Intro
Are you tired of your game sounding like a caveman congress meeting 70% of the time? Have you thought about turning voices off but then you feel bad when you miss out on the animated sequences? Boy do I have something for you.

Introducing Reduced Grunting, because sometimes silence really is golden.

Disclaimer
Most importantly: This is a first prototype. Some actual voicelines will be missing.
Out of the 23 632 files containing voice clips (!!!) I picked the top 5000 smallest files and removed them, assuming most of them were grunts. This results in some actual voicelines being missing.

I've been playing with it for 7~8 hours and it felt like maybe 5~10 lines got axed, which felt reasonable enough to upload the mod as-is.

I am currently working on updating the mod, I'm passing every file through a voice recognition script to automatically save the actual voice lines, but this is a slow process and I thought I'd make the guide now and update it later.

As of now, it is for the English dub only.

I might try to make an update and patch the Japanese voices as well if there is a lot of interest.

I made this on the fly using a bunch of tools from other modding communities, and this is pretty DIY.

After playing with it for a few hours I didn't encounter any issues, but assume there is a small chance your game might crash at some point. So make sure to back things up and install this patch at your own risks. If anything happens, I am fairly confident checking your game files integrity should fix the issue.

Also, this is something I made mostly for myself and I think it's unlikely I'll have the time and energy to make adaptations for lots of different setups like mac, steam deck etc etc.
Patching your game
STEP 1: Downloads
Download the patch by clicking on this link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ImMmZBDzenzJxT_8VdChOifu94CLu6O8/view?usp=sharing

You will need the delta patcher software to patch your game, which you can download here: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/704/
Extract the zip file and keep DeltaPatcher.exe somewhere accessible.

STEP 2: Locating the file needed for the patch

To see where your game is located, you can right click on it in the Steam Library > Manage > Browse local files.

The English dub is contained in the file app_1_sound.dx11.cpk. You will find it inside the gamedata folder.

MAKE A BACKUP OF THIS FILE BEFORE APPLYING THE PATCH.

STEP 3: Patching

Open DeltaPatcher.exe. You will be asked to provide the path to the original file (your app_1_sound.dx11.cpk, found in Step 2), and the XDelta patch (Reduced Grunting.xdelta)

After inputing the path, apply the patch.

Done! Enjoy the game with reduced grunting.

Hi, could you post a guide on how you did this ? I'd like to try my hand at modding audio files too.

Pretty great patch but it pretty badly targets Takumi's battle lines. It wouldn't be so bad if it was all the characters but it's mostly just him

Hey! Thank you for the work, it helps a lot. However i wanted to play a bit with the japanese voices too, and i can't patch the presumably ''app_0'' sound file with this mod! Could you make one version for the japanese voice overs if it's not much hassle?

Thank you for this, makes playing late at night so much better.

God yes, the anime exertion sounds are a bit too much at times.
