Hammerwatch Tips and Tricks
These are Tips and Tricks for Heroes of Hammerwatch! This tutorial will help you get better at the game.
Damage Improvement
Its quite simple to make your damage higher in this game. You can either upgrade your Primary Attack in Trainer Calhoun (Upgrade the far left path a lot). Or you can level up and get stars which can be used to upgrade your Primary Attack in Trainer Calhoun.
Intending for Bossfights
Stone Guardian:
- You can run in circles and continuously use your spells.
- He mainly slams the ground after his attack where it sends am earthquake in a straight line in the ground that can sneak up on you.
- He can also drop stalactites from the air and it makes a massive explosion. So you can find an opening where you can stay safe.
- He doesn't have much HP so you could kill him in less than 30 seconds even for beginners.

(NG+1 Stone Guardian)
- Not much extra.
- He deals way more damage to you should be cautious on where you are standing because you could be doomed if you stop moving for more than 3 seconds.

The Warden:
- He swings his sword around in a circle a little like Paladins Whirlwind ability.
- He can move faster than you can, so you should keep a good range from him after he stops that attack and after that he is ready to spin again.
- His attack after the Whirlwind is straight forward to dodge.
- You can attack him in a circle pattern and there is no way for him to be pinned to the wall.
- He also spawns Holders which are enemies that take you as very predictable and shoot nets at a time. So you can be held in place for 1 second so you may have to kill them as fast as possible or right when they spawn.

(NG+1 Warden)
- Also again just does more damage.
- Be more cautious about where you are moving around.

The Three Councilors:
- Now these guys are a jump from Warden.
- They each have 3K health.
- They are also agile and spawn obstacles almost all over the map.
- When the Towers are destroyed the councilor who was attached to the tower dies too.
- So don't doubt the Towers. Attack one at a time and run circles around the Councilor if they stop because spells dont work on the towers.

(NG+1 Three Councilors) A LOT more damage, health, obstacles, and undead Towers! The towers when they are destroyed still repeat their attacks. So you will need to pop potions when you need to and run around the map as much as you can!

The Watcher: He has 12K health which is a little more than other bosses. He has fire balls that revolve around him which can apply burning and he can attack with red and white shivs that can bounce off of walls and deal major damage and when he leaves use your books that you get from previous floors in order in Chapter I - IV. You could run circles around him and span your spells at him whenever he comes back into the map.

(NG+1 Watcher) He has 44K health which is so much among other bosses. His fire balls that revolve around him can now cause confusion, a debuff that inverts the direction of the move inputs. Other than that, he deals more damage.

The Vampire Lord: He has 14K health which is a little more than the Watcher. He can summon enemies, use a mist attack, and have the rest of the stuff that the great threats on the Chambers. The only way to dodge the mist attack is to activate and stand on the crosses from the previous floors. You shouldn't always fight him face to face because you could die from either you being distracted by him and dont look at the enemies that will kill you if you are too distracted, or him summoning swords that they could all hit you if you are not careful and you will die.

(NG+1 Vampire Lord) He now has 64K health which is astronomical among all other bosses. Its so large in fact that you would have to kill the Stone Guardian 80 times! He just does more damage and summons more enemies. He also is a bit more agile. Again, don't be in his face 24/7 as this is the worst way to kill him. Just take it slow and don't worry about taking breaks from the fight. (as in stop attacking him and focusing more on defense)

Thundersnow: He is the last boss in the game having 22K health. He can spawn great threats from Battlements. There can also be wind from Thundersnow's wings that make it harder for you to climb to get him. He can also roar and release a freezing shockwave that can kill you (almost no matter your level), so you could run away from it or continuously pop potions to stay alive. You can also run up to him right after he does his frost shockwave because he wont do it again for a long time. Be careful because he can also summon giant stalagtites from the sky and that can cause a massive explosion and can deal a lot of damage so you could move in a semi circle like movement around Thundersnow.

(NG+! Thundersnow (coming soon!))
Distance Improvement
If you want to go for distance, you will need a lot of: Keys, armor and resistance, health, mana, potion charges, health from picking up a food item and using a potion, mana from picking up a mana item and using a potion, and items before the run. The farther you get into the game, the more difficult it will be to survive. You should go to the Shopkeeper above the Apothecary and buy things there to help you win. First you will hit the Mines, the enemies here are very easy and you should be able to progress yourself through this as Newbie. There could be Fountains at least 1 fountain per 3 floors of the mines, prison, armory, and once per 2 levels in Chambers. There can be 2 fountains per 3 levels of the Archives and once per level in the Battlements, but a fountain can be blocked off by the bridge collapsing in the Battlements and you cant get over there unless you have Glass Walks in the Fountain, even then it still might not let you through. The enemies on the Prison are moderate and you may need to play with your character more to level him/her up. There are elite enemies and mini bosses such as the Big Maggot (Its a giant maggot that is kind of Councilor Magic and Councilor Wisdom put together but it doesnt deal as much damage as you think). There are also stuff like a room where you have to defuse all lightning bolts that are not active and a room where you have to memorize where you're supposed to mark the symbols and even a puzzle. If you are at less than 25% health, use one of your potion charges. Because you cant heal as fast as a potion can heal you. For great threats, you can go in circles around them and hit them with your Primary Attack (or use some spells). This is called kiting, you will make the great threats confused on where they are supposed to hit you. If you keep running circles around the enemy, he will take you as a very non-predictable target and may hit where you were 1 second ago standing. If they are pinned on a wall, you can run around the great threat and once you hit wall again, you can retrace your steps. But the great threats for Armory and the Battlements are multiple enemies and you can either pick them off one at a time or you can gather them in a pile and use your spells. The enemies on Armory are a challenge for the player. To exit, you have to destroy three statues around the map. They will spawn Fallen Paladins, Rangers, Sorcerers, and Warlocks. They attack like Paladins, Rangers, Sorcerers, and Warlocks. Mini bosses on Armory are a little like the Bossfight on Prison but have less health. You could kill them like the second boss. For some chests, you must have Glass Walks in the Fountain. The enemies in the Archives are a little hard for pro(s). For great threats in Archives, you want to fight it where there are little to no enemies near you. You can kite him to pretty much kill him or you can walk back and forth. He also spawns 4 little eyes. To exit, you must find a button that looks like the button that unlocks the prison doors, normally where there is a portal (not a skip). The enemies on the Chambers are incredibly hard even for the pro's. There are a lot of silver and gold chests there and if you are incredibly lucky, you can get an ace key. For great threats, you can go in circles again but this time you also want to keep a distance from him because when he swings his sword 3 times around himself, it can deal massive damage and almost kill you so you should keep a range far enough where you can attack him and also dodge his triple sword swing attack. At the beginning he will afflict you with darkness, darkness is a debuff that makes it so you cant see farther than a certain point. He will also summon Albino Bats. They're the inverted colors of a normal bat you can find in the mines, so they are easily spottable. The great threat can also summon around 10 swords in a direction where you are standing. I find it easier to not try to dodge them rather than do (IDK). Lastly, he can summon red looking shockwaves. They can afflict a debuff on you called Bleeding. It decays your health for 2 seconds, but is very powerful. You also cant fight the Vampire Lord if you dont get any of the cross shapes, otherwise when you do fight him, you will die whenever he performs his mist attack. At the end of every floor in the Chambers, you will fight 2 or 4 Arch-Liches. An Arch-Lich is a mini boss where he summons big fire balls either one at a time, or 5 in an evenly spaced circle direction. What may feel like a run ender is if you fight a great threat as you are fighting 2 - 4 Arch-Liches at the end of a floor in the Chambers. Enemies in Battlements are extremely hard and may require getting your character to the capped amount of levels. But luckily the enemy count on the Battlements are very low. Stone Gargoyles can spawn from the statues. A useful way to detect if they're spawning is if you see purple eyes from the statue, and not every statue will spawn into a gargoyle. Literally everything in the Battlements has 1K or more HP. Great threats here are like the great threats in Armory. So you could repeat the same strategy like fighting in Armory. These enemies are also very inaccurate if you are moving in circles. When fighting a cluster of enemies, you could gather them and kite them. But in some cases, you could get cornered and when that happens, you'll almost be guaranteed to pop a potion. Just know there will always be a fountain on every level in Battlements, and always an ace chest right before Thundersnow (Bridge, Floor 1). You should now be getting way higher now. I hope this helped you!
Skip Portals
Skips can be unlocked after completing the boss before where you are skipping to. Example: If you beat the Stone Guardian, you will advance to the Prison (Second Level, and when playing another run, you will see a red portal that can take you to the prison, known as skips. Once you enter a skip portal, there is no turning back. You will fight a flurry of enemies where are from you are skipping to. The enemies will spawn on the spawners kind of next to the end of the map, they spawn when you attack the cube in the middle. Blocks will appear on the cube if you deal enough damage to it for a block on the cube to turn red. If all the blocks on the cube are red, the cube breaks and any enemies still on the map will die and you win and you get eight rewards/items. If you are skipping to the Prison, there won't be any blue items that spawn once you break the cube, but all levels after that will more likely have a blue item. If you are skipping to Armory, Archives, and Chambers (You can't skip to the Battlements), close to the end of the cube turning fully red will summon projectiles around the cube after you transition to the point where the attacking process starts. Those obstacles can deal a lot of damage if you don't have enough armor and/or resistance. What you could do is run circles around the cube and attack it and ignore the enemies but on higher levels you may have to take it slow. There is space between the projectiles where you can be and stay safe, but if you try to melee attack the cube while its about to attack you, you may be doomed.
Keys
There are Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Ace keys. Bronze keys are very common and spawn in almost every level and Bronze chests can give you up to a Green Item. Silver keys are most common in the Archives and or the Armory or Chambers. Silver chests can give you up to a Blue item and blue items are pretty common to find in a Silver Chest. Gold keys are very rare in Prison and in Armory and a little more common in the Chambers and Battlements. Gold chests can give you up to a Purple item. Ace keys can only spawn in Chambers and in the Battlements, you can find at least one if you're lucky in the Battlements and they can spawn in Chambers if you are really really REALLY lucky. Ace chests can give you up to the best color item: Red. Red items are known to be really really good, and ace chests only spawn in the Battlements and one is guaranteed to spawn before fighting Thundersnow.
Armor
Armor is where you can take less damage from physical attacks. The more armor you have, the less damage you take from physical attacks from enemies. You can buy if from Prefect Grey, and then you can upgrade the amount of armor you have from Smith Barro.
Resistance
Resistance is where you can take less damage from Magical Attacks. The more resistance you have, the less damage you take from Magical attacks. Resistance can be obtained by buying more from Duke.
Fountain
The fountain is a place where you can wish for Positive and Negative effects. You will need to put money in the well for wishing for a little more positive than negative. If you put more negative than positive or if you balance the posivite and negative, you dont have to pay money at all. -14 (negative) being really really bad and -1 being not the greatest but also not the worst. +14 (positive) being really really good and +1 being not the worst but also not the greatest.
Puzzle Hint/Algorithm
If you manage to make it so that there is one edge left undone. Walk across the middle three from side to side where both sides edges are lit up, and solving the rest is very straight forward. (If you walk on one, around that one including the one you walked on will either turn black if its blue and blue if its black)
NG (New Game) Levels
NG is short for New Game. It makes almost every enemy harder then the previous NG level. NG+1, 2, 3, 4, and even 5 can make the game incredibly hard. If you manage to beat Thundersnow. You will unlock the next NG level you beat Thundersnow on.
