need to shoot is on the same wall with locked door, to the right of this door. Use your new rifle to find it easier.

After you find the grate-spaced hole, continue from it until you find a book. Read all the pages and you will get an achievement.
Achievement: Xanadu Book Club
Find and read "The Unusual Death of Governor Li"




After we finish this section we can go back to Crew Quarters and save the game. Then we can kill ourselves. We do this because first we have the rifle so we can fight our way back to our next step, and second most of the defenses are turned down from our adventure in the Engineering office.

Now go to the Kitchen area and open all of the stoves. Jump on it and cook yourself for another achievement. You can get to the stove top by opening a drawer and walking on it. Then you need to crouch.
Achievement: Unintended Death
Get killed by the environment




Now we revive in the brig. From now on anytime you see 3-4 enemies, try to kill them as quickly as possible to get another achievement.
Brig
Toilet Seat #7-8: One is in this room, and one is in the room across. Hug it to get another achievement.
Achievement: A bomb?
Get killed by the suicide droid




Mask #13: In the sink in the room across.

Page #21: On the floor in the room across.

Audiolog #9: In the drawer of computer desk.
Medbay
Page #22: Right before you enter to main area, hanged to the left side entrance door, before the two turrets.

Page #23: Middle drawer of the cabinet next to middle cryogenic pod.

Audiolog #10: In the cryogenic pod with broken glass.

Coolant Canister: In the same pod, small doors close to the floor, to the head of the sleeping bay. After getting this here, put it into the middle cryogenic pod.

Here we can turn off the two turrets’ shields. Here we have 2 turrets and one camera. If you can kill all three under 2 secs you will get the next achievement. So to make sure, save first, and then try.

You can check how many shots each of the targets needs, and make them close to death first, then under 2 seconds you kill all.

I honestly got it from full-on fights in other places, but this is a viable place to get it, so the achievement goes here.

Achievement: Killing Spree
Destroy 3 bots in 2 seconds or less




Before going to Bridge, we need to finish the area we skipped by dying. Check the in-game map and try to go to the Storage area. This is not the one in the Engineering and it’s written as Storage on the in-game map.

But right before you arrive there, we will see another toilet area. Enter here.
Toilet Next to Storage
Toilet Seat #9-10: Standard toilet layout. Last toilets. The third one is occupied, so no need to lift that one.

Achievement: Please put your seats in the upright position
Place every toilet seat up




Now we can go to Storage room.

Cleaner Bot #5: On the way you might see a cleaner bot. This should be the last one.

Achievement: Murderer
Destroy every cleaner bot
If you didn't see this one before the storage room, don't worry. We will be around this area for some time. Shoot it when you see it.
Storage
Audiolog #11: On one of the tables.
Survey
Mask #14: At the far right corner room, behind the glass.

At the far left corner, the door is shown as blue, which means there’s a survey bot in there. Click on the third option to send it to survey the ship. When it comes back you will get the achievement.

YOU CAN MISS THIS IF YOU DEPLOY THE BOT TO SURFACE. Then you will not get the bot back. So don’t choose that.

Achievement: Scanners
Scan the Xanadu with the Survey Bot
Laboratory
Mask #15-16: In boxes, on top of the shelves at the right side of the room when you enter.

Page #24: Next to an open and empty donut box on countertop to the right of the artifact when you enter the room.

Audiolog #12: Other end of this same countertop.

Donuts #8-11: In donut boxes, on countertop to the left of the artifact.

Achievement: Homer's Odyssey
And and eat every donut

Research
Page #26: Just before you enter to room, there is a yellow post-it note at the door.

Page #27: In the second room, on the table.

Now in the next room, we have the last mask, but I don’t want to enter there because we need to die one more time before we reach any of the endings. That’s why go back to the Storage Room behind the Kitchen in Crew Quarters, find the box with cigarettes, and smoke them until you die.

There are some other cigarettes lying around in some rooms, but it’s very hard to chain-smoke them to the point of death. This box makes it very easy.

Achievement: Surgeon General's Warning
Ignore the surgeon general, as well as common sense




Now we are back at the brig, we can go to the Research and finish the room. We will leave the room with the last mask latest of all the collectibles because it's related to one of the endings.

About the last mask: We've died a couple of time till now. If in one of your deaths, the world has turned to black and white and a mask has led you to the artifact in the laboratory, gathering the last mask will open an ending related to this storyline. If you haven't had that experience, you can gather this, but you will need to die until you see that to open that ending.

Mask #17: Next to the laptop in the corner, on the shelves. As I've been led by a mask in my earlier deaths, the game turned black and white for me.
Preparing for Endgame - Create Save Game Files
Here we need to extract our save-game first because if you reach any ending, it immediately deletes all the previous progress.

Here’s the dev’s comment on how to do this in this discussion:

It's stored in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>allen>Spirits of Xanadu

You can right-click on the register folder Spirits of Xanadu and export it as a .reg file, then just reimport that to get your save back if you happen to reformat or switch computers or start a new game or whatever.

Saving to the registry is not exactly convenient (it is for me, not for the end user), and doesn't work with Steam cloud. I'll be using a more convenient method of saving for all my future games.

Sorry if this caused any inconvenience!

Make sure to exit the game first. Then open the Registry Editor, and go to this path: Computer/HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/allen/Spirits of Xanadu. You will see so many different files in there. (If you don't know how to open the Registry Editor, check the Registry Editor header in this page.[support.microsoft.com])

Right-click on "Spirits of Xanadu" folder, and select Export. Select a location and name and you have your saves for this exact point in game. Now we can proceed with the endings.
Bridge
Another chance to get Killing Spree achievement if you still haven’t got it as we have tonnes of flybots here.

Put in all three nav-server data drives.

Go to the station that’s working.

Now for the first ending, we should open the first document we’ve found on the shuttle, and enter the coordinates. For Earth: 0356.3480.1147.3636

Autopilot ON

Orbital Clamps OFF

Ready, Go. Click on it.

Go to medbay, Laydown, and enter cryogenic sleep in the middle cryogenic pod.

Achievement: Mission Successful
Fly the Xanadu back to Earth
Second Ending - Import the Save Files
Now Exit the game, and go back to the same place in the registry editor. Click on File > Import… Then select the Save file you’ve created.

It should say: "The keys and values contained in {PATH} successfully added to the registry."

Open the game again and now you can click on Continue.

Now Commander Zhao has already left an audio log where she said she left some breadcrumbs for the location of the nearest star. If you check the page files we’ve collected, there are some numbers on them. If you put them in the page order you should find the coordinate of the said star. Which is: 1418.2061.4511.6342. The destination should say Alpha Orionis.

Then the same procedure:

Ready, Go.

Achievement: Sacrifice
Set the Xanadu on a course to the nearest star
Third Ending - Laboratory
Get the earlier save back one more time.

If you see the lilies, follow them back to the laboratory.

If you don't see them, you need to go kill yourself a couple of times to see the mask and let it lead you to the embrace of the artifact in the laboratory. After this, you should wake up in the Brig.

You can cook yourself to death or smoke yourself to death if you've cleared out all of the defense bots.

Then follow the lillies.

Embrace the Artifact.

Achievement: The Other Half
Join the crew of the Xanadu


Speedrun and No Death
Now we have finished most of the achievements. There are only two left. Balls of Steel, no dying while beating the game, and Speedrunner, completing the game in 10 minutes or less.

Both can be done at the same run, but if it’s too hard, you can do them in separate ones. This guide will do it in one run.

Our roadmap for the speedrun is this:
  1. Shuttle – Get the Flashlight
  2. Shuttle Bay – Get the Gun
  3. Corridor - Pillbot
  4. Engine Room – Kill the turret
  5. Engine Room – Fix the engine
  6. Engineering Officer’s Office – Fuse from desk
  7. Auxiliary – Put the Fuse to the electric box on the wall
  8. Auxiliary – Restore all the generators 11, 17, 39, 42, 4, 9, 13, 21kV
  9. Engineering Office secret room – close the camera and turrets – Code 8008
  10. Storage Room – Get the nav-server data drive 1
  11. Intersection – 2 Pillbots
  12. Cdr Lucy Zhao’s Office Locked Door – Code 3141, get the rifle so we have an easier time everywhere else.

Make sure you’ve selected the Easy difficulty from the Game Options. Peaceful doesn’t grant achievements.

Complete the game in 10 minutes or less

Beat the game without dying
